Back to work for me today. That blows. It’s been really nice to be off the last 4 days – most I’ve had off in a row since I can recall, right off the top of my head. Last Christmas, at least. But I actually got quite a bit accomplished (not that I exactly had lofty goals).
Thanks to Travis for jumping in there yesterday morning. I didn’t have anything much to say, and, since I had the day off, figured I’d sleep in a little and see if I felt inspired. I wasn’t – but fortunately I didn’t need to be.
I haven’t been paying much attention to the Republicans. I’m kind of shocked by the MSP police, though. I never thought of myself as naive, but I can’t figure out if I’m more appalled by what they’ve been doing, or by the fact that nobody seems to know or care about it. The comments at places like the Star-Tribune or even The Nation are more than I can bear to read.
I’ve said for quite a few years now – way before I met all you guys – that we were heading into a period of fascism here in this country. It was the way kids of the time seemed to be getting buzz cuts and going all rah-rah for the military and stuff. Nothing against that, but it’s pretty foreign to my personal experience. Hell, even one of my stepdaughters came close to joining the army. Go figure. I just don’t get it.
But, anyway, once everybody starts getting enamored of the shiny black leather boots and parading around in uniforms, well, you’re on you way to Krystallnacht (not that the Nazis were all bad, my Schwiegervater would be quick to tell you). When you look at where this country has come to in such a short amount of time, it’s pretty depressing.
Oh well, good thing it’s a short week.
Maybe this is part of McCain’s plan to boost the economy.

Her speech is scheduled for tonight. Assuming she’s still on the ticket by then, of course.
Who knew a 72-year-old man could dig his own grave so fast?
:rofl2:
The new google web browser (chrome) is looking pretty good so far. Download here if interested..
#2 Thanks a lot, pj.
Hope it works
:tap:
That trick never works
Dear Friends,
Please help support free speech and in the process irritate people by sharing your comments, good or bad, on the video our band (the Clutter Family) recently put up on YouTube. JonBenet Ramsey ghouls are attempting to get it thrown off YouTube, and we all know that would be wrong -very wrong for America.
Please, don’t let this be the slippery slope that ends all offensive JonBenet Ramsey videos! We have so much freedom to lose.
Thank you so much for your understanding.
God Bless this country!
Sincerely,
Jim Earl

Thanks, pj, for saving my pathetic effort to bring Jim Earl content.
If only marc would put as much effort at self-promotion as Jim Earl 😕
why did it go back to the old avatar?
The blog seems lethargic.
art, can I see a larger version of your gravatar?
yay.. I am a full fledged geek and can now embed video. thanks to daughter who can decipher pj’s computer latin.
I’ll try when I get home. The original might “eat”a large portion of
The blog. It’s a take-off on “axis-BOLD AS LOVE”
Biden:
I sure hope so, Joe.
Hey, Soupy, now that you’ve mastered the art of embedding, maybe you’d like to take a shot at writing tomorrow’s opening thread?
Oh, those pesky open mic’s. And what a potty mouth on Peggy Noonan! I didn’t think Republicans used words like “bullshit.”

art, I thought that was what it was. You can email it to wvmc3d at sbcglobal dot net or link it.
Experience
Palin’s convention speech leaked.
So, if I were to mention the name, Minuet, would anybody know who I meant?
Star Trek?
Andy wins. The actress who plays Minuet in ST: TNG also played the shrink on Law and Order for a while.
I love the fucking drug companies. Check out Silence Your Rooster!
I thought it was DS9. So will anyone watch her theocratness speak tonight. I can’t, my BP is high enough already.
I will not.
Duncan Hunter supporting torture on the young turks right now
I went to a great Lizz Winstead show yesterday in Minneapolis. She took her NYC Wake Up World comedy troupe on the road and they put on a flawless performance (erstwhile MS dude Barry Lank played a few roles including a brilliant Saddam Hussein take on video). It was a fairly complex production and I only saw one glitch and you can tell they aren’t doing it for the money. One of the highlights was this totally vicious attack on congressional minion Michelle Bachmann who basically came off as the blueprint for Palin. Lizz said she was glad to do it cause no one in NYC knows who Bachmann is like Minnesotans.
The second half of the show was music. Lizz’s friend journalist/musician Jim Walsh puts on an occasional Hootennany where he invites friends to play guitars and trade songs. Last night he had Billy Bragg join and later Tom Morello from Rage/Machine and Ike Reilly came on stage. He also had local musicians Eliza Blue and Jennifer Markey doing songs and they were all great. Vernon needs to keep his eyes out for these women.
Morello and Bragg both had stories on police harrassment when they came into town, Bragg at the airport and Morello tried to storm the St Paul capitol earlier in the evening.
The combined show lasted 6 hours. Lizz is a genius for putting this together. One more show tonight and another tomorrow in Mpls.
A review of the show here:

WHT, most jealous. I get the invites for Shoot the Messenger every week to the Lizz thing in NYC. Hopefully Maron might hook up with them now that he is back East.
This is my first day back at work. I spent 4 hours hearing the same thing I’ve heard every September for 20 years. Then I went upstate (PJ would not agree that Goshen is upstate) and saw my little granddaughter get off her schoolbus after her first day in first grade. She arrived complaining about homework, but it was really not too odious.
Jennie patiently read PJ’s embedding instructions and translated them into action that I believe I can repeat, but we shall see.
I am really tired but I promise to write a morning thread this week. Of course if I wake up in the middle of the night, I’ll write one for tomorrow. Right now this is all I’ve got.
Vernon,
So do I, otherwise I would have missed the announcement. I also check out the videos they cull from Shoot the Messenger.
The music part of the show also made it to the NY Times

Mitt :omg: Wholey fookin’ shite! :omg:
I have to figure out how to get to one of those Monday nights in Manhattan. I keep trying to get my NYC based friends to go.
Country first, Angry Left!
vern- look in your email. Hope it works.
Frigging rethugs, laughing at the mention of “working as a community organizer”. Shit fer brains, all of em.
Malloy sez “goddamn community organizer. Ha Ha Ha. Get this pig (Ghouliani) off the air. Fithy republicans.”
Maybe they could have found a more intimate venue because Rudy is on fire.
An amazing blend of equine and male bovine bloviating feces! Hopefully he is not overplaying the gov’ner of AK.
Nice touch! Cindy and the stunt baby.
I could only listen to about 5 minutes of the hell hound for VP. Her speech seems to define the word pandering.

WOW!!
They call her “snake eyes” and HE is the one with the gambling problem.
Someone’s taking the day off tomorrow.
