After a slow start, the snow really started coming down last night. I guess I’d better go see if I have to shovel the driveway to get to work. Too bad they don’t give snow days to grownups.

Ah, nothing like an early morning snow shoveling to get the old heart started. Looks like we’ve gotten about 8″ here at my house, with another 3 – 7 coming by the end of the day. Nasty wind, too (though not as bad this morning as it was when I shoveled the driveway last night).

The snow on the blog is cool. In real life, not so much. Whenever I get fed up with Florida politics, I watch footage from up north and remember why I moved down here in the first place.

Good morning. Gotta go to work. Very windy and beginning to snow here in Red Hook.
Funny, I was watching the news about all that nasty flooding in the Pacific Northwest, and they interviewed a woman who said “I’d still rather be here than on the east coast with all the snow,” and I was thinking just the opposite. I’d much rather deal with the snow. We might get some snow here, but we’re pretty used to it, know how to deal with it, and we don’t get hurricanes, tornadoes, mudslides, etc., and before the bugs can get too big, it gets cold and kills them off.
Snowing like crazy out here right now. Very pretty.

All the :fu: ing snowplows in Syracuse are busted!! The main drag I drove in on was just barely clear and only in some spots. Mostly lots of very slippery slop to drive through, frozen wipers, snow coming down like a sonofabitch, goddam SUVs zipping by my little 20 MPH Hyundai Accent & then spinning out when the assholes have to stop for red lights.
Not a great way to start what promises to be another 😀 fun 😀 ( :no: ) day in

Schools canceling classes can cause much disruption in the work place with parents running around frantically trying to find a kid sitter, having to stay home or they bring their kids to work.. I have to wonder if the admin staffers who bring their kids to work get a lot of comments about how what the kid observed constitutes business. :reaper: :reaper:

This does not portend to be a wonderful winter up here. And I am NOT a transplanted NYC snow wimp (I was at first, but lived in the midwest several years where the ICE is far worse than the snow here before coming here) as PJ likes to imply. Yeah, snow in NYC & on Long Island is not what it is up here, but NYC & L.I. will toughen you up in LOTS of other ways, as Sue P and Melina and other “downstaters” can attest to!
I have lived in Central New York for 20 years. I love it up here and really don’t care to live anywhere else anymore. I worked as a public health nurse & on-call hospice nurse & field case manager having to make home visits in equally horrendous conditions at all hours of day or night having to find places (some VERY off the beaten track) WITHOUT GPS!!! Basically for a stinking paycheck but also because it feels good to do work that people appreciate. It just takes a lot outta ya sometimes
I guess I am just getting old 🙄 :billcat: and tired of the stress of having to deal with the stress of just traveling to the place of MAJOR stress of having to deal with the shit of

The Fedex man (same man, same truck) came to my house 3 times today.
The first time I was at work and he left a note on the front door, “Package under steps.” where, by some miracle it remained until I got home.
The second time he came I was home and he wanted me to sigh for the package. But…the computer signing thingy wasn’t working. As he had already entered that someone was home, he didn’t want to leave the package because he couldn’t get a signature.
Standing there in the freezing cold, every once of kinkness was quickly draining from me. Finally, he agreed to let me sign the sheet of deliveries and he relinquished the package.
The third time he came I was just returnung from the store and I found him at the door leaving that “Package under steps” note. So, when I came up I asked him if he wanted me to sigh again. “Oh no,” he said “I’ve already marked you as not home. I don’t need a signature.”
:fustrate: Have I mentioned that I hate Fedex. I gladly pay extra just so packages are sent UPS. The UPS guy would NEVER leave a package under the steps on a Brooklyn Street. He knows with whom he can leave it and he knows when to hold on to it. And he’s a union member, to boot.

I can really sympathize with Emily. She wants to get the walk over as quickly as possible and I am in absolute agreement. Minnie, the shepherd, is really disappointed with my wimpiness.
