Well, it aint Friday yet, but at least Monday’s over with. A couple of interesting Supreme Court rulings yesterday. First, they decided (by a 5-4 vote, thanks very much to everyone who helped Bush steal two elections) that there’s no such thing as free speech anymore, and you can’t hold up a “bong hits for Jesus” sign on public property. Then they ruled (yep, 5-4) that American citizens don’t have the right to file a law suit against the king executive branch. They also wiped out a provision of the already inadequate McCain Feingold campaign finance bill (do I need to say it was 5-4?). And, again by a 5-4 vote, the Supremes ruled to neuter federal regulators, to the benefit of developers (say, “bye-bye” to the Endangered Species Act). Just another day in Bush’s ‘merika. And another 573 or so to go.
now there’s one reason to be at least happy-ish about the 2006 election: at least it won’t be 6 to 3, or even 7 to 2 for the next fifteen years. and hopefully 1 or 2 of these tight assed holes will pop off shortly after the 2008 elections.
aleto and thomas are both pretty tightly wound.
from this blog to gaia’s ear…..
:reaper:
Yeah, but the one most likely to go next is Stevens, and if the Repigs cheat again and hold the White House, that makes it 6-3 for a long time. Not acceptable in this house.
Which is why impeachment proceedings need to start immediately.
Speaking of impeachment, DENNIS KUCINICH is scheduled to be on Letterman this Friday. Hopefully he will be able to squeeze some actual content in between Dave’s wisecracks about his lack of height and being half as tall as his wife. We’ll see.
😀
Too much ozone today, so we’ve been advised not to breathe.
another way the neocons expect us to evolve: the ability to covert ozone to O2. you techies need to get to work on that!
c’mon, wake up :sheep: le!

It seems the Iraqui’s catch on quick to the ways of American business.
This story from al-Malaf is currently the talk of the forums: Sitar Abu Risha, head of the Anbar Salvation Council, has allegedly fled Iraq with $75 million that the Americans had given him to fight al-Qaeda. The story links his flight to the near-collapse of the Anbar Salvation Council over infighting among its leadership [and] claims that he simply never distributed the American cash to the fighters, who are now threatening to go on strike if they don’t get paid. Seeing as how the Anbar Salvation Council has for months now been portrayed as the great American hope in the battle against al-Qaeda, if this story turns out to be true – a big if, given the shaky sourcing to this point – then it would be a rather embarrassing fiasco.
I woke up in my own bed, made my own coffee, and hubby didn’t say, “Let’s get going.”
I spoke to my son, who called to tell me that he had tuned into Lionel last week and couldn’t stand him. No surprise there. I wonder how Lionel is doing?
I did get to hear the Young Turks and I thought they weren’t bad. Is the woman still there or not? They’re certainly better than Greenbean and Army which is what we NYer’s are treated to.
Does anyone remember Long John Nebel? I used to listen to him when I was a young kid. He came on at Midnight and went on ’til 5 AM. (I guess I was never a good sleeper.) He used to talk to all manner of kooks about aliens and space ships and a building in Manhattan that had an elevator that went to the center of the earth.
I finally found two disks of his shows at a site about UFO’s. (Now they keep sending me ads for UFO stuff) We listened to him a lot as we drove across the country and he was even funnier as an adult than he was to a kid. He broadcast on WOR out of NY and he reached 27 states. I’m told he was listened to by doorman and other grave shift workers.
He came on right after Gene Shepard who could weave an engrossing tale from just about anything.
Good Morning :joe: I heard both Jeff Farias and Mike Malloy talk about rage fatigue. I think that’s what I have. :smack:
Philly had Long John Wade, named no doubt for his height.

…If you want to learn just how Rove wants to use the legal system to settle political scores. Of course, I’ve always felt that Alabama was really a third world banana republic run by the sort of folks who belong in John Grisham novels — but I digress.
And, apparently, it all would’ve worked perfectly but Dana Simpson, a Republican, had to open her mouth and blow the whistle. So now the Rovian mafioso-like intimidation begins:
The response to Simpson’s affidavit has been a series of brusque dismissive statements – all of them unsworn – from others who figured in the discussion and the federal prosecutor in the Siegelman case, who has now made a series of demonstrably false statements concerning the matter. She’s been smeared as “crazy†and as a “disgruntled contract bidder.†And something nastier: after her intention to speak became known, Simpson’s house was burned to the ground, and her car was driven off the road and totaled. Clearly, there are some very powerful people in Alabama who feel threatened. Her case starts to sound like a chapter out of John Grisham’s book The Pelican Brief.

Reminder to
Save music on the internets
The future of Internet radio is in immediate danger. Royalty rates for webcasters have been drastically increased by a recent ruling and are due to go into effect on July 15 (retroactive to Jan 1, 2006!). To protest these rates and encourage the millions of net radio listeners to take action and contact their Congressional representatives, today is a national Day of Silence. Webcasters across the country have dedicated this day to increasing awareness of this looming threat and gathering support for the SaveNetRadio collation and our campaign to preserve music diversity on-line. For an updated list of the participants in this national day of silence, visit http://www.kurthanson.com/dos/. Net radio listeners, please excuse the interruption of your normal programming and take action to ensure this silence is not permanent. Call your Congressional Representatives today.
Where is everybody? Wow. Krista’s rage fatigue must be contagious.

I don’t have cable so I am going to have to hunt this down tonight but Elizabeth Edwards called out Ann C :barf: ter this afternoon when she was on the Tweety Show for comments she has been making about John and their late son. :yippee:
http://thinkprogress.org/2007/06/26/edwards-coulter/
I just listened to the Elizabeth Edwards, Coulter replay. All I can think is that Coulter is as disgusting a person as she ever was. I would be mortified if some left wing looney hate monger represented my views and I cannot understand why she has any support.
I think that people like Coulter and Malkin do much harm to their side. That’s OK with me as long as I don’t have to watch.
We have finally gotten the cats and they seem to be fine. They’re not too miffed at us so the cat sitter must have done a very good job while we were exploring.
Of course they did have a fine time knocking stuff off shelves. Somehow the dogs have gotten the cats, mainly Clifford, to knock down their box of milkbones. If I’m not watchful Clifford does it and the dogs have a feast. What he gets in return is a secret known only to him, but all boxes of milkbones were on the floor when we got home. :cat:
If it were me there would so be a booby trapped box of milkbones somewhere in Clifford’s future. Nothing dangerous. Maybe crazy glued to the shelf or some scary noise set to go off.
One tampers with a cat’s desires at one’s peril. Cats have many ways of getting even and Clifford knows too many of them.
Now finally, after more than a century of puzzling, scientists are finding answers coming fast and furious and from a surprising quarter, the field known as evo-devo. Just coming into its own as a science, evo-devo is the combined study of evolution and development, the process by which a nubbin of a fertilized egg transforms into a full-fledged adult. And what these scientists are finding is that development, a process that has for more than half a century been largely ignored in the study of evolution, appears to have been one of the major forces shaping the history of life on earth.
For starters, evo-devo researchers are finding that the evolution of complex new forms, rather than requiring many new mutations or many new genes as had long been thought, can instead be accomplished by a much simpler process requiring no more than tweaks to already existing genes and developmental plans. Stranger still, researchers are finding that the genes that can be tweaked to create new shapes and body parts are surprisingly few. The same DNA sequences are turning out to be the spark inciting one evolutionary flowering after another. “Do these discoveries blow people’s minds? Yes,†said Dr. Sean B. Carroll, biologist at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. “The first response is ‘Huh?’ and the second response is ‘Far out.’ â€

posts are few but very interesting…alabama, net music, cats, and ❓ evo-devo — i wonder who came up with that name.
very catchy = we are all evo-devo..
just got home from the dentist, so it might be the drugs!
Are we not evo-devo?
OMG :omg: If evo devo is paving the way for evolving body parts within a life time, then, the Future Marc where Riley has evolved gills may be a reality! Marc is a visionary!
When the labor bill got killed in the Senate today, one talker was asking what ever happened to that old ‘up and down vote’ saw. It made me think of Devo and their song ‘Wiggly World’ . It’s never straight up and down. It seems strange that Devo is becoming so relevant..

So, I’m watching some movie with Eddie Murphy, A Distinguished something or other. Eddie Murphy is a con man who cons his way into office by having the same name as a congressman who died just before the election and gets elected. So, he’s in office and seeing the perks and dirt and he’s involved in an accident with a congressman and another congressman wants to get in his good graces so he has him sent to……Walter Reed Hospital! :rofl2:
One of the highlights of my concert going experience is seeing the Devo one-off splinter group called Dove. They did gospel and soul tunes, with a wicked take of Dylan’s “Gotta serve Somebody”. Of course they brought out Booji Boy, who did a fundamentalist rant, ala Mort Mortenson. This was circa 1980.
Are we not Dove?
We are Devo!
Vernon,
That’s the show I saw !!!!
:fist:
The first Dove video was filmed in the huge fieldhouse at the U of Minnesota. It was indooors but had bare dirt. No one could ever figure out what they used that building for. Another group that played there was called The Girls, IIRC. They had a big buzz, showed up, obviously couldn’t play their instruments, made a big scene, and stormed off. Pretty funny in retrospect.
