Wow, a whole day without having to shovel anything. The big nor’easter was a bit of a bust, but the lake effect that came along with it helped take up the slack. From Sunday until yesterday morning, we got about 20 inches of snow here. That gives us over 52″ for the season so far, putting us solidly in the lead for the vaunted Golden Snowball (over a foot ahead of Rochester). I must be getting old, ‘cuz I have to admit (sadly) that I’m a wee bit sore from all this shoveling. At least I haven’t had a heart attack (yet).
First day back to work, first comment. Whoopee. But at least they’re feeding us today.
Thanks, pj!

Quick hunting camp Frito casserole. Feeds two hungry men. Sticks to your ribs.
one can chili,
one can tamales,
one bag Fritos,
one bag grated cheddar cheese.
Make layers of Fritos, unwrapped tamales, and chili until you fill your dish/pot. Make a layer of cheese on top. Heat until the cheese on top is toasted. More Fritos on the side and a bottle of Texas Pete.

I get the impression that commercial TeeVee is being designed for those rethugs and demodorops who are sitting around the pool/pool table waiting for that dividend /social security check since they are the only ones in this society that can still afford to buy something there sponsors are selling. Is it PTSD or just shopping at WalMart?
This is mild compared to what some vets must be coming back with. I remember some horrendous killings by Vietnam vets in the 1970s when they got back. But we didn’t have PTSD then. This Iraq debacle certainly looks to be unfolding into an even bigger mess than Vietnam. But you wouldn’t know it by MSM.
Oh, and the other day I noticed that we have a new “Military Career Center” just down the road from us on a main drag. Might be ripe for a Raging Granny takeover :tommygun:

One of the problems with the privatization of so many non combat functions in the military is that the recruit that used to join the army to go to school and learn a trade finds themselves being trained as a person who is very proficient at killing people and breaking things for living.. There are not that many jobs ( so far at least) that have those credentials as required qualifications. Are we training the first generation of the Borg ?? :reaper: :reaper:
I feel so “used” :knit2: . The evil rethugs used what they learned TO MANIPULATE THE Masses…and aka “concrete thinkers”.

Okay, so Fearsome Leader signs the energy bill he vowed seven years ago to never, ever sign. Something to do with “conservation” not needed in our high octane economy. It still doesn’t come up to the Carter Administration standards Reagan gutted in 1981.
This bill fuels the ethanol stampede, which is driving food prices through the roof. Corn by-products are used in a tremendous amount of processed products. Corn is a chief animal feed. With the demand for corn increasing as a fuel additive – not a primary fuel but ONLY as an additive – farmers can get higher prices for corn as a fuel than for corn as a food.
Other farmers see this. Many have switched from wheat and soy beans to corn, driving those costs higher. Low feed supplies for livestock drives meat prices higher. Farmers thin herds which later drives meat prices even higher due to demand pressures in another exhilirating ride on the livestock farming roller coaster.
Bio-fuel experts claim other plants can provide more ethanol than corn. But those crops are not commercially viable at the moment. Why, I do not know. What happens when those crops become readily available? Is there a crash in the corn-as-fuel market and more farmers go belly up?
How does this corn-as-fuel stampede affect our food imports? As a nation we can no longer feed ourselves. We don’t even try since corporate farms outside the United States can feed us more cheaply with a much wider variety of products year round. Where do farm subsidies come into play?
Lastly, has anyone taken into consideration the national security question? If most of our food supply is produced outside the United States how can we as a nation insure our food supply, not to mention food safety, especially if we take into consideration accelerating climate change?
greetings Bloggies!!!!!

Rudy’s new and awful ad, with Joe Scarborough and co. reacting incredulously to it.

Dan Barrett’s victory tonight has implications beyond better representation for Fort Worth residents. To relay its importance, we have to look at what brought us to this point.
In 2001, Republican’s drew a map they thought would elect 102 R’s and 48 D’s. They were wrong as only 88 Republicans and 62 Democrats were elected in 2002. Still, it was a striking blow to Democrats as we had lost our majority, the Speakership, and control of the operation of the Texas House. That was a low point for Democrats in Texas as well as nationally. The result was the rise of the neo-conservative, uber Republican Tom Craddick who slashed the budget and cut social programs like CHIP and education funding. To this day that funding has never been restored even with surpluses in the state budget.
snip
This election is a sign of the future. In less than 2 years, Texas Democrats have picked up 8 state house seats with rumors circulating that another may be on the way. Before the primaries are over, the gains made by the Republican’s have been cut in half while we still compete on the same Republican favored, unconstitutional, Tom DeLay sponsored map. We sit on the edge of a Democratic House because we have won special elections, general elections, and the hearts and minds of voters across the state.

At least four top White House lawyers took part in discussions with the Central Intelligence Agency between 2003 and 2005 about whether to destroy videotapes showing the secret interrogations of two operatives from Al Qaeda, according to current and former administration and intelligence officials.
The accounts indicate that the involvement of White House officials in the discussions before the destruction of the tapes in November 2005 was more extensive than Bush administration officials have acknowledged.
Those who took part, the officials said, included Alberto R. Gonzales, who served as White House counsel until early 2005; David S. Addington, who was the counsel to Vice President Dick Cheney and is now his chief of staff; John B. Bellinger III, who until January 2005 was the senior lawyer at the National Security Council; and Harriet E. Miers, who succeeded Mr. Gonzales as White House counsel.
It was previously reported that some administration officials had advised against destroying the tapes, but the emerging picture of White House involvement is more complex. In interviews, several administration and intelligence officials provided conflicting accounts as to whether anyone at the White House expressed support for the idea that the tapes should be destroyed.
One former senior intelligence official with direct knowledge of the matter said there had been “vigorous sentiment†among some top White House officials to destroy the tapes. The former official did not specify which White House officials took this position, but he said that some believed in 2005 that any disclosure of the tapes could have been particularly damaging after revelations a year earlier of abuses at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.

I guess we are the only ones who are expected to follow the law. In the future I think we each should send in a signing statement, as each law is passed, saying exactly which parts of it we will or will not follow.

Fat Headdie does not like anyone who will not kiss his fat ass. He had this same thing about Howard Dean when he did not immediately bow down after taking over the chairmanship. Headdie is back on my do not listen list as is Randi. If someone is going to make my blood boil, it has to be someone I enjoy listening to as well.
NC Blue’s #24 is a happy scenario and it will not make gas any cheaper. This is also why I am suspicious of another Fat Headdie fav, the farm bill. How will they hide the inflation? They won’t. They’ll let the Dems take the spear.
Maron next!
NC Blue, yes, truly it is a vicious sick cycle, as we are being forced along “as pigs to the slaughter” to just accept: as with the hybrid “seed” and Ethanol.
Regarding Ethanol I feel I am in a constant “Silent Scream” mode.

Time Magazine Has Selected the Wrong ‘Person of the Year‘
Time magazine made its person of the year this year Vladimir Putin, the new Russian czar.
You have to wonder what is up with the editors at Time magazine. Putin is probably important in the great scheme of things, but what American can honestly say that the person of the year is anybody but General David Petraeus?
Bill O’Reilly said Petraeus should be man of the year last week, and he is absolutely right. If Patraeus had not taken over the war effort it would be slogging along at a dispiriting and deathly pace, and the election season right now would be dominated by Iraq.
Vernon — re #46 — Maybe I’ve got a hearing issue but I always had trouble distinguishing Fat Headie’s voice from Rush Limpuke’s voice — to me they sound the same — kind of like Snoopy’s “blah blah blah” drone, only shrill & eardrum piercing. :yuck:
SueP — re #48 — :omg: :omg: :omg: :omg: :omg: — but I should get one for each of my two daughters in Minneapolis who have asthma & shitty health insurance with copays to put them into poverty if godforbid they should end up with status asthmaticus — not to mention my little granddaughter who needs to be protected from lead poisoning from her teething rings!! :omg: :omg:
