I hope you don’t have to go to work today. I’m certainly glad I don’t. I postponed all my usual exciting Sunday activities (laundry, charge my cell phone, etc.) to today.
Kinda cold here, but I won’t bitch about it, ‘cuz I know it’s even colder for you Minnesohtuns. And just north of here, they’re getting three to six feet (yeah, they measure it in feet up there) of snow, while we don’t have much of anything at all here.
Didn’t watch any football yesterday, but I saw the friggin’ Patriots won again. I’m pretty sick of them. Didn’t catch the score of the Giants game, but hopefully they, at least, managed to win. Probably not, though. Nobody I want ever seems to win these days.
Speaking of which, there was John Edwards. Here’s what he had to say yesterday:
“I got my butt kicked. That is what happened in Nevada,†the former North Carolina senator told Wolf Blitzer on CNN’s Late Edition. “And the job for me now is — I have learned this from my whole life experience, is when you get knocked down, you have got to get up. You have got to get up and start fighting again…
Well, I like the sentiment, at least. And I hope he continues to be a pain in Clintama’s ass from now until the goddamn convention.
The St Petersburg Times endorsed Obama yesterday. Which is not the worst part.
The worst part is that in the lead paragraph, they ran a sentence stating that “John Edwards also is continuing to campaign,” or something to that effect. And that’s ALL the mention they gave him in the entire editorial.
The rest of it (and it was a long one, about 2/3 of a page) was devoted to the two-person horserace of Clinton vs. Obama.
I expect this sort of sloppy journalism from the networks. But it is ridiculous for the Times to brag that their independent ownership allows them to provide more comprehensive news coverage when they do stupid shit like this.
If they don’t feel that Edwards warrants an endorsement, that’s their call to make. But to dismiss his campaign in one lame sentence is pitiful.
Their chief political writer is a yuppie Repig with an axe to grind against progressives. Draw your own conclusions.
I feel a letter to the editor coming on. Hopefully I’ll get some work done today while I write it.
:fu: :fu: :fu:
Good morning. :joe: :joe:
It’s Dr. King’s birthday. I remember the awful day that he was shot. I guess when the Rethugs couldn’t smear or intimidate him into oblivion they killed him. 😥
Why am I being logged out when I put my computer to sleep? Then I try to log in and I get incorrect password and then I try to have a password sent to my email and it says the mail server host is down or something and then I try to log in again and it works.
If you’re in any kind of leadership position and want to genuinally make the world a better place, you get :tommygun: 👿
KP, I too was logged out this morning. I logged back in but when I re-opened the blog I was logged out again. I was about to blame the cats who are able, with their four little furry feet, to do things to my computer that often take a great deal of frustrating time to undo. But, for once they may be innocent. :cat: :cat:
An unusually large share of workers have been out a job for more than six months even as overall unemployment has remained low, a little-noted weakness in the labor market that analysts said threatens to intensify the impact of the unfolding economic downturn.
In November, nearly 1.4 million people — almost one in five of those unemployed — had been jobless for at least 27 weeks, the juncture when unemployment insurance benefits end for most recipients. That is about twice the level of long-term unemployment before the 2001 recession.
The problem is ensnaring a broader swath of workers than before. Once concentrated among manufacturing workers and those with little work history, education or skills, long-term unemployment is growing most rapidly among white-collar and college-educated workers with long work experience, studies have found, making the problem difficult for policymakers to address even as it grows more urgent.

Damn straight, Fred. Universities, too. It also helps, I think, to live in a state that has black people in it.
Of course, you don’t make as much money being a civil servant as you do in the private sector. But then, they’re much less likely to outsource my hospital to India. They just import the docs over from India instead.
Historical narratives matter. That’s why conservatives are still writing books denouncing F.D.R. and the New Deal; they understand that the way Americans perceive bygone eras, even eras from the seemingly distant past, affects politics today.
And it’s also why the furor over Barack Obama’s praise for Ronald Reagan is not, as some think, overblown. The fact is that how we talk about the Reagan era still matters immensely for American politics.

Garlic ‘beats hospital superbug’
Allicin occurs naturally in garlic
The ingredient which gives garlic its distinctive smell is the latest weapon in the battle to beat the hospital “superbug” MRSA.
But Big Pharma can’t patent garlic, so we’ll never see this used in U.S. hospitals or medical practice no matter how many studies confirm its effectiveness & lack of side effects (other than pungent odor — but not as pungent as a fetid festering infected wound). They’ll just keep poisoning people with Vancomycin & Gentamycin & all the other shit that completely wipes people out & causes multiple secondary conditions because of immune suppression, thus creating a need for more drugs to treat those conditions. :growl: :rant1: :fustrate: :slap:
I have always believed in the infection fighting qualities of garlic. It is also a useful thing to add to dog food. After all, garlic smells better than ordinary dog breath.
:yippee:  That’s why I use garlic … plus YUM in so many things. :fist: A!I!V! :fist: 😉 I NEED to Make ( :omg: )

Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani is trailing in the race for the Republican presidential nomination even on his home turf of New York state, a new poll showed on Monday.
The WNBC/Marist poll ahead of the February 5 primaries in New York showed 34 percent of registered Republicans support John McCain, compared to 23 percent for Giuliani. Among Republicans likely to vote, McCain kept his 34 percent support, while Giuliani was tied in second place with Mitt Romney at 19 percent.
Poor Rudy, I’ll bet first lady in waiting, Judith, is none too happy with him. Perhaps she, like the voters, is getting to like him less the more she knows him.

It’s about time for Rudy to trade for a new wife anyway. Maybe one of those rich blue-blood widows down in Boca, since he’s spending so much time in Florida lately.
McCain is now running ads in Florida as of today, so now it’s him, Willard and 9iu11ani. I’m guessing Fuckabee can’t afford to, which breaks my heart as you can imagine.
John Edwards is on Letterman Tuesday night. Maybe he’ll do a Top 10 list: “Top 10 ways the MSM are trying to marginalize my campaign.”
Fathead Newman is sitting in with the band, for those of you who like some nice, funky R&B sax.

I think he and Katherine Harris would be the ultimate power couple. Maybe even a power trio.
Dear Warshington Post,
As a Democrat I don’t see a single decent presidential candidate running. From either party. The best man for the job – Governor Richardson -already dropped out. At the moment the Democratic candidates are embarrassing themselves and their party. I can’t trust Hillary. Obama doesn’t have enough experience. Edwards is better than both of them but doesn’t have across-the-board support from the party. As things stand I expect to see a fractured party as a result of all the in-fighting.
The Republicans don’t have a single viable candidate running. Huckabee wants to change the Constitution to the Ten Commandments while in a party that panders to both and actually supports neither. Romney is too wacky. Guilliani is about as corrupt as they come. Thompson can’t decide if he’s a politician or an actor, and is doing neither very well.
The real losers in all this will be the American people. Again. Unfortunately someone in all this mess will actually win, take office and probably run roughshod over the American people. Why not, its traditional Presidential behavior since Nixon.
Where’s Pat Paulsen when we need him?
Hey, I’d totally take the NY snow to this evil MN cold. :cold: UGH.

It is :cold: :cold: :cold: than hell here — Snow has stayed North of the Thruway. Oswego County getting hammered again. I really feel bad for those folks == 3 + feet of snow in a day is no fun.
I’ll be seeing plenty of busted bones in :slap: :reaper: Hospital Land :reaper: :slap: because people fall off roofs & shit trying to keep their roofs from collapsing from the weight of the snow. Plenty of those folks don’t have insurance, either, and end up in pretty shitty situations what with not being able to work on top of not having insurance to pay for their medical bills.
This is not a good country to live in these days. :growl: :rant1:
I am not a sports fan like PJ. I don’t understand the emotions of this gladiator stuff.
We’re watching Syracuse & Georgetown basketball — We saw Jim Boeheim on Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me a couple of years ago when they had the show in Syracuse, so I recognized him — plus I saw him walking into my hospital a couple of years ago —
Uh, Oh — Georgetown just won — PJ is not a happy camper & the expletives are 😮 😮 😮
What gladiator stuff? It’s basketball. Not really hard to understand. If SU wins, it’s a good thing. If SU beats Georgetown, it’s even better. If they beat Georgetown at Georgetown, it’s even more better. In fact, it makes it just a little bit easier to think about having to get up and go to work tomorrow.
If they lose, well, then everything that sucks, sucks just a little bit more.
That’s all. Nothing earth-shattering, nothing life changing. Just the difference between things not sucking quite as much, and things sucking a little bit more.
So, tonight, everything sucks just a little bit more.
So, I’ve got a math problem that’s been driving me bonkers all weekend, and I need a little bit of help. It’s sort of a tough nut to crack.
The problem:
A gift store is making a mixture of almonds, pecans, and peanuts, which cost $3.50 per pound, $4.00 per pound, and $2.00 per pound, respectively. The store keeper wants to make 20 pounds of a mix to sell at $2.70 per pound. The number of pounds of peanuts is to be three times the number of pounds of pecans. Find the number of pounds of each to be used in the mixture.
I need help setting up the system of equations with three variables. I think I’ve got 2 so far but I don’t see the third one.
RAGING Granny. He Might like to :hubba: the pain away :rofl2: … :rofl2: :rofl2: …. but I have got to stay awake 🙄 :tap: A!I!V! He there :omg: :rofl2: 😉 :rofl2: A!I!V!
Here’s the 2 equations that I have so far.
X= Almonds
Y= Pecans
Z= Peanuts
X+Y+3Z= 20.00 lbs
3.50(X)+4.00(Y)+2.00(Z)= $54.00
Ugh! Word problems! :smack: :fustrate:
That looks good Travis. :yippee:
OMG! I dunno Travis! I’m not in the math “zone”
Maybe the third equation is just 3z – y= 0?
😡 Driving me nuts!
Nope. Don’t think that’s right. Maybe z- 3y= 0?
I got an e-mail saying Earl Palmer had passed. Then I got one saying he was in the hospital but still alive. Hope he will be OK. If you are the best drummer in NOLa, that is really saying something.
Travis, it would not be #47 …
example: 1. one, you have to get rid of the 50 cents so one could 3.50 X (2) = 7.00
+ 4 X 1 (as an example) = 4
can’t get to 54 so one has to try again…
TIMES is always first, the add or subtract ….
3z – y= 0? 3 x 2 – 6 = 0
Have you been dealing with ZEROs?
There is a FORMULA!
It just takes TIME & Contemplation. Thought to do these…. I would have to go back to books to figure … it has been a wee bit of passed time……
GOOD LUCK!
There are brilliant folk here 😉 Not Me in Math, although Fun & :fustrate: ……………. Lewis Carrol was a Mathematician. :pirate: :yippee:  :fist: A!I!V! :fist:
Uh..
Now Ya lost me :rofl2: GOOD LUCK in you Figures 😉 A!I!V!
Crap! I’m too :alc: I had to quit everything when I was going to engineering school. That’s what I like about art, is that it helps to be :alc: and :bong: and :jesus: and :fustrate:
Now, I think I goofed up at the beginning.
The equations should be something like this
X+3Y+Z= 20 lbs
3.50(X)+4.00(Y)+2.00(Z)= $54.00
3Y-Z=0
Sorry for ruining the blog with this
It’s just one big fucking mess!
OMG, Travis, I once spent a total of 8 hours on one problem! :omg:
:tommygun: HEY TRAVIS :tommygun:
X+Y+Z=20
THE OTHERS ARE RIGHT
Hot Damn! I think I got it now. Y= 4 …still working on it
Z = 12
So X and Y must be 4.
X= Almonds Y= Pecans Z= Peanuts
Equation-1 [X+Y+Z=20]
Equation-2 [3.50(X)+4.00(Y)+2.00(Z)= $54.00]
Equation-3 [3Y-Z=0]
-3.5(E-1) [-3.50(X)-3.50(Y)-3.50(Z)= -70]
+
(E-2) [3.50(X)+4.00(Y)+2.00(Z)= $54.00]
———————————————————
0.5(Y)-1.50(Z)= -16.00
and by substitution, Z equals 3Y.
0.5(Y)-1.50(3Y)= -16.00
0.5(Y)-4.5(Y)= -16.00
———————————————————
-4.0(Y)= -16.00
Y= 4
Thanks Wan! :pup:
Is it too late to say Hi?
Hey Andy!
Before you go to bed put on your life vest it looks like the SBR Titanic is going to go down at around 9:30 am easter time 😮 😮
Blub… blub … blub :penguin:
I came up with
1# almonds-3.50
1#pecans=4.00
3#peanuts=6.00
5#=13.5
13.5/5=2.70
2.70*20=54.00
The second Republican great depression will of course be the democrats fault.. Art Lipprick told me so and he is always right… not to mention Gunny Bob :tommygun: :tommygun:
Bush must have yelled START THE PUMPS a bit to loudly.. :tap: :tap: :reaper: :reaper:
What do you mean, Andy?
Does 5 = 13.5 for large values of 5 or what ?? :omg: :billcat: :tap: :tap:
Oh, I see what you mean. I don’t know how you set up the equations, though.
   Got to go blog with ya all in the mourning
5 pounds of almonds, peanuts and pecans is $13.50
3 times the amount pecans is equal to 1 unit of peanuts.
There’s where the 3Y-Z=0 came from.
I’ve beat this problem to death :reaper:
Right, so 13.50/5=2.70/pound
3.5(almonds)+4(pecans)+3(2(peanuts))=X
substitute 1 for the nuts
3.5+4+6=13.50
But 3Y-Z=0
3(4)-6 doesn’t equal 0
Well now you’re just confusing me, between this and a computer that refuses to let me fix it I think I’m going to bed.
Goodnight. I still have to finish up some chem.
are you nuts? :tap: :knit2: :rofl2:
Me or Trav?
Travis, I need some help with a granola mix I am thinking of taking to market.
Travis there a FORMULA in your book … I just forget how, but I I guess time to relearn :smack: :tap: A!I!V! Hello, Out There.. 🙄
