I can’t write much today, because I literally can’t sit here and type for very long, thanks to my back. It’s freakin’ killing me. It was all I could do to drive home last night. I’m trying not to breathe much, ‘cuz that hurts, too. This should be a really fun day at work.
pj: if lower back, try wearing a back support belt (like hardware guys wear) to bed. i know it sounds wierd but it really really works. if upper back (sounds more like, if breathing hurts) see a chiropractor asap. also ice, before and after adjustment, for 20 minutes every 2 hours. go to sleep on one of those ice pads.
Oooh, thanks for the Krista Alert Kev

Good Morning. :joe:
My previous boyfriend used to wear corsets around the house or under his clothes because it made his back feel better. Now that’s even weirder than a back brace!
Roxie, Yea on your last 3hrs … OF WORK (4 now) :reaper: A!I!V!
White House officials arranged for top officials at the Office of National Drug Control Policy to help as many as 18 vulnerable Republican congressmen by making appearances and sometimes announcing new federal grants in the lawmakers’ districts in the months leading up to the November 2006 elections, a Democratic lawmaker said yesterday.
Rep. Henry A. Waxman (Calif.), chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said documents obtained by his panel suggest that the appearances by the drug control officials were part of a larger White House effort to politicize the work of federal agencies that “may be more widespread than previously known.”.
Waxman cited a memo written by former White House political director Sara M. Taylor showing that John P. Walters, director of the drug control office, and his deputies traveled at taxpayer expense to about 20 events with vulnerable GOP members of Congress in the three months leading up to the elections.

good morning everyone…another very wet day here…very wet…stormy…afraid to see what the basement is doing.
PJ, you may need to do something drastic like pilates….
I had such back problems and always use the cervical cusion in the car and stuff…did PT for over a year…and really Pilates helped more than anything. Its about strengthening your core while stretching. Alot of men do it.
I would suggest finding a mat class in your area and trying it once or twice a week. They may have it trough the hospital even.
Of course, if this goes on and youre fully on the health plan you can always go out on disability;-) But really, its not good to grow old without a strong core…its gonna make getting old alot more comfortable and easy as far as getting around.
Roxie, if still there ๐ …. the black back brace, which works (one can even wear under clothes), however, if worn at night, is that instead of elevated knees & legs, or along with?
IBUPROFEN, PJ, (yet drink tons of water for kidneys) when really really bad — IF ONE DOES NOT STRETCH AND EXERCISE regularly ๐ (and sometimes even when ones does).
I have not found any herbs (ointments and rubs help a bit) that take away the pain … except one that works on knots and blocks. ๐ … A!I!V! this is just for what I found work, a bit. ๐
JFI Butt “Grips and Releases” (one can even do at desk) but also Butt “Contractions and Releases” and “Stomach Crunches” help to strenghten that “area”. Good Luck in All You Do  :fist: A!I!V!
Melina re 8  ๐
I am looking at time involved … my vote is  Pilates, however, no time. PJ … however, if no time for class one fear is without a teacher to “watch over” proper posture
one could get hurt. However, All butt exercises you can do while watching TV or listening to a show and perhaps with RG :hubba: . Same with “tummy crunches”. Once you conquered that then … teehee Let’s see… there can be some dumb-bells work out ๐ :rofl2:
BTW A MAT IS IMPORTANT! Just another view, YET, I do agree with Melina, overall.
pj- Just another in what will probably be a long list of suggestions today but whatever you do, go see a good physical therapist. They’ll be able to pinpoint the cause and give you some good specific exercises to do. I sit at a computer about half the time I’m at work-it’s a killer.
Get out of that chair every half hour if possible for five minutes at a time.
Look at the angle the chair puts your hand in relationship to the mouse pad.
Have RG rub some peppermint oil where you hurt.
Melina is so right about the importance of having (and keeping) a good core.
Aging is not easy and you need to stay ahead of the game.
take care buddy, okay? :peace: :joe:
artnorton , ” good physical therapist” …… I forgot about them :smack: … (However, many cannot “feel” and are a bit pedestrian) >>> BUT A GOOD ONE IS BEST PROBABLY FOR PJ, ๐ if PJ Deems 8) *poof*
Art, I am hoping to address the richness factor of Edwards campaign along with some of this backlash at Elizabeth Edwards pointing out the differences between Hillary’s health plan as opposed to John”s…actually am spending too much time over on Simply Left Behind commenting about Carl’s rant today…
Also, I cant get my quicktime pro thing straightened out unless I go back through my credit card stuff, so I still dont have Sammy from last thursday…if anyone has it and can sign on to a messenger I would love it. I just cant download quicktime for some reason.
And I would just listen on the computer but I have to run out…of course…Just too much going on this week.
Is Vern out there?
I signed on to second life because the yearly kos is supposedly being hosted there in virtual reality…anyway, I can hardly get my girl to walk, much less have the time to figure it out…have to have the boys show me…
I am Mellina Babii , goth alien gal, there…and so far I am just trying to get out of a building that I am flying around in.
Hello from Hospital Land :slap:
Lunchtime here. I had PJ start on naproxen gelcaps yesterday as it is an excellent NSAID for this sort of thing. I’ve tried for years to get him to do TaiChi or Yoga but he will not participate in anything that involves being around other people, so we can forget that. I’m sure he’d say Pilates is way too “girly” :smack:
He dutifully rides the exercise bike for 1/2 hour morning & evening & walks the dog in the park everyday. He is looking pretty darn good :hubba:  from those efforts. He does not, however, have the best posture and that is an issue that could be helped tremendously with a stretching/back specific exercise. He’s too stubborn & cheap to go to our chiropractor (who also does herbal stuff & has acupuncture & massage available in his office & is Dr. Holistic). I’ll have to look around for a man-corset for him. I’m sure there are all kinds of interesting things online ( :rofl2: ) at medical supply establishments.
So, I don’t know, he’s a pretty stubborn fella what with being Irish AND German :fustrate: :slap:
Well, back to the trenches :reaper: :tommygun: the g*&^%mn insurance companies :tommygun: . This place is SICKO :rant1:
RG :yippee: and :rofl2: :rofl2: :fist: :rofl2: (Yea RG) JFI between you and I, those mostly floor (mat) exercises are for The (mostly lower) Back and I finaly got my mostly german welsh (with a touch of Irish) so not really charming just stubborn :rofl2: :rofl2: ๐ To Do The Very Important Dumb-Bell … which now he worships but not as fun as floor exercises CAN :bee: :hubba: teehee … RAGING Granny.
Give Them Hell, In The Trenches amongst the Many EVIL Ones :reaper: SICKO :tommygun: :pirate: :dancers: :fist:
then :peace: ๐
OK, back advices comes pretty cheap around here so I guess I will give up mine.
For starters, get a Tush Cush. I have one for the office and a smaller one for the car.
I was going to mention the stationary bike. When I had back problems my chiro told me to do that leaning as far forward over the handle bars as possible to stretch out the lower back. I also like to roll on a foam roller or exercise ball to extend the lower back.
Finally, if you can get them, try taking valium or xanax at bedtime for several nights in a row. Sometimes when you have a problem with muscle spasms and pain, you don’t entirely rest at night and your aggravated area never fully relaxes and does heal. Sadly, alcohol or other muscle relaxants and pain killers don’t help in that regard. A doc recommended that once when I strained something in my rib cage and it also helped me with my back
I’m with you on that group exercise thing, pj. Must be an Irish/German/Taurus thing for me.
Afternoon all. Just for the record, pilates is way too girly.

After GOP Iraq-Withdrawal Filibuster, Reid Sets Aside Defense Authorization Bill
In an in-your-face response to Republicans continuing to block a full Senate vote on withdrawing American troops from Iraq, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) just moments ago set aside the pending Defense Authorization Bill until the Senate’s Republican leadership stops defying the will of the majority of Congress and the American people and allows votes on the Iraq occupation.
I don’t know about the Xanax, but I’ve been trying an herbal remedy, as well as another all-natural blend of malt and hops. Today has been much better, but my back is starting to light up right now. I have a tush cush (I call it an ass wedge) someplace, from when this happened to me a couple of years ago. This seems much worse though. I was starting to wonder if I had kidney stones or something. Maybe cancer of the spine. The pain goes all the way up to my shoulder blades. I just hope I can manage to take the dog out later, ‘cuz he didn’t get to go last night.
Anyhow, thanks for all the suggestions.
I knew a nun who claimed that her German/Irish heritage was what made her a “not to be toyed with” teacher. Hubby is German/Irish and stubborn but I chalked that up to the y chromosome.
Hey Dudes Dumb-bells are not a “girlie” thing. Nor is the “grip” of the Butt. Even a jock has to do “tummy and butt crunches”, also.

An analysis of thousands of skulls shows modern humans originated from a single point in Africa and finally lays to rest the idea of multiple origins, British scientists said on Wednesday.
Most researchers agree that mankind spread out of Africa starting about 50,000 years ago, quickly establishing Stone Age cultures throughout Europe, Asia and Australia.
But a minority have argued, using skull data, that divergent populations evolved independently in different areas.
The genetic evidence has always strongly supported the single origin theory, and now results from a study of more than 6,000 skulls held around the world in academic collections supports this case.

Former Republican Majority Leader Tom DeLay told a gathering of College Republicans that a link exists between legal abortion and illegal immigration in America. The remarks were included in a video produced by writer Max Blumenthal and posted at The Huffington Post.
“I contend [abortion] affects you in immigration,” DeLay told the Washington-area gathering. “If we had those 40 million children that were killed over the last 30 years, we wouldn’t need the illegal immigrants to fill the jobs that they are doing today. Think about it.”

I must raise my voice in howling protest against those who are calling Pilates “girly.” I did it for about five months around the end of last year, and believe me when I tell you that between the sweating, grunting, and loud swearing when I would accidentally swing my foot into the side of the coffee table, there’s NOTHING feminine about the way I did it. ๐
PJ, I share your distaste in doing stuff like this around other people, as I am my own best heckler and do not need assistance from an audience. There are plenty of Pilates programs on VHS and DVD that can be used for self-torture in the privacy of one’s own home. Not to mention that you can always pause the tape or disc should you need more of a break than Mistress Ilsa the instructor gives you.
I was thinking about starting up again myself, now that I have more room in the new place and my six-pack is almost a case these days. :40:

I watched a lot last night and Landrieu was a pleasant surprise. BTW, what did Vitter have to say?
Mary Landrieu is lucky to be in the senate since the number of democrats in LA was reduced by about half by the Katrina Hurricane. LA is destined to become a rethug dominion of gambling, fraud and corruption . … wait … wait.. it was already a dominion of gambling fraud , corruption and drugs before the hurricane. :reaper: :reaper:
Probably true, fred, but then again, I can see a lot of people in LA turning because of Katrina mismanagement. The Vitter thing is not going to help either. It would be sweet if he was forced to quit and Ms. Blanco could appoint the successor unencumbered.

A congressional committe is holding a hearing about flood insurance and both sides, insurers and reps, are discussing a public/private partnership. Thus we shall pay our premiums and our taxes to the insurance companies to INSURE that they turn a profit.
And Bush wants to have gov’t insurance for doctors so they don’t have to worry when they fuck up. So we’ll pay primiums for health insurance and taxes for doctors’ insurance. :barf:
Sounds like the Amerian way to me. :yuck:
NYPD says it’s a steam pipe NOT terrorists, (does that exclude Chaney?.) It blew a huge crater in the ground on Lex and 41st during rush hour traffic. No one is talking about anyone being hurt.

It does look as if hell is bibbling up.

melina- with all due respect….., just what is the ‘richness’ factor of Edwards? They’re all rich and the only reason it’s even brought up as a ‘factor’ is that it’s the only thing the MSM has to throw at Edwards due to the discomfort he causes rich rethuglican bastards by bringing up the very real problem of poverty. :slap:
Go, pj, go!
pj- Just one additional thing- try to keep you spine straight when you’re sleeping. Temperpedic pillow under your head that keeps your head aligned- pillow between your knees and arms (or RG between your arms :hubba: )
If you were in Denver, I could guide you to a great physical therapist. If you see a doctor for X-rays- they’ll probably get it wrong- the therapist will spend more time with you and give you a better diagnosis.
I cannot do Pilates if my life depended on it — it’s too hard on the low back. I do yoga stretches (mostly for hamstrings) before getting out of bed and more yoga 3-5x/week. If you don’t want to go to classes, try the Rodney Yee videos. The cueing is good (if sometimes a bit out of synch) and there are videos for all levels. Bryan Kest has good ones too, but he talks a blue streak and it’s sort of like taking yoga from someone who sounds like he should be on THE SOPRANOS.

Hey, People-
Me a few other writer/performers are trying something this Friday at the UCB Theater here in LA. It’s a show with a theme. Deep Shit: Getting In, Getting Out. Here are the folks on the show. Should be interesting at the very least, funny and interesting at the very most and uneventful if you don’t come.
Jed Moran
Karen Corn
Morgan Murphy
Tom Agna
Don Kelly
Come down. 8PM. Friday July, 20th. UCB Theater LA 5919 Franklin. 323-908-8702 http://www.ucbtheatre.com/la/
Thanks,

I think I am going to support Kucinich. Yup, I am, I got the bumper sticker and everything. :fist:
It’s still a toss up between Edwards and Kucinich for me.
I guess with me if I am picking the dreamer candidate, I’ll take Gore.
I really think Hillary is closing on this thing fast.
Crap! I’ve got work on Friday. I need to take it. I’d drive to go see that, even though I don’t know any of the other people listed.
That’s because the media is giving it to her, like they gave it to Bush in 2000.
Computer Says No
Did anyone hear the bumper music end of Mike’s last segment?
Something about a revolution.
She’s getting endorsements is what I am saying. Ellen Tauscher today. Joe Wilson yesterday. She is closing the establishment.
wow, I have no idea why EVERYONE comes in and has a full conversation while I am trying to post one bloody thing … again the computer says no  ๐ ๐ … cheers all again … *Poof*
Confirmation: Elayne Boosler will be assisting the mooks on the Stephanie Miller show Thursday morning. Mama will be in DC providing some sort of information to Dem senators concerning fairness in media ownership. Not to be confused with the Fairness Doctrine, which for the record Steph does NOT want brought back. As usual, the Foxperts are confusing the issue.
Druid- you’re the Tinkerbelle of MSS-weaving into and out of conversations and thoughts……poof……poof :rofl2:
Re: 66
Fuck.
And the reason I’m up so late past my usual blogtime is because I have tomorrow OFF! But I have to get up to let the cable guy in, so that I have access to Olbermann, Colbert, Stewart and CSpan like everybody else. Plus the debate is coming up next Monday, and I want to watch Kucinich make the others squirm for threathening to leave him out.
Just for the record, I haven’t chosen anyone yet, but the little guy from Cleveland is winning me over. Again.
Because he’s right. Again.
Krista, I trust you to pull me up when I finally reach out and jump back on the bandwagon. I hope Dennis saved my seat from last time.
๐
Don’t know what you mean by that. Not saying that I like it but she is playing textbook and doing well at it.
Oh yeah, I just got on so I’m at the back of the wagon. I’m going back to my old ways of voting for the guy/gal who will probably never win. :nana:
I don’t want to have to vote for Hillary. Really, I think she is my least favorite of the Dems.
Re: 66. Who gives a shit. Wilson and his wife are too inside to actually come out publicly and support a progressive candidate. It won’t sway any undecided voters one way or the other. I faintly remember PJ mentioning this either upthread or yesterday, but I’m honestly too lazy to look for it now. But he’s right.
Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame have suffered enough for their country. I’m not going to criticize them for who they choose to support in the primaries.
Sorry if I sound like an asshole, I don’t mean to, I’m just tired and need to go home and wake up in time for the cable guy.
Man, did that sound gay. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
:rofl2:
You really think the cable guy is coming at the front end of his window, Kevin?? :rofl2: :rofl2: Although, he would if you slept in. I recently had a rash of technicians showing up EARLY! Imagine that!

OK, this is the last post for the night, I’m going to bed. This is the problem with this election. Those of us who actually follow the issues and give a shit vote for the candidate we think will do the best job.
The media votes for the candidates who they think :fu: have the best chance of winning or coming close.
We want a debate. They want American Fucking Idol.
And there are a lot more of them than there are of us.
No wonder we feel hopeless sometimes.
But I like the thought of Krista rocking the Kucinich bumper sticker around Tempe. At least it will piss off some McCain supporters, if there are any left.
:rofl2:
I’m in Phoenix now but I do still see a Bush sticker here and there. :dancers:
