This has been another long week. Not as bad as last week, but there was a lot of shoveling involved (and kinda on the cold side, too). As of yesterday, our 26.8″ of snow has us solidly in the early lead for the Golden Snowball award, five inches ahead of Rochester, and actually about a foot over our normal average to date. Last year, we only had a couple of inches at this time, and we still wound up with over 140″, so this could shape up to be a pretty snowy winter. Or not. Either way, I’m sure glad as hell it’s finally Friday.

When Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) first campaigned for a U.S. House seat in 1992, he decided to show solidarity with would-be constituents by pledging not to sign up for government-subsidized health insurance for members of Congress until lawmakers had guaranteed all Americans access to health care.
Back then, as now, overhauling the health-care system was front and center on the national agenda, with the Democratic presidential campaign featuring big promises about making health coverage affordable and universal.
Years later, Brown, an advocate of a single-payer system that he likens to Medicare for all, is still waiting.

Judith Nathan got taxpayer-funded chauffeur services from the NYPD earlier than previously disclosed – even before her affair with then-Mayor Rudy Giuliani was revealed, witnesses and sources tell the Daily News.
“snip
When pressed by The News Thursday, aides to the Republican presidential hopeful conceded that Nathan got police protection “sporadically” before December 2000 – the previously acknowledged beginning of her taxpayer-funded detail.
Then-Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik said in January 2001 the NYPD assigned Nathan round-the-clock protection the month before because of an unspecified threat against her on a streetcorner near her home. He insisted at a news conference she had no guards until then.
Thursday, Giuliani aides changed their story. They said Nathan had received previously undisclosed “threats” earlier in 2000, and that protection was provided at those times.
They refused to provide dates, describe the nature of the threats or confirm – as witnesses and a law enforcement source now contend – that the protection began before she was publicly identified as the married mayor’s girlfriend in May 2000.
That would make the threat justification all the more puzzling, because she wasn’t a public figure.

Yay, KP (just getting around to hearing you on Jeff last night). You tell ’em!
I am guessing that Farias podcast is behind the NovaM premium wall as is the Malloy rebroadcast from yesterday. These guys sure know how to promote there product to a nation that mostly has no carriage. I would love to hear Kp and Malloy’s comments on Bernie Ward but apparently no.
I believe Jeff’s show is a freebie, Vernon. Malloy is a premium, and really about all NovaM has.
Bus ran 25 minutes late this morning. Made it in just in time, but no time to blog. Still working, though.
Although right now I’m enjoying lunch, trying desperately to keep my kick-ass spaghetti sauce (with lots of garlic) off my white shirt. So far, so good.
Just wondering what some were so upset about yesterday re: Malloy’s comments about Bernie Ward (who I had never heard of before)
He just registered his suspicions about Ward’s story to cover his downloading child porn (“I was doing research for a book on child porn”)
Sorry, that sound like every defense lawyers’s alibi to cover for their clients. :tap:
Kevin- glad to hear you still have a job (yesterday you were being handed a memo) 😯
According to the SF Chronicle story Vernon linked to:
Thanks, pj, Farias does look like a free DL.
re Bernie for art
I have listened to Ward on and off for years. You never know about people but I am very skeptical about this case. WD6 is even more passionate about it. I can’t believe, not having heard, that Malloy would pop off about it so early in the game, esp. against one of his ‘own’. Perhaps Bernie was kicking his ass in the ratings here.
BTW, you may be able to pick up KGO night programming where you are, not that I recommend it. I think I have heard fred :tommygun: :reaper: reference their shows now and then. Ray Taliaferro can be interesting and he did get sampled on a David Byrne-Brian Eno record.
“Sent and recieve”,kind of stands out in the last paragraph. I guess the only other thing I’d wonder about is if the fed DA is one of the da’s who was ‘politicized’ :spank: by torture boy gonzo.
Cathy was really the one who pushed Malloy to express an opinion. She’s talked to him before and thought he was very smart. She just didn’t think he would be so stupid as to download porn for a book.
It’s about all I can do to keep up with Rachel, Malloy and bartcop. The ONLYlocal ‘progressive’ yakker, Jay Marvin, is so bad that I think (and I think Fred would agree with me) he’s really a counter-operative planted to make all liberals sound like drugaddled drooling handjobs. :growl:
Interesting thing about trying to check on this case is there are no names of the US attorney’s office being mentioned. There is a new guy coming in to replace Kevin Ryan (Wiki warning) who was supposed to be a dismal failure but kept his mouth shut in the Gonzo scandal so they let him go quietly. They are at this moment doing their Barry Bonds show trial run up so they must be pretty tied up with the important stuff protecting us.
There are a lot of things that the cops ( depending a lot on how Reich they are) consider child porno … I know someone who sent pictures as attachments to emails of her kids ( a 12 year old girl and and 8 year old boy) taken at a nudist outing where they were body painting to another nudist and got busted for sending child porn over the Internet. I guess in most places if the place where the pictures were taken could be considered a “public” place or a private club where the activities are monitored or known then the pictures are not susposed to considered pornographic although in this situation the cops wanted to shut now the nudist colony calling it a “place of perversion”
I would think that in the SF area the heart of the “left coast” the police would have learned by now.. guess not.. :reaper: :reaper:
This is a federal case, not local. It sounds like the Ward lawyer acknowledges the evidence but not criminal intent. Sounds like the fedguv DoJ is saying fuck you anyway.
KGO streams all their broadcasts off their web site http://www.kgoam810.com/listenlive.asp
Some of their daytime programming is a bit to far to the Reich of center. They like to put all the liberals on in the middle of the night. :reaper: :reaper:
There are a bunch of nudist web sites on the internet which have down loadable photos that openly show children and young adults of all ages in the buff There are even web sites ( in the SBR) that have nudist videos for sale that have children, teens and adults doing various things including pageants in the buff. The Reich views these sites as a cover up for selling child porn over the internet although you could go there with your camera and take pictures if you are a member or were invited by a member. :tap: :tap:
LOS ANGELES, Dec. 6 — A Republican-sponsored ballot measure that would have changed the way the state apportions its 55 electoral votes will not be eligible for the June primary ballot, its sponsors said on Thursday, in spite of promises a few weeks ago that the initiative would get enough money and signatures to do so.
The sponsors now have their eyes on the November ballot.
The proposal has roused strong opposition from Democrats because it would probably transform California from reliably Democratic in presidential elections and hand the Republican nominee roughly 20 votes from Republican strongholds.
The ballot effort was dogged by questions about who was paying for its sponsorship and accusations that signatures were being gathered among residents of Skid Row here.

That referendum concerning California’s electoral votes is just another thing that the reich puts out there for consumption by the IDIOT MORONS who will be sold it by non stop Reich wing radio as “election reform”.. If they do that then all the other states would have to follow along .. I hate to think how that would work out.. :reaper: :reaper:

Israel considering strike on Iran despite US intelligence report
Rory McCarthy in Jerusalem
Friday December 7, 2007
Guardian Unlimited
Senior Israeli officials warned today they were still considering the option of a military strike against Iran, despite a fresh US intelligence report that concluded Tehran was no longer developing nuclear weapons.
Although Israel argues that it wants to see strong diplomatic pressure put on Iran, it is reluctant to rule out the threat of a unilateral military attack. Matan Vilnai, Israel’s deputy defence minister, told Army Radio today: “No option needs to be off the table.”
Avigdor Lieberman, the hard-right deputy prime minister, said Israel should be ready to act if sanctions did not work. “If they don’t, we will sit and decide whatever we have to decide,” he told the Jerusalem Post in an interview today.
Several of Israel’s Iran experts say the American rethink on the threat posed by Iran had ruled out a US military strike and probably an Israeli strike too, at least for now. However, Israel’s political hawks continue to keep the threat of action alive.

Hummm… didn’t the Russians just dispatch a naval task force to the mediterranean.. the dooms day clock goes tick… tick… tick…
Its amazing to me how many people still look at Rudi as “America’s mayor”.. probably a lot of the same ones that don’t know what AIPAC is :reaper: :reaper:
Yeah Art I saw that and if it gets on the ballot in the land of the IDIOT MORONS it will probably pass. :reaper: :reaper:
Hey, Seditiionisti: Time for an e-mail swarm to Dan Abrams:
I thought this one was worth passing along. It’s a highly unsubstantiated rumor, so take it for what it’s worth.
The rumor comes via R.S. Janes at BartBlog (a.k.a. Bartcop). It claims that MSNBC may have found that host they’ve been looking for. And it ain’t Rosie O’Donnell. This rumor claims that MSNBC regular and Air America Radio host Rachel Maddow may get the nod. Here’s more:
Finally, a note under the door says Air America Radio’s Rachel Maddow will be offered the hour following Keith Olbermann on MSNBC, but only with a ‘funny’ co-host, as it appears increasingly unlikely that The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart or Bill Maher and others will step in for the kind of unimpressive money and short-term contract that are on the table. Rumor is the cable channel’s execs are impressed with Maddow, but she’s not perceived as ‘funny’ enough by herself for the uptempo news/comedy format they’re seeking. Paul F. Tompkins and Joel McHale, that guy Keith has on who hosts E!s “The Soup,†have been mentioned as co-hosts, as well as Rachel’s AAR colleague Randi Rhodes, although Randi is seen by some as too partisan and combative. If this goes through, the prime-time weekday line up for MSNBC would then be “Hardballâ€; “Countdown with Keith Olbermannâ€; the as-yet-unnamed Rachel Maddow show, and “Live with Dan Abrams.†Expect a press release in January.
Again, this is just a rumor, and one that hasn’t hit the big media gossip sites yet, so do with it what you wish.
Linky linky.
Last time I looked, that Maron fella — you know, the one with TV and radio experience who’s funny as hell — needed a job. And that guy Sammy something who only works on Saturday could use a TV gig too.
And not very funny. There’s a reason why she, self admittedly, failed as a stand up comic. :smack:
Thanks for the heads up Brill. I guess we should mobilize the Sedtionists. Would Rachel want to work with Marc? Are they friends or did Marc piss her off too?? I would love to see him on tv but he would have to refrain from talking about the cats and his divorce. :knit2:
She let Marc fill in for her the other week, and when he was on her show a day or so prior to guest hosting, she said she ‘wanted him back.’ So, I think they’re OK with each other.
Oh good :hot: That’s right, I forgot about that.
44 again ❗ :yippee:
As much as I hate to say this, I think Maron might not be right for that job. The real Marc maybe too edgy, toned downed Marc a disappointment to us and maybe himself. On the other hand, when he worked with Riley, it went quite well and I think Maddow is a lot better than MR. He also seems to do well with a staff helping. I would have to vote Seder or someone else (please, not Will Durst!). Rachel has been on a lot there lately.
I’m not quite sure Marc is squeaky clean enough to be on TV .. he may have to shave off his beard and get something to wear other than that navy blue jacket he often wears when he is on the video cast with Sam. He would look kind of like something Rachel found on a park bench. :tap: :tap:
I think Marc would get a hair cut for a tv gig. Although, I like him scruffy. Sam is a little funnier than Randi, but again, didn’t he fail as a stand up? Having said that ,Sam is an awesome talk show host and I love to hear him debate right wingers and his impersonation of Bush is way better than Randi’s :yuck:
Maron cleans up purty good for his TV shots.
http://www.marcmaron.com/
I’m with Vernon. Frankly, I’d like to see Rachel reunited with Lizz Winsted. I liked the girl’s club atmosphere (especially following the boy’s club atmosphere of Morning Sedition – AAR gave me some of each).
I think Marc works best with an ensemble. I suspect that was what was behind the strange inclusion of “Don” in his recent broadcasts. Marc needs company and I don’t know if Rachel is enough or the right kind of company.
Marc also has an undercurrent of anger that might not work in this show. I can imagine serious Rachel getting put out with Marc for being silly sometimes, and Marc going on an angry rant about a serious topic that Rachel may want to handle more lightly.
But I think Marc would be much better than those silly fellows Olberman puts on for the celebrity/culture news stories. None of those guys are funny and Keith comes off as more witty than the comics. Marc and Keith would be seriously, caustically funny together.
Marc and KO, Hmmm, never thought of that. You’re right Colette, they would be good together.Keith can be a little sarcastic with his wit and I always thought that went well with righteous anger. 💡
Marc would be sooo verrryy much funnier than the stale gay guy from the village voice with KO.
I just heard Lizz for the first time with Rachel a couple of weeks ago- they had great chemistry and I think Lizz would really bring out the funny that’s in Rachel’s big brain better than Marc: on the other hand, Lizz is a little too inside and catty which would probably piss off the (mostly) MSM audience that watchs KO
Marc and Keith. That would be awesome.
Senate Republicans on Friday blocked efforts to advance a wide-ranging energy bill, aiming to strip it of provisions that would roll back tax breaks for big oil companies and require utilities to generate a large chunk of electricity from sources such as solar and wind energy.

Colette, you always seem to hit the nail. Maron on KO segments, brilliant and doable from LA. I never much cared for Michael Musto. Winstead with Maddow also sounds great to me.
This morning, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) delivered an impassioned floor speech to help frame the debate over FISA reform. Using his privilege as a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Whitehouse said he has “spent hours poring over†secret opinions issued by the Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) — and he took notes.
Whitehouse is a lawyer, a former U.S. Attorney, a former legal counsel to Rhode Island’s Governor, and a former State Attorney General. He said he sought and received permission to have his notes declassified because he wanted to show the public “what the Bush administration does behind our backs when they think no one is looking.â€
“To give you an example of what I read,†Whitehouse said on the Senate floor, “I have gotten three legal propositions from these secret OLC opinions declassified. Here they are, as accurately as my note-taking could reproduce them from the classified documentsâ€:
1. An executive order cannot limit a President. There is no constitutional requirement for a President to issue a new executive order whenever he wishes to depart from the terms of a previous executive order. Rather than violate an executive order, the President has instead modified or waived it.
2. The President, exercising his constitutional authority under Article II, can determine whether an action is a lawful exercise of the President’s authority under Article II.
3. The Department of Justice is bound by the President’s legal determinations.

Thanks PJ, I sent you a note.
I think Marc on MSNBC might be like Marc on Conan, way too toned down.

So how did Harrison handle Joe ?? I hope he put him in his place.. :reaper: :reaper:
I didn’t realize that Aaron Russo died this past August. 🙁 :gate:
Harrison didn’t handle him in a satisfactory manner, I felt. Of course, he didn’t know what to expect and probably wasn’t particularly prepared. I don’t think Joe is genuine, I think he is just trying to get reactions. :jerk:
Out here in the land of the IDIOT MORONs there are quite a few people like Joe.. They prey on the :sheep: le by there ideas that using exceptional force is the answer to every problem .. hence you get the War on Drugs and three counts and you are out and thousands of people in prison for possession of small quantities of drugs or shop lifting.. and the police tasering anyone that even acts suspicious and of course those people in prison or the county jail are not counted as being unemployed ..but then under the Bush admin neither are the real unemployed..
