Hall of Fame drummer Earl Palmer dead at 84
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Leading R&B drummer Earl Palmer, best known for his New Orleans recording sessions with the likes of Fats Domino and Little Richard, died on Friday at his home in Los Angeles at age 84, his family said.
 🙁 :gate: 🙁 :gate:
It’s Saturday in the great United Socialist States. Hubby’s comment yesterday was, “I’d better not hear any complaints about bailing out Social Security.”
Amen.
Meanwhile it has gotten quite chilly on Long Island. Needed a little heat last night.

Bushvilles
Or we could spread the responsibility to all the repugs and call them Republiland.
My question is, rather than buying up all the bad mortgages from the banks, why not just pay off everybody’s mortgage?
Whee! Greg Palast for the web!
Steal Back Your Vote
:yippee: (needed emotocon, yes. Yes indeed.)
Naomi Klein on Maher last night (most time-appropriate “Real Time” guest of the century) confirming that yes folks, this is the Shock Doctrine being applied and in force.
If that wasn’t depressing enough, Paul Krugman was on to say he’s scared and this is the worst thing he could imagine.
We’re fucked :sheep: le
:tinfoil:
That is scary, when reasonable guys like Krugman are scared. Well, my good friend in Milwaukee offered to let me move in with her if it gets too bad. I had an interview for a scenic painting job the other day but I think every artist in town applied for it. And it’s only 20 hours a week. I have to go through another round of interviews so even if I get it, I probably won’t start working til October. 😕
Americans need to be told a more fundamental truth: This crisis is the result of a willful and systematic failure by the government to regulate and monitor the activities of bankers, lenders, hedge funds, insurers and other market players. All were playing high-stakes poker with the financial system, but without adequate transparency, oversight or supervision.
The regulatory failure, in turn, was grounded in the Bush administration’s magical belief that the market, with its invisible hand, works best when it is left alone to self regulate and self correct. The country is now paying the price for that delusion.

I think what we need is further deregulation. We should deregulate stealing. Start modestly, of course. Make it so that individuals can steal up to $20 a day in goods or services. And we’ll rely on self-reporting, so if you inadvertently steal more than $20, you report yourself to the government, and they, at their discretion, can fine you (of course, we’ll so drastically underfund the responsible regulatory agency that any fines will be few and far between).
I think that will help out the regular folks quite a bit. I’ll steal about $200 a month in utilities, and maybe another $100 or so in gasoline. That should leave plenty of room to steal Internet access and satellite TV, car insurance, and maybe take a little off the mortgage.
Ha! I’m already doing that. :billcat:
Here’s what McCain has to say about the wonders of market-based health reform:
“Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation.”

How can McInsane be THAT out of touch!?? WOW. :smack: And after this last week too. Unbelievable. We are living in Kafkaland, I’m convinced.
Bush is going to use the economic crisis as another excuse to seize more power for the executive branch. He will attempt to become a unique figure in history: a fascist in charge of a socialist economy.
The Netherlands is starting to look really good to me these days.

My Mean Chili Relleno Recipe
4 Anaheim or poblano chilis (choose chilis that have a thicker flesh. The ones that feel thin burn to easily)
2 pounds cheddar cheese or goat cheese
4 egg whites
4 egg yolks
1/4-1/2 tspn each sea salt, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, paprika, chili powder, oregano, marjoram, tarragon, and cumin
masa harina or flour
1. Roast chilis in the broiler or on the grill until the skin starts to char and pull away from chili, be careful not to burn. The poblanos char quicker than the anaheims so don’t walk away from the broiler. Put a small 1/2″ slice in each chili so they don’t explode.
2. You can remove the seeds attached to the stem very carefully at this point if you don’t want burn butt the next day, but, the seeds are chock full of vitamin c, if you can stand the heat. Fill the chilis with small slices of cheese or whatever else sounds good.(rice, meat, tomatos etc)
3. Start heating oil in a pan, cover bottom of pan with oil.
4. Coat chilis with masa or flour(I don’t do this step, it’s so the batter sticks better)
5. Beat egg yolks til fluffy and then whip egg whites until stiff peaks form and add seasonings and egg yolk gently folding them together. Work quickly so the batter doesn’t get flat.
6. Make a “bed” with 1/2 the batter in the frying pan, large enough to lay the chilis on and “tuck” them in with the rest of the batter covering them completely. Fry on both sides til golden brown. drain on paper towels, or not, and serve with beans, rice, salsa and tortillas.YUM!
