Kind of a strange Press the Meat today, as Timmy potatohead hosts a “debate” on the future of the Democratic party, between creepy DLC Chairman Harold Ford Jr, and the likewise creepy Markos Moulitsas (sorry, he just gives me the creeps for some reason; I think it’s because he looks so much like that guy Eugene Tooms, from the X-Files, who’d wake up every 30 years to eat human livers, and could squeeze himself up the soil pipe and into your toilet). Then it’s back to the usual stuff – a bunch of flat heads at the round table – with Bloomberg’s Margaret Carlson (who’s got the the hots for some of that Fred Thompson man meat), Time magazine hack Michael Duffy, NBC’s twinkie-ass Republican shill, Chuck Todd, and idiot (but no savant) Byron York, of the National Review.
Over at CBS’s Faze the Nation, it’s the hacktacular, former third-place “Worst Person in the World” award winning Karen “Humpty” Tumulty of Time, David Yepsen of the Des Moines Register (since we’re supposed to give a shit about Iowa, I guess), former crappy staff writer from the WaPost (who fits right in at the ever-incorrect Politico.com), Jim VandeHei, and Mike “Huckleberry” Huckabee, who apparently still thinks he’s running for preznit.
On Fux News Sunday, Weaselface Wallace travels to Iowa to audition as wife number 2 with Mitt and Ann Romney, and then it’s a panel of Republican shills on to tell us why the Democrats suck (as if we needed anybody to tell us that).
This Weak with George Snufalufagus forces us to listen to Sam Bareback, before giving us a little (no pun intended) Dennis Kucinich (apparently, he’s on on so Georgie can ask him why he doesn’t quit already). Then at the roundtable, it’s George :jerk: Will, Fareed “Token” Zakaria, former Pentagon spokesbitch, Torie Clarke and campaign mastermind, Donna Brazile. Then, Leonardo DiCaprio will be on to talk about his environmental documentary “The 11th Hour” (if he doesn’t mention Thom Hartman, Thommy’ll be crushed).
Wolf Blitzer only manages one Democrat on his Late Emission – Andy’s boy, Joe Sestak. Otherwise, it’s scumbag Republican day, with Drunken Duncan Hunter, Transportation Secretary, Mary Peters (let me guess “be vewy, vewy afwaid,” but not so afraid you stop buying shit), and dirtbag representatives from the campaigns of dirtbags, Rudy “9/11 Action Hero” Giuliani, Mitt “Biog Love” Romney, and the man who reminds me of Bruce Willis’ character in “The Sixth Sense” (because he doesn’t know he’s dead yet), St. John McCain. Oh, and Wolfie tosses in Pakistani Ambassador Mahmud Ali Durrani, for good measure (must be Karen Hughes was busy; oh well, I’m sure Durrani’s better looking, anyway). Plus, the usual collection of CNN hacks and shills.
Later, on 60 Minutes, they’ll rerun segments on the kid who escaped from Darfur, Anderson Cooper on the hip-hop scene, and a story about somebody they’re actually calling the “King of Comedy.” Yes, none other than Larry the Cable Guy, who I’ve actually never seen, but I bet he’s no Harland Williams. All that, and Andy Rooney too? It’s just too much goodness for a one-hour show.
Damn, when the hell is football gonna hurry up and get back (and, no, preseason doesn’t count). Enjoy your Sunday, everybody, and if you can’t make it to church today…
The obligatory “First” and PJ you must have the X-Files on DVD for such an arcane connection.
Good morning. :joe: :joe:
Americans are living longer than ever, but not as long as people in 41 other countries.
For decades, the United States has been slipping in international rankings of life expectancy, as other countries improve health care, nutrition and lifestyles.
Countries that surpass the U.S. include Japan and most of Europe, as well as Jordan, Guam and the Cayman Islands

In study after study and in country after country, men report more, often many more, sexual partners than women.
One survey, recently reported by the US government, concluded that men had a median of seven female sex partners. Women had a median of four male sex partners. Another study, by British researchers, stated that men had 12.7 heterosexual partners and women had 6.5.
But there is one problem, mathematicians say. It is logically impossible for heterosexual men to have more partners on average than heterosexual women. Those survey results cannot be correct.

Sue, you’re leaving out all the Repig men who pay $20 to give blowjobs to large black men in restrooms, not to mention the Repig men who give other guys blowjobs while they’re asleep. Add them into the equations, then factor in Jeff Gannon, and the math will balance nicely.
The Republican Party. They blow hard, so you don’t have to.
:rofl2:
Kevin, I believe you have found the answer to the math quandary. 😆
Where once the war in Iraq was defined in conversations with these men by untenable ideas – bringing democracy or defeating al-Qaeda – these days the war in Iraq is defined by different ways of expressing the idea of being weary. It is a theme that is endlessly reiterated as you travel around Iraq. ‘The army is worn out. We are just keeping people in theatre who are exhausted,’ says a soldier working for the US army public affairs office who is supposed to be telling me how well things have been going since the ‘surge’ in Baghdad.

Good Morning :joe:
the funny thing is to see the Kos himself at the YK with wife (a nice hispanic girl who is quiet and sweet) and 2 kids…he is sorta feminine and looks like he must be a teenager, but he has this sweet family…
the better thing about him is that he realizes when its time to step back and take the onus of cult of personality off of the YK, which is now Netroots Nation…and in that he has basically not been a “blogger” himself for a while and is likely moving along to be on TV and more active in the elections, as he did in the last go round, I like him…he seems to be someone who can see what he has and grow. he is the “star” of a certain element of the netroots, but he is pretty self effacing and low key, and he is moving along…
I like that.
The social networking that *is* the DK is so almost AOL chat roomish, at its worst…
I am so happy today…need to get up and get stuff done…but just that we get 3XSammy in the next couple of days and I am counting down to the impossibility of actually getting us all out of here and up to cape cod next Sat…maybe getting things working enough so I have a little time this week…
AND Dell, after another hysterical go-round with this lemon of a laptop that is so beautiful (E1705) but has been so troublesome…HAS to do a system swap.
So, I am probably getting a brand new 17″ laptop…which will probably come with Vista (ugh!) …and be an Inspiron rather than an XPS…but maybe I can sell it.
And all this because they cant make my verizon phone card work in it…they offer verizon and it should work…and they cant figure why it wont work…
so, so , so….I guess they are in a corner…
Now, to find someone to buy the new one…or maybe just give it to Ben or his family.
Id like to replace it with an XPS so as to get the XPS tech support…
Or switch to Toshiba…which got good reviews for their upswing in tech support…
Any suggestions that does not require a switch to Mac will be appreciated…
Did that sex poll above ask the men about any partners regardless of sex?..would seem thats the factor that would make it add up…or that men bullshit about sex alot…
Sicko Jr.
Perhaps men tell more fibs about sex but maybe women are just better at forgetting men, no doubt a mental survival skill.
A quote from Giuliani:
“Freedom is not a concept in which people can do anything they want, be anything they can be. Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do.”

What a freakin’ psycho. That’s not what freedom is at all. Do these assholes think they can change the meaning of words without a fight?? :fu: :fu: :fu: I have no tolerance for these authoritarian fucks.
Guessing most of us don’t revisit the waning hours of the previous day’s page (thank gawd!) so I will reprise this gem from yesterday. This guy is brilliant.
I don’t really get NBC here so it was hard to catch Kos vs. Ford but spooky Moulitsas in what I could see was pretty cool with HomeyKos holding forth well.
A New MM MMKos he was PERFECT! Articulate: he spoke softly and carried a big stick — THE FACTS!
… and without potatoe head it was Fantastic!. I love
Dick Gregory(sp) and his “Round Table”. WOW. Wonderful
He and his show made me smile, and I still am. WOW. :dancers:
Wow Vern, thanks for finding that gem and re posting it. That should be spread far and wide. I may even dust off my ole blog and post it there.
Kos was fantastic…just great. And Ford was…Ford…stupid centrist who wants to position the party but it living in a delusional state. he operates completely from the defensive…and markos has the facts and the people…the numbers that he has really say something.
Im sure this will be up on youtube in a sec…and on Kos, and on crooks and liars and….
Gee, D, I had drifted on because I always want to hear what BoBo Brazile has to say. To borrow a phrase from Bill Walsh referring to his pre-Montana QB (apols to roxie and fred for the football ref), Brazile and Shrum are “just good enough to get you beat”.
So I returned to MtP as best the signal could muster and caught ‘get me another ‘chute’ McCain saying that Bonds should get an * and Imus back on the air (agreed). I wish Stretch Gregory (Dick is the great comedian/activist) would replace Timmeh permanently.
If there were any sense o’ shame these days…
The moment after Darth Cheney said that in 1994 he got an idea 💡
Last year right after the YKos in Vegas, Seder was doing some in-stores for FUBAR and did one in SF at the short-lived Cody’s outlet. Although I am sure he was still tired from the big event, Markos crossed that long bridge or BARTed in afternoon drive traffic (believe me!) to stand with his oldest (maybe 18 months?) off to the side for the entire 90 minutes or so and watch. Sam did make an aside to him once or twice and dragged him in for a second. Other than that, ‘Kos was just hanging out with his kid for a friend. First time I had ever seen him. Very human.

Police: Boot camp girl dragged with van
This must be some of that “christian love” I keep hearing about.
BANQUETE, Texas – Authorities charged the director of a Christian boot camp and an employee with dragging a 15-year-old girl behind a van after she fell behind the group during a morning run.
merv griffin: who knew he was still alive?
vern: i do go & catch up on yesterday’s blog and i have to say (107):
:fu: natalie maines — what a moron, especially after what the self-rightious idiots had put her through: “”but it’s against the law”. yeah, well in the new george bush america, so is what you said. and you could theoretically lose all your property for opposing king george.
and double :fu: dr drew. gee this is a guy i’d like to have as my doctor…”but what you have isn’t really cancer.”…(despite the fact that you’ve had radiatiion, chemotherapy and spinal fusians for a condition you’ve had since you were a toddler.) nice, empathetic bedside manner doc — Roast In Hell, m-f-er.
jeez, louise, what’s wrong with these people?
Romney-The dog did it! He climbed up there to the top of the car on his own! :pup: Good doggie! Woof, Woof!
okay, i have to drag myself downstairs and get ready to go to today’s ENOUGH! protest/get together.

Vernon. RE 16 Thanks for the memories. 😥 Yes. But what has anyone OF GOVERNMENT done throughout the decades? … this started with RayGun (Fred’s saying) “secret raids” down “south” — now look, we have evil bush and his evil coherts and “regular” folk are join together to fail again :dancers: , as the numbers for bush (barely) rise.

roxie, that Natalie appearance on PI w/ Maher was in 1999 before the English incident. I remember seeing it and it shows worse than it reads. I was shocked because her daddy Lloyd was pretty involved in the Texas music scene with people like Joe Ely, Terry Allen, Butch Hancock, Guy Clark, Radney Foster and on and on so I am guessing the woman has seen a little herb in her time. Lloyd probably did some Joe Ely shows opening for the Clash. Also she was on the show with known tokers Bill and Woody Harrelson. I am surprised those guys can remember anything, much less run a prominent talk show or be an activist from all of the :bong: and the :boobs:
A little folk from Merv (one very wealthy dude) for D6x3. No fiddle. Just…
Where is Sunny Jim, anyway? I’ve got Ewan’s kid with a fiddle doing a cowboy song.
Those pesky hackers.
Not that anybody cares, but this is pretty good news.
From today’s NY Times:
Still, the rituals of the campaign trail are not always a natural fit for Mr. Giuliani. For instance, he does not do the soft and cuddly thing very well.
Jill Martin, a teacher from Le Mars, Iowa, her child in her arms, was becoming emotional as she told the candidate how she could not afford the rate increases on her health insurance.
“What are you going to do to make health care possible for people like me and my children?†Ms. Martin asked, her voice cracking.
Mr. Giuliani extended one arm in her direction, not to offer support but to beckon her to be seated.
He did not utter any of the soothing words that can come so easily to a Clinton or a Romney.
“I don’t know,†Mr. Giuliani said brusquely. “I don’t know the answer in your particular circumstance how you are going to afford it.â€
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/12/us/politics/12giuliani.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
Of course it’s not an inability to be “soft and cuddly,” it’s an inability to empathize.
“Petty and vindictive” is the assessment of one of Giuliani’s most reliable foils, Stephen DiBrienza, a former City Councilman from Brooklyn who in 1998 was on the receiving end of a memorable act of mayoral pique. DiBrienza was chairman of the Council’s General Welfare Committee, which oversaw the city’s social- and human-services programs, principal targets of Giuliani’s reforms. One of the councilman’s abiding concerns was the warehousing of homeless people in huge city shelters, some of which held as many as a thousand beds. In December, 1998, DiBrienza sponsored a bill to limit the number of beds at city facilities to two hundred, and to require that social services be made available at the shelters.
Giuliani vehemently opposed the measure, arguing that it would require the city to close down its seven largest shelters. The Council passed the legislation, and he vetoed it. He said that if he was forced to close the big shelters he would have to build new ones—and he would put them in the districts of the chief proponents of the bill. The Council overrode the veto by a substantial margin. The Mayor called DiBrienza a “limousine liberal” and a “hypocrite,” and the administration announced plans to open a homeless shelter in a neighborhood in DiBrienza’s district. An eviction notice was sent to a state-run psychiatric clinic housed in a city-owned building, with the explanation that a homeless shelter was coming in. In addition to the clinic, which tended to five hundred patients a week, the building contained a senior-citizen center and a nonprofit children’s center.
“Think about it,” DiBrienza says now. “Here’s a guy who would go to that length, because I beat him on passing a law that requires smaller-bed shelters. Because we would not blink, he would throw kids, seniors, and the mentally ill out into the street. I mean, could I have written a better script to expose the fact of what he was?”
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2007/8/12/15647/9239
The proposed homeless shelter was eventually defeated.
