Happy Father’s Day to all you guys who managed to slip one past the goalie.
As you might suspect, NBC will be devote the whole hour today to Tim Russert, as Tom Brokaw hosts a special potato salad edition of Press the Meat. In addition to Brokaw, the folks lined up to completely ignore real news today include some guy from MSNBC named Mike Barnicle, creepy couple James Carvill and Mary Matalin, MTP producer Betsy Fischer, presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, PBS’s Gwen Ifill, and Maria ‘Skeletor’ Shriver.
Bush Buddy Bobby Schieffer hosts a fair and balanced look at “Campaign ’08’ on Faze the Nation, with Louisiana’s Republican Governor, Bobby Jindal, asshole Newt Gingrich, and Jim “Art” Vandehei of the ever incorrect Politico.
Speaking of Fair and Balanced, on Fux News Sunday, Weaselface Wallace has icky Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, ND Senator Byron Dorgan, Red Cavaney, president and CEO, American Petroleum Institute (on to tell us how bad he feels about all the record profits the Oil Industry is making), the usual group of Fuxheads, and, channeling the ghost of Josef Goebbels, the Pillsbury Dough Nazi, Karl Rove.
Speaking of Goebbels, on This Weak with George Snufalufagus, we get into the ‘big issues’ with John Edwards and Fred Thompson. Fred Thompson? Really? I guess maybe they need somebody to make John McCain look more lifelike or something. Plus there’s a roundtable of Robert Reich, former pentagon spokesbitch Torie Clarke, the depressingly stupid Jake Tapper, and George :jerk: Will.
On CNN’s Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer it’s the always disgusting John Boehner, KP’s Gov, Janet Napolitano, Chris Van Hollen of MD, Arlen Specter, McCain’s Economic Adviser Douglas Holtz-Eakin,and his counterpart from the Obama campaign, Dan Tarullo, plus Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari.
Later, on 60 Minutes, Lesley Stahl tells us we need to get some sleep, and Morley Safer tells us that Denmark is the happiest country in the world. Well good for them.
Enjoy the day. I’ll probably just sprawl across the davenport of despair.
Mad Dog in Crawford- no, not that Crawford…

McCain says “it’s tough, it’s tough in some respects†to be proud of America
By: Nicole Belle @ 6:30 AM – PDT
Jumpin’ Jehoshaphat, this man redefines the term “being confused.†He just nicely obliterated the right wing’s chances to smear Michelle Obama with that whole “she’s proud for the first time†stupidity. Wasn’t that nice of him?
The Politico: (h/t Jed Report)
So a man finally got a question into McCain and he had a very different sort of question.
The questioner noted that he had been educated at Princeton and Harvard and made more than $300,000 a year.
“How can I be proud of my country?†he asked.
Get it — he was mocking Michelle Obama and her statement earlier this year that her husband had for the first time in her life made her proud of her country.
Well, McCain either missed the joke or decided to ignore it and answer the question literally. I think it was the former because the individual asking the question had a thick accent that sounded to be either Indian or Pakistani, perhaps suggesting to McCain a recent immigrant grappling with America’s image abroad.
“I’ll admit to you that it’s tough, it’s tough in some respects,†McCain said, seeming to lend credence to Michelle Obama’s observation.
McCain said America needed to be “more humble, more inclusive.â€
He observed that one of the ways to be proud of the country was to look at our history — and the sacrifices U.S. troops have made abroad.
McCain let his questioner follow up and the individual repeated, but didn’t clarify, his line.
In closing, McCain said he was proud of America in part “because of you and what you’ve been able to achieve and accomplish.â€
I do like hearing a tad about Tim and how well he believed and how well he did prepare … (except I would say, “Know Oneself Well, For It Will Be and Should Be Asked”). I learned one of my favorite sayings from what Tim Had on His Wall, “Thou Shall Not Whine”. … :tap: A!I!V!
KO in the NYer for the lovers and the haters
art, I enjoyed the Cocker story above. My friend got to work with him a while ago marketing a record and loved him.
This was my favorite Joe but it might have been something I ate and the Master of Space and Time.
Oh BTW Merrie Fathers’ Day

Weird thought (moi?!)
Who will be the first ‘preacher’ to pin the flood woes of Iowa to the caucuses and O’Bama and some supernatural payback? Or has it been done already?
Mornin gang!
woke up to a call from my dotter!
i love her.
Joe seems like a sweet guy. First time I ever saw him he was on the middle of a bill opening with the original Fleetwood Mac, Joe and then Jethro Tull. I had never heard of any of them. It was during a blizzard in Kansas City- about 300 people showed up and it was the greatest concert I ever went to. At least what I remember of it. :bong:
When I saw Jethro Tull, Ian Anderson said he couldn’t understand why people in the audiences in the US would throw their fists in the air and yell “boogie!” So he looked the word up in the dictionary, and found out it meant ‘zebra shit.’ So then he was even more confused.
Later, two people in a zebra suit came onstage, and took a shit in his hands, which he held over his head any yelled “boogie!”
With all due respect, that sounds suspiciously like an urban myth on the same level with the one that had Zappa inviting an audience member to shit on stage and then he ate it. :tinfoil:
BTW, I’ve had a hell of a time getting MS to load. I gave up this afternoon and this was a bit of a struggle.
Loading MS has definitely been a struggle
AAR has not worked for me for hours and then it was periodic. :pirate: A!I!
