Another bust weekend this weekend. In addition to the Simpsons movie being out, it’s also Harborfest weekend, in the land of one of my many alma maters (assuming hanging out at a school long enough to collect your student loan check before dropping out counts as an alma mater). I don’t reckon I’ll make it up there, since I have grass to cut, laundry to do, beer to brew, and maybe a few other things to get done in two very short days. Plus, the cat seems to be hanging out with me lately, so I’d better keep my eyes open for the grim reaper to show up.

What no one is up yet 😮 :reaper: :reaper:
❓ ❓ Whatever :sheep: le
present, sir!
I’m up, but I need to drink this coffee before I can make much sense.
Scientists are trying to determine if a millennia-old artificial big toe from ancient Egypt could really walk the walk.
snip
The false toe in the Cairo Museum is still attached to the mummified right foot of a woman thought to have been in her 50s when she died somewhere between 1069 and 664 BC.
Now researcher Jacky Finch of the University of Manchester’s KNH Center for Biomedical Egyptology is recruiting volunteers missing their right big toe to wear duplicates of the artifact, to see whether it really helps with balance and stride. If it does, that would suggest the appendage served a medical purpose

Ahh Haa yous guys were just hiding out to keep from being first :nixon: 😮 😯
True enough, Fred.
Iraq’s national government is refusing to take possession of thousands of American-financed reconstruction projects, forcing the United States either to hand them over to local Iraqis, who often lack the proper training and resources to keep the projects running, or commit new money to an effort that has already consumed billions of taxpayer dollars.

These people will never understand
capitalismdemocracy :tommygun: :tommygun:I would bet that if one looked at the governments of Western Europe while they were occupied by Germany during WWII that there would be a lot of parallels between what we see in Iraq today and what happened then .. The Neodorps and and a lot of demodorps just don’t get it .. :gate: :omg: :jason: :jason: :fist:
Bummer, Kristapea, hope this didn’t happen anywhere near where you are.

also that one of the pilots often takes his dog with him, but she hadn’t heard that this was the case. kind of makes it that much more real…
What ever happened to Friskies and Alpo :paranoid: :paranoid:
Iphone sends bill for every kilobyte accessed .
Unfortunately, Apple’s design gurus didn’t get to lovingly sculpt AT&T’s billing system, so when the first iPhone users opened their bills this month, they got a surprise. Actually, pages upon pages of surprises. Every single image gets assessed a fee based on its kilobytes, and is then painstakingly itemized on your AT&T bill.
Hundreds of listings of “Data Transfer” of type “Data” at rate code “MBRF,” along with its kilobytes. Never mind if the customer is on an unlimited data transfer plan. New York Times technology writer David Pogue’s bill was nine pages long. Daring Fireball’s was 45.

😮
fred: i don’t think friskies had anything recalled. alpo did, but not a huge number of products. i’m sure the whole industry has suffered. i switched to premium dry food exclusively.
fda funds, especially for testing labs has been drastically cut by bushco. quel surprise!
I was just referencing the people food titles that they had for their dog food .. I wonder when Healthy Choice and Marie Calenders are going to offer microwave meals with doggie portions included. 😮
Hey, you gotta give this kid a lot of credit.
#14 — Thanks, Roxie.
So very sad that 4 young people lost their lives in such a dramatic, horrible way. We had a rather horrible accident just about a mile or so from where we live yesterday.
The young woman who was impaled was the same age as my daughter in Minneapolis who is mother to my little granddaughter. Very scary how life can end in the blink of an eye and totally unexpectedly. :reaper: Devastating.
Horribly sad. I can’t imagine how brutal it must be to be stuck living in Iraq or Afghanistan where violence and death are just a constant thing. 🙁
:knit2:
That cop has never heard the teenagers up the street…. ouch ….
Oh, and I forgot to add:

Good Morning :joe:
In that helicopter crash, they weren’t sure if anyone on the ground got hurt but they said it was unlikely as not many people are outside in the park at that time of day. If you were right under it, it may have been difficult to figure out which way to run to avoid getting hit by shrapnel and the bulk of the wreckage. Like trying to figure out where to be when trying to catch a pop fly ball.
Good morning everyone. Off to see the Simpsons movie. D’oh!
that’s my NEW send off also :bee: 8) i.e. Be Cool :rofl2:

Papantonio was on Hartmann’s show this week, I think Thursday, talking about this. Should be interesting if he’s behind it.
The Simpsons movie is definitely worth seeing. May not make my ten best of the year, but worth the 90-minute investment. (Plus my ticket was free.) I won’t give away any spoilers, but if you go, stay through the credits. 😀
Kitchen Symphony

Goleft.tv would be better if was something more like C-span and offered a repeating loop of lets say 5 hours or so of programming with the current news tacked on at the top of the hour.

NOT very long ago, the Democratic Leadership Council was a maker of presidents
snip
But few headlines will be made this weekend at the council’s “National Conversation†in Nashville. The next president of the United States almost certainly won’t be there. Not only are Democratic front-runners like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama planning to skip the conference, but so are the Bill Richardsons and Chris Dodds of the field. That’s probably a good move for the candidates, as the council has become radioactive among Democratic primary voters. But the Democratic Leadership Council’s fading influence is also good news for the entire party.

I just heard STUPID(ity)! :bee: Well *POOF*
So, I just found out a gay friend of mine is a Michael Weiner fan :jerk: and he’s way more conservative than he should be for a gay man AND an artist. I have some work to do here. He didn’t know Air America was still on the air here so I told him where it is on the dial(NovaM). He believes that liberal radio doesn’t have the listeners. Tried to explain what happened here with the Christian station buying the radio station that AAR was at despite there being 9 christian radio stations here in the Phoenix market. That AAR was in the black within a year of being on the air. That Al Franken was in the top twelve within a year and how long did it take for Rush to get as many listeners as Al had ……blah blah blah. I wonder how well that christian station is doing, anyways?? Doesn’t matter if they lose money because they are doing the LORDS work :yuck:
Evening all
Kp. maybe your friend will enjoy this
Two words, one item, aka?
How I feel about helicopters
I looked at Rush Lintball’s website the other day (it was linked to something or other) and there was a piece by Rush about why liberal radio failed. O’Reilly too talks about AAR being (present tense) bancrupt. I guess that is the story that is out there. Keeps potential listeners like your friend, KP, from even looking for it.
fox lies (redundant?)
HANNITY: Hey, Senator, if your probable opponent in this race, Al Franken, had actually been successful on radio — but nobody listened — maybe he wouldn’t be running against you in this campaign.
COLEMAN: Listen, again, Air America, it got shut down, not because government thought they had to regulate the other side, but because people chose not to listen to them.
HANNITY: It’s absolutely…
COLMES: It’s still on. There’s still an Air America.
HANNITY: And people choose not to listen. Thank you, Senator.
Well, my friend says he listens to NPR and CONservative radio so maybe now that he knows where NovaM is he’ll start listening to that some too. Thing is, back when Limpprick was rising in the late eighties around the time the fairness doctrine went away stations usually had a balance of liberal and conservative and the talk station I was listening to began playing Rush. Soon the liberal hosts went away and then the conservative ones that were left began trying to sound like Rush. So, that’s when I stopped listening to talk radio. When you don’t have a choice, what choice is there?? My friend also had the notion that George Soros was financing all liberal talk radio :rofl2:
I’d like to forget the rise of Limppaw.
Of course, he broke out of Sacramento and that was part of my territory at the time (6 Tower stores and chain HQ) and I noticed this obnoxious personality coming out of people’s radios even though I was not hearing the content of his spew at the time. Then I heard my father back in VA talking about him. Dad, like me, would listen even though he totally infuriated him. :rant1:
:fu:
After not too long he had replaced Leo Laporte’s talk show on a San Francisco station, a move executed by Bob Agnew who is now the repug station manager of the Quake who I do not trust to this day.
It was same here when Weiner crawled out from under his rock and rose out of the weekend late night sub slots at KGO. I got to have a front row seat to watch that career launch. :barf:
:yuck:
At some point I weined myself off of both of their shows thanks to one great sports talk host in the AM and a fair sports talk show and NPR in the afternoon . Eventually it took AAR to get me off of them. I am back to the AM show since Hartmann took over.
Now I feel dirty.
Hecklers
So what do I do now? hmmmmm…I fell asleep at top of 9th, did Barry hit the final run to break the tie? ……….. A!I!V!
One-eye-jack is crying out — he wants outside — Now I am sad. 🙁
