Yeah, I know, Columbus was an asshole. A scam artist and religious zealot willing to kill as many people as it took in order to bring about the rapture. He’d have made a good Republican. But, you gotta give him one thing. He somehow got credit for “discovering” a place that not only had other Europeans already been there first, but there happened to be millions of human beings already living there at the time. Plus, the dumb fuck thought he was in Asia. And now he gets a holiday named after him. Go figure. But, what the hell. A day off is a day off.
For you who do no longer have AAR premium and need the podcast, the
QuakeGreen 960 offers Rachel Maddow podcasts so if you do not get or miss Marc Maron subbing today and tomorrow you can get it here at some point after the fact. One of the problems with running Gore again is that their already exits a play book for the Reich wing talkers to use .. It will be a grand slime throwing contest.

Good thing that will never happen if Hillary is the nominee. Pleeeeeze. :barf:
The Repigs will slime whoever is nominated. If somehow Kucinich got the nomination, they would smear him as a communist dwarf with a sex-crazed Amazon wife and a plan to outlaw eating meat. It’s what they do.
RE-ELECT GORE!!!
And on behalf of those of us who don’t have today off, fuck Columbus.
:fu:
Re-Elect Gore…I Just Will Not Stop :bee: lievingA!I!V! TeaTime :nana: KEVIN…”the blog says …be nice To Kevin :tap: “
Fact is that the Gore 2000 play book has been run. It might play to the diminishing base but it is now old news to anyone else. Besides, this is a different Gore. He is free of the 2000 election baggage. Of course, he was the one who allowed choosing LIEberman and running away from Bill Clinton happen which in the end cost him the 2000 election probably even more than Nader and the FL vote count. He is the best hope but Hillary is rapidly sealing the deal.
I think that the anti-Hillary ongoing play book is also playing to the increasingly diminishing base. I think her negs will actually go down in time.
I agree for running away from Bill cost some multi votes. I always say that that the DLC “forced” Joe Lie upon us:
GORE Might Be Free…..but Young and Old are begging for the ONLY PRESIDENT to Please Run. I feel we need Strength of A Leader to some degree. Go to MySpace and on some there is Gore info and new Video from YouTube (I think) and look at the young and old CALLING (damn near begging) for GORE To Run…..or try going to DRAFTGORE08 (I think (I should know but I will not look further until I finish a project and a painting. :smack: ) :tap:
…..and I do not have any LINKS :dancers: A!I!V! :yippee: :nana:

I think Columbus was the first successful capitalist ( lier ,cheat , manipulator) to visit the new world .. The Europeans who came here before him obviously didn’t succeed ,, (Perhaps they would have succeeded if they had self propelled snow throwers and natural gas) and the following horde of Spaniards totally decimated and looted the indigenous cultures in Central and South America… He was kind of like RayGun was for us.. Some one needs to dig up both Columbus and RayGun and have the Chinese launch their remains into the sun. :reaper: :reaper:
I know of hardly anyone who wants to vote for Hillary ( rethugs, libertarians and dems a like)

Most of these polls are part of the Orwellian society you live in… The preselected must be presented as the winner so the IDIOT MORONS wanting to go with the flow vote for them. :tap: :tap:
The neocon base is what is decreasing.. Most real Republicans see the neocons as being worse than democraps in physical responsibility.( remember republicans are cheap) ..
The religious Reich found that they got a lot of rhetoric but no legislation passed.
A great number from both parties have declared themselves Independents and foolishly think that means something if they don’t send in that $25.00 check. ( the Insurance company CEO will gladly send in his sixteen for $ 2500 each)
The ( real) democraps want to withdraw from Iraq because its wrong the rethugs and libertarians want to withdraw because its becoming to expensive. None of the preselected ones have said a word about the why behind 911 and will continue down the same road until the rest of the word decides enough is enough at which time they will have to build a 10 foot real lock fence with concertina wire on the top around the SBR with big signs saying RADIOACTIVE AREA DO NOT ENTER UNTIL the year 12,000.. but.. since all that would be left that anyone might want is a lot of tall ( radioactive) grass no one will care.. :reaper: :reaper: And after all the 5 billion cubic yards of vaporized IDIOT MORONS and their stuff circling the world at 50,000 feet stopped global warming. :yuck: :crap: :paranoid:

I think a new paradigm is in Order. Someone should immediately tell Nuclear Plants that to use until “to warning level” and have another plan ready to work. Start working on solutions when we regain office. A!I!V!
When I taught my own class I always had the kids “discover” the class next door, as a way of showing them how America was discovered. But, Columbus never did discover North America. He discovered Hispanola, which was south of us. I think it’s on the island where Haiti is.
The kids had a lot of fun telling the class next door that they had been “discovered.” I hope it got the point across.
Come on Vernon, I thought WE were “debating” :slap: :dancers: A!I! …trying to warm up the area, for ya, Fred.
:tommygun:
Our temp here is a :hot: ….. Wait For It …….WFI…….. 40% :rofl2: :rofl2: 😉
To make the class lesson more realistic you should have had your kids steal all the other classes books and kidnap their teacher. :reaper: :reaper:
Yeah, fuck Columbus, I don’t have the day off either! :fu:
I have to do the garbage :omg: and work ….. :tap: alright I get to work at home now , yet I was in office surroundings, most my life. :dancers: A!I!V! One-Eye-Jack call again and TEA :yippee: … Does One Forget That I’M “108yrs”…IM :rofl2:

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I was taught in school that everybody thought the world was flat (and this was way before Tom Friedman), except for that visionary, good old Christopher Columbus. Apparently, that all came from Washington Irving, and was never true. Pretty much nobody thought the world was flat in the 15th century, least of all seafaring folks.
Next thing you know, they’ll be telling me there was no Rip Van Winkle – or Headless Horseman (on a side note, I’ve been to Washington Irving’s grave in Tarrytown).
There’s so much of what we were taught in school that turns out to be complete bullshit. To quote Paul Simon, “when I think back on all the crap I learned in high school, it’s a wonder I can think at all.”
:slap: oh todays not canadian thxgiving just the day the canadians are taking off because of it………
Social studies is mostly lies we tell to American kids. I hated the subject as a student and even more as a teacher. It is taught as immutable truth and there is no place for thinking and discovery. That, I’m sure, is the reason the kids hate it too.
Six years after the September 11 attacks in the United States, the “war on terror” is failing and instead fueling an increase in support for extremist Islamist movements, a British think-tank said on Monday.
A report by the Oxford Research Group (ORG) said a “fundamental re-think is required” if the global terrorist network is to be rendered ineffective.

You also gotta wonder why somebody who wasn’t even an American gets a Federal holiday. I mean, I guess there’s Jesus and all, but if you listen to the Mormons, Jesus at least emigrated to North America. I’d rather see a First Nations Day here in the US, to say thanks for everything we screwed the native people out of.
And if Italians need a holiday, why not honor an American Italian, like Joseph Barbera or Joe Dimaggio. While we’re at it, how St. Patrick’s Day isn’t a Federal holiday, fer chrissakes? He was a goddamn Saint!
When schoolchildren turn to the chapter on Christopher Columbus’s humble origins as the son of a wool-weaver in Genoa, they are not generally told that he might instead have been born out of wedlock to a Portuguese prince. Or that he might have been a Jew whose parents converted to escape the Spanish Inquisition. Or a rebel in the medieval kingdom of Catalonia.
Yet five centuries after he opened the door to the New World, revisionist biographers of Columbus have found a new hope for vindication: DNA.
In 2004, a Spanish geneticist, Dr. Jose A. Lorente, extracted genetic material from a cache of Columbus’s bones in Seville to settle a dispute about where he was buried. Ever since, he has been beset by amateur historians, government officials, and self-styled Columbus relatives of multiple nationalities clamoring for a genetic retelling of the textbook tale.

With a nationwide farmworker shortage threatening to leave unharvested fruits and vegetables rotting in fields, the Bush administration has begun quietly rewriting federal regulations to eliminate barriers that restrict how foreign laborers legally can be brought into the country.
The urgent effort, underway at the US departments of Homeland Security, State, and Labor, is meant to rescue farm owners caught in a vise between a complex process to hire legal guest-workers and stepped-up enforcement that has reduced the number of undocumented planters, pickers, and even middle managers crossing the border.

The task of getting dangerous products out of consumers’ reach is perhaps the most pressing challenge the Consumer Product Safety Commission faces in this era of surging recalls, particularly of products from China. It is an essential part of the agency’s mission, because premarket testing is not required for consumer products in the United States.
Nancy A. Nord, the commission’s acting chairwoman, said the agency was proud of its record of moving rapidly and forcefully to pull hazardous products off the market.
“The point is to get the recall out there, to get the consumer informed of what’s happening and then try to get the product out of consumers’ hands,†Ms. Nord said in testimony to a House panel in September. “I think a recall process works very well.â€
But the Stand ’n Seal case is a powerful illustration of the commission’s failure to fully live up to its mission.

No, D6, no more debating here for me. I only drop sweeping statements (that are actually opinions) occasionally supported by manipulation of facts or maybe nothing and then run along.
I am practicing the new art of political miscourse. Deal with it. 😉 :rofl2:
Some new Maron and Seder info at RIPCoco is cross-pollinated at Brilliant at Breakfast
There have been a number of articles recently that portray President Bush as someone who strayed from the path of true conservatism. Republicans, these articles say, need to return to their roots.
Well, I don’t know what true conservatism is, but while doing research for my forthcoming book I spent a lot of time studying the history of the American political movement that calls itself conservatism — and Mr. Bush hasn’t strayed from the path at all. On the contrary, he’s the very model of a modern movement conservative.

I think this is the Krugman piece about which Sean wrote. Sean, with what did you take issue?
Blackwater: “Newly Created Thug Casteâ€
What still evades the framing of this debate, though, is that the violent lawlessness perpetrated against civilians in Iraq by this newly created thug caste is a taste of what is in store for us at home — unless Congress confronts the President’s and Prince’s plans to bring Blackwater increasingly to a neighborhood near you. It is remarkable that the hearings focus on what Blackwater is doing in Iraq — but not on what Blackwater plans to and is legally able to do here in the US when the President determines there is a `public emergency’ that requires the restoration of `public order’ — a power that he arrogated more completely with the 2007 Defense Authorization Act.
Scandal brewing at Oral Roberts
Richard Roberts is accused of illegal involvement in a local political campaign and lavish spending at donors’ expense, including numerous home remodeling projects, use of the university jet for his daughter’s senior trip to the Bahamas, and a red Mercedes convertible and a Lexus SUV for his wife, Lindsay.
She is accused of dropping tens of thousands of dollars on clothes, awarding nonacademic scholarships to friends of her children and sending scores of text messages on university-issued cell phones to people described in the lawsuit as “underage males.”
I just never get tired if this and it solidifies my belief that religion is utterly corrupt.
I was just listening to Ring of Fire, not having gotten a chance to do so this weekend. Sam Seder is the co-host.
There is an interview, very scary, with Mikey Weinstein who runs the organization, Military Religious Freedom and is talking about the incredible incursion of the religious right and their coercion of airforce folks.

Hey Fred!
Isn’t Brian actually a real person?? That is he is not one of Maron’s characters . ❓ ❓
aaA, what was that virus and where did it come from? Can Brian get a virus if he is not hooked up to the internets?
fred, excited about the Rockies? I want a World Series in the snow.
Brian, real guy.
I’m pretty sure he’s a real person, I heard him call in to Miller one day.
Brian is a real person. Doesn’t he call Stephanie Miller sometimes?
This is very weird. It’s pitch dark at 7:15 at night, it’s October but the crickets are in full force, and here in northern NJ, it’s still 85 degrees out. And Marc Maron is on the radio. It’s sort of like I’m in a weird out-of-time time warp.
Fred is not excited about the Rockies but a lot of other people are.. I wonder what these people do for a living that they can go to a late evening baseball game on a week night ? :paranoid:
Hey Jill, same thing here, and the computer’s adding about 10 degrees.
Right Wing Launches Baseless Smear Campaign Against 12 Year Old Recipient Of SCHIP
The smear attack against Graeme has taken firm hold in the right-wing blogosphere. The National Review, Michelle Malkin, Wizbang, Powerline, and the Weekly Standard blog have all launched assaults on the Frost family. The story is slowly working its way into traditional media outlets as well.
Brian’s real, he calls Steph sometimes.
See, Marc couldn’t stop watching Zeitgeist either. Everyone I’ve given that movie to says they can’t stop watching it. But he’s right, what the hell are you gonna do with that info except pass it along.
Maybe we need to send roxie and sblue up to Everett to check Brian out Michelle Malkin style.
There was a correspondent on the last hour’s news on the AAR stream who sounded like Svetlana (Iris Bahr).
I am just trying to get Roxie , besides :billcat: :pup: :cat: , to open a Bloody HP Computer Box :omg: ❗ A!I!V! … and SBlueHeron is :knit: ing up a storm
