So, I got my fancy new glasses with the “progressive” lenses yesterday. Right off, I’d say they pretty much suck. Apparently, you have to look directly at what you want to see. I understood about the up and down part, but had no clue you couldn’t look left or right, either. That sucks. One of my best abilities is being able to look at stuff out of the sides of my eyes. Now, if I wanna check out a hot babe, I’ll have to look directly at her. This isn’t cool. I’m nothing if not discrete. Oh well, supposedly you get used to it. We’ll see.
At least it’s freakin’ Friday.

Any women want to respond to this comment? Because I’m guessing none of you are buying what he’s selling. They ALWAYS know. RG, any thoughts?

We did the cubicle shuffle at work yesterday. My new location sucks, as there are other people all around me and my supervisor is within walking distance.
Good news is that Housekeeping vacuumed under my desk and got most of the cookie crumbs left behind by the previous occupant, although I reached down this morning and pulled out of the carpet a half-eaten Hershey’s kiss that looked about six months old.

How the hell she didn’t have critters back here, I have no clue.

From: “MoveOn.org Political Action”
Subject: Help to send a message to Congress: I will not be quiet
Hi,
The U.S. Senate just told us to sit down and be quiet. They passed a resolution condemning MoveOn.org and it has one purpose: To intimidate all of us who care about ending this war. To send a message that anyone who speaks unpleasant truths about this war will pay. To make everyone–especially politicians–think twice before they accuse the administration of lying.
We can’t let that happen. I just signed a statement telling Congress that they won’t intimidate me, and I’m going to keep speaking out until they force an exit strategy out of this awful war. Can you join me?
http://pol.moveon.org/fightback/?r_by=-7977889-_l.SHN&rc=confemail
Thanks!
No, not the younger ones, anyway. At my age, I’ve become invisible to them. They used to at least look at me before they said “yuck,” but now they don’t even notice I’m there.
Seriously, though. These glasses suck. They say it’ll take a couple of weeks to get fully used to them. I have my doubts.

:pirate: :tap: A!I!V! Don’t have much to say except getting ready for more massive calls nationwide and doing Post Cards … Feinstein’s is finally realizing they have to respond, for what it is worth, since she just voted against MoveOn. Oh I forgot, I have to Work, also. :smack:

Well, maybe not all the way back. But I’m not dead, yet. Think I’ll go for a walk…
Actually, I keep loosing big chunks of my life to D.C. traffic. We are Number 2, after all. I loose 1-2 hours a day in my 6-mile commute to and from work. Then the 12-hour days kick my butt resulting in days like today – comp time paybacks! Three-day weekends for everyone!
As for progressive lenses, I have had them about six years. See the bobblehead. Be the bobblehead. I am still not used to it.
I think all Moveon will do by attacking the dems is morf the Dems that are corporatist horses asses into showing them selves as DINOs that you can’t get rid of for two to five years . at which time you will get another preselected horses ass to replace them.
They might even change parties then what do you do ??
MoveOn was really good in finding what appeared to be a semi more or less progressive candidate to run against LIEberman.. :yuck: What was the margin LIEberman :yuck: won by.. :yuck: ??? Didn’t the MoneOn candidate turn into a horses ass after the fact anyhow ??
Remember the $ 8.95 solution :gate: :omg: :jason: :jason: :fist:
PJ, The peripheral vision distortions are difficult to get used to, but being able to see what’s in front of you may compensate. I think bi-focals are much more difficult. With them you can’t look down and they do nothing to help read bulletin boards and dash boards.
The progressive lenses work like a camera. You have to look at what you want to see.
The Denver IDIOT MORON , horses ass aka Jay Marvin thinks Wesley Clark is a great guest.. :tommygun: :tommygun:
Roxie, I agree we have to do something about the Moveon ad. It’s been what the rethugs have been talking about for weeks because they’re got nothing else and the stupid Dems fell right for it. The ad itself was NOT anti-military, just anti-lies.
On Faux News this morning some pig was saying that the ad backfired ’cause he had looked at the polls and the ad had bought Bush another six months. He never did say which polls or what they actually said, of course.
He also said that this is what will drive the middle class from the Dems, which of course is their hope. I’m glad none of the candidates voted for it.
How do we give these twits backbone?
I guess we have to start yelling, again. :yuck:
Only those that are IDIOT MORONS.. woops.. I forgot the ratio of IDIOT MORONS to the rest of us is twenty to one. :yuck: :crap: :fustrate: :fustrate: :paranoid: :paranoid:
Once Republicans started circulating an amendment that would blast MoveOn for “impugning the honor and integrity of General Petraeus and all the members of the U.S. Armed Forces,” Democrats wrote their own version that criticized the MoveOn ad but also denounced Republicans for attacking the military record of Kerry in 2004 through the Swift boat ads.
Between the two measures, nearly every member of the Senate had repudiated MoveOn, including Democratic presidential contender Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) and Obama, who both voted for the Democratic version that did not include MoveOn’s name but said there had been an “unwarranted personal attack” on Petraeus.

Has anyone seen the two versions of this ridiculous waste of time? I’ll have to search after I do some more pressing stuff.
Something truly important that the Rethugs hope will get lost in the Moveon BS:
PRESIDENT BUSH’S renewed vow yesterday to veto an expansion of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program was unfortunate. Mr. Bush has been threatening a veto for months now. But with the popular and important program set to expire at the end of the month, and congressional negotiators having retreated from the more aggressive and expensive House measure, Mr. Bush had an opportunity also to offer compromise. Instead, at a guns-blazing news conference, he accused Democrats of “putting health coverage for poor children at risk so they can score political points in Washington” and said the Democrats’ plans “would move millions of American children who now have private health insurance into government-run health care.”

US resumes Blackwater convoys in Iraq
“American convoys under the protection of “Blackwater USA resumed on Friday, four days after the U.S. Embassy suspended all land travel by its diplomats and other civilian officials in response to the alleged killing of civilians by the security firm.
A top aide to Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki had earlier conceded it may prove difficult for the Iraqi government to follow through on threats to expel Blackwater and other Western security contractors.
The aide, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation into Sunday’s shooting was ongoing, said a way out of the Blackwater crisis could be the payment of compensation to victims’ families and an agreement from all sides on a new set of rules for their operations in Iraq.
U.S. Embassy spokeswoman Mirembe Nantongo said the decision to resume land travel outside the heavily fortified Green Zone was made after consultations with the Iraqi governments. She said the convoys will be limited to essential missions.”

And one wonders why they don’t stand up for themselves.. One has to wonder what “consultations with the Iraqi governments” was really about ?? :yuck: :crap:
Republicans reacted angrily yesterday to President Bush’s promise to veto a bill that would renew and expand the popular State Children’s Health Insurance Program, raising the likelihood of significant GOP defections when the package comes to a vote next week.

The vicious little dinosaur, velociraptor, was a feathered fiend, according to scientists who found evidence of quills on the well-known meat-eater’s forearm.
In research published yesterday, paleontologists said a forearm bone of velociraptor found in Mongolia’s desolate Gobi desert retained structures, or quill knobs, where a series of feathers were anchored to the bone with ligaments.

Analysts at the Government Accountability Office have voted to join a union, a first at the 86-year-old agency.
The analysts voted 897 to 445 to be represented by the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers. About 74 percent of eligible employees voted in the election.
The push for unionization began about a year ago after several analysts complained about the fairness of a 2005-06 restructuring of compensation practices at the GAO. As the campaign evolved, other analysts said they thought a union would give them a stronger voice on workplace issues, including the way managers conduct job-performance evaluations.

The thugs apparently have replaced more than 120,000 civil service employees in first and second tier management positions in federal agencies with people they have selected to prove government doesn’t work that will be protected by the civil service labor agreements from being fired after the thugs exit the scene. Their influence will cause even more of the federal employees below them to leave so the actions of the GAO employees may be an act to be sure some part of the government stays coherent. In this case an election is of no avail ( if it ever is) :reaper: :reaper:
re 28 Just my Yes, Steph is showing how to be a superficial Libra, proper. boring yet droll — they have their periodic moments.
Yet another hypocritical Rethug exposed:
In his day-to-day life John David Roy Atchison appeared to be your typical family man: a successful federal prosecutor and girls basketball coach who accompanied his wife and three children to youth sporting events on weekends.
Online, though, Atchison, 53, was living a secret life as “daddy” who wanted to fulfill fantasies of changing diapers and taking care of little girls.
The two worlds collided this week when Atchison was arrested at an airport in Detroit, where prosecutors say he traveled from his home in Pensacola, Fla., intending on having sex with a 5-year-old girl.
http://rawstory.com//news/2007/Alleged_pedophile_prosecutors_sought_young_girls_0920.html
At this point, whenever I hear some chest thumping Repug talk about morality( which in their book means sex) I assume that person is talking about himself.
Fred …re 30 you are correct sir. GORE, Only, for me, except me (and i am a misanthrope who no longer believes in society and — without a billion $ election purse) yet if I were to think, I wouldn’t vote for any of them — but My/Our Earth cannot take another republican or even the chance.. ARREST! IMPEACH! VIGILANCE!
Our whole government structure is an excellent example of how absolute power corrupts absolutely yet the IDIOT MORONS would rater watch baseball and football on TeeVee than do something about it. :reaper: :reaper:

WASHINGTON (AP) — The cherished dinner hour void of telemarketers could vanish next year for millions of people when phone numbers begin dropping off the national Do Not Call list.
Numbers placed on the registry, begun in June 2003, are valid for five years. For the millions of people who signed onto the list in its early days, their numbers will automatically drop off beginning next June if they do not enroll again.
People can register their home and cell phone numbers or file complaints at http://www.donotcall.gov or by calling 1-888-382-1222

Lincoln Karim has a book of Palemale and Lola photos, which he sells. The daily photos are free and he is very generous about allowing folks to use them.
I bought a book from him which got waylaid at the post office (which I found out later). I wrote to Lincoln and he sent me another book. Soon after the post office found the first book and I then had 2 books. I wrote to Lincoln and told him I wanted to pay for the second book. He refused to take the money.

Columbia won’t cancel Ahmadinejad speech
NEW YORK — Columbia University said it oes not plan to call off a speech by Iran’s president despite pressure from critics including the City Council speaker, who said the Ivy League school was providing a forum for “hate-mongering vitriol.”
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is traveling to New York to address the United Nations’ General Assembly. He was to appear Monday at a question-and-answer session with Columbia faculty and students as part of the school’s World Leaders Forum.

For first time, Iran directly confronts Israel on alleged nuclear arms
Israel accused Iran of lying, while Tehran challenged the international community to send inspectors to probe of its arch-rival’s nuclear capabilities, in an unusually bitter and rare direct confrontation on Friday.
—
The exchange came after chief Iranian delegate Ali Asghar Soltanieh – like Arab delegates before him – said that Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert had acknowledged earlier this year that his country possessed nuclear weapons – something that Israel says Olmert never did.
Soltanieh also criticized the “continuous silence of the U.S. … vis a vis the atrocities, aggression, bloodshed and violations of over 30 resolutions of the United Nations.”
—
“Those who call for the elimination of Israel have no right to criticize Israeli policies aimed at defending Israel’s very existence,” said Michaeli.

HELP! OFC WHO WAS A WHITSLEBLOWER IN IRAQ KILLED!
Submitted by WiccanDruid on Fri, 09/21/2007 – 8:59pm.
WE HAVE TO GET THESE SOLDIERS OUT NOW!!! WHO CAN I BLOODY CALL ON A FRIDAY!
He was one of the 7 or 8(?) who wrote that article I think NYT. I am shaking so sorry have not looked up the past article … you will know, when I say this:
1 soldier shot by sniper will live …
2 soldiers killed by “a car accident” in Iraq Green Zone
1 just was killed…i just heard
we MUST get the rest of them NOW!
I can call nationwide — what can be done NOW! I am going to look up article and write NYT or whomever (that’s what happens at times).
I thought of getting all last week but did not respond in time because I got involved in Different ACTIONS. ::CRY:: and one of those soldier’s is murdered today!
THEY ALL WILL BE KILLED IF WE DO NOT GET THEM AWAY FROM THAT GREEN ZONE IRAQ — N O W! ENOUGH RHETORIC! We HAVE to do something! They do not deserve to die, especially to be murdered!
These people are purposely MURDERED because they spoke out in. I am a REV. Druid I can do reverend/minister type things, BUT IT IS THE WEEKEND…..
ZEEK , FROM OTHER SITE FOUND AND SUGGESTED THIS MIGHT ME A FRIDAY “DUMP”.

Federal prosecutors are investigating whether employees of the private security firm Blackwater USA illegally smuggled into Iraq weapons that may have been sold on the black market and ended up in the hands of a U.S.-designated terrorist organization, officials said Friday

Druid, here are the names ofthe 7 soldiers who wrote te oped and a link to it:

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/19/opinion/19jayamaha.html?_r=1&hp&oref=slogin
Druid, here is the story about the soldier who was killed. He was not one of the 7 writers of that oped:
Earlier this month, two of seven soldiers who had penned an Op-Ed for The New York Times that expressed skepticism about the war in Iraq were killed in a vehicle accident there. Now another soldier whose writings on the war, but with a more pro-war view, were widely circulated has died in another non-combat related incident.
He is Sgt. Edmund “Eddie” Jeffers. He died on Wednesday in Taqqadum of injuries suffered from an unspecified accident that is under investigation, the Army said.

Vernon, Why did they release Bonds? Do you know?
Now, I heard that he was 1 of the 7 … and that is how reported …
But I got the article, (I also had copy, but it was at a scary iGoogle site)
but I see the names … then this gives me time to react. One would think “news” would get it right. My computer takes forever, so Jeffers is just another.
Then time:

Thank You Vernon. …A!I!V!
Just time to move along and rebuild. It was expected once he broke the record.
