Man, I really don’t feel like going back to work today. After four days off, this is shaping up to be one really long week. And now Elizabeth Kucinich is saying that Dennis would “definitely consider” Ron Paul as his running mate? Oy.

Oy indeed. Can someone point Elizabeth toward Ron Paul’s website? Granted, she’s fun to look at, but come on. Ron Paul? Puh-leeeze.

I guess as long as they don’t have air to ground missiles attached they are probably no worse than the traffic cams. :reaper: :reaper:
Regarding 7, I am LIVID! I feel so bad about what these dear people are going through. I am even more livid that the DEMS and GRNS and definitely the RETHUGS are doing nothing! This is ALL rhetoric regarding the non-hired, and Trent leaves this year with his disability and retirement intact.. To me NO ONE GETS HEALTH AND DENTAL until ALL does – the young and old “children” of someone. Then we brilliant folk would HAVE TO DO SOMETHING! Yes, there is a way, actually, several ways. :fustrate: Yes, we might raise taxes, but also focus on bringing money in. :fustrate: … :fist: A!I!V! :fist: 😉
Don’t forget to add the TalkOfools to this list. :tommygun: :tommygun:

— Sen. Trent Lott, the No. 2 Republican in the Senate, intends to resign by the end of the year, the Mississippi Republican announced Monday.

A senior Republican source close to Lott said one reason for Lott’s decision to resign is the new lobbying restrictions on former lawmakers.

A few years ago Americans walked into the grocery store and plucked items from the shelves with a confidence that the world could only envy. Now, according to a survey for the Food Marketing Institute, only 66 percent of consumers in the United States are confident that the food they buy is safe, down from 82 percent last year. With news of killer spinach, tainted hamburger patties and imported seafood that can provide as many toxins as omega-3s, who can blame them?
Snip
Food safety, like toy safety, is part of a growing national concern that government agencies that are supposed to protect consumers have been whittled down to incompetence.

Moon Over Pigeon Point Lighthouse
Credit & Copyright: Tyler Westcott
Explanation: This spectacular sky is mostly human-made. Once a year, the Light Station at Pigeon Point near San Francisco, California, USA is lit as it was over 100 years ago. During this time, light generated by five kerosene lamps pours through 24 rotating Fresnel lenses, warning approaching ships to stay away. Early last week, light emanating from the Pigeon Point Lighthouse was particularly picturesque because of a thin fog, also blurring the distant Moon. During the latter 1970s, the lighthouse was guarded by an 800 pound pig named Lester. In modern times, the light house is still active but has been supplied with a more efficient flashing aerobeacon.

That’s some shot, Druid.
It’s chilly and rainy. I had to wait for a let up in the rain in order to get Emily to go out. I think the silly dog would cross her legs all day rather than walk in the rain.
Well
It looks like the SBR Titanic is still having significant buoyancy problems…( insert glub… glub… glub.. emo here)

Here’s some information on plans for the YouTube debate on Wednesday. A number of local groups, most notably St Pete For Peace but also including some Ron Paul followers, will be uniting downtown to draw attention to the homeless situation.
Rather than send the cops out to slice up their tents like they did last winter, the city of St Pete is planning to warehouse their homeless in a facility being put together in an industrial area several miles north of the city. Their pitch is that the homeless will have shelter, meals, shower facilities, etc.
Never mind that it’s in the middle of nowhere with no access to transportation, which is no good for anyone trying to maintain a job or even seeking day labor. Mayor Baker figures out of sight, out of mind, and since he is term-limited and seeking higher office, it works out nicely for him too. That’s where we come in.
The Repigs are throwing a barbeque in a downtown park at $20 a pop. We’re in another park down the street, from whence we will march over to the Mahaffey Theater (or as close to it as the cops will let us) around 6:30 or so.
Due to the nature of the protest, I decided to put the clowning on hold this time. I figure if Guiliani ends up getting the nomination, it will be more fun to clown him then anyway.
Local coverage has been good so far. I was flipping channels this morning before work and caught stories on two of the five local news broadcasts. Not sure about the other three, I wasn’t flipping fast enough, I guess. 😀 The ABC affiliate did a story at 5, and another at 5:30 with one of their new reporters, yet more incentive for me to be there Wednesday if she’ll be covering it. :hot: :hubba:
Not that I take things like that into consideration, of course.
There’s no chance of getting into the actual debate, since tix are long gone and went to Repigs only, surprise surprise. Not that I would want to listen to those idiots bloviate anyway.
I’ll keep everyone posted, hopefully with shorter posts. Logorrhea strikes again. :smack:
WHY do people — gay or straight — need the state’s permission to marry? For most of Western history, they didn’t, because marriage was a private contract between two families. The parents’ agreement to the match, not the approval of church or state, was what confirmed its validity.
For 16 centuries, Christianity also defined the validity of a marriage on the basis of a couple’s wishes. If two people claimed they had exchanged marital vows — even out alone by the haystack — the Catholic Church accepted that they were validly married.
In 1215, the church decreed that a “licit†marriage must take place in church. But people who married illictly had the same rights and obligations as a couple married in church: their children were legitimate; the wife had the same inheritance rights; the couple was subject to the same prohibitions against divorce.
Not until the 16th century did European states begin to require that marriages be performed under legal auspices. In part, this was an attempt to prevent unions between young adults whose parents opposed their match.

Sue P., ya hit on something that is MY “bug a boo”. Why do people NEED to have a Christian ceremony if they do not want you? I have blessed the Birth, Married, and Buried — and even a few “good” (and/or) decent divorces — and I dare the CA officials to try and tell me I can’t marry gays or lesbians. :fist: A!I!V! :fist: :peace:
Fred, my 86plus year old friend teased about ya — since after your post I never heard further from ya…
So she said that ya must not be all that Irish :rofl2: :dancers: A!I!V!

Amusing James Wolcott video discussing Norman Mailer:

BTW, Wolcott has been railing on his blog saying that there is currently absolutely nothing good on morning radio.
WOW. Cenk is New. Bill, I still remember he has been the constant
Liberal. Thom has not been very ACTIVE in doing anything but write. I wish he would be more like me in ACTIONS and me more like he regarding finishing some things in writing….
I would go on in mornings since another Libra, as Steph, from same school as Stephie, but I was the classic “poor” student, so I could relate to all “walks”, but couldn’t buy me a station although I looked. I think my A. Attitude is showing. Overall, this is A Joke.
