Sorry to keep harping on this, but cruising with “my favorite Air America hosts” to Mexico does not sound like a good time to me.
As much as I enjoy listening to Rachel and would probably be
edified by having wine and cheese with Hartmann, I keep imagining a drunken Randi with her hands around the neck of a drunken Lionel, curses and handfuls of hair flying about.
Are they advertising this so much because they’re having trouble
filling the berths? What progressive would want to go on this trip?
The hosts all sound gloomy – Rachel particularly. This does not bode well for AAR.
Hey, does anyone know where we can we can listen to Sam filling in for Rhandi? Also, what is up with the young turks?
Clodene,
Liberal Talk Radio blog has some speculation:
http://ltradio.blogspot.com/2007/12/nobodys-business-but-turks.html
I know that Rachel is as mad as can be about Kent’s fiiring and it was interesting to hear her vow that she and Kent would work together again somedaY (on TV??). Randi also got teary talking
about her staff on Friday.
Thanks, Colette. I cannot believe how hard it is to hear the programming. I used to be a premium member when Marc was on then cancelled. Last year they still took $50 out of my account. I sent AAR three emails and called but no one ever returned my inquiries.
Clodene,
The Turks are doing a web only broadcast at 3:00 PM today.
Go here to watch
Oops! I didn’t click Colette’s link. :smack:
Kinda sounds like AAR doesn’t want to pay the Turds for the show (or not as much, anyway), and so they’re not on the air anymore. But, who knows?
Mark Green’s goal seems to be to just have a radio station in NYC where he can act like a radio bigshot, while anything or anyone that was ever worthwhile is squeezed out.
Danny Goldberg must be very proud of him.
The Investigations of the Destruction of CIA Torture Tapes: How An ACLU Lawsuit Might Force the Bush Administration To Reveal What Actually Happened
By my count, there appear to be no less than ten preliminary investigations underway, following the revelation that the CIA destroyed at least two sets of videotapes (containing hundreds of hours of footage) of “advanced interrogation” techniques being employed in terrorism investigations. In fact, every branch of government is now involved.
Colette, Clodene , Andy aka Aquaman (glub, glub 😉 ) PJSauter and the rest. Tea Cheers.

I think all is a Money Thing. We have to support what wee Ray of Light there is; however, many are just trying to get by.

Rising seas ‘to beat predictions’
Sea level rise is fuelled by melting ice in Greenland and Antarctica
The world’s sea levels could rise twice as high this century as UN climate scientists have previously predicted, according to a study.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change proposes a maximum sea level rise of 81cm (32in) this century.

New Turks on now.
So, what’s the word on the Turds? I can’t listen live here.
They are leaving AAR and going into a partnership with Brave New Films among others. Cenk didn’t give out all the details. They’ll be on AAR till 01/15/2008.
I could not get onto the website for the first 30 minutes. Ralph Nader is on now but since I missed the first 30 that might have been when we got the scoop.
Great. Maybe we can get a real progressive radio network (or at least a producer of content for syndication and distribution over traditional and alternative outlets) that’s entertaining to listen to.
It would be great if you could subscribe to one “network” and get access to all the content (assuming the content doesn’t suck), as opposed to paying $10 a month per show.
Damned if it isn’t snowing like a bastid out there again. After a slow start (the first few inches were a mixture of snow and sleet that was like shoveling wet sand), we got about a foot. Looks like we’re getting a little lake effect action now.
Giant Rat Discovered in ‘Lost World’
JAKARTA, Indonesia (Dec. 17) – Researchers in a remote jungle in Indonesia have discovered a giant rat and a tiny possum that are apparently new to science, underscoring the stunning biodiversity of the Southeast Asian nation, scientists said Monday.

Ah, the lake effect. We used to get it in northeast Ohio too. I had a good laugh watching clips from the Bills-Browns game yesterday. The Browns’ stadium is on the Lake Erie shore, and the winds whip in from across the lake. Froze my ass off in the old stadium (same location) when I was ten watching the Browns and Bengals.
As fed up as I get with Florida sometimes, no way do I miss the lake effect. Bullshit is a lot easier to shovel than snow.

Well, I won’t miss the turds :billcat: The very few times I listened, they sounded just as snotty, arrogant & obnoxious as Limbaugh :yuck: but in a less hateful way. Irritating, but not in a totally Randi way :rant1:

Here’s a nice little bed time story, Kiddies, from Granny’s Story Corner:
:pup: :cat: :pup: :cat: :pup:
Another tragic story…. It started out innocently enough…….. I began to think at parties now and then — just to loosen up.
Inevitably, though, one thought led to another, and soon I was more than just a social thinker.
I began to think alone — “to relax,” I told myself — but I knew it
wasn’t true. Thinking became more and more important to me, and finally I was thinking all the time.
That was when things began to sour at home. One evening I turned off the TV and asked my wife about the meaning of life. She spent that night at her mother’s.
I began to think on the job. I knew that thinking and employment don’t mix, but I couldn’t help myself.
I began to avoid friends at lunchtime so I could read Thoreau, Muir, Confucius and Kafka. I would return to the office dizzied and confused, asking, “What is it exactly we are doing here?”
One day the boss called me in. He said, “Listen, I like you, and it hurts me to say this, but your thinking has become a real problem. If you don’t stop thinking on the job, you’ll have to find another job.”
This gave me a lot to think about. I came home early after my conversation with the boss. “Honey,” I confessed, “I’ve been thinking…” “I know you’ve been thinking,” she said, “and I want a divorce!”
“But Honey, surely it’s not that serious.” “It is serious,” she said,
lower lip a quiver. “You think as much as college professors and college professors don’t make any money, so if you keep on thinking, we won ‘t have any money!” “That’s a faulty syllogism,” I said impatiently.
She exploded in tears of rage and frustration, but I was in no mood to deal with the emotional drama. “I’m going to the library,” I snarled as I stomped out the door.
I headed for the library, in the mood for some Nietzsche. I roared into the parking lot with NPR on the radio and ran up to the big glass doors. They didn’t open. The library was closed.
To this day, I believe that a Higher Power was looking out for me that night. Leaning on the unfeeling glass, whimpering for Zarathustra, a poster caught my eye, “Friend, is heavy thinking ruining your life?” it asked.
You probably recognize that line. It comes from the standard Thinkers Anonymous poster.
This is why I am what I am today: a recovering thinker. I never miss a TA meeting. At each meeting we watch a non-educational video; last week it was “Porky’s.” Then we share experiences about how we avoided thinking since the last meeting.
I still have my job, and things are a lot better at home. Life just seemed easier, somehow, as soon as I stopped thinking. I think the road to recovery is nearly complete for me.
Today I took the final step . . . I joined the Republican Party.
Probably one of Rushbo’s relatives :reaper:
Don’t know what’s in the water in Cape Girardeau, MO — it causes loud mouth hatemongers & serial killers. 😡 :tommygun:
The turks are doing another filibuster the filibuster. Let’s hope their server holds out.
Well apparently during this filibuster several liberal blogs have come under DoS attack, most notably firedoglake.
Buffalo gets lake effect from Lake Erie, too. Erie is shallow and freezes over, though, so the lake effect is early in the season. Ontario doesn’t freeze, so we get it all year long. I must say, though, that, having shoveled both manure (though, admittedly, not of the bovine type) and snow, I’d sooner shovel snow.
This has been quite a day!
I came home at lunchtime to find there was no electricity. The wind had disconnected something on a pole. I lost my checkbook and had to deal with Citibank. And then, I had to go into Manhattan for a stupid and totally useless conference.
On the bright side I found my sunglasses and my boots for dog walking were finally delivered.
I’m pleased it isn’t snowing but the wind is cold and furious and, of course, I’m going to have to walk those dogs.
Oh, and Happy 90th Birthday, Arthur C. Clarke! :cake:
Chris Dodd hasforced Reid to pull the Fisa/telecom immunity bill, for now.
After nearly 10 hours of discussion Monday, the Senate decided to delay a final vote on a controversial domestic spying bill until the new year, under the threat of a protracted filibuster from Sen. Chris Dodd.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid spent the afternoon Monday huddling with Senate leaders and fellow Democrats to try to work out a deal over an update to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. As the FISA update was written, it included a provision for legal immunity to telecommunications companies that facilitated a warrantless wiretapping scheme that Dodd and other Democrats said was illegal.
“We have tried to work through this process, and it appears quite clear that on this bill we are not going to be able to do that,” Reid said around 7:30 p.m. Monday, after Senators had spent the day debating propositions of the FISA update.

Great job, Senator Dodd. Even if it’s not over, at least somebody in the Senate has some guts. And shame on you, Harry Reid.
Also, what’s up with Kennedy supporting the bill?Apparently that was bad info.Being a member of the Church of Monday Night Football, I know what is good about Monday.
MNF starts too damn late for me, now that I’m a wimpy, feeble, old person.
Sue P, 8) Dodd … what a battle … :hot: whew A!I!V! :pirate:

Granny, did you notice this is the 100th anniversary of Muir Woods? I have walked there many times wondering what Khrushchev thought of the big trees. BTW, I still have two in pots on my D.C. suburb deck.
Why do these people even bother to get married in the first place? And why is this considered news?
Oh, yeah, and Princess Diana is still dead, too.
Muir Woods 8) … :tap: A!I!V! :pirate: :reaper: :dancers:
And why is this considered news? …is the question?A!I!V! …and what are you doing up  Only I can be so “lame” :dancers:
It seems that if you stand up to Reid, he backs down. Some boxer! We need some Dem leadership with a spine. Is that too much to ask?
I’m sending Dodd some money. We need to reward good behavior.
ON “Meet the Press†a week ago, Rudolph W. Giuliani attempted to deflect criticism of his close relationship with his former police commissioner, Bernard Kerik, by saying that his misjudgment of Mr. Kerik had to be weighed against his other accomplishments. “How can I not have pretty good judgment about the people who work for me and not been able to turn around the United States attorney’s office?†he asked. But Mr. Giuliani’s claim to have turned around the Manhattan United States attorney’s office is not only untrue, it is an insult to the outstanding men and women who have served in that office over the last 50 years
