Stayed up way past my bedtime last night, but it was worth it. Still a few Senate seats up in the air, but I’m too tired to think about them. Have a good one.

President Obama! Wow!
Wow! It has been a long time since the world wasn’t just black and gray.
By the way, just to get a shameless SU plug in there, Ernie Davis, the first black man to win the Heisman Trophy wore #44, and Obama is President #44.
Astrological General Daily Overview
However jubilant or mournful we are about the Presidential election, the Saturn-Uranus battle isn’t over. We can still feel tension from yesterday’s long-lasting opposition between traditional Saturn and futuristic Uranus as this history-making aspect continues to dominate the cosmic scene through July, 2010. A dreamy Venus-Neptune sextile enables us to see the brighter side of things while the eclectic Aquarius Moon encourages unorthodox behavior.
Hmm, and it’s been 44 years since a Democratic presidential candidate got a majority (over 50%) of the vote.
No more embarrassing comments from the president! No more worship of idiocy! I wonder how the msm will respond in the long term? Will they continue their blind reporting of talking points? Or will they begin to practice real investigative journalism?
4 is a number of power in the tarot.
Damn! Al Franken lost. :fustrate:
Sucks about Franken – we’re stuck with Bachmann as well.
Everywhere in America, comedians are mourning.
I still like this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDIzrzfajrk
There will be a recount in MN for Franken, so it aint over yet.
Obama first Democrat to take Virginia in 44 years , the year I moved there. I was not in an LBJ district. I seem to remember being a lone voice Dem that year in class. I guess it builds character. I so much would like there for a moment today to walk around and see the horror in the faces that a ‘negra’ has been elected POTUS.
Hank Aaron, Jerry West (Zeke from Cabin Creek), Willie McCovey
We are about to enter a new day of defending ‘our guy’ and pushing him to do the right things. I would love to see how the ‘Country Firsters’ start to undermine O’Bama post haste but I need a break.
Wasn’t Hank Aaron #44?
Unorthodox behavior :hubba:
Hank Aaron, Willie McCovey AND Jerry West (not to mention Jim Brown and Floyd Little) were all #44 .
And the election was on the 4th. I think we need to get some lottery tickets here.
Interesting. I only remember Brown as #32 when he wasn’t dragging 3 or 4 guys down the field on his back.
I had people lining up outside the polling place at 0630 yesterday. Did over 300 by 0830 and 1100 by closing. My district where repugs outnumber Dems by 4 to1 voted for Obama by a margin of 3 to 2.
And Obama was born on August 4th! And got elected to the Senate in ’04!
The fours is with him.
 victory motherfuckers!!!!!
UPDATE: The AP has uncalled the race for Coleman
From the SF Chronicle:
Proposition K, the prostitution measure, lost by 16 percentage points.
I guess being a convicted felon is OK
(Not if you have a D next to your name)
this 4 thing is interesting :gate:
give alaska to the south and let ’em go form a more perfectless union
mr fk said the base is quiet because so many stayed up last night. the soldiers are fine with the change and he’s noticed a lot of interaction between blacks & whites. the contractors, however, are complaining big time – very vocal. wonder why. :nixon:
thom hartman is taking calls from all over the world this a.m. it’s very cool!

From Michael Moore
Wednesday, November 5th, 2008
Friends,
Who among us is not at a loss for words? Tears pour out. Tears of joy. Tears of relief. A stunning, whopping landslide of hope in a time of deep despair.
In a nation that was founded on genocide and then built on the backs of slaves, it was an unexpected moment, shocking in its simplicity: Barack Obama, a good man, a black man, said he would bring change to Washington, and the majority of the country liked that idea. The racists were present throughout the campaign and in the voting booth. But they are no longer the majority, and we will see their flame of hate fizzle out in our lifetime.
There was another important “first” last night. Never before in our history has an avowed anti-war candidate been elected president during a time of war. I hope President-elect Obama remembers that as he considers expanding the war in Afghanistan. The faith we now have will be lost if he forgets the main issue on which he beat his fellow Dems in the primaries and then a great war hero in the general election: The people of America are tired of war. Sick and tired. And their voice was loud and clear yesterday.
It’s been an inexcusable 44 years since a Democrat running for president has received even just 51% of the vote. That’s because most Americans haven’t really liked the Democrats. They see them as rarely having the guts to get the job done or stand up for the working people they say they support. Well, here’s their chance. It has been handed to them, via the voting public, in the form of a man who is not a party hack, not a set-for-life Beltway bureaucrat. Will he now become one of them, or will he force them to be more like him? We pray for the latter.
But today we celebrate this triumph of decency over personal attack, of peace over war, of intelligence over a belief that Adam and Eve rode around on dinosaurs just 6,000 years ago. What will it be like to have a smart president? Science, banished for eight years, will return. Imagine supporting our country’s greatest minds as they seek to cure illness, discover new forms of energy, and work to save the planet. I know, pinch me.
We may, just possibly, also see a time of refreshing openness, enlightenment and creativity. The arts and the artists will not be seen as the enemy. Perhaps art will be explored in order to discover the greater truths. When FDR was ushered in with his landslide in 1932, what followed was Frank Capra and Preston Sturgis, Woody Guthrie and John Steinbeck, Dorothea Lange and Orson Welles. All week long I have been inundated with media asking me, “gee, Mike, what will you do now that Bush is gone?” Are they kidding? What will it be like to work and create in an environment that nurtures and supports film and the arts, science and invention, and the freedom to be whatever you want to be? Watch a thousand flowers bloom! We’ve entered a new era, and if I could sum up our collective first thought of this new era, it is this: Anything Is Possible.
An African American has been elected President of the United States! Anything is possible! We can wrestle our economy out of the hands of the reckless rich and return it to the people. Anything is possible! Every citizen can be guaranteed health care. Anything is possible! We can stop melting the polar ice caps. Anything is possible! Those who have committed war crimes will be brought to justice. Anything is possible.
We really don’t have much time. There is big work to do. But this is the week for all of us to revel in this great moment. Be humble about it. Do not treat the Republicans in your life the way they have treated you the past eight years. Show them the grace and goodness that Barack Obama exuded throughout the campaign. Though called every name in the book, he refused to lower himself to the gutter and sling the mud back. Can we follow his example? I know, it will be hard.
I want to thank everyone who gave of their time and resources to make this victory happen. It’s been a long road, and huge damage has been done to this great country, not to mention to many of you who have lost your jobs, gone bankrupt from medical bills, or suffered through a loved one being shipped off to Iraq. We will now work to repair this damage, and it won’t be easy.
But what a way to start! Barack Hussein Obama, the 44th President of the United States. Wow. Seriously, wow.
Yours,
Michael Moore

my gloatiness coeffecient is at 9+ and peaking.
and the hockey mom goes back to the minor league!
there is a gawd and she’s smiling.
Vicks Formula 44 cough syrup will give you a good buzz if you drink enough of it. So I’m told. I celebrated last night with a different beverage of choice… Publix had Heineken 12-pack bottles on sale this week. I had forgotten how tasty those little green buggers are. :40:
Happy to be off work today!
1-1-1 on Senate campaigns. Kay Hagan won, Bruce Lunsford lost, and Al is still watching them recount the votes.
And the despicable Tom Feeney is out the House! Suzanne Kosmas rocks!
I’m going to miss her:
NEWSWEEK has also learned that Palin’s shopping spree at high-end department stores was more extensive than previously reported. While publicly supporting Palin, McCain’s top advisers privately fumed at what they regarded as her outrageous profligacy. One senior aide said that Nicolle Wallace had told Palin to buy three suits for the convention and hire a stylist. But instead, the vice presidential nominee began buying for herself and her family–clothes and accessories from top stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. According to two knowledgeable sources, a vast majority of the clothes were bought by a wealthy donor, who was shocked when he got the bill. Palin also used low-level staffers to buy some of the clothes on their credit cards. The McCain campaign found out last week when the aides sought reimbursement. One aide estimated that she spent “tens of thousands” more than the reported $150,000, and that $20,000 to $40,000 went to buy clothes for her husband. Some articles of clothing have apparently been lost. An angry aide characterized the shopping spree as “Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast,” and said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican Party audits its books.

I so want Chambliss – who rarely, if ever, voted for our Veterans, to go down….. :reaper:
Michael Crichton died. The election must have finished him off.
According to the NY Times, the Erie Canal is experiencing a modest comeback due, in part, to the high fuel costs.

=> Head of the EPA. This would be the best New Year’s present ever.
Robert Kennedy Jr. On Obama Administration: If Asked I Will Serve
So he is starting with Rahm as Chief of Staff.. I don’t have much of a problem with that (remember, I am closet DLC) but I was hoping maybe Daschle would get that one. At least it gets him out of Congress and contention for the vacant Senate seat. I am sure he will be in line for something along the way.
RFK Jr. at EPA works for me.
repug possibilities to feign reaching across the aisle…
Hagel
Lugar
Chafee (no longer repug)
Powell
Weld
Leach
I think Lugar has already taken himself out of contention. Hagel would be good in some defense-type of job.
I wonder about RFK jr- is he the type to kick tables over and take names? It’d be a politically feel-good nomination and I can see him in some sort of enforcement-type appointment but I think we need some hard-nosed executive who has run a large organization before who’s ready to show a lot of rethuglican waste-piles the door. 😐
Powell for ambassador to Iraq- he can apologize for fucking things up so much.
Richardson for Secretary of State
Rachel Maddow for Press Secretary
I like Rahm Emanuel
:barf:
Change means new faces, not the same faces with new titles.
feeling bad trav or is that from Rahm?
I think Rahm is a great choice because he won’t take any prisoners. You have to have a strong gatekeeper to keep both dems and thugs in line. We do NOT need another Reid-type anywhere in that new group – too nice.
It’s from the thought of Powell and Richardson in an Obama administration.
trav, i agree with this – we need some with experience:
Why Rahm Is Right
I’m with fk. If Obama is going to continue to be a nice guy, he needs at least a few assholes around him to keep order. Rahm can be that asshole. Goodness knows he’s been there before. 😀
I would, however, make the appointment conditional that Rahm be forced to write 100 times on a chalkboard the following:
THE 50-STATE STRATEGY WORKS. HOWARD DEAN IS BRILLIANT.
This will serve to keep Rahm humble, and it will feed Dean’s ego at minimal cost to Obama.
:rofl2:
I like Bobby Jr. for EPA too. Let’s give him some power and see what he can accomplish with it.
Rachel for press secretary? As if MSNBC would let her out of her contract. She would be an interesting choice, though. At least the press conferences would be more lively.
Lieberman as Secretary of Transportation, just to get him out of the Senate.
I think Ron Sims wants that title, PJ.
It depends on what the meaning of change is.
Change does not mean new faces at all. There is plenty of room for experience, especially the right kind.
You may not want to put Robert Rubin back in economic matters but I sure would like to see Robert Reich in the mix somewhere. Bill Richardson is a very talented man who would be a tremendous change from what we have in foreign policy right now.
Finding repugs who can be useful and worked with would be another big change from how things have been in the last 8 years. It also has a lot of symbolic impact. And better that they be RINOs and not useless ideologues which I suspect many of the newer repugs are.
Sometimes the best way to effect change in something is with those who know best how things are and how they can be changed. Plenty of ideas can also be brought in from a staffing level. This O’Bama juggernaut was full of capable folks who will find their way into positions in the government. They will be the ones who will make things happen and rise in the next 8 years.
give me a minute
More good news: Malia and Sasha are going to get their puppy!
:pup:
Yeah right, Powell does have the right kind of experience. I withdraw my opinion.
Jamaica bandleader Byron Lee, 73, dies from cancer
The musician founded the band Byron Lee and the Dragonaires band in 1956 at age 20 and recorded several ska and calypso songs, including “Tiny Winey.” The band soon signed with the West Indies Recording Limited label owned by future Prime Minister Edward Seaga.
🙁 :bong: :gate:
Say what you will about Powell, finding him a place where his expertise could be used might be a good thing. There ought to be a major revamping of the military and perhaps he might be someone who is respected who could help make things happens. I’m not saying he should be the UN ambassador.
Being exclusionary or snide is not going to get us anywhere. Openness and inclusiveness. might be the biggest change of all
O’Bama has indicated that he would likely have some repugs in his administration. Perhaps you all can come up with some better candidates.
Powell for Education Secretary…I didn’t know that he was so well suited for the position.
Eisenhower was a pretty good republican- trying to think of some that might still be alive.
still thinking
Seriously though, I think Powell might be a good choice for Sec of Ed- it’s the leadership experience more than being a specialist in that field that counts the most. And whoever gets picked for any of these cabinet positions has to make it a priority to get rid of the wingnut idealogues in management.
Just no more fuckin neo-cons in charge of anything :growl:
How bout Elliot Spitzer to clean up the Justice Dept? Isn’t he a republican?
Uh…no.
I think you’re thinking of Patrick Fitzgerald
Sorry, my bad. Who was the prosecutor from Chicago who went after Cheney over the Valerie Plam outing? I’ve having a senior moment- actually several moments every day.
thank you
Actually, that could be a stroke of genius. The Dept. of Education is a favorite target of wingnuts, fundies and home schooler types. To have the Dept. run by someone of Powell’s stature (and yes, he does have some) might deflect their attempts to derail efforts to rebuild education in this country.
I have to say that the disappointments here in Az kinda killed my buzz last night. But when I heard Hartman’s show and people from all over the world calling in and tearing up, my heart swelled and I got choked up. Finally! The nightmare is over! A guy from Kenya said they were having a national holiday because of it! Wow! I feel like we could be part of a World community. :gate:
It’s too bad Spitzer took himself out. Perhaps in time his misdeeds will be forgiven and forgotten the way it works for repugs like Newtie, Delay, Liddy, etc. Heck, Stevens may have set a record on reputation rehabilitation.
Speaking of Nadir…
I’m leaving my Obama sign in the yard with a sign next to it with blue sky, parting clouds and a rainbow that say, “Our national nightmare is over” or “The nightmare is over”
Hey! Everyone that can, rescue a dog for Obama! I am! :pup: I hope the Obama family rescues a pup from the humane society or the pound and makes a big deal about it with cameras and everything. And I hope it’s a mutt! :pup: :pup:
Okay, I’m making a plea to the Obama family to adopt a pup from the pound or the Humane Society. Here is my letter to him.
Let’s all encourage him to do this!
A clearly divided Supreme Court on Tuesday debated indecent language for an hour without anyone using the words in question.
Circumlocutions like “the F-word” and “the S-word” sufficed as the court considered the year’s highest-profile free-speech controversy. All signs now point to a tight decision over whether broadcasters can be fined for allowing use of so-called “fleeting expletives,” which are swear words used in passing.

What does number 4 mean?
Here are a few things I found –
Balance
Being Grounded (eg the Earth element)
Organization
Hard work
Harmony
Dependability
Represents The Emperor in Tarot
Stability
Law & order
Building of foundations
Practicality
Dedication
There’s a lot more out there, but…I’m not up for searching or doing much more thinking today in general. The first big step is taken, anyway, now for the rest of the journey.
KP, I like the adopt a mutt idea.
Why do people keep saying the Democrats now have 56 seats in the Senate? By my count they have 54 with 2 independents caucusing with them. Don’t think I would count on Lieberman mush longer he stopped attending the caucuses when he decided to support McCain. I think he wanted a place in the history books as the first veep candidate on both tickets.
Re:71
And don’t be afraid of the fact that The Emperor is the #4 card in the Tarot. If the attributes are positive it is a good and compassionate Emperor. As always, there are negative attributes if the conscience isn’t pure. So, we have to keep his feet to the fire.
Yeah, Sue, I think it’s an opportunity get people to be compassionate about the animals of our world.
Senator Joseph Lieberman (I-CT) expressed fears to radio host Glenn Beck of a Democratic majority in the Senate.

Thursday will be Senator Lieberman’s “day of reckoning,” according to a Capitol Hill paper.
“Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is scheduled to meet with Sen. Joe Lieberman (ID-Conn.) on Thursday to discuss his future in the Senate Democratic Conference, according to a Democratic Senate source,” Tim Taylor reports for Roll Call

Nice jackets!
Lie ber man has got to be sooo out of here :fu:
caught Oprah today – never happens. She has a two-day post election show. Very moving. (except for one flaw, peggy :barf: noonan who was syrupy sweet and unauthentic.)
She pointed to “In Our Lifetime” put together by Henry Louis Gates, Jr. at http://www.theroot.com/
(this 4 thing is interesting, btw)
two cents on the dog thing. I know there are a ton of homeless dogs. I’ve taken in numerous of them, kept some and found homes for others. But I also celebrate the purebred dog. My dogs’ breed can be seen on 11th century tapestries in France. Thomas Jefferson first brought the Briard to America. There is a lot to be said about a pure bred dog. If dog breeding is done responsibly, and that is a huge if, a pure bred dog can also be a fine choice. (now be kind to me guys!)
Nudie suits
I just watched the Seder minus Maron election show from last night and as the saying goes, that’s 90 minutes of my life I’ll never get back. I hope he isn’t screwing up the AAR deal/MvS brand putting out shit like that. The most embarrassing amateurish thing I’ve seen in a while.
vernon- you must have been reading my mind. Since you posted Graham I’ve been trying to remember who made those. I think John Denver had the first one that I had heard of.
But everyone who’s got a Nudie probably owns several of these too
http://www.rockmount.com/
If you watch today’s mvs it might make up for it. Marc had some great video. I couldn’t watch yesterday- can’t believe they posted it.
Hey Travis…how do you make those mini Yootubes? :knit:
Yeah, I think Vernon may have a more respectable explanation
At the end of the embed code you can change the ratio of width and height.
I did see the show today and that probably why I was so pissed off about the other thing. Seder fancies himself to be the brains and genius of the duo but Maron just kicks his ass on every level.
Oops. on Countdown tonight they mentioned RFK Jr, Caroline’s cousin, as the possible EPA chief but the picture on the screen was RFK Sr.
Rachel got it right (RFK’S picture) she’s the real brains of msnbc.
I like Sammie but the best show of the most recent reincarnation was the one where Marc was by himself and Sammie was having Seder (the meal).
Maybe since the elections over there’ll be more production talent used towards both of them. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if their contract is only good til the end of the year.
Ummm Yom Kipper maybe? Seder is at Passover
Well, it is becoming fashionable to attack KO and I did not mean to do that. I doubt that he assembles all of the grapics for his show.
He was choking up last night when he called the election. I was just listening to it. There weren’t many dry eyes in the house where I was hanging out either.
So what’s next?
Election Day with Marc
Naked girls on the lapels, weed, amphetamines, reds, things that look strangely like anatomy. Kind of like the story of his last night on earth on one custom made suit.
Well, FK, I am not against pure breeds at all, and if you want a pure bred dog there are countless rescue groups who specialize in pure bred dogs. My room mate has a rescue Yorkshire Terrier who was saved from a puppy mill. There are lots of people out there who have an interest in a certain breed and save them from such horrors and find homes for them. I just like mutts and I like the mutt as a metaphor for Americans. I prefer mutts who are cattle dog mixes. Healers, Aussies and Border Collies. That’s me. But maybe, if the Obama family wants a pure breed they can find a group or a person that rescues them from puppy mills and other abusive situations.
Like I said, Vern, NICE JACKET!
Wish I could partake in such a jacket but I actually have an interview on Friday with the green house job I was telling you about. I’m very excited and a little nervous and hope that my “hippy” doesn’t show through too much and that I come off as more professional than I am. This could be my saving grace and would be a perfect job for the new green era that is upon us! Pray for me that I can pull it off. It’s a little out of my league but I have the interst and passion for such a position.
KO created a liberal space out of whole cloth- I just get tired of his ego sometimes. I think Affleck’s take-off of him on SNL will bring a little much needed humility. Wasn’t meaning to diss the whole franchise.
All I could think of was “Kol Nidre” but I knew sammie wasn’t just off to pray 😳
Carmelo promised to score 44 points in honor of Obama tonight. So far, not so much; 13 at half time.
Ahhh! I can’t take functions! :fustrate: :fustrate: :fustrate:
:smack:
