I was kinda hoping Olbermann would come out with a “special comment” on NBC last night. Something about Bush and Cheney being disgraceful liars who ought to be thrown in prison. But I reckon that would’ve been a bit much for “we the people” to handle all at once. Still, it would be nice if Countdown got at least a weekly network airing.
Oh well, it was a good Sunday night kinda thing – and even some football to watch (preseason, but it’ll do until SU gets killed by Washington next Friday). There was a good hit on a ref, which is always fun to see (bounced right up, you gotta give him credit; he got leveled by a 315 pound, very large fella. I bet that hurts today). Not everybody in the house is exactly a football fan, though. And, as we all know, football is only for stupid people. Fortunately, I’ve never had any difficulty admitting I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed. I’m just a happy idiot, trying to enjoy myself once in a while in my struggle for the legal tender.
Now, if I can just find out who the fuck was blowing off fireworks last night, I’ll be all set. The dog does not like fireworks (or boom-booms of any kind). Poor dog was nervous and scared the whole night. Bastids. Makes you want to go climb up in a bell tower somewhere.
Fats’ house in NOLa is looking good. He’ll be returning soon.
Comment by vernon — August 26, 2007 @ 9:01 pm
So he’ll be walkin’ to New Orleans? 😀
I gots to find me a good Fats compilation. Good stuff.
Forgot to mention that I might have a religion-in-the-workplace issue on the table today. I’ll try to fill everyone in later as to the outcome. It could resolve itself easily or become very ugly, I have no clue either way since no one wanted to address the issue after I raised it on Friday.
And I watched Big Love for the first time last night (just in time to catch the season frickin’ finale), which isn’t helping either. Man, I hope I still have a job when I go to bed tonight.
Good news for tomorrow’s MoveOn event, though. They had projected 25 people to attend at Bill Young’s office in downtown St Pete, and as of this morning there are 60 signups. Solidarnosc!

Disguised Canadian police upset peaceful protesters
A video recently posted on YouTube documents a strange occurrence at a recent protest during the recent Montebello Summit in Québec, Canada, which has activists questioning the motives of police, and suspicious that the orders came down from the Prime Minister’s office.
Masked men were spotted near the riot police, who held back despite one man holding a large rock, himself and two others appearing to attempt an incitement to riot. The three were confronted by other attendees and eventually handcuffed and taken away.

CRAP! I forgot KO was on last night. :rant1:
I watched KO last night. He did fine, but the last segment was a preview of the football game. As football holds no fascination for me, I was not paying attention when Olbermann introduced the two guys with whom he was going to discuss the game.
One of the guys started by saying “Rush is the worst person in the world? The whole world?” His commenting partner added,”It’s just for the day.” Then KO said something and hey went on to talk football.
I was glad Olberman chose Rush lLintabll and Billo for his worst persons list.
Weird :omg:
Well, KO is firstly the sports guy. I think that I was just thankful that he and Costas did not go on a Barry Bonds rant. And didn’t Collingsworth make some crack about KO making rush WPITW?
andy, I was a little let down and my NBC reception is very poor but it looks like most of the show is here.
I think Stewart and Colbert are on vacation this week as when Katrina happened. What a blown opportunity!
It’s been more than two years since Jeff Gannon (birth name: James Dale Guckert) resigned from Talon News, a conservative Web site for which Gannon served as White House correspondent. At the time, some theorized that Gannon was liberally granted press access in order to ask softball questions of White House officials. Others were taken aback by nude pictures of Gannon that appeared on male escort service Web pages. A few questioned his lack of journalism education and experience.
Well, Gannon’s back, and he has his claws out.
“I’m not going away,†Gannon tells Yeas & Nays. “I’m here. These people created me, and now they’re going to have to deal with me.â€

Oh, yeah, also remember this, examiner.com and related publications are crap so their blogs must be a credit to the exercise. I think they are owned and manipulated by moon/scaife wannabees out of Colorado.
Roxie, here’s the link again. I hope it works.

Roxie, once you click on the link you’ll see a headline “Yeas and Nays” under which it says “more from the blog” click on that and you’ll get to Gannon.
I don’t think Rove had this much trouble connecting with him.
Try #15, ides of blog for working link.
From Pelosi onm Gannon:
The nominee must also pledge to cooperate with ongoing congressional oversight into the conduct of the White House in the politicization of federal law enforcement. Hearings on the nominee will provide Congress with another opportunity to examine the new, flawed FISA law and will aid in our efforts to improve it.
From Reid:
“Alberto Gonzales was never the right man for this job. He lacked independence, he lacked judgment, and he lacked the spine to say no to Karl Rove. This resignation is not the end of the story. Congress must get to the bottom of this mess and follow the facts where they lead, into the White House.”

How long do you think it will take Bush to issue pardons for crimes committed and about to be committed?

Stewart and Colbert are both on vacation this week and next. At least Gonzo will still be in office when they return, so the jokes won’t sound quite so stale.
Roxie, once you click on the link you’ll see a headline “Yeas and Nays†under which it says “more from the blog†click on that and you’ll get to Gannon.
I don’t think Rove had this much trouble connecting with him.

Yeah, but Rove was paying him a lot more than you are, Sue!
:rofl2:
Is this one damn dead week? Lots of media and gubment on vacation along with a lot of the nation, esp. thems w/ kids getting ready to go back to school.
Good time to dump an AG and hope a little vick goes a long way with Owen Wilson in the back stretch. KO had better be on tonight.
Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho) was arrested in June at a Minnesota airport by a plainclothes police officer investigating lewd conduct complaints in a men’s public restroom, according to an arrest report obtained by Roll Call Monday afternoon.
Craig’s arrest occurred just after noon on June 11 at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. On Aug. 8, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct in the Hennepin County District Court. He paid more than $500 in fines and fees, and a 10-day jail sentence was stayed. He also was given one year of probation with the court that began on Aug. 8.
A spokesman for Craig described the incident as a “he said/he said misunderstanding,†and said the office would release a fuller statement later Monday afternoon.
After he was arrested, Craig, who is married, was taken to the Airport Police Operations Center to be interviewed about the lewd conduct incident, according to the police report. At one point during the interview, Craig handed the plainclothes sergeant who arrested him a business card that identified him as a U.S. Senator and said, “What do you think about that?†the report states.

What is it with these perverted Republicans?
These Republicans apparently hate themselves as much as we hate them. It must be very difficult to spend your day railing against gays, and spend your evenings doing lewd things in public bathrooms.
I mean, a public bathroom just doesn’t seem like a romantic venue to me.
Now, a locker room, that’s different.
The worst part is, I’ve been to that airport, and have visited at least one or two of its restrooms. And now I find out I was risking harassment by perverted Republican congress critters. Oh, the horror. What will we tell the children?
That was you? :omg: :jesus:
Well the sub-prime mess has hit home, one of my neighbors got axed from her job, along with about half the employees of her mortgage company.
Here’s more on the Craig incident:
According to the incident report, Sgt. Dave Karsnia was working as a plainclothes officer on June 11 investigating civilian complaints regarding sexual activity in the men’s public restroom in which Craig was arrested.
Airport police previously had made numerous arrests in the men’s restroom of the Northstar Crossing in the Lindbergh Terminal in connection with sexual activity.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2007/08/27/gop-senator-enters-guilty_n_62015.html
It seems that Sen. Craig went to a place known for that lewdness stuff.
Oh, that sucks Andy. I don’t mind the thieving scumbags losing money, but it always seems it’s the regular people who get screwed.
Yeah, the scumbags have been at least partially bailed out already, at least she’ll get unemployment for a while and she’s only in her 20’s so it should be easier to find another job. That’s the theory anyway.
#33 — As I recall, that was the year of the Orange Alert at Christmas Time and nightmare from hell trip from Minneapolis to Syracuse (NY) via the hellpit of O’Hare (no UFOs to save us on that day — only machine guns in the terminal held by big burly guys). :tommygun:
Well, I’m obviously in the Dog House (and Siggy is here with me :pup: while PJ is in his cave 😐 ) because I chose not to view last nights football fest. I don’t get football, I never got it, and will probably never get it and really choose not to subject myself to it, but that doesn’t mean I think people who like football are stupid or “less than” or anything like that. PJ doesn’t “get” most of the metaphysical stuff I’m interested in & has been pretty clear on his opinion that it basically has no “scientific” validation, so probably has little to no value in the grand scheme of human evolution or human existance. That’s fine & I can live with that opinion and still preserve my integrity and accept that not everyone sees things as I do, that doesn’t mean that I think those people are stupid or lower than I am or whatever, they are just in a different place. .
I kind of feel the same way about gladiator sports like football. I don’t understand the competitiveness, the need to destroy the other guy, the smash bash stuff … I know it takes a lot of skill, intelligence and physical prowess to be good at something like football … and the SU football players visit the pediatric ward at the hospital where I work on a regular basis, which the kids love … or some of them anyway … The players are OK people for the most part, but many of them have big fat egos and football is just another Big Business exploiting people. It’s complicated.
I just don’t understand the “hero” aspect of sports figures — to me, a hero is someone more like Ghandi or Jesus or Hiawatha or Martin Luther King or anyone who put their life on the line for peace & justice, not money … but I am from an alien planet. I just don’t get it. That’s all. PJ has not said 2 words to me today & his comments on the Olbermann thread inaccurately express my feelings about football. I’m with Sue P. It holds no interest for me, but if you want to watch it, go ahead. I just won’t be there.
I’ve sat through many a game without wanting to be there and I just won’t do it any more. My life is too short at this point to spend doing things I don’t want to be doing …. guess I’d better get serious about finding a different line of work!!!
So, I’m sorry, PJ. I still  you, but I will never “get” football or want to sit through watching the glare, blare & yapping. Too much testosterone for me.
:slap:
Oh, and if anyone hasn’t been there yet, you need to go here thenhere

pj, does this mean the dog has problems with Madden?
OK, the second one didn’t work. I’m a moron about these things & that’s why we all need PJ. Please go to the Do-It-Yourself Impeachment kit & send it to everyone you know. We all need to support Dennis in this effort. It’s one of those Karma things.

#41 — While I was in a different room not watching football, the bombs exploding (at least that’s what it sounded like) prompted me to call the police (the non emergency # since I couldn’t actually see any flames or people screaming in the streets) to inquire what the hell was going on and when the hell it was going to end. I was told that there was a fireworks display @ LeMoyne College, just a few blocks from us. I swear it sounded like it was 50 feet away in the Mobil Car Wash behind our backyard. The wind was blowing it all in our direction.
Now, what the heck does THAT mean?? :omg:
What is it that makes people love blowing shit up? Is it another testosterone poisoning thing? How can it be a good thing if it terrifies :pup: ies & other living creatures?
