Snow snow go away come again another day :cold: :cold: :yuck: :crap:
So far we keep getting just enough to make getting to work a game of bumper cars but not enough to have a snow day . :tap: :tap:
4 AM and y’all are up and rocking!
i need more :joe:
Good morning. :joe: :joe:
Today I have to go to yet another stupid, boring conference. At least I’ll get time to do the crossword.
Fred, in NYC the school year must be at least 180 days. In order to accommodate emergencies, such as snow, 190 days or more are scheduled. But, we NEVER get a snow day. The snow could be 6 feet high, but the schools stay open.
When I was young, and dumb, I once risked life and limb to get into work only to find that that the majority of teachers were much smarter and had stayed home. The kids came ’cause they walk, so when I arrived I was THE 6th grade teacher and I had 150 kids, in the auditorium, with nothing to do. The kids, of course, found many things to do, including setting a fire.
I’m smarter now. I stay home when the snow’s too high.

Had some really fierce wind here yesterday. More interesting was Buffalo, where wind gusts up to 81 mph were recorded. Lake Erie is relatively shallow, and not frozen over this year (yet). The winds that moved through shoved all (ok, not all, but a lot) of the water in the lake from the west down to the east (“any day now, I shall be released” pops into my head). Lake levels dropped 8.5 feet in Toledo, and rose 9 feet in Buffalo. Here’s a chart showing it.
They continue to get dumped on with snow up just to the north of us, but we, rather embarrassingly, have nothing on the ground (a little on the nippy side, though). We’re at about 66″ for the season so far (which is about average), but, other than a couple of good snows, we haven’t had much. Last year we only had about 40″ at this time, and we wound up with 140″, so you never know what February and March (and April – hell, even May, sometimes) will bring.
The Today Show had a story on the cold snap.
I kid you not, a reporter showed a list of signs that you are getting cold:
…
2. Shivering
…
I did not know this until now, Mark Riley quit the WLIB gig in NYC at the beginning of this month. Replaced with a guy that sounds a bit like Riley.
i grew up in Lorain Ohio.
if you skate far out on the lake you see pressure ridges that push up thin sparkling plates of ice that are prismatic and as big as houses. beautiful color difraction in the sun.
Thom Hartmann says I shouldn’t vote for Edwards next week.
Screw you, Thom. :nana:
Jethro’s girlfriend shot herself.
Yeah, so what’s up with that? You can still vote for Edwards?
There’s no way they could get his name off the ballot this fast, I don’t think.
Shit, not sure what to do now. Guess I’ll vote for Obama unless there is some advantage to voting for Edwards.
I feel like it’s a choice between Kang and Kodos.
:rofl2:
I attended the Delaware County Democratic convention and caucus last night and there was a straw vote for prez. Even though Edwards was out he still got about 30 votes HRC BHO each got about 60 I think, but the feeling among the committee members was that the Edwards supporters are going with Obama. I’ll probabbly do the same but I’ll be holding my nose.
Pioneering Blackwater Protesters Given Secret Trial and Criminal Conviction
Last week in Currituck County, N.C., Superior Court Judge Russell Duke presided over the final step in securing the first criminal conviction stemming from the deadly actions of Blackwater Worldwide, the Bush administration’s favorite mercenary company. Lest you think you missed some earth-shifting, breaking news, hold on a moment. The “criminals” in question were not the armed thugs who gunned down 17 Iraqi civilians and wounded more than 20 others in Baghdad’s Nisour Square last September. They were seven nonviolent activists who had the audacity to stage a demonstration at the gates of Blackwater’s 7,000-acre private military base in North Carolina to protest the actions of mercenaries acting with impunity — and apparent immunity — in their names and those of every American.
Oh, Goody — fun for the ride to Hospital Land tomorrow morning. :cold:
🙁 very sad about Edwards. I feel at such loose ends about this country. 🙁
Well, gotta bundle up & get Siggy out to the park :pup: Poor boy was all alone yesterday & didn’t get to go anywhere. :cold: :cold: :penguin:
That’s ‘cuz I had to fix the kitchen faucet after work. BTW, don’t let those Moen commercials fool ya; the damn thing is probably only a year or two old, and it goddamn split along the spout (if that’s what you call it). And neither duct tape nor electrical tape fixed it (not for long, anyways).
Split along the spout. I like that.
“He’s a nice fella, but a little split along the spout, if you know what I mean.”
Duct tape and electricians tape don’t “fix” things they merly delay the inevitable. :reaper: :reaper:
So Mark Green is Heartmans political analyst .. could he not stoop any lower .. ?? :rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2:
Oscar Peterson’s Goodbye is beautiful.
:gate: Susan Joy :gate:
Thanks everyone for expressing your loving sentiments towards Susan Joy. I had no idea she was not going to make it until Tuesday. She died on Wednesday. There is a graveside service today on Long Island. The Saturday New York Times will have Susan’s obituary. I am not doing very well emotionally, to say the least.
Hey, NR. Thanks for stopping by. I’ve been thinking about you a lot in the last 24. Take care of yourself.
:knit:
Nicky Rose  We’ll keep an eye out for you here
Our prayers are with you NR. :gate: :yinyang:
Nicki Rose ,,, Wonderful for flying by 😥 🙂 … :peace:
I don’t believe it, Farmerkat is back!
It must have been my Today Show rip that lured her back to the blog.
in any case, wb, :cat:
And then I see the bad news on Susan Joy.
Sorry to hear that NickiRose and everyone.
Good to see you Nicki, so sorry for the loss of your good friend. Don’t be a stranger, okay. :gate:
ya Nicki Rose,
thought a lot about you two since i heard about Suzie Joy.
burned some sweet grass while i did.
Not sure how into this I am going to be. Wolf is already f*n it up
Wolf? :pup: :pirate: :yippee: :fist: A!I!V!Wolf Puck? Jambalaya?
I don’t even want to waste my time to confirm the utter horseshit I just heard from Randi about people who still vote for Edwards. I think it was a flat out lie.
Is utter horseshit a mixed metaphor or an oxymoron or something else entirely?
Wow, the Big Dog just lashed out at 9/11 truth people because of a heckler. He should just keep his mouth shut, really. :smack: :smack:
vern- I hope you were able to overcome your doubts. Good questions are being asked, good answers are forthcoming. Maybe it’s the wine :alc: but now that it’s down to these two, I’m okay either way.
NickyRose- we’ll always keep the :menorah: on for you …….,
when you’re ready :peace:
What did Randi say about people still voting for Edwards?
I think she said that their votes would just be thrown in the trash and only active candidate votes would now be counted.
I’m still watching and they both are good and they really seem to be trying not to go neg on each other. I have always liked the LATimes guy. CNN is loving the star shots. Hit me with another Annie Hall and Meathead.
Well, She’s probably right. Hate to say it. I think that Obama has a better chance of winning against a Rethug.
I LOVE  What Leo Lion Said. Chill Mike Malloy. :fist: A!I!V! Speak on Bill
My point is she is saying their votes are literally discarded and not even counted. You are going to make me find it and listen again. I could easily be wrong but I think if Edwards got the votes, he would still get the delegates in many states.
I’m voting O’Bama now but if she said that she is more full of it than I thought.
I don’t think so I will say this and let you all talk to your beliefs.
Hillary President &
EdwardsOBAMA ..VP…then One can judge his voting.
She has ALWAYS VOTED MORE LIBERAL THAN BILL. WE THE PEOPLE Can MOVE HER, not Leo Obama.
BTW she is a first decan Scorpio (therefore has the basis of Truth-Libra )and Obama is a Leo, like Bill.A!I!V! Whatever … I vote Dem…I am still waiting for GORE &/or Edwards get Drafted Big Dem Meet… :fist: A!I!V!
I think vern is right- it’s only the thugs that are winner take all. Edwards will get a purportionate share.
The only question that hasn’t been asked is the shitpile in the room-
“the idea of an imperial presidentcy” :tommygun: :fu: :slap: :tap:
You say Liberal and I say Librul.
It’s a wash, O’Bama is more electable as Kp said.
Hill is already running against mcinsane :yippee:
Anticipating and preemptively cutting the throats of the thugs is an important strategy.
I see Hill and ‘Bama P and VP or the other way around as
UNBEATABLE
I can’t see HRC going VP and maybe not O”Bama. Did I already say that somewhere?
Earlier today I was looking for some representation of “Salt of the Earth’ by the Stones for the ‘choice of cancer or polio’ lyric but did not find anything worthy. Great song, sadly too topical all these years later.
I am 55. Someone’s channeling the MSBlog.
Salt of the Earth
Obama is MORE Rethug than Clinton. He Proseltyze to cross over to the Lying Rethugs … and as again since I was 13 I am seeing the masses being led by a nose-ring and again ALL are being misled. My Peace I guess is I HAVE ALWAYS VOTED CORRECTLY…even for Carter whilst many like you laughed and later I see many accept Bush. I yelled in 2000c.e. but “The Masses” like now “Has The (Fake) Ticket” — and tried to call the JERK :jerk: a :jerk: and vote incorrectly. Maybe at least Obama can be forced, but I do not think so. Obama walks with Evangelical Ministers…and speaks of Reagan. So that makes me uneasy! I like You but Do You Like Me?
Well, I could go through a list of what bugs me about both of them and I see Sen Clinton as more likely to be divisive and I see Obama as being more uniting. And it doesn’t have so much to do with Hillary herself, it’s that she carries a lot of baggage from Bill and what the Rethugs put on her during that time and the fact that people hang on to their impressions of people. It comes down to electibility and I see McCain, possibly, beating Clinton. I think Obama could beat McCain. Because, remember, McCain made a deal with the Devil hisself, he’ll be the nominee.
If O’bama or Hillary wins, I will be very happy. I could have been happier but it never seems to quite work out that way. I am even to the point that I would almost be thankful that McCain makes it. It could be so much worse. I guess. Why so discouraged so early? I dunno.
Kp, let us know about your wild Super Bowl adventures if there is such a thing.
Superbowl?? I’ll be avoiding the streets this weekend. :dancers:
Druid- so that leaves you with ……..,? 😯
NR good to see you stop by.. so sorry for your loss../|\ :menorah: :rabbi:
We got a visit from the commander and dork today .. Hopefully Hickenlooper will get the water trucks out with the disinfectant after it gets dark.. :tap: :tap:
Obama stopped traffic yesterday with all the people trying to listen to him speak.. B* just stopped traffic … :jerk: :growl: :yuck: :barf: :crap: :paranoid: :paranoid: you know how it is with royalty.. :tap: :tap:
just a little partial clip of rage from Marc Morford to tuck you into bed for the night
“Oh sweet Jesus, someone actually counted.
Two independent nonprofit journalism groups apparently took enough laudanum and beat down whatever healthy sense of human decency they had in order to plunge straight into that quivering mountain of incompetence that is the official record of the Bush administration, all the false quotes and all the lie-strewn press conferences and all the squinty-eyed fabrications from Dubya, Colin Powell, Condi and Cheney and Rummy et al, that took place in the two years after September 11, 2001, and added them all up.
But there is something truly special about Bush 43. Something so unique, so poisonous and strange that historians are busy right this minute rewriting not only their books, but their entire way of thinking about how we measure and interpret political malfeasance…….”
“It has to do with matters of scale. It has to do with audacity, with sheer recklessness, with BushCo’s stunning contempt for all national and international law and historic precedent and human decency. It is the sense that, at bare minimum, the most significant lies told by previous administrations were, by and large, not massive, calculated stabs to the very heart and infrastructure of the entire nation. They were not designed, as Bush’s clearly were, specifically to pervert the entire American experiment, to violently shift us from peace-promoting and defense-oriented protector to an arrogant, insular, pre-emptive attacker, widely loathed and mistrusted worldwide.
See, BushCo rewrote the formulas. From WMD to tax cuts, AmeriCorp to Iraq, this administration has officially reset the bar to an all-time low as to what’s possible for a truly dreadful, inept president to get away with without some sort of significant repercussion, impeachment, numerous lightning bolts raining down on his soft little monkey skull. Sure, it took leveraging America’s most brutal and heartbreaking tragedy in a generation to pull it off, but does the fact the administration exploited 9/11 like a pedophile exploits a child take anything away from the astonishing depth of the abuse?
But maybe you still argue that, even at a whopping 935 calculated lies told specifically to lead us into a bogus war, it makes no difference. Maybe you argue that a lie is a lie and Bush is no better or worse than Clinton or Reagan and here is a giant cocktail of jaded, raging apathy. Let’s all chug it together, shall we?….”
:tommygun: 😡 👿
Rethugs are 👿 cockroaches call Orkin.. :reaper: :reaper:
The soap opera that is our so called government is just a show of puppets put on by the “they” for the entertainment of IDIOT MORONS it makes no difference how many people call their congressman he/she does more or less what ever he/she wants to for two or six years. ..its broken.. elections can’t or won’t fix it .. maybe Putin or Hu will have to push the big red reset button before anything changes .. :tap: :tap: :reaper: :reaper:
