I was gonna listen to Marc on Rachel live last night, but then I decided that would be a little too much like stalking. So, I’ll opt to listen to the podcast today some time. I did catch the S&M show at work yesterday, though. Despite the technical difficulties, I thought it was a great show. It’s a shame these guys can’t have a regular show that I can watch and/or listen to on a regular basis, w/o having to do it at work. It’s one thing to listen to a podcast at work while pretending you’re paying attention to whatever it is you’re supposed to be doing, but sitting there and watching video kind of blows the illusion entirely. Oh well, whattya gonna do?
So we seem to have found the magic formula for generating more posts: two Maron broadcasts and an all-day discussion about beer.

Plus my supervisor is on vacation for the next week! Something else to check off the list. All I need now is sex, money, and Bush and Cheney out of office and imprisoned for war crimes.

Maron disturbed the strict regimentation of the Maddow household. Even Kent Jones was knocked off his rhythm for a moment. But Lawton recovered beautifully, allowing the show to make a perfect landing.
i was only able to catch the last hour of the show last night, but i can imagine it takes a while to get use to Marc after working with Rachel. Lawton was awesome!! :jesus:

Increasing crops to make ethanol risks water supplies
WASHINGTON — When it comes to solving the fossil fuel crisis, it seems like every silver lining comes accompanied by a dark cloud.
As attention turns more and more toward using corn and other products to produce ethanol for fuel, experts warn that increased production of these crops could pose a threat to the nation’s water supplies.
Both water quality and the availability of water could be threatened by sharply increasing crops such as corn, said Jerald L. Schnoor, professor of environmental engineering and co-director of the Center for Global and Regional Environmental Research at the University of Iowa.
Schnoor is chairman of a National Research Council panel that studied the potential impact of increased use of biofuels on water supplies. The committee report was released today.

Verizon, AT&T broadband policies allow for censorship of unfriendly opinions
Companies insist they don’t censor customers
Buried deep within the dense, legalistic agreements two of the country’s largest telecommunications carriers force subscribers to accept are provisions that could allow the companies to cut access to subscribers who criticize them online.
In a Wednesday column, Lazarus writes that the companies say they can terminate Internet access “for any behavior that AT&T or Verizon believes might harm its ‘name or reputation,’ or even the reputation of its business partners.”

The sound and synch takes a while to kick in. The whole thing was f***ed up and is short. They say they are rolling out in two weeks :rofl2:. The tech snafu is worth watching. Some of the time Maron is enjoying it and other times, not so much. He should just keep on talking.
Oh please guys, don’t get down on maron at this point! Druid 666 is correct when he says: for me รขโฌลthe lagรขโฌย is the bloody commercials and anything boring, like the repeat of a zillion times the same news stories. That’s not Marc’s fault!! We don’t want anyone, like Mark Green or heaven forbid, Maron himself to read negative comments, please!!!!! :slap:
I haven’t finished listening to Maron from Monday, but i did hear a little of Tuesday. One of the last thing he said was in response to a lament about this being that last night. He said, don’t worry, we’ll show up someplace. Perhaps he’s thinking about doing more radio. That would be nice.
This year started very easily, with me working only 2 days a week. But, all good things come to an end and starting tomorrow I’ll be back to my usual 4 day schedule.
Preparing for all this and taking up the slack for injured hubby, has left little time for much else. And, tomorrow, I have to attend a long, boring and absolutely useless meeting.
Is there any other kind? If so, I’ve never been to one.
Sue P, I thought that “dreadful day” would come, where you get to :slap: :pirate: for a piece of paper for the children; however, I didn’t want to constantly be the nay sayer :reaper: ๐ … ๐ A!I!V!

Some meetings are long, boring and useless but others are long, boring useless and infuriating. Tomorrow’s will be the former, so I will try not to complain. Most importantly I will not forget to bring th crossword puzzle.
The schools are being reformed, as usual. Schools are always being reformed. But there is one thing that is never reformed: the two qualifications of every reformer. The most important is that he/she has never taught a class. This alone qualifies Bush and our mayor, Bloomberg. The second is that you have not been in the presence of a child for at least 20 years.
Thus, in NYC, we have “accountable talk.” In this vision, two, 5 year old kindergarteners, listen to a story and then turn to each other and discuss the book. If your only contact with a 5 year old has been in a crowded elevator you might imagine these kids “discussing a book.” But once imagined it becomes the job of the teacher to make it happen, and since they can’t change the nature of a child they get disgusted and quit.
50% of all new teachers quit within the first five years.
Many people thought I belonged in reform school.
Even in the lower cost Colorado economy most entry level teachers find it hard to pay their student loans and their rent and still eat three meals a day.. One can understand the turn over but around here there is little else to turn too. Most of the other jobs are in retail and at McD’s. and they pay even less. :reaper: :reaper:
la, who was being hard on Maron? I just skimmed through the blog and I don’t see it. All I commented on was the tech problems being a mess, not the Unshaven. They know it already. Maron should have just kept on talking while Seder was futzing around but I don’t think he was sure he was on or off unless he was looking at his e-mail. Other than that they were great. It was fun watching MM make his bemused faces :nana: while Sammy was trying to fix things.
Also great was how Maron started gathering a little ensemble around him for the Maddow show. He seems to miss collaborating. Maybe Don was the stalker.
Our weekly meeting is kind of like going to a congressional hearing where both you and management find out for the first time things that should have been known for days. It can be boring, entertaining, incite panic (which works both ways) and they usually feed you.
I love to see the look on the production managers face when I present some data that shows something critical must be taken down for maintenance. (he got a report but seldom reads them… but… hey we have a meeting each week)
The higher up management doesn’t comprehend that once some peace of equipment is headed down hill that trying to make the monthly quota with it before it is taken out of service just makes a bunch of out of spec parts.
All these Harvard business school types understand is how to manipulate and intimidate the U of Denver business school types. :reaper: :reaper:

But Steinbrenner overplayed his hand. Giuliani got roundly booed at Yankee Stadium and this will play out on the campaign trail.
http://www.firedoglake.com/2007/10/10/yankee-fans-hate-rudy/

The way the Yankees were playing Monday night, Rudy would have been smart to beg Steinbrenner to order the camera crew NOT to put his face on the big screen. But of course, Rudy is not all that smart.
I was flipping stations that night between the game, KO and How I Met Your Mother (it’s a funny show. Really!), so I missed the actual moment in time. Caught it during KO’s replay last night, though.
As an Indians fan since the age of ten, and as someone who grew up watching my beloved Tribe get their asses handed to them by the Yankees just about every season, believe me when I tell you that I am LOVING EVERY FUCKING MINUTE OF THIS.
:rofl2:
The only part I feel bad about is Torre. He’s a good man and an excellent manager who has eaten Steinbrenner’s shit for too long anyway. He’ll have his pick of managing and/or broadcasting jobs if the idiot George cuts him loose.
Between Steinbrenner and Chimpy, do you think any parent will ever agian name their newborn son George? Kinda like how you don’t see a lot of guys named Adolf in Germany these days. ๐
Sitting out here waiting for A-Rod to fill the Barroid void.
Really, I don’t know if I have ever been to a game where an announced pol usually a mayor did not get booed. I’ve seen it for DiFi, Frank Jordan, Willie Brown… Maybe Art Agnos was not booed after the 1989 EQ.

Fred-32 on Ed Schultz
This survey is pure rubbish. Ed is not tied for #7 in the survey, he is tied for 12th. When people are tied for places ahead of you, they take places away so you drop down. There were 5 ties ahead of Fat Headie.
But as I understand it this Talkers magazine is a pure vanity project. It probably makes all the wingnut talkers proud that they can fit in 27 people in the top 10 !!!
Hey mommie, mommie look at me, I got an A++++ super-duper on my test.
These radio carnies are all Clowns, trying to fit 27 people in a Clown car is a funny bit. They should round them all up and take a photo op of the Clowns driving off a cliff in a packed VW.
Family under fire: Rush and Co. hit on healthcare
But while the Frosts were helping a bipartisan majority in Congress sell a plan to expand the program, they were not prepared for comments such as this one, posted over the weekend on the conservative Web site Redstate:
“If federal funds were required [they] could die for all I care. Let the parents get second jobs, let their state foot the bill or let them seek help from private charities. … I would hire a team of PIs and find out exactly how much their parents made and where they spent every nickel. Then I’d do everything possible to destroy their lives with that info.”
Rush is just so goddamn manly.
I forgot, Hey gang!!
In one of the most important speeches in A Thousand Clowns, Murray explains to Sandra Markowitz that it is a grand thing to not quite know who one is.
It’s just that there’s all these Sandras running around who you never met before, and it’s confusing at first, fantastic, like a Chinese fire drill. But god damn, isn’t it great to find out how many Sandras there are? Like those little cars in the circus, this tiny red car comes out and putters around, suddenly its doors open and out come a thousand clowns, whooping and hollering and raising hell.
Great play and movie!
Aren’t these the same loons who called Dailykos a hate site and swooned over the Moveon ad re Gen. Betrayus, What sick bastards, they are.
Olbermann and Maddow talk about the right’s inhumanity over at the Hillbilly report.
What a great way to judge the historical popularity of a head of state or movement! NO ONE names their kid Ghengis Kahn! And after “G.W. Bush”, one of the most common names in America will become as popular as the afore mentioned! :nana:
My friends’ son was born on Election Day 2000 and they named him George. It just happened to be the name they had chosen unfortunately.
For the longest time I tried to call the boy Chad to see if it would stick.
Thanks, all.
