I’m just so proud to live in a country where ten balding, bigoted, wealthy white reactionaries can grow up and be president. :sammy:
:rofl2: :rofl2:  :rofl2: :rofl2: :yuck:

It’s a shame they didn’t give Nancy Reagan three minutes at the end of the debate to debunk the Repig position on stem-cell research. As long as these suit monkeys were evoking the holy name of their dead god Ronnie, she should have been able to make them pay for the privilege.
Did I just stick up for Nancy Reagan? Holy shit! :smack:
The new Tori Amos CD is out! Just snagged it last night after work. Haven’t had a chance to listen to it yet, but maybe I can sneak it in this afternoon.
Don’t tell Amy. 🙂

Good Morning :joe:
Has any of you ever had any experience with shingles? I am taking care of my good friend, he is in a lot of pain.
kristapea:
i had an attack while in school…brought on by STRESS. i didn’t even know i’d had chickenpox!
what rx med is he/she taking? topically, try some anaesthetic (?) spray like “solarcaine” and after it’s scabbed over, a cream with low percent capcaisin (?) – the stuff in hot peppers that make them hot.
My dad had shingles, and it recurred periodically. It was severely painful. In fact, it indirectly resulted in his death. He was in the hospital after the medical system had pretty much destroyed his heart, and the shingles would become very bad at night, making it impossible for him to sleep. So, they gave him the most powerful psychotropic drug they could find, which caused hallucinations that made him try to climb out of bed, resulting in his falling and smashing his hip. He only lasted another day or two after that.
😥
my grandfather died the same way, except it was his lungs (hospital acquired pneumonia) that eventually forced him into a nursing home. we figured it was sort of “suicide by fall” when he jumped out of bed one night, fell and broke a hip within a week of entering the place.
🙁 I’m so sorry PJ. My friend is having to deal with the medical system here. It’s his new job.
KP,
Merck ran this full page ad in the Sunday paper here.
I was having trouble getting the website shinglesandyou.com but finally found it.

Yeah, it’s a helluva system. It’s great at putting people’s parts back together, but not so hot at the whole “healing” thing. As I tell my friend the doctor (who probably wouldn’t have gotten through 9th grade Algebra if we didn’t switch tests when I was done with mine, and did his for him), imagine if your car wasn’t running very well, so you take it to a general auto mechanic, who sends you to a carburetor “specialist,” that runs a bunch of tests and tells you your carb is fine (and charges you, of course), then refers you to a fuel specialist, who runs all kinds of fuel tests (maybe even prescribes some additives that don’t really do anything, except that, after a while, your car won’t run at all if you don’t keep using the additives), but that doesn’t seem to help, so you get referred to an electrical systems specialist, and on and on, until, in the end, you’ve spent thousands of dollars, wasted countless hours of your life sitting in waiting rooms, having to use precious vacation days – or just lose a day’s pay – so that you can go to the mechanic when it’s convenient for them to see you, your car is addicted to these high-priced fuel additives, and yet the damn thing still runs like shit (and belches smoke from the tailpipe, from time to time).
The good news is that all your parts are fine. The bad news is, you’re still not running right.
The mystery of how two chemicals that are considered non-toxic poisoned so many pets may have been solved, CBS News correspondent Nancy Cordes reports.
The breakthrough was made at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. A week ago, scientist Perry Martos mixed together a few drops of melamine and cyanuric acid, the two unauthorized chemicals found in tainted pet food.
In less than a second, they formed a mass of crystals nearly identical to crystals found in the kidneys of sickened animals.

Apologies about the Merck link. It was for the sake of information. But I am sure they are offering up some good holistic solutions at a reasonable price.
Hey, sometimes drugs are a godsend. Although, they are at least somewhat culpable in my having taken 27 years to get an undergraduate degree.
Nothing is ever all-bad or all-good.

Did three of the candidates actually say that they don’t believe in evolution? I must have nodded off [or the Jazz must have been making their run at that point] –
I firmly believe that the earth is supported on the back of four massive turtles. I intend to act on this information soon. :sammy:
Since I don’t have cable, I only saw some pieces of the ‘debate’ on the MSNBC site and now I am wondering if I want to seek out the whole thing on a download somewhere. Perhaps I am a glutton for punishment but I am so incredulous about what I did see and hear. McCain-Insane!
Peter B subbing for Hartman this morning and playing on the Quake hear, a station run by a repug-con who fired both Peter B and MSBlog tech fave Leo LaPort in favor of Rush Limppaw in the past.
I went up for the 5th time last night at an open mic.
I talked about:
Unicorns, Care Bears and Cosbys
Cosby: First Blood
My Mom voting for my brother
Jon Tester
Democratic Dominatrix
It felt somewhat coherent which is good… first time I did those last three things.
This is a tape of NOT ME!!! But of a woman who did her first open mic the same night as me. We’ve been trading e-mails back and forth between the first time I saw her and last night, the first time I actually TALKED to her and her to me.
Um… yeah. That’s all I’ve got right now.

What if a presidential candidate stepped up to the mike and said “Chris, I firmly believe that any man or woman who wants to be president must base their decisions on their faith. [several of them said this last night] In my case, I firmly believe that the earth rests on the back of four giant turtles. The one supporting the western hemisphere is named Melvin. He appeared to me last night at the foot of my bed and said ‘overturn Roe v. Wade.’ and ‘got any bone meal pellets?’ “So what’s the problem? Its his faith. Isn’t he entitled to equal billing with the Smiling Mormon and the evolution doubters?
Now for obvious reasons, this would not work with ferrets. :sammy:

A federal official whose investigations of waste and corruption in Iraq have repeatedly embarrassed the Bush administration is now being investigated himself by an oversight committee with close links to the White House and by the ranking Republican on the House Government Reform Committee.
The investigation of the official, Stuart W. Bowen Jr., originated with a complaint put together by roughly half a dozen former employees who appear to have left his office on unhappy terms, said several officials familiar with the case, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the investigation is still going on.
Both the White House and a spokesman for the Republican congressman, Thomas M. Davis III of Virginia, said yesterday that the investigations were not started in retribution for the work undertaken in Iraq by Mr. Bowen, who runs the Office of the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction.
But the investigations are coming to light just a few months after Mr. Bowen’s office narrowly escaped what amounted to a termination clause tucked away in a large military authorization bill by staff members of another Republican congressman. A bipartisan group of lawmakers later managed to reverse that provision, but the latest action has renewed suspicions that Mr. Bowen — a Republican himself — has come to be seen as a serious political liability by his own party
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/04/washington/04bowen.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
So, O’Neil, a staffer of Sen. Specter, inserted stuff in the patriot act to allow the firing and replacement of US attys and now we learn that other Repug staffers inserted a provision in an appropriations bill to fire another inspector. It’s time for us to visit DC and insert a provision to end the war. Apparently, one need not be elected to alter legislation.
The Repugs, after 6 1/2 years, have discovered oversight. Bloch is investigating Rove, Justice is investigating Goodling and now an oversight committee is investigating Bowen. I think we can save them the trouble and simply comclude that there was no wrong doing on the part of the Repugs unless of course it was when the investigatees discovered Repug wrong doing themselves.
From Dana Milbank on Huffpo:
Let us pray that, on next year’s National Day of Prayer, there is better attendance at the “Bible Reading Marathon” on the West Front of the Capitol.
Organizers put out 600 folding chairs on the lawn — the spot where presidents are inaugurated — and set up a huge stage with powerful amplifiers. But at 9:30 a.m. yesterday, not one of the 600 seats was occupied. By 11 a.m., as a woman read a passage from Revelations, attendance had grown — to four people. Finally, at 1 p.m., 37 of the 600 seats were occupied, though many of those people were tourists eating lunch.
Where was everybody?
“This isn’t that kind of event,” explained Jeff Gannon, spokesman for the host, the International Bible Reading Association. Gannon, actually a pseudonym for James Guckert, had earned fame in 2005 representing a conservative Web site at White House briefings until it was revealed that he posted nude pictures of himself on the Web to offer his services as a $200-an-hour gay escort.
Let us pray for the power to understand how Gannon made his way from HotMilitaryStud.com to the International Bible Reading Association.
The worst part of it was, that as Guckert/Gannon was folding up all the unused chairs, Tommy Thompson walked over and yelled “you’re fired!” :sammy:

I’ll take a crack at that one.
We’re limping through the sixth year of rule by an ignorant, bigoted, narrow-minded, anti-intellectual, lazy, arrogant, illiterate f*ckwad, and its destroying us.

Mike Huckabee explains that he doesn’t believe that his ancestors “came from apesâ€
In Huckabee’s defense, he’s probably just confused because the visual comparison isn’t as striking for most people as it is for the Chimp In Chief.
Or perhaps the part of Huckabee’s brain that used to handle rational thought went missing as part of his weight loss.

Re 45: Atheism is simply another way of looking at the world. When atheists present themselves as the antithesis of religion they give credence to the argument that the lack of religion is atheism.
The lack of religion should be viewed as being neutral on the subject of the existence of a diety, ’cause once we say no religion = atheism it allows religion into public square for balance.
North America’s oldest conifer tree and some ancient scorpion parts are among the fossil treasures found in a newly discovered cave in Illinois.
The new discovery also unearthed fossils of plants that may be new to science and revealed evidence of prehistoric forest fires.
Scientists date the specimens to nearly 315 million years ago, according to initial findings presented last month at the regional meeting of the Geological Society of America in Lawrence, Kan.
