Forgot to buy a mega-millions ticket last night, so I guess I won’t be winning the $55 million. There goes my earth-sheltered home, and my liberal radio network, featuring the best of the old AAR lineup (actually, you could just take all the shows that Goldfuck and Green – sounds like a law firm, doesn’t it? – murdered, and you’d have a helluva lineup). Oh well, maybe next time.
Happy August.

It’s been raining here since 11 AM yesterday. Everything is soaked, including me. Plus the AC in the building is not working, so this promises to be an interestingly-smelling day.
Tried to watch Dick Vader on Larry King last night but could only take about five minutes of it. What a fucking liar. IMPEACH THIS ASSHOLE!

Adm. Michael G. Mullen, President Bush’s nominee to head the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told a Senate panel yesterday that the war in Iraq is taking a heavy toll on the U.S. military, warning that American forces are “not unbreakable” and stressing the need to “plan for an eventual drawdown” of troops.
Appearing in a confirmation hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee, Mullen, 60, acknowledged that the increase in U.S. forces cannot continue past April 2008 under the military’s current force structure. He also cautioned that Iraqi political reconciliation is not keeping pace with security improvements.

Times: ‘Democrats scrambling to expand eavesdropping’
President Bush is pressuring Democrats in Congress to expand his administration’s authority to eavesdrop on international communications without a warrant and Democratic leaders seem more willing to give him at least part of what he wants, the New York Times reports.

Kenneth Starr’s Law Firm Gives More Money to Clinton (than any other)
July 31 (Bloomberg) — Lawyers at Kirkland & Ellis, the law firm that’s home to Whitewater prosecutor Kenneth Starr and Bush administration official Jay Lefkowitz, have given more to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign than to all of the top Republican candidates combined.
Kirkland, based in Chicago, is one of several corporate law firms that traditionally backed Republicans where lawyers are turning to Democratic candidates. Lawyers say the change is largely due to disenchantment with the Republican Party’s social policies and the war in Iraq.
“The Iraq war has a very significant pull on people, but it’s not just limited to that,” said Kirk Radke, a New York partner at Kirkland who is fundraising for Clinton. “There’s the need for a better posture within the international community.”

The whole WSJ thing is scary. Even though it’s not exactly a bastion of liberalism, they were at least accurate. I certainly won’t be trusting them for business information if this goes through.
I hope a lot of people will see this WSJ buy out as an indication not to trust it anymore. I would hope that people who read that paper are a little more concerned where their news is coming from than Fox viewers. We’ll see.
The probable Foxification of the WSJ could provide an opening for another vendor of financial news smart enough to see the gap and leap into it. Bloomberg Business Journal, perhaps? How ironic would it be if Bloomberg gained audience at Murdoch’s expense? ๐
I don’t know that much about the world of finance, but I doubt that major financiers will put much stock (pardon the pun) in the WSJ’s business coverage if they feel it is tainted with the right-wing stain of their editorial page.
Okay, I have to crow about good service when I get it because it is so rare anymore. I got my domain name at Go Daddy and their tech support has been awesome! Their first language is English so I don’t have to strain to understand what they’re saying. They’re based here in the Phx area and they’ve always helped me fix the problem in a short time. And they were pretty reasonably priced, although, I don’t know how much domain names generally run but if I wasn’t sticker shocked then it’s a pretty good deal.
I’m having fun with the Simpsonizer on the Simpson’s Movie site. I’m gonna see if it will do Nellie :pup: Although I feel dirty having registered myself on a Murdoch thing :crap:
Simpsonize me!
GoDaddy is OK for domain names. Just don’t host with them (remember all the problems we had for a while there? That was them). Also, there was an issue with one of the security sites I frequent. Somebody posted a list of MySpace usernames and passwords that was already going around to an archive area (MySpace people are pretty easy to dupe into giving up their information; relatively stupid, on average). MySpace comlained, and GoDaddy (who wasn’t the host, mind you, just the domain registrar) pulled their registration down without even notifying the site, and they were down for quite a while, until they got a new registrar. I wouldn’t trust them, personally. They also charge extra for things that you can get free elsewhere (for instance, if you want to keep your personal information private on your domain registration, you have to pay extra w/ GoDaddy, whereas with the registrar that partners with Bluehost, it’s free). If you host with GoDaddy, you also have to pay extra for things like log access and other things.
The Simpsonizer wouldn’t recognize Nellie as a face. Despite her big movie star eyebrows!
I just have the basic domain name package and I thought the paying for privacy was weird to but most of my experiences have been good so far.
“I know that I would not take part of a cover up” Rummy, today.
What kind of fuckery? Did you or didn’t you? that’s the question. Not would you or wouldn’t you. :fustrate:
Hey! Fred has taken over the #1 poster spot. He has overthrown Nickirose, finally!
Congratulations, Fred. Many very interesting posts in that number. :yippee:
A lot of amo in those posts too! :paranoid: ๐ I wonder how many cyber rounds Fred has shot off on here?? :rofl2:
Speaking of posts, Murdoch’s NY Post sells for 25 cents and has always lost money. A while ago they tried to raise it to 50 cents but circulation fell and they quickly went back to the original 25. It’s quite a paper, racy gossipy stuff and right wing politics. I’m sure the editorial page is comparable to the WSJ, but the fact that it’s part of the Post makes it less credible.
If Murdoch makes the WSJ a less credible paper, perhaps he’ll also do damage the the credibility of its opinions. One can only hope.
