Hope KP is okay. :omg:
This was the storm that blasted Phoenix.

Has the New York Times done to ‘bama what TIME did to OJ?
You tell me
http://www.nytimes.com/
Anyone seen a print edition?
Of the speech, or the Times?
The times. The photo online on the front page looks like it’s been darkened up.
Oh, could be. He does look a few shades darker.
Am I being hyper :tinfoil: ?
Beats me. At least they didn’t give him any gang tattoos.
I’m looking forward to seeing a live “Shoot The Messenger” show with Lizz Winstead at the RNC next week. I will report back.
I’ll get a copy of the Times in little while and I’ll let you know. The Times has been pretty supportive of Obama and not too thrilled with McInane.
Rumor today is that McCain’s running mate is Sarah Palin (sp?) the governor of Alaska. Apparently it is hard to find a pro-life female in the GOP but she is one. They must think that all those PUMA people will rush to McLame if he choses a woman.
I read someplace that it was going to be Bob Dole, so that when ‘merica yells at the terr’ists to “get off our lawn!” they’ll know we mean business.
Oh, I saw the Palin thing, but I thought they meant Michael. Too bad; I’d have to consider that ticket.
Maybe you’ll run into Granny out there next week, Web.
Maron v.Seder latest VOD
Sorry I didn’t get this last night. I had to re-watch the speech and missed it.
Trying to get my steel up to hear the multitudes of negative voices and reasons O’Bama shouldn’t and won’t win as people begin the process of trying to dampen the enthusiasm and depress (crush) the support. If I really wanted to get depressed I could just visualize President McCain.

Seems like you should only need rehab for that if you can’t get any.
The only reason for Obama to lose is because some of those people won’t vote for one of them people. Well, and if the media stays on the McCain bandwagon, which I think they may start jumping off.
I think most of us are kinda tired of the old white guys running the show. Of course, I wasn’t crazy about Obama’s nod to “clean” coal and “safe” nuclear energy.
But McCain? No, no, no.
Wow, what a storm! Apparently there was 75-85 mph winds with 100 mph gusts. :omg: I can’t believe we didn’t lose power. But my poor neighbors house was built with no thought to grading what so ever. Water coming in from all sides. And we’re supposed to get more storms throughout the weekend. I don’t know what he’s gonna do, I guess we’ll be bailing. I think Hurricane Gustav snuck over here to Phoenix last night.
Oh, I’m okay ‘cept I stubbed my toe really bad when I was helping my neighbor. :smack:
palin? Now there’s someone who should be one  from the Presidency.
Cue the PUMAs for Palin cycle.
Time for Tina Fey to return to SNL.
I don’t want to get back into this coal/nucular thing again. He can say he is into it but maybe he really means clean and safe and regulated and controlled. It is probably gonna happen. Who would you prefer to see in charge when it does?
He made a point of mentioning both. I’m sure there are political reasons for doing it. For me, it isn’t about McCain vs. Obama. Only a delusional idiot would vote McCain – or vote third party if you’re not in a “safe” state.
But I won’t make excuses for the things I don’t like, either. I didn’t like the FISA vote, and I don’t think coal and nukes are the way to go, either. I’m sure there are plenty of other things that I won’t like, too.
I’m not all that idealistic, frankly. I don’t need the ‘pure’ candidate, since there is no such thing (nobody that could ever get elected, certainly). I just hope the people who somehow thought Obama was a liberal won’t be too disappointed. He’ll certainly do, after what we’ve had for the past 8 years. I figure him to be about a Bill Clinton type, which is (quite obviously) much better than Bush or McCain. And I think he’ll be good for the non-white folks out there, because they’ll see that, yes, even they can become president some day. And good for the world to see that maybe we’re back to pretending to be the good guys again.
And, hey, if he surprises me, so much the better. Could be he’s just playin’ possum, and once he gets in there, he’ll be a flaming liberal eco-warrior. Never seems to turn out that way, but I can hope.
I just hope he can do some of what he says he wants to do (maybe w/o the clean coal and nuclear energy). So much depends on who he has giving him advice, and what Congress does. The way our government works, I think presidents have an easier time fucking things up than they do setting things right. And of course the Republicans can ram everything down our throats when they’re in the majority, and can stop anything from happening when they’re in the minority. See how bashful THEY are in filibustering.
People keep talking about a “filibuster proof” majority, but come on. With all the DINO’s in the Senate, that’ll be mighty difficult. At least when they pass SCHIP, we know Obama won’t veto it.
Of course, I’m not so delusional that I think that what I believe actually matters.
Hey, KP, glad you didn’t get washed (or blown) away. Sounds like a nice storm. My poor dog would have been terrified.
Yeah, Palin is definitely better looking than NY’s Governor, that’s for sure.
The front page of the NY Times has a shot of the podium showing tw image of Obama. The one on the left is very dark and shadowy, the one on the right is very light. they certainly could have picked a better picture but I doubt there is a sinister motive.
The media is already spinning Palin as a “bold, maverick” pick. 🙄 Oy.
Gov. Sarah Palin wants bears DEAD.
As I said, who would you trust more? Maybe she can offer up Alaska for nuke waste disposal, though it might not sit well with Canuckistan along the way.
I guess this means Alaska is not an exotic, foreign place.
CBS, PBS and ABC locally is not showing this. Fox is and an indy is. Don’t get NBC.
Heh. She’s the Governor of a state that’s 22 years younger than McCain.
I guess he wants those 3 electoral votes pretty bad.
I think Marc and Sam should have done a show today.

Jack Ryan’s Star Trek Sex Scandal Puts Obama In The House
Alaska legislators on Monday voted to spend up to $100,000 to investigate Gov. Sarah Palin’s controversial firing of former state Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan.
The decision came from the Legislative Council, a bipartisan panel of state senators and representatives.
The committee itself will not conduct the probe. Rather, it will hire an independent investigator to explore whether Palin, her family or members of her administration pressured Monegan to fire an Alaska state trooper involved in a rough divorce from Palin’s sister.

If you’re going by plane you may wish to avoid this airline.
Apparently, my neighborhood was hit hardest by the storm last night. Some of the lightning pics are awesome. I think I wanna go look at the house that was split in 2 by a big tree. :omg:
Glad you’re OK KP, except of course for that toe.
Hey Krista, Dick Morris called. He wants to fly out to PHX and check out your toe. :hubba:
Seriously, I’m glad you’re OK.
No dick is gonna suck my toe!

Watch out, Grampy. With five kids, that’s a fertile field you’re plowing there.

Not just veep, but veep for a senile old man that’s likely to die in office.
Why does Michelle Obama keep sending me e-mails with the subject “What I Saw Last Night”? Did I forget to close the curtains or what?
But, she (Palin) is a woman, I jut gotta vote for her.
Sue P. just being Saracastic.
Apparently, the Rethugs think that women are so stupid that they vote based on gender and ignore such things as the fact that Palin is for everything that most women (in fact most people) are against.

I’m not selling out, I’m buying in!
I just saw everyone’s favorite DINO DiFi say she was not sure if she had ever heard of Palin.
I’m pretty sure I have obsessive compulsive disorder. 20 times at least on the first link.

Another bait and switch with Vern. Sorry, man.
Kathy Malloy, what a pip. “I could be the president, all I have to do is put on my snowshoes and blubber.”
It’s OK, T. There is usually a pretty good gap between comments.
I am waiting for the big ad with the fake voice reminiscent of NFL Films saying something like “For almost two years on the front as Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin has prevented any Russian invasions of the United States, not even one.”
I mean, come on, all of these people with a straight face trying to say this governor for 20 months of one of our smallest states after being a ‘ceremonial’ mayor of a town of 9K is somehow equal to or superior to Joe Biden and even O’Bama. Can anyone take that shit seriously? Obviously, some will.
The minefields will be everywhere. She will be made out to be a sympathetic figure whenever possible if she gets hit too hard. It will be her POW card. I think some Quayle references should be in order.
It is ironic that the party who derides the ‘victim mentality’ seem perched to use it at every step this year.
Okay, so what are people who have no car or no money for gas supposed to get out, hitchhike?? I am so friggin sick of people with money and their obtuse view of things. I just wanna give them $20 and set them loose with no credit, no job and no friends and see how far they get. :fu:
QueP,
I think they are going to be pretty aggressive with the buses this time. Also remember, a lot of those less fortunate were ‘washed away’ by Katrina and the ‘po’ folks’ are not so many any more. A lot of the poorer neighborhoods like the 9th Ward haven’t even begun to be restored.
That being said, lets hope and pray if you do that they wont be hit and if they are, the levees and infrastructure have been restored and built to at least the level to withstand the storm.
Sarah Lee Palin .
all the Stepford Wives calling into Hew Hewitt today fawned over Palin. Apparently nobody doesn’t like Sarah Lee …. if they are a repug.
I heard someone on Malloy saying that this is another Harriet Myers.
There are new po folks created by this housing bubble and horrible economy since Katrina. I sure hope they don’t let those buses sit in a flooded parking lot like they did last time.
Many bobbleheads said McCain needed to be comfortable with his VP. He must get comfortable very quickly because he only met Palin ONCE.
McCain’s a jerk! (How’s that for an obvious statement?}
That was a little of what I was implying. Yes, there are poor there but so many of them have never been able to return because of double and triple rents and inflated property values and obstacles. Wages have not been commensurate to that.
Best wishes to all of those already hit and in Gustav’s more immediate path like Cuba.
