I managed to do something to my shoulder. What, I don’t know. I think it’s tendinitis and bursitis. Either that, or somebody snuck in and chiseled off the head of my humerus (which is most definitely not funny). Either way, it hurts like hell, and it’s all I can do to hold my arm up, let alone type (hell, it takes 20 minutes just to get a shirt on). This gettin’ old shit is great, aint it?
Just wait til your sciatic nerve gets pinched which starts with pain deep in your ass, shooting down your leg and your toes start getting numb- talk about fun :tap:
Sounds good. I fractured my T-10 vertebra in a rollover when I was about 26, so I already know some of the joys of chronic back pain, but I’m always excited to experience something new.
I did a running forward somersault landing on my neck when I was 12 and fractured my 3rd and 4th vertabrae. Now I’ve got scar tissue bulging out a wee bit. not to start a contest of old fart oneupsmanship I just can’t seem to find anyone who wants to hear me bitch for some reason :billcat:
Drugs, PJ, painkilling, anti-inflammatory drugs and a good reason to stay home. Feel better.
I try to avoid drugs (except for recreational purposes, of course).
PJ, You are going to hate me but you have to exercise ,,, AT LEAST MAJOR STRETCHING … Tia Chi is a grand ACTIVE & moving meditation …. DUMB WEIGHTS is truly all you need … yet “some” for full lower workout. Yoga is to quiet and it may take a bit to “flow” through full course…. I recommend using a DVD on your FULL screen 😉 and have fun. Tia Chi for both and you can even joke and eventually you will fall into it. Tia Chi ya need nothing …. I should get back into it……
I can not express this enough…..you should get to 40-60min …but just start moving. ….even marching in one place-ish
IF YOUR BACK has problems … STRETCH/EXERCISE is a MUST! …I SWEAR your back will feel better. There are great exercises for the back but you probably had those forever. ;)I know PJ you probably get that from “wifey” ;).
Go see a doctor. Get some Tylenol 3 or Vicodin. It’s not recreational when you’re in pain.
I quit doing Pilates a few months ago but have been looking for some motivation to start again. Seriously, PJ, buy a tape or DVD and you can do this in the privacy of your home without fear of ridicule from other humans. Believe me, that’s the only way I would do it.
Ridicule from the dogs, that I can’t help you with. :pup:
Hey Tweety, I had apple juice again today. Still no coffee. Elitists rule! And you and your man-crush McInsane still suck it.
:fu:
I suppose I could save them until I feel better.
Maybe I can find an XBOX 360 game instead.
Maybe too much  is what gave you your pain in the first place?

Could be the racing wheel I just got. More likely, I slept on it funny and tweaked it.
Screwed my back up when a fool pulled a chair out as a joke. I understand the sciatic nerve dynamics all too well.
The best pain medicine comes in a 12-ounce brown bottle sold in 6, 12, 18, 24 and now 30 count cardboard containers. I prefer the 8-12 percent solutions with the alpha designation of A-L-E.
Alternatives come in .750 and 1.5 litres.
Do not operate machinery after ingesting. Do not mix with Tylenol.
Try a Thermapedic pillow (one that suppports the natural arch of your neck and head) and a pillow between your knees and hands while sleeping on your side. It’ll keep your spine lined up and relieve the strain on your shoulder.
“That’ll be 25 cents” sez Dr Norton 😆
Yeah, I tend to sleep on the shoulder that hurts. So, I made a point of staying on my back last night. A big improvement.
I also have been exercising, doing 12oz curls as much as possible, generally of the IPA variety.
If you sleep flat on your back a pillow beneath the knees works very well, too.
Make sure you have a good chair with lumbar support.
Forget about ballgames in the bleachers for a while.
Imperial IPA or regular, standard issue IPA?
Barley Wine is a fine compromise. Over the weekend I went through an old pile of Washington Posts and found an article about “cellaring” beer from January (I think). It might still be in the recycle bin. I should pull it out and see if I can find a link to it.
Imperial IPA sometimes, regular IPA most of the time. I’m partial to Middle Ages Brewery ImPaled Ale. They also make a nice Barley Wine (called Druid Fluid, in fact), but I tend to down large volumes of whatever liquid I have handy (be it water, beer, or the hard stuff – which is why I no longer drink the hard stuff), so I try to pass on that. Saranac (over in Utica) also makes a decent IPA and an Imperial IPA.
For Belgian style, there’s a brewery nearby in Cooperstown called Ommegang that make some nice stuff. They do a batch of their Three Philosophers Ale that is “cave aged” for a year, 40 meters below ground at Howe’s Caverns (zero light, constant 52 degrees) that is quite exceptional.
Were you away from “the curls” to recently start or have you driven further or longer or doing extra typing/writing or working using that arm? Just to narrow … good luck …
I use only and have the Regular … now that beer sounds AWESOMEEEEE … wow “cave aged” 8)
Oh, I don’t know. Shit happens. I’ve had joint problems off and on for a while. Usually my knees will act up, depending on the weather, but I’ve had shoulder problems, too. They go away. This one was pretty bad yesterday. Not as bad today. Maybe the promised warm weather will help. Supposed to be mid sixties here today, and in the seventies for a few days. That’ll be weird.
Some more unwelcome advice. The sleep flat on your back with pillow under the knees is a good bit. I’ve been doing that for a few days. Also, I suggest that you get Aspirin with codeine instead of Tylenol. It is probably better for your liver :40: .
I would also recommend a valium or xanax at bedtime to help you really relax and let the muscles release. Maybe even :bong: . Not too much alcohol at bedtime though. That actually works against truly relaxing rest.
Yeah, I’d have to go to Canada for codeine. I stay away from Tylenol and Ibuprofen. Generally try and take nothing stronger than aspirin, but for this particular problem, Naproxen seems to work best (mixed with alcohol, it only makes your stomach bleed, so it’s safe). Don’t have a valium, xanax, or :bong: connection. Would much prefer the :bong: since it’s better for you and much safer, but of course that’s why it’s illegal (can’t patent it).
So, I’ll have to stick with what’s bad for you instead.
hee!
welcome to the club PJ. i get those every 3 months or so, either shoulder.
Pain is my middle name.
“Drugs, PJ, painkilling, anti-inflammatory drugs and a good reason to stay home. Feel better.”
true wisdom.
Actually, sunshine, warm weather, and puppies are a good reason to stay home.
Feeling like crap no matter where you are is a good reason to go to work.
That’s it. The election is over.

Haven’t tried the Ommegang brews yet. Don’t feel that I can afford to feed that habit if I liked it. However, I will give the Middle Ages stuff a try if I can find it.
My every day “house beer” is Mendocino’s Eye of the Hawk <insert link here>. Still too pricy for those of us who remember picking up a six-pack for $1.25 or les, even if it was Bud or Miller back when “light” referred to color, not calories

Thank You V i missed since i have to turn off usually most shows now – even to shows I can barely listen to compared to not listening at all… What happened to my nation? I do have a plan … but (ACTIONS) all is moving too quickly and all too quickly are being taken over when they are offered no other venue save for Obama Kool-Aid then droning on that twisted mantra and then proselytizing the same mantra … O-Whatever 🙄

I have heard the music, seen the show, heard and done the chants — I miss the idea which was AAR & Nova M — but cannot “stomach” nor can endure the lies & :crap: that now is in their “stead”. I think Time for a Tea Party …. (contemplate M)

Today’s APOD is really cool.
Now, can someone explain to my why 13% wholesale inflation, the dollar at a record low valuation against foreign currencies, oil hitting $115 a barrel and $3.49 gasoline in Alexandria, VA, caused the DOW to go up 250 points? Analysts said in December the market was overvalued at 11,000 and here it closes above 12,600. I don’t get it. I just don’t get it.
All I want is a savings account that pays inflation plus 1%. I’ve given up on this 401(k)/IRA scam. Someone else always ends up with the money. Always!
Chop it off! There’s a replacement place not far from you guys. I even set up an account for them a few months back, so the recreational drugs they can’t use, you can! :bong:
Seriously, I hope you heal up…constant pain is no fun, unless you’re really into the whole masochism thing.
Well, I hope we can come out to visit before too long. As long as you don’t mind a couple of :pup: .
NC Blue , in these tempest times it is so nice to see again the rhyme.

For back trouble: PJ, if you’re sleeping on the bad shoulder, the problem is probably from turning that shounder under while you sleep. You want to make sure your shoulder is straight against the bed, which may require 2 pillows. I use a relatively flat under pillow and then a memory foam contour pillow on top. This way the cap of the shounder is against the bad and you’re not “tucking” it.
Also…get a knee pillow. Get the kind that looks like a dog bone. I got mine at CVS; it was 20 bucks and it really helps.
If you have pressure point problems, get a 2″ memory foam topper for your bed. No deeper than that or else you’ll have to wake up every time you turn over.
Pilates is good, but so is yoga for stretching. If you have Dish Network the Yoga for Life show on Veria (channel 9575) is very good for flow yoga. Otherwise, the Gaiam Power Yoga for Flexibility and Power Yoga for Stamina with Rodney Yee are good 25-30 minute flow sequences that are great for getting the spinal fluid flowing around aging backs. When I do a half hour of yoga every day I don’t wake up stiff the next one.
Druid: I know the feeling. I myself have developed an addiction to Clean House on the Style network. :omg:
