Good morning everyone.
Just put on the Young Turds, and apparently Cenk is pontificating about some people considering Jeb Bush a moderate. HE IS NOT. (Jeb, I mean, not Cenk.)
Jeb is a raging christo-fascist who behaves like a spoiled brat when he doesn’t get his way, and who has set Florida schools so far back that students here will have to graduate from college to qualify for a high school diploma.
He is worse than Chimpy in some ways because he is alleged to be the smart one. Although, granted, Chimpy sets the bar very low.
OK, enough ranting. The Cavs are up 2-0! (No one from NJ usually posts here, right?)

Hey, almost forgot. Did anyone else notice that during yesterday’s program, Thom Hartmann pronounced John Boehner’s last name as BONER? Like Stephanie Miller does as a joke?
Can’t wait to see if someone mentions it on her show today, since they refer to Hartmann from time to time. Sometimes it doesn’t take much to amuse me. 😀
Hey, impeachment might be under your tree soon. How about these three trends: 1. Bush’s plan for Iraq is to basically stay the course, and to pass the problem on to his successor, which roils moderate GOP Senators 2. According to a recent poll [rawstory, com] a large percentage already support impeachment of both Bush and Cheney, and,in my opinion, this will grow as the war drags on 3. the dems are on a collision course for a constitutional crisis, because a fund cut-off is going to come, either sooner or later, and then Bush will refuse to observe it, moving money around to keep the war going.A perfect storm. Vengeance is mine, sayeth the lord. :sammy:

Morning, all. Roxie, thanks, I needed a giggle this morning.
Can’t stick around much because I’m at work and they watch such things but I’m having HIGH SPEED INTERNET installed at the end of next week so once I’m back from my road trip to Seattle on the 19th (Anyone in Portland wanna come watch His Royal Fuzzybuttness Faraday on the night of the 19th? Just for a half hour or so to let him out and give him fresh water?) I’ll have a much, much easier time of it and will be able to do most anything I could possibly want to do online.
Possible recipe at lunch time today.

A-man,
I had dinner last night with relatives and friends of Pennsyltucky transplants from Lancaster and nr Hershey. Good people but I had to be very careful for the sake of something. I am still bothered by the whole thing but in the end I think I scared them a little. I told them they did not want the Steve Earle record that I cued up on the iPod after a few negative Muslim statements.
Interesting evening that I don’t always have a chance to enjoy in my SF oasis but I imagine you deal with on a daily basis.
“poof” … .. Gypsy “beamed” in. :pirate: :yippee:
Awwww Cheers Faraday :pup:
wow , Steve Earle record that I cued up on the iPod after a few negative Muslim statements (teehee, snicker) … a.i.v.
Vern,
Once you get out of Philly and Pittsburgh, it’s basically redneck Bush country. Lancaster’s OK if your friends are Mennonite otherwise they’re all rabid bushites. That’s where my ex-wife now lives and she’s not a Mennonite.
Looks like I just figured out what to do this afternoon
Iraq War Teach-in: The Health Effects of the Iraq War
It doesn’t sound like it will be easy.
vernon,
just thot of an old album you’d enjoy if you aren’t already familiar with: richard & mimi fariña’s “reflections in a crystal wind”.
Yeah, Andy, they were nice people and their local ‘relations’ are dearest friends. I was very restrained although there was no overt provocations, just presumptions like I experience when back in VA like when a niece has to say grace or prayers. There is no point for a reasonable engagement. I just wonder how to reach some of these folks.
roxie,
Beautiful stuff and well recommended.
I did some time working with Mimi some years ago with a record. A great family and as I noted recently, their great father passed recently.
After my afternoon at UCSF, I will be visiting my Richard & Mimi.
Here’s the story of the search for a mate for Lonesome George, the last Pinta Giant Tortoise on Galapagos.
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/08/science/08tier.html?_r=1&ref=science&oref=slogin
their partnership was unfortunately far too short (& richard’s literary as well), from straightforward folk to smart, funny, political satire. one of the albums i wore out (along with the first track on “bringing it all back home” in order to figure out all the words.) thank god for printed lyrics in music now!
don’t get me started on 60’s musical nostalgia. i’m so impressed that you know/knew these idols.
roxie, I try not to but there is sometimes so much that needs to be remembered. I just felt the need to give pj an elbow in the ribs as the ‘old guy in the room’. It is nice to know some remember it. It is great to so some still can learn from it if they care. Before I got labelled as OLD I was thinking of bringing here album classics every couple of days for those interested. The first would have been “Blonde on Blonde” but thinking back, “Bringing It All Back Home” may have been the one. I always thought it was his best.
great idea vern, can it be in mp3 foremat. i can’t yet download wav files or any videos on my handheld. some of the more obscure stuff would be nice too. i’ve occasionally looked for cd reissues on some stuff i really liked but either it hasn’t been or i missed it.
other, slightly less obscure cuts would be nice also. do you have access to jim kweskin jugband stuff for example? i’d love to hear “never swat a fly” again. :bee: i can come up with lots more suggestions that i’m sure the younsters would enjoy….
off to bed, back to work at 9pm (pdst of course).
excellent talking with you.
Notice of Revocation of Independence
To the citizens of the United States of America,
In the light of your failure to elect a President of the USA and thus to govern yourselves, we hereby give notice of the revocation of your independence, effective today. yupper, some brilliant work there.
recently spent some web time digging around.
the sidemen and sideladies on their alblums have some good sites too.
Recipe today
I had to find something medieval-ish and Russian (don’t ask!) so I’ll share this recipe with you. It kinda looks like an overly eggy bagel or something like that.
Vigilance! (the only AAR I still listen to is I swing by Rachel Maddow’s slot on the weekends to hear Kent. Gosh, I miss Lawton!)
Baranki
Ingredients:
8 eggs
1/2 cup oil
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp salt
3 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
poppy seeds for sprinkling on top
Directions: Separate eggs. Cream egg yolks and sugar well, slowly add oil and vanilla and salt, mix well. Beat egg whites and add to the creamed egg yolk mixture. Gradually add flour until dough forms, you may need to add more than the 3 cups indicated above.
To make baranki: roll dough between your hands to make a rope and twist together and form a circle.
Boil water: add baranki and cook for about 5 minutes. Drain on a clean tea towel until all water drains off.
Put on cookie sheet, egg wash the baranki and sprinkle poppy seeds on top. Turn oven on to 425 and bake the baranki for 15 minutes. Turn oven down to 375 and bake for about 45-50 minutes. Or until they are baked well.

I have a very bad feeling about this storm season.
How are the bird eggs doing?
My mother is leaving Florida in July. She says it’s just too hard on her any more to live without electricity every time there’s a hurricane.
Good luck, Melina.

The thugs have a way with disasters so don’t be to surprised if in six months or so after all the people in that Kansas town have to move out that some real estate developer moves and then buys the property from the country at a tax sale for nine cents on the dollar and delelopes some retirement community . :gate: :omg: :jason: :jason: :fist:
All my relatives live either around here or in Nebraska along the Missouri river south of Omaha.. The Missouri is going to 20 feet above flood stage but that doesn’t seems to be anything new for them 😮 😮 😯 😯

Energy independence and a move away from burning things to make energy have to go hand in hand..Burning things almost always produces CO2. CO2 causes global warning 😮 Electric cars just make us produce more electricity and unless we make the electricity ourselves with solar power and the thugs will never allow us to do that .Another good reason for thug removal.. :gate: :omg: :jason: :jason:

I can see why Fat Heady is now number four in the radio talker community.. He speaks the same language as the Fundy churches do.. That nothing is going to change .. hence stability ..and absolutenesses… that the dividend/social security check will still arrive on schedule ..
The revelation by Ms Rant that these guys that were going to attack that military installation were just disillusioned Americans who were ticked off at making minimum wage might hold true for a a lot of Rocky Flats workers and they might know the whereabouts of a lot of that 6 tons ot PU they “lost” :reaper: :reaper: .
Druid, did I understand that Susan Joy was Ill? How is she doing?
On the bright side, if Andrea generates some mild storms in Florida, it might help douse the wildfires in the northeast part of the state. They were so massive Tuesday that the entire Tampa Bay area was under a cloud of smoke for most of the day. And we’re over 100 miles away from the fires!
As soon as I stepped outside yesterday morning before dawn, I could smell it. The smell reminded me of when we used to burn leaves in the fall, an aroma I hadn’t experienced in at least 30 years, since most municipalities no longer permit leaf-burning. At least not the ones I’ve lived in since then. It was really weird.
Of course, if hurricane season does kick in early, we could be as screwed as the people in Kansas, and for the same reasons: few troops and no equipment.
IMPEACHMENT!!!

Hey…home now…
bird eggs are OK…I was with Todd today and he was saying that he is worried that she laid 6…which is really the maximum…because sometimes birds keep laying if they sense that the eggs that they have laid are not viable…chances that they will all hatch are pretty nil, but I hope to get some!
Then, of course, he was pulling a baby conure from a nest there because the mom only feeds the first one…so as the others hatch they have to be hand fed…which is Ok if you have 2 people doing it because you have to wake ever 2-3 hours to feed those little pinkys…
Oh Im so nervous!! But then, maybe they are all just empty shells….
I dont know what to hope for anymore…
The baby they put in the incubator today was SO cute…just a funny little naked thing with a tuft of fuzz on its butt!
Will you post any pictures Melina?
Hey QG!
OK, I haven’t read backwards yet so someone may have said this but Cheney going to Iraq to encourage reconciliation and also lecture the Iraqi parliament on taking a 2 month vacation in the midst of a crisis? Should these people be expected to listen to this hypocrite jerk? Are they afraid he might tell them to go * themselves otherwise?
How much reconciliation has this ghoul brought to our country? And I think he has probably taken even more vacation than his ignoreamous “boss”. If memory serves he was completely awol during Katrina (not to mention ‘asleep at the switch’ on 9/11).
So A-man, what was it that got you? The tuft of fuzz on the butt?

roxie, re #55 I was not planning to put albums up but just suggest their visitation. I have just been enjoying some great stuff on the iPod at the gym. Working out to Leonard Cohen :rofl2: . To put them up for download, that would be wrong as RMN said and the streaming thing looks like it could be getting a little dicey as well.
However, from a Melina tip some months ago, I did set up a Farina/Kweskin/Muldaur station on Pandora you can check out and check MySpace.

Bahrain Prisoners Try Get out of Jail by Selling Kidneys
Prisoners in Bahrain who offered up their kidneys as a way out of jail were turned down by prison officials.

I will as soon as I can get in thebox. I dont want to upset them….and Im not sure if they will hatch…I can get a picture os the baby at the nursery though…its probably a sun conure because their breeding conures don’t seem to produce.
But youve got to know that Im gonna put a zillion pics up when/if they hatch.
Actually…on my blog at the end of today’s post is a pic of a clutch of baby conures….I think they are green cheeks like mine.
hey Andy, Melina and Druid :yippee:

Im imagining that you all are gonna be called as witnesses in my vehicular homicide trial…so, I never take my eyes from the road…not even to put on a little mascara!
I would agree with your mom though we lose electricity more and more around here too…Florida is gonna be under water before long…I think any of you out there who are still there should flee before long…of course there is also the right to die problem, no to mention the voting problem too…
Where to go? where to go?

Alaska officials want “tainted” oil tax replaced
Wed May 9, 2007 7:12PM EDT
U.S. News
By Yereth Rosen
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Reuters) – After learning that some lawmakers were bribed for their votes last year supporting a new profits-based oil tax desired by the oil industry, some state leaders are calling for the entire tax scheme to be scrapped.http://www.reuters.com/article/domesticNews/idUSN0932446820070509
Hey QG…nice to see ya…its been a while!
Yellow sided green cheeked conures to be exact!…They are my favorite bird…the quietest parrots, the cleanest, the least dander, can be trained, very cuddly and will speak after a year or two…very demonstrative and playful…very funny little birds…

Positively 4th Street: The Lives and Times of Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Mimi Baez Farina, and Richard Farina
On Tuesday, without note in the U.S. media, more than half of the members of Iraq’s parliament rejected the continuing occupation of their country. 144 lawmakers signed onto a legislative petition calling on the United States to set a timetable for withdrawal, according to Nassar Al-Rubaie, a spokesman for the Al Sadr movement, the nationalist Shia group that sponsored the petition.
It’s a hugely significant development. Lawmakers demanding an end to the occupation now have the upper hand in the Iraqi legislature for the first time; previous attempts at a similar resolution fell just short of the 138 votes needed to pass (there are 275 members of the Iraqi parliament, but many have fled the country’s civil conflict, and at times it’s been difficult to arrive at a quorum).
Reached by phone in Baghdad on Tuesday, Al-Rubaie said that he would present the petition, which is nonbinding, to the speaker of the Iraqi parliament and demand that a binding measure be put to a vote. Under Iraqi law, the speaker must present a resolution that’s called for by a majority of lawmakers, but there are significant loopholes and what will happen next is unclear.
