Damn, back to work today. That sucks, especially after such a nice weekend. So, dubya went to visit Iraq yesterday. Well, isn’t that nice. Not that our guys and gals (and the Iraqis) weren’t thrilled to see him, I’m sure, but it might have been nice if he’d gone elsewhere. He might have gone to, oh, I dunno, maybe a Pennsylvania coal mine, to sing the praises of the men (and women, I reckon) who make a living breathing in coal dust while busting their asses thousands of feet below ground, listening for the rumble presaging a murderous cave-in. He could have told UMW workers how valuable they are to our society, and how he was creating a new mine safety initiative to make mines in this country as safe as possible. And he could have apologized for the way his administration has made mines less safe, and put all of their lives at risk, vowing to atone for his greedy policies.
Or he could have gone to a US factory somewhere, and expressed his appreciation to all working Americans, who are reportedly the most productive workers in the world. He could have said that the least this country owes its workers is universal healthcare, which he would make his top priority for the balance of his administration.
Maybe he could have met with workers from the construction and building trades in the gulf region, vowing to put them to work rebuilding New Orleans, whose citizens have waited far too long to return home, while the Federal government has handed over billions of dollars to Bush’s corrupt cronies.
There are a lot of places George Bush could have gone yesterday. Instead, he went to Iraq for an empty photo-op, to reiterate the fact that he doesn’t give a shit how many Iraqis and Americans have to suffer and die; he’ll see every man, woman, and child dead or mutilated before he’ll give up on his disgraceful failed occupation.
George, why not just stay out of the United States? Resign now, and go on permanent vacation someplace (and take Cheney with you). You know this job has been way too much work, and it really hasn’t been much fun for you, now that the shine is off your codpiece. Just go off wherever it is that rich, spoiled brats go, make lots of money, and leave us all alone, while there’s still a chance we can undo everything you and your people have done.
Nice one PJ.

Good morning. :joe: :joe:
Sean, my mother has alzheimers. The people who take care of her make sure that they exercise her memory and reasoning everyday. It helps, I guess, but it slowly gets worse. Awful.
The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently issued a flier to combat myths about the flu vaccine. It recited various commonly held views and labeled them either “true” or “false.” Among those identified as false were statements such as “The side effects are worse than the flu” and “Only older people need flu vaccine.”
When University of Michigan social psychologist Norbert Schwarz had volunteers read the CDC flier, however, he found that within 30 minutes, older people misremembered 28 percent of the false statements as true. Three days later, they remembered 40 percent of the myths as factual.
Younger people did better at first, but three days later they made as many errors as older people did after 30 minutes. Most troubling was that people of all ages now felt that the source of their false beliefs was the respected CDC.

This phenomenon may help explain why large numbers of Americans incorrectly think that Saddam Hussein was directly involved in planning the Sept 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, and that most of the Sept. 11 hijackers were Iraqi. While these beliefs likely arose because Bush administration officials have repeatedly tried to connect Iraq with Sept. 11, the experiments suggest that intelligence reports and other efforts to debunk this account may in fact help keep it alive.
Similarly, many in the Arab world are convinced that the destruction of the World Trade Center on Sept. 11 was not the work of Arab terrorists but was a controlled demolition; that 4,000 Jews working there had been warned to stay home that day; and that the Pentagon was struck by a missile rather than a plane.
snip
A report last year by the Pew Global Attitudes Project, however, found that the number of Muslims worldwide who do not believe that Arabs carried out the Sept. 11 attacks is soaring — to 59 percent of Turks and Egyptians, 65 percent of Indonesians, 53 percent of Jordanians, 41 percent of Pakistanis and even 56 percent of British Muslims.

According to Jeffrey Toobinรขโฌโขs new book on the Supreme Court, Justice David Souter nearly resigned in the wake of Bush v. Gore, so distraught was he over the decision that effectively ended the Florida recount and installed George W. Bush as president.
In รขโฌลThe Nine,รขโฌย which goes on sale Sept. 18, Toobin writes that while the other justices tried to put the case behind them, รขโฌลDavid Souter alone was shattered,รขโฌย at times weeping when he thought of the case. รขโฌลFor many months, it was not at all clear whether he would remain as a justice,รขโฌย Toobin continues. รขโฌลThat the Court met in a city he loathed made the decision even harder. At the urging of a handful of close friends, he decided to stay on, but his attitude toward the Court was never the same.รขโฌย

Bremer Refuses To Be Thrown under The Bus
To help his sagging poll numbers, George Bush has recently gone on the offensive, a “domestic surge” if you will. As part of this new strategy, he’s tried to lay some of the blame on the Iraq failings on subordinates. Specifically, he’s said that he did not want to disband the Iraqi Army immediately after invading, and it happened without his knowledge (as far as a defense goes, Bush claiming limited knowledge does have some credibility, no?). He was, in essence, laying the blame at the feet of Paul Bremer.
Bremer is having none of it. He produced letters to the NY Times showing he told Bush in advance. Wonder if any reporter will have the guts to ask Bush about this obvious discrepancy:
Sen. Larry Craig, who originally resigned from his Senate post after his arrest in a Minnesota airport sex sting, is reconsidering his decision, his spokesman said Tuesday evening.
“We’re still preparing as if Senator Craig will resign Sept. 30, but the outcome of the legal case in Minnesota and the ethics investigation will have an impact on whether we’re able to stay in the fight – and stay in the Senate,” said Sidney Smith, Craig’s Idaho spokesman.

I’d forgotten all about this.
I was just listening to Bush at the APEC Summit. He was asked whether he would raise the issue of hacking the Pentagon computers with the Chinese. He said, “I may.” And then rambled on about providing safeguards against hacking blah blah.
Then as he talked about out special relationship with China, and said that we want China to change from a saving society to a consuming society. He explained that then Chinese do not provide enough of a safety net and that WE WANT CHINA TO PROVIDE MORE OF A SAFETY NET FOR THEIR PEOPLE, so that they will spend their money instead of saving for a rainy day.
This from the SOB who won’t expand child healthcare, rebuild New Orleans, fund healthcare for vets. The idiot who wanted private investment accounts to replace social security. :fustrate:

Hi, All,
I’m coming down from spending the last two days with my daughter, her husband and my beautiful little granddaughter, Violet, who is just the cutest little baby in the whole world. :yippee: They are going back to Minneapolis tomorrow & I’m praying all their bridge crossings will be safe :sdavid: :pent: :cres: :yinyang: :jesus: :pope: :priest:
In reading through the blog tonight, what sticks in my craw is sue p’s #5 comment about the flu vaccine & the CDC’s promotion of it. If ever there was “faith based” medicine, this is it. :tinfoil: Last year I got an email from the hospital with a propaganda piece from the CDC about flu vaccine & how important it is & a required form that had a check box for “yes I will be vaccinated” and “no I will not” . I have never had the flu vaccine, will never willingly submit to it, and have never had the flu and don’t plan on getting it. I respectfully said NO, YOU ASSHOLES, and stated that I don’t trust the “science” behind the flu vaccine, as the great majority of my colleagues. When the health care workers who are supposed to be “role Models” don’t want the fucking vaccine, what should that tell the general public? WAKE UP :sheep: LE!!
Oil of Oregano & colloidal silver & keeping your immune system strong through whatever means one has, particulary avoidance of highly processed and genetically modified foods, will keep you healthy. The fucking faith based guesswork vaccine that is produced every year to combat the “flu” is total bullshit as far as I am concerned, but I am not a doctor so I clearly have no credibility or authority. I would never discourage anyone from getting such inoculation if they truly believe in it — because if you believe in something you have a far better chance of it working.
If you don’t believe in it, there’s far less effectiveness. I can’t remember at this moment just what the percentage of healthcare workers is that refuse this vaccine. It’s pretty overwhelming. The CDC is really on the warpath to get healthcare workers onboard by getting this vaccine and I’m sure that my hospital is not the only one that is mandated to “survey” employees that opt out of the vaccine. I had to answer 6 or so essay questions to explain why I refused the flu vaccine after testifying that I read the CDC propaganda. God, I hate this shit. I totally hate this country sometimes — this is another one of those “little things” that takes control over our own bodies away from ourselves and gives it over to “authorities” that know far better than we do what we need to do to stay “healthy”.
I also got the chills once again this weekend when my father, who grew up in Nazi Germany & was conscripted to the Dark Side during WWII by virtue of being a German kid in East Prussia, was talking about a neighbor he knew as a kid who was sent to one of Hitler’s “re-education” camps. All I could think of was Abu Gharib. He said the man came back to the neighborhood but he never said another word about anything and he was never the same. I don’t understand how my 85-year-old father can’t put two and two together. He just doesn’t want to or can’t see we are in deja vu all over again. I wish it were funny.
I hated growing up in the 1950s being considered as a Child of Nazis in the postwar era. It took me many years to understand what was going on in the NYC schools I attended and I wonder how many other German-heritage children of immigrants in that era experienced the abuse by teachers who took out their hate of Nazis on little kids who had absolutely no clue. I didn’t get it then, I don’t get it now, and I will never tolerate witnessing abuse of that kind toward children of any of the “terrorists”. I hate to think about all the little Muslim kids in this country who are now experiencing the same thing — WTF kind of goddam country is this anyway?? :smack:
I was about 14 years old when I read Elie Wiesel’s “Night”. I don’t remember where I found it — probably at the library. It was published in 1960 and I was 14 in 1962. I remember feeling completely devastated by it, but I never, ever, ever talked to my parents about it back then because I knew they did not want to know about it or deal with it. They were unable to see beyond the boundaries of their own limited experience and did not want to go any further. Is this where mainstream America is now? ๐ฅ
OK, I’m sorry. I’m creeping myself out with all this stuff and I didn’t mean to get so heavy into my own family dynamics. Being an only child with aging parents who have always been oblivious has truly warped my psyche & my spirit.
Living in these most interesting but most volatile times just totally blows me away in so many ways :tommygun:
