The only good thing about being down for the count for a few days last week was that, for the better part of three days, I didn’t look at any news, politics, or blog sites. I can’t say as I missed it a bit (which makes me wonder why I generally can’t stay away from the shit when I’m feeling halfway alive).
As Bill Maher said in his “new rules” on Friday night, talking about the ‘major’ blogs like Daily Kos, the Internet “enables pompous blowhards to connect with other pompous blowhards in a vast circle jerk of pomposity.” That’s pretty much how I feel these days when I try to struggle through the self-important snippet ramblings of people like Kos and Atrios and their “front page” stand-ins (and most of their “diary” writers and commenters – at least those deigned “important” enough to be “featured”), and why I rarely visit those sites anymore (haven’t really in a while, and have been thinking about taking down the links to their sites here – not that they’d even notice, of course).
Speaking of vast circle jerks of pomposity, it’s Sunday again, and time for another round of the teevee equivalent of the very important blogs.
On Press the Meat, Timmy Potatohead hits us with yet another round of surrogate vs. surrogate (it’s getting to be like a boring version of Mad Magazine; kind of a parody of a parody, except the pompous windbags that take part don’t get that the joke is on them). This week, it’s Obama supporter Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) vs. Clinton supporter Gov. Ed Rendell (D-PA). Then, in honor of Marin Luther King Jr., Timmuh allows black people onto the set, as Tom Brokaw (hey, not all black people; that’d be too scary), Michael Eric Dyson and Andrew Young look back on King, and his crazy notions of peace, economic justice, and racial equality (thank god we stamped them out).
At CBS’s Faze the Nation, Bush booby Bobby Schieffer once again packs a lot into a half hour, with Howard Dean, WaPost National Editor Rajiv Chandrasekaran, Nancy Youssef, Pentagon Correspondent for McClatchy, and CBS News’ Lara Logan (who would make a much better nightly anchor than the twit they have now, but then Logan is an actual reporter).
Fux News Sunday goes “On the Trail” with straight-talkin’ Maverick John McCain, and then Weaselface Wallace chats with John Kerry on General Betrayus Petraeus’ upcoming bullshitting briefing of Congress on Iraq, and Fux’s “power player of the week” is “Newseum’s” Executive Director Joe Urschel. Of course, there will also be the usual fuxheads for your viewing pleasure.
Over at the Goebbels network, George Snufalufagus has l’il Lindsey Graham and Jim Webb, and then George will ask Howard Dean how long this goddamn Democratic nomination thingie is gonna keep going on (you know, if they wanted it all to be over already, why the fuck did they even bother to have primaries after February; I mean, fer chrissakes, can’t we at least get through all the voting, first). Then, at the roundtable, it’s the Nation’s Katrina vanden Heuvel, Republican douche bag (yeah, that’s redundant, I know) Dan Senor, and 2 spokes in the axis of drivel are reunited, with Cokie “the hag” Roberts and George :jerk: Will.
On CNN’s Late Emission, Unterseekommandantkapitän Wolf Blitzer gets us back on the surrogate track, with Jack Murtha (he’s the Clinton one) and Christopher Dodd (he’d be the Obama guy). Plus there’s Dick Durbin, and crazyass cracker John “cornhole” Cornyn from the great state of Texas. Wolfie rounds out the show with Rev. David O’Connell, President of Catholic University. Hey, Dave, your fucking dorms suck! I hope you have to spend a summer sweating to death on one of those narrow vinyl mattresses (you’ll be lucky to pack a single altar boy in there with ya), staring at those crappy cream-colored cinder block walls. Not that I’m bitter, mind you.
Later, on 60 Minutes, Steve Kroft gives airtime to that lying piece of shit, Doug Feith. Lesley Stahl does a story on China’s government-controlled $200-billion sovereign wealth fund. And Bob Simon reports on how NASA is going to send people to the moon again (where the radiation will probably kill them, but, hey, nothing’s perfect).
Then it’s a new episode of Tracy Ullman’s State of the Nation, and everybody’s favorite twisted, perverted, conniving, and downright evil ruling family – no, not the Bush crime family – the Tudors, of course.
Back to work tomorrow, but so what? The birds are chirping in the morning again. Granny gets to spend quality time with her mommy and daddy today, whilst I get to spend quality time with my laundry (and my doggies). I think I win – even without the doggies. Have a good Sunday, y’all.
I am so high, I can heaven.
I am so high, I can heaven.
Whoa, But heaven, no, heaven don’t hear me.

Well Iguess they finally got his guns.
I always thought he was a pretty shitty actor.
Thirty pages into a memorandum discussing the legal boundaries of military interrogations in 2003, senior Justice Department lawyer John C. Yoo tackled a question not often asked by American policymakers: Could the president, if he desired, have a prisoner’s eyes poked out?
Or, for that matter, could he have “scalding water, corrosive acid or caustic substance” thrown on a prisoner? How about slitting an ear, nose or lip, or disabling a tongue or limb? What about biting?
These assaults are all mentioned in a U.S. law prohibiting maiming, which Yoo parsed as he clarified the legal outer limits of what could be done to terrorism suspects as detained by U.S. authorities. The specific prohibitions, he said, depended on the circumstances or which “body part the statute specifies.”
But none of that matters in a time of war, Yoo also said, because federal laws prohibiting assault, maiming and other crimes by military interrogators are trumped by the president’s ultimate authority as commander in chief.

Crap! Andy beat me to it!
Hollywood legend Charlton Heston dies at 84when authorities were finally able to pry his gun out of his cold, dead fingers.
That’s OK. The important thing is that Charlton Heston beat you to it.
We need a Morning Rememberance!
I always thought he was a pretty shitty actor.
I actually like his larger than life portrayals.
And who doesn’t love this.
Or this
What the hell, one more.
This is my fave
So which is better, “Omega Man” or “I am Legend”?
I was wondering WFT was going on with Charlton Heston. I was watching Snuffelupagus to see Katrina :hot: :hot: :hubba: and when they rolled out the Memoriam feature, he was the first one up.
Guess we can pry that gun out of his cold dead hands now.
Forgot to mention it on yesterday’s thread, but did Rachel not kick serious ASS on Countdown Friday night? KO may have found a permanent guest host.
Guess we can pry that gun out of his cold dead hands now.

Hey Kev, I already said that. Numbah 13. :smack:
I haven’t seen Legend yet. I’m too broke to go to the movies. :smack:
Vernon, Carolina may have died an epic death, at least historically in NCAA folklore, but my pick to win it all is still playing. Memphis is still the only one-loss team in the country.
Meanwhile, the Nationals time at the pinnacle of baseball is over and done for this year. After being the only 3-0 team in MLB they are headed for sub-500 with today’s game in St. Louis. Go Cubbies!
I had that 102 temperature thing last month. First bout of the real flu in 10 years. Get well soonest.
Now, it is time for me to plan my vacation – 30th Annual Gilroy Garlic Festival the last weekend in July. Garlic beer is an acquired taste but the garlic ice cream is okay once every four or five years.
NC, I knew it was over for them when I was rooting for them. They did a remarkable job just getting back to 4 points down.
I’m just stuck with the Giants and that is going to be just awful.
Vacationing at the Gilroy Garlic Festival. Hmmm. I have never gone. Something about the 102 degree heat and the 102K+ crowds. I am a big garlic fan, however. Ever see this movie some friends of mine made years ago?
Have you ever eaten Garlic Ice Cream to do honour to the Garlic and The Garlic Festival. :rofl2: Kiss Kiss hahaha :rofl2: :omg: A!I!
 Pant, I have been off and on however mostly frozen :omg: ….. :fustrate: does videos or DVDs plus running other programs (or doing other things) also freeze this horrid computer :spank: :growl: A!I! But I see SBlueHeron did not re-appear hmmmmm :tap:
I am here..it is clear to me now this wasn’t the flu.
Some deep, insidious infection that will force me to go to the doctor soon… I am trying to tie up some loose ends. File a tax extension.
The fever is now 98 so that is ok but my head still hurts :smack: and I am scared. Yeah- scared enough to go to the doctor.
Sorry, NC Blue, I didn’t find my glasses to “focus” on you saying Ice Cream :rofl2: :rofl2: ( I never had Garlic Ice Cream but drove by the :hot: (heat wise) fair a zillion times in my life.) Memories……… :hot: (hehehe :hubba: )
Vernon, basketball is so last night.
One can smell garlic for miles heading south on 101 from San Jose. You really get it about Morgan Hill. Which reminds me, Morgan Hill has a mushroom festival that is all good eating, too.
Gilroy boasts 100,000+ for the festival, but that is over a three-day period. We usually get there early on Saturday, stay for lunch then head back over the hill to Cannery Row for a cooling off period and dinner if we are still hungry before heading back
hometo the hotel. It was convenient when I lived in Santa Cruz. Before I get on Blue’s Back ….. :tap:
I just wanted to say Andy aka Aquaman, Kristapea, & Kevin M — yea, yea Omega Man was Cool 8) at the time … … The Only Show Legend I know is that Ridley Scott film with Mia Sara and Tim Curry and …….. wait for it ….. wait 4 it …… wfi ……….. 40: Staring
Tom Cruise :rofl2: :rofl2: :dancers: :pirate: :yippee:
I was going to say the ONLY Cannery I know has been turned into a “normal” 8) shoppe and … and … oh and … in My/Our/The City, then to where friends live now — , now in Mtns — I tease and say if one can call them that :rofl2: :rofl2: 😉
Now I will never see ever again The Garlic Festival since I will not leave where I was born … at the coast. (Way too many years into the North East-ish California & rattlesnakes.)
Anyone who cares

Let us know if Sam says anything revealing. I usually save his show for work on Mondays, and I have no sound on my laptop anyway, so I’d have to be tied to one of desktops.
Forget the blow by blow. I’ll drop something after the show.
Aw, I want my blow.
Iraqi troops backed by U.S. forces battled gunmen in Baghdad’s Sadr City on Sunday, a return to heavy fighting in the capital after Shi’ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr pulled his militiamen off the streets a week ago.
Hospital sources said at least 25 Iraqis were killed in the clashes and 98 wounded.
Rocket or mortar attacks killed three U.S. soldiers and wounded 31 of them in Baghdad, among the biggest tolls of injured troops faced by the Americans in months. That included two U.S. soldiers killed and 17 wounded in a strike on the fortified Green Zone government and diplomatic compound.
A fourth U.S. soldier was killed by a roadside bomb in Diyala province to the north and a fifth died in an attack in eastern Baghdad in which the military gave no further details.

This is all I’ve got.
For now RR is still on suspension. Sam can’t do Randi tomorrow since he is already on Malloy. Too bad Maron can’t take that slot. Unless the issues are resolved he will be subbing for RR the rest of the week. That along with Maron’s pending trip to the Land Down Under leaves M v. S in limbo for now. However, Marc will be on Malloy Tuesday -Thursday this week. Werbe does Malloy on Friday.
Seder is pretty disgruntled. You can tell that he is still being careful but he says he will not go on indefinitely for RR. I don’t know how he managed so long. Must be why he’s a yeller. :holla: :omg:
Stuttering tones
Penn out. Condi in?
