Happy Mother’s Day!
On Press the Meat, Timmy hosts a man only a mother could love, Maverick John McCain as part of the “Mr. Potatohead Meets the Candidates” series.
Then on Faze the Nation, Bush Buddy Bobby Schieffer talks War and Politics with Chuckie Hagel, Jeanne Cummings of the incessantly incorrect Politico.com, and Michel McQueen Martin, who is apparently from NPR.
Over at Fux News, the man not even a mother could love – Weaselface Wallace – hosts America’s Mom, the cross-dressing Rudy Guiliani, to remind us that he was the mayor of NYC on 9/11, and that somehow qualifies him to be preznit.
On the Goebbels network, it’s Barack Obama, and then the axis of drivel rides again, as Sam :omg: Donaldson, Cokie “the hag” Roberts, and George :jerk: Will sit around the roundtable and blather. Then Brooke Shields talks postpartum depression.
Wolf Blitzer’s Late Emission includes Mitch “the Prick” McConnell, Barbara Boxer, li’l Lindsey Graham, Drew Barrymore, and an assorted bunch of CNN hacks.
Later, on 60 Minutes, Mike “Gee, my kid’s an asshole” Wallace reports on Mitt “Big Love” Romney, Lesley Stahl listens to a bunch of realtors bitch about the Internet, and Bob Simon sees what’s up with Iraqi war orphan Ali Abbas, whose family was blown up (and arms were blown off) by “stray” bombs from the good old US of A. Oops.
Then it’s your basic Sunday night fare, including episode 6 of the final 9 Sopranos. Have a good day, muthas.
happy day mother of all blogs!

my mom stole my shoe
i just had a thought regarding social security fears:
when i graduated from high school in 1965, jobs were extremely available. i tested into a training class, paid for by the state (facilty), the feds (student stipend) and company, in this case boeing (teachers). all cooperating to fill jobs available due to the small number of workers. this situation changed, of course, as the baby boom continued to enter and eventually flood the workforce. but in those early days, competition for workers elevated wages and bennies. when i went to work for boeing i was making as much as my mother who was a psychiatric social worker — admittedly a relatively poorly remunerated field.
it seems to me that the debate on social security has ignored this aspect of the coming deflation of the workforce. smaller numbers of workers will be supporting larger numbers of retirees, but those workers will most likely be increasingly well paid.
anyone see any fallacies here (other than importing large numbers of cheap laborers — another reason i guess that i must reluctantly agree with thom hartman’s take on immigration)?
cresttwo, thanks for the affirmation, yesterday. I worry that it is only those of us who saw his regime upclose who realize that Giuliani is Bush on steroids.
I just read that he was booed in Texas because of his support for the Yankees and I know everyone thinks that it is just innocent fun, but his family’s support for the Yankees has a deep political importance.
There is a story for which I cannot vouch about ol’ Rudy and the Yankees:
When Rudy was 6 or 7 he lived in Brooklyn. At the time Brooklyn had the Dodgers. Rudy’s dad dressed the little Rudy in a Yankee uniform and sent him out to play where he was set upon and, according to the story, almost hanged by his playmates..
So, if you knew Brooklyn in those days why would you send your little kid out in a Yankee uniform? Perhaps because there was a great dispute because the Dodgers had integrated their team with the great Jackie Robinson. The Yankees were determined to have a segrated team and to keep baseball segregated.
This probably explains the distain with which Rudy treated the black community in NYC, redfusing to meet with his leaders, and blaming the black victims of police violence. It was during Giuliani that police assualted an innocent black man, Abner Louima and killed two innocent black men, Amadou Diallo and Patrick Dorismond.

good news on badboy jack.
good morning….Frank Rich compares McCain to Chuckie…ha!
another day in paradise…
no baby birds yet…that only means so far that egg 1 was probably a dud….next!!
The baby that I saved in the parking lot is apparently still alive
I think its being carted around in the same basket as a sun conure.
Ill be very surprised if it makes it….very small…like a finch or something
eya Melina!
was delighted to know you were expecting a parrot hatch!
i sincerly hope every one of them make it into this turbulent little world
and good on ya for saving that lil finch.
we have a flock of em that hang out by the koi pond.
heres pics of the pond and grandy dotter Leah:
http://www3.telus.net/Art-Adventures/Koi%20Pond/
Oh Jim…I want a koi pond so badly…but Im waiting till I can build a house some day on my land…
There is a furniture store here called Bob’s Discount Furniture that has the most incredible and huge indoor pond with some incredible koi…huge ones…they must be worth thousands of dollars…and they are like dogs in how they interact. Really cool!
The 6 eggs all hatching would be a very difficult thing because there is little chance that she could feed all of those and since they hatch every day or two, the later ones are smaller so cant fight for the food….so I would have to hand feed the littler ones, and they have to eat every 2-3 hours at that age (finches eat probably every hour)…and likely I would have to give them to the bird store because they have a couple of people who trade off the nights and stuff…in the spring they are always actively feed 60-100 babies…
If they can make it 3 weeks or so in the nest then I can finish off feeding them around ever 4-5 hours and wean them so they are tame and then I can sell them for some amount of money that is probably less than what I spend of seed…
Im just lucky to have such a specialized place here that deals with parrots and has been doing this work for over 30 years.
cute Leah too!…very sweet…
My pond was turnied into a swimming pool for my father in the 40’s and then allowed to delapidate back into a pond…and its a mess of wildlife with huge snapping turtles and great frog hunting….lots of black rat snakes up there, and one living in the basement that is HUGE…has been there for 13 years!
And right now is peeper time so the boys have been out hunting them at dusk (before the s’mores by the fire pit…man is this some sorta idyllic dream or what?) by looking for their little inflating throats when they peep looking for each other…
They are so tiny! I make them put them back pretty quickly because I want them to find each other and make eggs…
Then the fun starts because you can keep eggs in a container and watch the little tadpoles develop and hatch, then set em free…
I love it here in spring. Ive been coming here since I was a little baby.
I want one of these
But Im not sure what the status of the bird flu is and I wonder if its OK in the winter….and if its big enough…
If re EarthWorms … 8) I  EarthWorms — I can miss anything regarding The EarthWorm Wonderment and Magic especially for the (Organic) Soil. that bird egglu is a treat!
i have an unlimited source of young hens from the bird ranchers out here for free. they’re undersized for a number of reasons none of them really important, mainly cuz they get edged out by the slightly older chicks for the hormone feeder. fine with me.
might have to grab a few. wondering how the jack russels would interact…love to have a few morning roosters just to bug the peeps in the humongous apartment building they’re putting up across the lane.
where is there Melina?
you can consult with me when it’s koi pond construction time.

Druid, I think the Country DCs are on Austin City Limits next week.
This week is the great Kinks co-founder and lover of New Orleans lover Ray Davies. The Kinks took a hack at Country but this was my favorite. I was hoping the Kinks might show up on the top o’ the MSBlog some morning. This may not happen since today we learned that the Brits brought disease (and bad teeth) to the New World.

Mother’s Day: Originally a Day for Peace
By Last Night in Little Rock
“Mother’s Day was originally designated as a day to inspire people to work for peace. It was conceived after wars at home and abroad by American abolitionist and suffragist Julia Ward Howe.” RediscoverMothersDay.org.
Besides initiating the tradition of Mother’s Day, Howe is best known as the author of the words to “The Battle Hymn of the Republic”. As a pacifist during the Civil War, she witnessed the devastating effects of the conflict through her work with widows and orphans. In 1870 she wrote the “Mother’s Day Proclamation,” a call to women to oppose war and to convene to promote peace and be the architects of their family’s — and their own — political futures. She presented it at international peace conferences in London and Paris , where she lamented the atrocities of not only the American Civil War, but also the Franco-Prussian War.
Howe envisioned the first “Mother’s Day” as a time for women to gather, grieve and determine a peaceful solution to war.
Howe’s 1870 “Mother’s Day Proclamation” reads:
Let women now leave all that may be left of home for a great and earnest day of counsel.
Let them meet first, as women, to bewail and commemorate the dead.
Let them solemnly take counsel with each other as to the means / Whereby the great human family can live in peace, / Each bearing after his own time the sacred impress, not of Caesar, / But of God.
In the name of womanhood and humanity, I earnestly ask / That a general congress of women without limit of nationality / May be appointed and held at someplace deemed most convenient / And at the earliest period consistent with its objects, / To promote the alliance of the different nationalities, / The amicable settlement of international questions, / The great and general interests of peace.
“President Woodrow Wilson declared an official national Mother’s Day in 1914, approving the Congressional resolution to celebrate the day every year on the second Sunday in May.”
MomO taught me to read and then turned me on to science fiction in 1958. i thank her for both every year. )
Thanks, Jim.
West Virginians like to claim Mothers’ Day as their creation before the Wilson declaration up around where my family hails from. Now I know they just stole it a little bit.
Feel Like I’m Fixing To Die Rag (Next Stop Vietnam)
Country Joe & the Fish
Come on all of you big strong men
Uncle Sam needs your help again
he’s got himself in a terrible jam
way down yonder in Viet Nam so
put down your books and pick up a gun we’re
gonna have a whole lotta fun
(CHORUS)
And it’s one, two, three, what are we fighting for
don’t ask me I don’t give a damn, next stop is Viet Nam
And it’s five, six, seven, open up the pearly gates
ain’t no time to wonder why, whoopee we’re all gonna die
Come on generals, let’s move fast
your big chance has come at last
now you can go out and get those reds
cos the only good commie is the one that’s dead and
you know that peace can only be won when we’ve
blown ’em all to kingdom come
Come on wall street don’t be slow
why man this war is a go-go
there’s plenty good money to be made by
supplying the army with the tools of its trade
let’s hope and pray that if they drop the bomb,
they drop it on the Viet Cong
Come on mothers throughout the land
pack your boys off to Viet Nam
come on fathers don’t hesitate
send your sons off before it’s too late
and you can be the first ones on your block
to have your boy come home in a box
Sue P,
Unbelievable we are there again only worse.
I guess the ‘mothers throughout the land’ part is the reason. I remember that a Boston DJ who was pretty cool had a problem with be the first ones on your block to have your boy come home in a box which made me immediately go out and buy the album. A friend and mentor made some good money on that song and it put some potatoes on the plate for me for a number of years and served well some wonderful enterprises advancing and preserving some great music. Country Joe McDonald has been active of late. I have heard him on the radio here several times recently.

It would seem that the SBR’s adventures in imperialism and the not good results have been recognized for a long time yet putting the information out there without putting a solution out there has resulted in … err.. apparently nothing… A sociopath only understands what happens when they for some reason begin to be disappeared in large enough numbers that they notice .. :reaper: :reaper:
As long as the “conventional media” manages to reach the number of people that its does the “truth” will never get out there and the sheep milling around bawling loudly with out leadership will just result in confusion. until the wolf eats us all. :reaper: :reaper:
I wonder why the “rest” of the world sees what is happening in Iraq so well yet the STUPID MORONS in the SBR continue to live in denial . :reaper: :reaper:
