I have no comment at this time, for fear of the person I want to comment on coming back here and looking over my shoulder. Maybe later today. Time is tight this week.
I have no comment either at this time. Listened to a little bit of Bey and Riley on WWRL.

Yet Cauldron {of the Mountains} :cat: is on my lap and almost like Charles Shultz , I could use that excuse (i.e. ,,, not to stand for hours since his pup on his lap). Besides, I want to see the last part of the night to day.

Morning folks!
Morning folks…
Watching the last half or so of the web thing. It’s fucking smoother than nbc’s player. And it’s 11 kinds of awesome to see Maron and Seder chatting. :dancers:
Oh, and look up Green 960 on iTunes. Better sound quality than AAR. And free.
Holy Crap, KB24! How are you?
Maron/Seder show was torturous technically here but the content was tremendous. Maron was firing at the blogosphere and credibility and relevance. Hope some folks were paying attention.
I would be interested if anyone else was watching how consistent your audio and video was.
Maron in for Randi tomorrow (Halloween)!!!!!!!
My video was okay; audio needed constant adjustment with
Maron too loud (and broken up) and Sam too soft. But
good content today.
Colette,
Did he say that Randi sub thing on the vidcast because I did not here that at all? The end of the thing totally broke up on me and I missed most of the Sears story. Both times the subject has come up it has gone glitchy on me but did I hear them say Seder was taking over the AAR website? :omg:
Didn’t get to catch Unshaven today. Hopefully I can catch the replay at some point (though, for some reason, it never seems as good when you’re not watching it live). Another reason to win the lottery and retire, I guess.
gPhone’s coming….
Doing alright. Emotional roller-coaster of a summer and it’s continuing into the fall. And I’ve got to finish a paper in the next 6 hours. Actually 5… since I’ve got to figure out how to print it without the power cord for my printer. Hmmmm
Here’s a book for Maron.
Vernon,
Yes, he did say the Randi thing at the end of the vidcast. Sam remarked that he’d been asked to do it and had turned it down
(prompting a sour look from Maron). Maron said it would be
a wild and crazy show.
Seder did say he was taking over the AAR website but did not
elaborate.
The Sears story was that Maron got a good deal on a new appliance (installing it himself) but didn’t feel that Sears was really standing behind their product with customer service and an exchange when Marc found a dent. Sam however said that Sears exchanged his lawn tractor when it had problems, even picking it up at no charge. He said Sears was good to him (prompting another sour look from Maron both because Sam had a “tractor” of his own and because Sears loves Seder and not, apparently, Maron). It was funny.
Bomb Iran, majority of Americans says in new poll
Despite President Bush’s perpetually abysmal approval ratings, his increasingly hostile rhetoric against Iran has drummed up enough fear of a “nuclear holocost” or a World War III that a majority of Americans are in favor of a US strike against the country aimed a curtailing its apparent nuclear ambitions, a new poll shows.
The Zogby International survey shows 52 percent of Americans would support a strike on Iran, while 53 percent expect President Bush to launch such an attack before the end of his second term. Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton is voters’ No. 1 choice to deal with Iran, with 21 percent saying they would like to see her take on Tehran from the White House. Republican Rudy Giuliani was voters’ second choice, with 15 percent.
Just 29 percent of Americans think the US should not attack Iran, with one in five people unsure about military action. Of those who would support a strike, 28 percent believe military action should wait until the next president is in office, while 23 percent want to see Bush let lose US missiles against Iran.
. . .
“It is utterly stunning that, after the great difficulties we have clearly faced in Iraq (a situation far from finished, by the way), that an absolute majority would favor a strike on Iran at this time,” writes Dr. Steven Taylor at PoliBlog. “Even if we assume that the die-hard 25%-30% who still approve of the way the President is doing his job also are in favor of such a strike, where do the other 27%-22% come from to get the pro-strike total to 52%?”

The IDIOT MORONS have spoken :reaper: :reaper:
Thanks, Colette. Good reporting.
I will be interested in seeing how Marc does for Randi. It was interesting seeing how the Maddow crowd reacted to him a few weeks ago. A lot of folks don’t take to Marc, at least on the AAR blogs. I like to suspect that they are AAR interns trying to tear him down. However, if they are asking him to sub and giving the website over to Seder, maybe they are beginning to wake up at AAR.
PG, glad to see your still hacking away at it. I am sure I have a power chord somewhere around here. Let us know when you resume your radio career.
G’Day Sunshine Jim and And Painting Girl ( 😉 ). 8) .. and The Rest (of Gang) Tea :joe: Cheers. :fist: A!I!V! How You Remind Me … Nickelback

Why do we need a stronger consumer safety agency? Surely China doesn’t need any oversight. What’s a little lead paint among tots?
My impression of the Maddow bloggers when she was on in the morning time slot was that they were a bunch of DNC ( aka NITWIT) types who didn’t particularly care for people who deviated to far from the center… lets not demonize the thugs to much or we will lose sponsors. :jerk: s :yuck: :crap: :paranoid: :paranoid:
I’m shocked that Cheney would patronize a place like this.
Fred, dear Fred. I believe I am one DNC(ish)
:slap: :growl: .. :tap: ….. :pirate: A!I!V! :dancers:
One of the arguments that the IDIOT MORONS put forward is that the reason the government doesn’t govern is because of all the professional bureaucrats in government agencies who are on vacation( either for real or figuratively) half the time..
The problem is that the administration in power puts IDIOT MORON appointees in management positions where they void all that goes on below them so the “real” employees find they can continue to get paid only as long as they assume a “I don’t give a s* attitude or they quit.. The Reich has always put forth the idea that they left because the government doesn’t pay very well ..That has never been true except in maybe the higher up management positions. believe it or not there are people out there who get there jollies from succeeding at what they do as apposed to the number of significant figures on the pay line on there payroll check.
I think that one can conclude that its broken, its getting more broken and that getting politically active is going to fix it is A bunch of BS. :crap: :yuck: :paranoid:
Go to a Unitarian church sometime… I have never looked but can hypothesize that there is an inverted five pointed star on the floor of their chancel. :reaper: :reaper:
This is pretty freakin’ cool.
Turbines are fuel guzzlers and super capacitors are terrible from an energy density standpoint ( amp hrs per cubic inch)
The UP had gas turbine electric locomotives in the days when JP5 was 10 cents a gallon.. When the Arabs embargoed the oil in 1975 they all went to the scrap heap. :reaper: :reaper:
Vote with your 30-06
:gate: :omg: :jason: :jason: :fist: Vigilance committees :sheep: le vigilance committees.
Go to DC and have a long conversation with your senator at 2am then see how they vote . :tommygun: :tommygun:
Thats the only kind of politically active that it going to work .. your shoes full of water yet :sheep: le ??
I think the point was that it only runs for a few seconds to recharge the batteries. The supercapcitor batteries charge almost instantly, and have a long charge life.
Turbines are like your furnace they have to be spun up to get the forward compressor running before you can ignite the fuel then there is a self contained explosion as it fires off that probably consumes 40% of the fuel it uses in the first ten minutes of operation.
The energy in Joules contained on a capacitor is 1/2CV^2..so lets say you have a “battery” composed of 10 farad 600 volt caps ( that is about the size of a brick) so thats 360 10^4 Joules/cap when fully charged. A watt is a joule/second and a kilowatt( 1000 watts) is more less 1 horse power . thats a resistance of about 36 ohms at 600 volts. ( v^2/1000 = R) so one time constant ( RC) = 360 seconds ( time until the voltage has decreased by 66% ) or 6 minutes /hp .. Typically you need about 25 to 50 hp to power the typical vehicle so each capacitor will give you about 7.2 seconds of power output. So I guess its the ratio between the starting inefficiency of the turbine and how much volume in caps you want to carry around. Maybe this explains why they don’t run laptops on super capacitors.. :reaper: :reaper:
Typically you find super caps backing up static ram in hand held devices where you are talking about 2.5 volts at 10 microamps They are not the same as batteries when you require them to actually provide energy for prolonged periods of time. In the above example they would also have a charging time constant of 6 minutes/hp too. 😮
8) Fred 😉 , and I will respond to Many IF THE COMPUTER SAYS YES… 😉 when I get back from hour long workout… :dancers: 🙄 😉 :slap:

This is what I attempted to post at #26, when, clearly, my advanced age got the better of me:
The nation’s top official for consumer product safety has asked Congress in recent days to reject legislation intended to strengthen the agency, which polices thousands of consumer goods, from toys to tools.
On the eve of an important Senate committee meeting to consider the legislation, Nancy A. Nord, the acting chairwoman of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, has asked lawmakers in two letters not to approve the bulk of legislation that would increase the agency’s authority, double its budget and sharply increase its dwindling staff.
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/30/washington/30consumer.html?_r=1&hp=&oref=slogin&pagewanted=print
Why do we need a stronger consumer safety agency? Surely China doesn’t need any oversight. What’s a little lead paint among tots?
Again, I think the point was that the turbine runs for a few seconds and charges up the batteries nearly instantaneously, and then shuts down. Perhaps the article is lying, and it really doesn’t get the great fuel economy and power that it says it does, I don’t know. Of course, the super-duper hybrid was only a small part of the article.
I think maybe the “this shit can’t possibly work” is the same response the automobile engineers would and continually do give.
I’m pretty sure it’s also possible to prove beyond a doubt that bees can’t fly (although that may be one of those urban myth things).
At any rate, I agree. Nothing can possibly work. We are all doomed. I think I’ll call in sick for the rest of what’s left of my crappy little life.
They say that the reason most discoveries are made in graduate schools is because graduate students are very naive and don’t know that you can’t do this this way was already discovered for their project. :tap: :tap:
That, and they work cheap and require very little sleep. Well, except for me; I was already old and lazy by the time I went to grad school.
Unless you are independently wealthy or have a well endowed graduate program you have to eventually sell your idea to an investment banker who hire all sorts of “experts” and accountants to come and grill you on your technical credibility , do patent searches and see if your company can possible finance the project on its own ..Usually it boils down to whether they can steal your patent and get away with it. Thats why nothing is usually possible. :reaper: :reaper:
* not worth it
I think there are some Carlin fans around here who probably missed this one. George was on Costas on the Radio this weekend for an extended interview. I thought it was pretty darn good and I am not a big fan.
If you want to check it out and not hear the sports stuff in the beginning, start the first part at 19 minutes. The rest of the show is Carlin.
Denver has become accustomed to being a sacrificial lamb for capitalists .. Now its just baseball.. its used to be high tech and oil exploration.. With all the money to be made off of these games I am very surprised that the “they” didn’t let the Rockies win just enough to take the series to all seven games.. Some one in Denver obviously screweed up. :tap: :tap:
Thanks Vernon. And the announcer for the show is Dave Cohen, longtime Syracuse sportscaster.
pj, aren’t they all Syracuse sportscasters?
Heh. Yeah, pretty much. As is Bob Costas himself. We kinda have the market cornered on that.
That was a good show; I enjoyed listening to it. In these days of Bush, you forget how nice it is to listen to intelligent conversation.
What?
Thanks for the Carlin tip, Vernon. Saw him on Keith’s show but it was too brief.
Vernon said this the other day:
“I don’t know if you’ll have the stomach :barf: but the News Hour tonight had a discussion on Iran with Fareed Zakaria and Norman “the Horse’s†Podwhoretz. I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing this disgusting, rabid neocon so much but he almost makes William “the Bloody†look benevolent. Fareed actually looked pretty good. Podwhoretz was attacking him and anyone else who does not want to nuke Iran now viciously.”
I saw that segment and have never swore so much at a television screen in my life. Podwhoretz is evil personified. The bozo apparently got beat up too much by ghetto kids when he was growing up and ever since has wanted to take revenge on the world.
there was a 5.6 earthquake in northern california just now. Druid, did you feel anything??
I sure did. A long one as well near San Jose. That’s the most unnerving.
It’s Bob Ghoulet now. Guess he’d better watch out for Elvis out there. :tommygun:
🙁 :gate:
Quietgirl, Barely not like in “my city”, but acquaintance there won’t answer? Also getting strange calls looking for someone in Vacaville? :rofl2: about The Quake.
So I have to go back on the blog and see who felt what where? :cat: A!I!V! ..`.Shhh don’t tell anyone, but I “dig” getting shook up about this sizre of tumbler. .. :pirate: :dancers: A!I!V! 😉
oh okay. just checking Druid
I think it’s quite apropos, actually. I can’t believe people act so surprised by the crassness of this bunch. :jerk:
Never mind. I’ll be OK once I leave the Opera.
re 56, but Cheney can pay dearly for going where that flag is displayed. Confederate Flag and Lynching are synonymous. :fist: A!I!V!
I doubt Cheney will be paying for any crimes in this life. I hope I’m wrong though.
I hate to say this but the Stars and Bars is a small thing to worry about and , sorry, but is hardly synonymous with lynching. Yes, it made my flesh crawl when I was a teen and it was the symbol at my HS and Dixie was the school song but it seems that there are bigger shrimp to fry now. A noose is another matter entirely.
I say just let them have their little flag. It is a display of ignorance and at least you can see ’em coming.
Maybe Cheney will get too close to a malfunctioning microwave some day or go on a bender with Rummy out there in Maryland and mistakenly take a joyride to France.
