Wow an electronic etch a sketch ๐ฎ
One has to wonder with the use of electronic media how much creativity is lost on a weekly basis due to computer crashes.
In a hundred years will we still be able to read a CD Rom .. ??
WJ on C-span is discussion closing GTMO.. The thug callers are always such a bunch of uninformed fools aka IDIOT MORONS ( and there a lot of them today ๐ฎ ) :reaper: :reaper:
Don’t we know and have known for some some time that most of the people in GTMO are not enemy combatants ??
emails have certainly improved (or increased anyway) the amount of correspondence available to historians who were just last century were complaining about the switch from letters to phone calls.
actually, super duper electronic etch-a-sketch would be a great ad campaign for this toy!
melina might want one of these for the boys.
How many people today can read a paper tape or even know what the apparatus on the side of a ASR33 is for or for that matter even know what an ASR33 is .?? ๐ฎ ๐ฎ
Can you sill buy paper tape ??
Our highly advanced military and even the FAA seem to be living in the past to some extent ..
A couple of years ago I went on a tour of Loveland Center which is the FAA air traffic control center for the central SBR.. They have an entire floor with computer mainframes on it .. Three CDC 6400s.. The hardware there was installed in 1963 and none of the upgrades ( which they have spent billions on) have succeeded .. The display consoles still use vacuum tubes.
The operations manager said that most of the militaries space radars are of similar technology. They cost hundreds of millions of dollars to build fifty years ago.. what would they cost to recreate ?? A 100 billion, a trillion dollars a peace .. ??
or the texas instruments version for 8.99?
fred sheesh…get a Mac already… :smack:
I drove 11 hours yesterday :billcat:
why am I awake?
back to sleepy sleep.
mornin’ blue, nighty night…
I have a Wacom graphics tablet, and it’s pretty sweet. It’s a lot more than something to draw with. It has like 1,024 levels of pressure sensitivity (in other words, it can tell how hard you’re pushing), and 180 degrees of angle (you can do calligraphy with it). It’s fantastic for making selections in Photoshop, and great for doign marking and brush work. Plus, turn it around, and use it as an eraser (with the pressure, you can lightly erase parts, the way you would with pencil). It’s also great for doing text highlighting and copy/paste stuff, since it’s a much more natural motion. Has all kinds of programmable buttons, too. You can even lift up the plastic thing on the tablet, and shove a picture in there, and trace it, if you so desire.
Let’s see, I can’t actually remember the last time my computer crashed, let alone that I lost anything. Not that I’ve been terribly creative. I do, of course, recommend this video (from a Mac person).
Re: 26
I dunno PJ, I had many of those problems with my pc. I haven’t had any problems mith my Mac.
PC, Mac, they’re both filled with frustration. I notice he talked about knowing DOS and other such esoteric stuff that is not part of my brain. I cannot count the times that I have wanted to take my computer to the window and give it a flying lesson.
WASHINGTON (AP) – The government warned consumers on Friday to avoid using toothpaste made in China because it may contain a poisonous chemical used in antifreeze. Out of caution, the Food and Drug Administration said, people should throw away toothpaste with labeling that says it was made in China. The FDA is concerned that these products may contain diethylene glycol.
snip
Officials said they are primarily concerned about toothpaste sold at bargain retail outlets. The ingredient in question, called DEG, is used as a lower-cost sweetener and thickening agent. The highest concentration of the chemical found in toothpaste so far was between 3 percent and 4 percent of the product’s overall weight.
snip
The agency also issued an import alert Friday for all dental products containing DEG. The alert means toothpaste from China will be stopped at the border, she said.
The alert says the agency found DEG in three products manufactured by Goldcredit International Trading in China. The products are Cooldent Fluoride, Cooldent Spearmint and Cooldent ICE. Analysis of the products revealed they contained between 3 percent and 4 percent DEG.
The agency also found the chemical in one product manufactured by Suzhou City Jinmao Daily Chemical Co. in China. Analysis of that product, Shir Fresh Mint Fluoride Paste, found it contained about 1 percent DEG.
Good thing I buy Tom’s of Maine all natural toothpaste. 8)
Maybe the media, focusing on the tainted products from China will cause Americans to demand more Made in the USA products and cause a rennaisance of manufacturing here.

I don’t have much of a problem with the computer crashing with the blue screen of death as it did so often with Windoz 95, 98 and Me. :crap: … but… writing and rewriting big files in the same directory tends to produce bad blocks so you get the message that Windoz has terminated your application a lot more often.. ๐ฎ ๐ฏ
Engineering uses Solid Works for an integrated design system and the poor girl that flies that has nothing but four letter words for the number of times she has saved her 200 megabyte design and had the program get terminated by Windoz..
She has like a 500geg raid storage array in the computer so you would think it would fix things on the fly.

As climate change gets more pronounced more and more places will see more and more violent weather yet we accept that as “normal” activity..
We have no war on the weather.
If we were to accept non nuclear teroroism as “normal” activity would it
1. Occurr any more often than violent weather ??
2. Destroy any more property than violent weather??
3. Kill any more people than violent weather??
or
Would it just peter out because it had no effect ??

Gates urges China to explain military intentions
US Defense Secretary Robert Gates called on China Thursday to explain its intentions in undertaking a major military buildup that the Pentagon warns is altering the military balance in the region.
“There is no question that the Chinese are building significant capacity,” Gates said. “Our concern is over their intent.”

A.I.V. … Now I’m hungry and :pirate: “need me tea”!
Hey everyone. I was going to go out and get some stuff done this morning, but it rained all day yesterday due to Barry, and apparently started up again sometime last night. The alarm went off this morning, I heard the rain and just rolled over. Nothing puts me out faster than the sound of rain at night, and after being sleep-deprived again this week, today was a great opportunity for catch-up.
The big speech is Wednesday. I might have to rewrite it a little, as the woman who is following me had an objection to the dog-humping-leg reference that closes the speech. Compromise seems likely, especially since I am interested in engaging in some extra-curricular activities with her at some point. :hubba:
Last night I dreamed that I was supposed to give a speech on architecture, but couldn’t find a copy of the speech on the day I was supposed to give it. Why architecture, I have no clue. Maybe I was having a George Costanza moment. (Or would that be Art Vandelay?)

How about Lexan sales.. Bullet proof but it turns yellow in sunlight :reaper: :tommygun:
fred,
when i mived ito my house, i had (generic) lexan cut and hole drilled, put a foam strip around the edges and installed over my windows as an insulation/security thing. i’ve been here almost ten years and no yellowing. they’re very easy to scratch, however, so kind of hard to wash.
Well in the northeast and at sea level it is overcast a lot so the ultraviolet may not get though as well.. Lexan definitely turns yellow in Colorado :yuck: It takes like 20 years of southeastern exposure before it gets really opaque. :fustrate: :paranoid:
fred:
maybe you should get some sunsetter awnings “tell ’em about the discount fred!”
Railroad locomotives use a laminated window glass with a Lexan pane in between two tempered glass panes. It makes them more impervious to cinder blocks and drunks dropped off bridges.. In the northeast corridor the dropping of cinder blocks off bridges in front of approaching trains was so common before Lexan Conrail and Amtrak hired snipers to ride on the locomotives, :reaper: :tommygun: :tommygun:
I guess if they screwed it up it was attributed to a drive by shooting ๐ฎ ๐ฏ
That was way before 50 caliber assault rifles were legal so I think the cause was obvious. :reaper: :reaper:
A lot of the time the dropee fell off the bridge in front of the train so the reason for the fall was rather obscured… but .. A person hitting a metro liner at 120 mph made for a rather large mess. :yuck: :barf: :fustrate: :paranoid:
