In honor of Kevin (and the restof our heathen brethren), I’d like to start this day with a prayer. It’s been a while, and I’m trying to do this from memory, so please forgive me (or, should I say, “forgiveth me”) if I don’t get it quite right.
:priest: And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, “O Lord, bless this Thy hand grenade that with it Thou mayest blow Thine enemies to tiny bits, in Thy mercy.” And the Lord didst grin and the people didst feasteth upon the lambs and sloths and carp and anchovies and orangutans and breakfast cereals, and fruit bats and… (I shall skippeth a bit). And the Lord spake, saying, “First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou counteth to three: no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceedeth to three. Five is right out! Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.” Amen. :jesus:
Oh, hell, better yet, just watch this:
Thanks for the support,.everybody. The clip was great too. I could have used the Holy Hand Grenade after the meeting on Monday. ๐

You’re not going far enough. You need to say, “I’m not gay, and I never have been gay.” As opposed to, say, Ted Haggart, who is not gay, but used to be gay, but he prayed himself out of it.
I was thinking you could volunteer to lead the prayer at the next “fun” work event. You could start out with, “oh, all powerful Satan, hear our prayer….”

Retailer Toys ‘R’ Us Inc has voluntarily recalled 27,000 units of Imaginirium wooden coloring cases that were made in China, due to violation of lead paint standard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.
The agency said the printed ink on the outer packaging of the wood case contained lead. Also, some of the black watercolor paint contained excessive levels of lead.
There were no injuries reported, the agency added.

A Rigged Report on U.S. Voting?
By Tova Andrea Wang
Thursday, August 30, 2007; Page A21
After the 2000 Florida election debacle, Congress established a body called the Election Assistance Commission to improve voting and democracy in this country
snip
I was paired with a Republican co-author. To further remove any taint of partisanship, my co-author and I convened a bipartisan working group to help us. We spent a year doing research and consulting with leaders in the field to produce a draft report. What happened next seems inexplicable. After submitting the draft in July 2006, we were barred by the commission’s staff from having anything more to do with it.
snip
after sitting on the draft for six months, the EAC publicly released a report — citing it as based on work by me and my co-author — that completely stood our own work on its head.
Consider the title. Whereas the commission is mandated by law to study voter fraud and intimidation, this new report was titled simply “Election Crimes” and excluded a wide range of serious offenses that harm the system and suppress voting but are not currently crimes under the U.S. criminal code.
snip
We also raised questions about the way the Justice Department was handling complaints of fraud and intimidation. The commission excised all references to the department that might be construed as critical — or that Justice officials later took issue with. And all of the suggestions we received from political scientists and other scholars regarding methodologies for a more scientifically rigorous look at these problems were omitted.
Once these “revisions” to the report were revealed this spring, there was an uproar among voting rights advocates. I was eager to set the record straight, but the commission would not allow me to speak about the report because of a broad “confidentiality provision” in my contract. The EAC finally released me from the gag order this summer, and, under pressure from Congress, it has publicly released 40,000 pages of revealing documents and e-mail.

As for the world, the world isn’t the problem. The megalomaniacs who occupy the white house have decided that they know better than anyone how to accomplish whatever it is they are trying to accomplish. Perhaps it is concentrating wealth in the hands of their friends and creating the golden day of serfdom for the rest of us.
They cannot listen. They must surround themselves with yes men. The preznit is protected from seeing descent. They protect their world image by shaping the image they look at.

Iraq has failed to meet all but three of 18 congressionally mandated benchmarks for political and military progress, according to a draft of a Government Accountability Office report. The document questions whether some aspects of a more positive assessment by the White House last month adequately reflected the range of views the GAO found within the administration.
Snip
The person who provided the draft report to The Post said it was being conveyed from a government official who feared that its pessimistic conclusions would be watered down in the final version — as some officials have said happened with security judgments in this month’s National Intelligence Estimate on Iraq. Congress requested the GAO report, along with an assessment of the Iraqi security forces by an independent commission headed by retired Marine Gen. James L. Jones, to provide a basis for comparison with the administration’s scorecard. The Jones report is also scheduled for delivery next week.

Alright, so, I have to put a lot of thought into what kind of equipment I want to get so that I can listen to music or radio in the car and on jobsites. There are too many choices anymore and I hate it! Do I get satellite? And if I get satellite, do I choose XM or Sirius?? And what about them merging? Will that make any equipment I get obsolete? And which equipment do I get? I thought I wanted an ipod but now I’m not so sure. Now I’m thinking an mp3 player might be better until Sirius and XM decide to finally get a room together. I must be able to listen to NovaM and music. I can listen to NovaM on the radio here but , unfortunaetly their signal is weak in many areas. Is there such a thing as a high powered antennae for AM radio?? Any advice is appreciated, thankyou.
I don’t think the XM/Sirius merger will happen. Not because they don’t want it, but because the government won’t let them.
For me, XM got much better reception, because the satellites are geostationary. I had to put an expensive antenna on my roof for Sirius. May not be a problem in your area. They also have portable units for both that will allow you to record shit and take it with you, as well as play mp3’s. Personally, I prefer the music stations on XM.
Personally, I wouldn’t get an iPod. I’d get a nice, cheap, 1 or 2 or whatever gig mp3 player with an FM tuner in it. But that’s ‘cuz I have no desire to use iTunes.
I’m near a computer all day, so I just download the previous day’s stuff every morning to my flash drive, and I’m good to go. I have a little RCA Lyra with an SD card slot, too, so I can download to the card, and then stick the card in my player, or my GPS in the car, and listen that way.
Just my 2 cents.

Texas governor spares death row inmate’s life
AFP
Published: Thursday August 30, 2007
Texas Governor Rick Perry on Thursday spared the life of a death row inmate who had never killed anyone, commuting his sentence hours before an execution that had drawn international attention.
Perry’s decision came after the pardons and parole board voted 6-1 to recommend that he commute Kenneth Foster’s sentence to life in prison.
“After carefully considering the facts of this case, along with the recommendations from the Board of Pardons and Paroles, I believe the right and just decision is to commute Foster’s sentence from the death penalty to life imprisonment,” Perry said in a statement.
Sue P., that is something I have not heard. Good News, 8) :

Good Evening, Blogren :pope: :priest:
Got this from one of my nurse buddies & thought I’d pass it along.
Five Surgeons are discussing the types of people they like to operate on. The first surgeon says: ‘I like to see accountants on my operating table, because when you open them up, everything inside is numbered.’
The second responds: ‘Yeah, but you should try electricians! Everything inside them is color coded.’ The third surgeon says: ‘No, I really think librarians are the best; everything inside them is in alphabetical order.’
The fourth surgeon chimes in: ‘You know, I like construction workers…those guys always understand when you have a few parts left over.’
But the fifth surgeon shut’s them all up when he observed: ‘You ‘re all wrong.. Politicians are the easiest to operate on. There’s no guts, no heart, no balls, no brains and no spine. Plus, the head and the ass are interchangeable

Kristapea,
Get a satellite radio that has an MP3 player built in. XM is the way to go because it is bigger and will likely maintain in the merger. XM also has very good reception for talk channels as they reduce the fidelity to improve signal capture.
For AM radios, there is the C.Crane company that specializes in functional good reception radios.
Thanks, PJ and Webhubble. I have turned against itunes. It was fun for a little while but I’d rather go and buy cd’s from my friends who are struggling with their stores. NovaM is on both XM and Sirius it looks like so that’s good. I didn’t know there was a satellite radio player with an mp3 player. That may be the way to go.
RG, too bad that description of the pols is so accurate.
PJ, I had seen that Sandra O’Connor speech. If only RG’s joke were not so spot on we might think that there is hope.
I see the only guy they could dredge up to defend Sen. Craig, is sleazy Tom Delay. Perfect!!!
Is Luntz on vacation? They sure are using variations of the words ‘come out’ a lot. Actually, I just finished watching that tweety/delay interview again and there are a lot of amusing word choices.
