Back in 2004, I took the day after election day off, so I could stay up late and relish the victory. John Kerry had kicked Bush’s ass in the debates, and it was more then obvious who the better man was. Needless to say, that didn’t work out so well, so this year I’ve decided to take the day before election day off. Hopefully this will work out a little better. Frankly, I’d have gotten nothing done at work today anyway.
Tomorrow is a huge day for this country. It aint about whether Barack Obama is the perfect liberal, or my #1 choice, or whatever else it is that the PUMAs or the Naderites or the ‘pure’ people think is the only candidate worth supporting (here’s a clue, folks: no matter how wonderful your candidate is, if they can’t get elected, then they aint gonna get much done).
Tomorrow is about whether this country can shake free from the shackles of ignorance and racism, and elect the obviously smarter and better-qualified candidate over the dim-witted evil old white guy (and his white-trash running mate). It’s also about whether or not the Republican Party can be slammed into the ground where it deserves for bringing about the most corrupt and destructive group of criminals to have ever run this country (and that’s saying a lot, because we don’t exactly have a pristine history here).
The Republican Party has all but destroyed this country. They deserve to go the way of the Whigs. I only hope tomorrow will bring about the crushing blow that will signal the end of this vile, despicable bunch.
Then we get a week to be happy before we start jumping on the Democrats’ asses.
Thank goodness I don’t have to work tomorrow. I think there are going to be long lines to vote here in Red Hook. I’m planning to go early and hope for the best.
On the bright side, quite literally, the sky was light when I got up. Sundown is 4:49 pm, here.
The Rethugs certainly deserve to be ground into dust. It’s hard to single out th most offensive Rethug of this election season, but Liddy Dole is a prominent contender for her “my opponent speaks to folks who don’t believe in god.” :barf:
But she’s in tough competition with McInane and his running mate, Brainless Barbie.
Gotta work. Have a good one.
Everybody listen to Stephanie Miller today. I sent Mama a funny about an ad the RNC is running in Florida. Hope she reads it.
:rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2:
Here’s the youtube version of the Palin prank
Poor Sarah. She’s destined to become the Stu Nunnery of the Republican party.
I cant’ believe there is just one more day. I am trying to listen to Steph but I am already on edge and she is grinding on my last nerve even more than usual. I used to only listen to the first hour for the right wing coverage but now she has moved it.
Anyway
:cake: :spank:
Mama read my bit! About three minutes into the show.
Stephanie!!!
I missed it and now she is doing right wing world so I’m stuck. When this hour’s done I’ll can go down to the office and watch yesterday’s Rachel Special and Maher.
So was Victoria Jackson the model for the xtian woman on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip? At least that woman was sympathetic and reasonably intelligent.
Wasn’t this the date of the last live MS show 3 years ago?
Big test for me today. Maybe around twenty-five percent of my grade or something. I know how much everyone is interested in my subject of study. :barf:
Happy numbers
Happy Flower
Lincoln has beautiful shots today of some of the birds that live in Central Park. They’re certainly a nice respite from thinking about Rethugs.

This will make your blood boil.
Later 😡
It’s totally sarcastic; don’t be fooled, sheeple.
Good luck, TRAV!!
hmmm, missed Kev’s piece on mama’s show this a.m.
what a great job, photographing gorgous birds all day…
developer -boss having a conniption i’m trying to help these folks pro bono… it’s pretty funny to watch, actually, when i don’t cry about it.
(trying to ignore what day it is, but my denial is only taking me so far…..)
OK, here it is. It didn’t get much of a laugh out of the mooks, but Stephanie seemed to like it.
The RNC is running an anti-Obama ad in Florida that begins. “Would you get on a plane with a pilot who has never flown?”
Nice metaphor, considering that the OTHER pilot crashed his plane THREE TIMES when he flew in the Navy.
Sorry, Grampy. (Stephanie inserted the wha-wha noise here.) I’m flying on the Obama Express! It’s safer!
And I will give Stephanie credit both times I’ve sent stuff for reading it exactly as written. If my editor in college had done the same, I would most likely be a journalist or maybe even a pundit today. Shit, if David Brooks can do it, so can I.
:rofl2:
Barack Obama’s grandmother has died
By Steven Thomma | McClatchy Newspapers
Barack Obama’s grandmother has died in Hawaii, his campaign announced. Obama broke off campaigning two weeks ago to visit the ailing Madelyn Dunham, 86.
“It is with great sadness that we announce that our grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, has died peacefully after a battle with cancer,” Obama said in a joint statement with his half-sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng.
🙁 :gate:
Thanks Farmerkat! I think I did fine. Maybe I’ll find out sometime this week what percentage was confiscated from me.
this polling stuff makes me mighty nervous.
thoughts?
I hope PJ plans to open a chat room tomorrow. The thought of McInane and Palin is so very scary.
I’m going to try to vote around 9am. Maybe I’ll miss the people voting before they go to work. This being a very liberal, predominantly minority neighborhood, I think the turnout is going to be large. I have yet to wait more than 10 minutes to vote.
Lincoln Kareem is an AP photographer who is quite smitten with Palemale and his increasing family. ( Palemale arrived in NY in 1991, the first redtail ever known to live in modern NYC. He has quite a devoted following.) Lincoln takes his bird photos before and after work.
Bush has not lost faith in the rightness of Republican policies. I guess it’s just their outcomes that are the problem.
Damn! I missed it Kevin. :smack:
The Republican IT guru, recently described as a “high tech Forrest Gump” for his proclivity to be “at the scene” of so many troubling elections since 2000, and even at the heart of the “lost” White House email scandal, has been ordered by a federal judge to appear for an under-oath deposition next Monday in Ohio.
The BRAD BLOG has learned that Mike Connell, the Republican IT guru whose company, GovTech Solutions, created Ohio’s 2004 election results computer network, appeared in federal court today, as compelled, and has been ordered to appear for his deposition on Monday, November 3, just 24 hours before Election Day 2008.
Today’s court order came after a contentious hearing, at which Connell was present. The hearing was part of a long-standing voting rights violations lawsuit, King Lincoln v. Blackwell, as previously covered by The BRAD BLOG and by Velvet Revolution’s Election Protection Strike Force here and here.
Though Connell’s attorneys have fought to quash the subpoena, recently issued after the judge lifted a stay on the case several weeks ago, it looks like his options to avoid testimony, or at least jail for avoiding it, may have come to an end. The attorneys in the case have said that Connell’s testimony may well lead to the subpoenaing and under-oath questioning of Karl Rove, who, they say, would be unable to use Executive Privilege as an excuse to avoid such a subpoena in a civil RICO case..

It’s going to be a long day tomorrow. Setup the machines at 0600 and be there till the close. Man….I’m exhausted already.
You’re working the polls, huh. Should be interesting. I’m not this time, I actually have work.
For me not so much. It’s predominantly white and rethug although I’d be curious to see if anyone tries to to intimidate any of the Dems. I wonder what 8 years of pent up rage looks like released all at once.
