No good shit to share this morning. Got a new remote control, which probably doesn’t sound too exciting, except you put in the make and model of all your devices, and it connects to the Internet and programs the thing, so all you have to do is touch ‘play dvd’ on the color touch screen, and it turns on all the correct devices (and turns off whatever’s on that you don’t need). You can even view photos on the thing. Pretty cool. Well, I think it’s pretty cool, but I’m sure there’s at least somebody that will be filled with contempt and disdain at the mere thought of such a thing. Fortunately, I can live with that.

A new remote that programs itself. Hmmmm. This never works for me. I’m still trying not to hate my cell phone which seems to think that it should make some decisions independent of me.
Why this thing can’t simply send and receive calls is beyond me. In fact it CAN’T just send and receive calls. That it finds tooooooo difficult and, despising difficulty, simply drops the call, preferably in the middle of whatever the point of the call was. :fustrate:

One of the local news shows (the Fox affiliate, of course) had a story this morning about an upsurge in the use of blotter acid. Funny how these stories coincide sometimes.
The Spongebob blotter tabs were cool too, although I probably wouldn’t say that if I had kids. 😀

Just out of curiosity, Sue, what carrier do you have for cell service? And what kind of handset? Our personal ones seem to work fine (Verizon), and I don’t use my work one much at all, except for e-mail (Cingular/ATT).
You’d think coverage down there would be pretty extensive. Of course, up here, there’s not much to get in the way of the signal (and a lot fewer phones per square foot).
As for the remote, I just opened the software, entered the makes and models of my equipment, answered the questions it asked of me (what do you turn on to watch TV, what do you use to control the volume, etc) – most of which already had the correct answers pre-suggested. Then it went to its database, downloaded the program to the remote, and everything worked.

PJ, I have Sprint/Nextel and the phone is a Motorola.
I find th phone totally confusing. It seems to want to be a camera, a game, and all kind of other things. It’s hard and confusing to program and seems to like to present me with a blank screen which I can only get out of by turning the thing off and then on again.
It also has buttons along the top and sides of the phone which are very hard NOT to press when using the phone because they’re placed in the very place I need to wrap my fingers when I hold it.
I’m probably still in the era of the dial phone. In act, I finally replaced the old dial phone in the bedroom which my mother had installed 40+ years ago. I did it only because my little granddaughter was so fascinated by it that she wanted to take it home.

Hartmann had a very interesting interview with Governor Siegelman yesterday.
It makes me think that the nexus of all the crap with Rove is the gambling. That’s how Abramoff ties in, and it was gambling money that was used by Rove to defeat Siegelman’s education lottery proposal which, obviously, would be competition for the casino money. And Ralph Reed must have been the guy yelling about how sinful gambling was (as he took the money) because I can’t see any other reason to vote against an education lottery.
Could it be that it’s all just sleazy greed?

OK so I’m off the subject again but last week or so I said I had to gat a copy of MS BOB for customer. Well I installed it on her new Vista machine yesterday but it wouldn’t run, DLL issues. So I tried to see if I could get it to work inside a virtual machine and still print to a USB printer on the host, well it works, at least here at home, I’ll have to see if it will work on her laptop.
PJ, the remote sounds way cool, my electronincs are a little too mixed for that, my amp is still analog and must be adjusted manually. It really sucks having to walk three feet from the couch.
