So, it’s Joe Biden. While I’m not Senator MBNA’s biggest fan, I think it’s a pretty good choice, politically. First, Joe was born in Scranton, which is where “The Office” takes place, and I love that show. Second, he’s Irish Catholic, and who can’t resist an Irish Catholic guy? Not only that, but he was born on Nov 20, which makes him a Scorpio. And finally, he’s a Syracuse University Law School alum, which means he’s got an in with 90% of all sportscasters out there.
Oh, I guess there might be a few other things in his favor. He’s very clean and articulate, for one thing (I guess that’s two things). He brings a lot of things to the table that Obama doesn’t. Like, he’s really, really white. And he’s got quite a bit of foreign policy experience, of course. Plus, while he can be kind of a dipshit at times (to Condi, “you’re the real deal!”), he’s pretty funny. Never misunderestimate a good sense of humor. He’s also got the experience, brains, and personality to be a pretty effective attack dog out on the campaign trail.
I suppose Biden was kind of a “safe” pick, and lots of people would rather have had him go for somebody else. Michael Moore wanted Caroline Kennedy, and it’s hard to pick against somebody Neil Diamond wrote a song for. And the Clinton people wanted Clinton, of course, but from what I read that was a no-go from the start, since her spouse was unwilling to do the kind of financial disclosure that any spouse not named Cindy McCain is required to do. Personally, I think Stephanie Tubbs Jones would have been a bold choice, bringing together a coalition of progressives, African-Americans, women, and dead people (hey, Obama’s from Chicago, where dead people are a powerful voting bloc).
But, all-in-all, I think Biden will do well. Now, who does that leave for Secretary of State?

😉
Nicki;’s first! :sammy:
:joe:
SoS Bill Richardson.
I thought if gone with someone without the foreign affairs/security creds like Kaine or Kennedy he might also name a few cabinet members to shore up the experience questions.
I would have preferred Richardson myself, but Biden is OK and will probably prove to be a better attack dog, which Obama desperately needs right now. The VP debate will be fun to watch – they should get the body bag ready for Mittens as soon as possible. (Not to mention the magic underwear.)
Hey, I was out of bed by 10 AM the first day of vacation! Wow! Of course, it helps that I wasn’t up pounding down :40: until the crack of dawn.
Who is Dawn anyway? And what’s so great about her crack? One of the many mysteries I hope to solve one day.
I’m using that one, Kevin! :spank: :rofl2:
I was thinking Jim Webb for VP and Biden for Secretary of State. Oh well, Obama doesn’t consult with me about anything!
I’m glad he chose Biden. I hope Biden has his wit sharpened and ready to take on that sanctimonious, lying Bush clone, McInane.
I got the impression Webb did not want to be scrutinized.
Lincoln is in Denver and he’ posted a rather disquieting picture of that town:

Hey, isn’t that Fred hanging off the back?
You mean tied up in the back, right?
It’s hard to know. Though, my guess is that he was probably an agent provocateur
A bad joke might endanger the teller

Protections Set for Antiabortion Health Workers
The Bush administration yesterday announced plans to implement a controversial regulation designed to protect doctors, nurses and other health-care workers who object to abortion from being forced to deliver services that violate their personal beliefs.
We all took the invitation to experience some new ideas.
I remember the estate, the great grassy hills where we assembled
Above the iron fences
Before the mansion on the hill
We waited for the sights to see
The enlightenment to follow
Thousands of us on that hill, high up on the grassy knoll
When they came to collect us for the sessions yet to come.
As we filed into the mansion, we were led to separate rooms
And we assembled for instruction, pointing on charts to words and concepts.
But at some time it seemed to me the thoughts were filled with falsity.
It was a plan to enslave us, to bring us to their world to stay.
Damaged by their perverse thinking,
Losing our minds and souls to them.
I quickly knew I couldn’t be there, but also I knew I had to stay
Hoping that as the time elapsed that we would have a chance to leave.
It seemed the choice was being altered by controls they put in place.
We could not leave so easily.
It seemed they were forcing us to stay.
I got concerned and looked around, while others slowly lost their wits
And succumbed to the thought plans perpetrated by the powers that be.
By the hosts of our gathering who now became the keepers of our bodies.
So it was time to think real hard – how could I come out of this?
I tried to get some others to see what I saw, but they just flitted in and out,
And I knew it was my preoccupation. I had to take care of myself.
So I pretended to be with them, but I knew that I must go.

Lager is a type of beer which was first brewed in Central Europe 500 years ago, and has since become one of the most popular types of beer in the world. The word “lager” comes from German and means “storage”. Traditionally, the beer is stored for several weeks or longer before being served. Lager is a general term that includes several variations or styles, such as Pilsener, Vienna, and Märzen.

From the Land of Sky Blue Waters,
From the land of pines’ lofty balsams,
Comes the beer refreshing,
Hamm’s the beer refreshing.
Brewed where nature works her wonders,
Aged for many moons, gently mellowed,
Hamm’s the beer refreshing,
Hamm’s the beer refreshing.

What is the difference between an ale and a lager?
Ale uses top-fermenting yeast while lager uses bottom-fermenting. The result of this is ales tend to have a stronger flavour and cloudy colour, while lagers are usually clearer and more crisp.

Bamberg
Nine independent breweries, two trading malt houses, and one factory for brewing machinery – in no other German town has beer culture been kept as alive as in the Upper Franconian cathedral town of Bamberg. As the river Regnitz flows through the historic city centre so the brewery trade runs like a thread through the town’s history. Ever since Bamberg was founded the production of beer has secured the livelihoods of many craftsmen and farmers: bourgeois master brewers prepared beer, coopers produced barrels, coppersmiths made brew coppers, market gardeners and farmers grew the natural ingredients. Many public building projects came into being by clerical and worldly rulers imposing taxes on beer. On the other hand beer served the citizens not only to quench their thirst but it also provided pleasurable hours in the pubs and on the beer cellars of the town.
The author Dr Christian Fiedler has dedicated his book “Bamberg, die wahre Hauptstadt des Bieres†to the rich historic and cultural heritage of the brewing tradition, which is hundreds of years old. On 228 pages he documents the beginning of beer production from the foundation of the town right up to the present day. He also describes the history of 76 breweries which he brings to life with 300 pictures and maps – a must for all enthusiasts of this beautiful town and its thousand-year-old brewing tradition.
I like rauchbier, myself.
