Much as Bush (and Congress) are in a lame duck period, we’re in a lame duck news cycle. Not that there aren’t important things going on, people still getting blown up in Iraq, the economy in the toilet, and all that stuff, but that’s all old news we’re pretty much numb to (and apparently there aren’t any missing blonde chicks at the moment). Let’s face it, it’ll be a while before we get anything as big as ‘America Elects Black Guy’ again.
So, we’re stuck with people obsessing about how Obama isn’t progressive enough and how he’s got too many Clinton people on his transition team, and lots of obsessive speculation on who he’ll appoint to his cabinet (today the big thing is Hillary for Secretary of State, which she’d probably be pretty good at). It’s all designed to get us prepared for the declaration of this as the ‘Failed Obama Presidency’ as soon as possible.
Does anybody have any doubts about how the traditional media – which spent the last eight years cowering on its collective knees before the likes of Bush and Cheney – will suddenly emerge as relentless pit pulls on or about January 20th? Or that, from the Republican minority, a deafening wailing sound is about to emerge over those mean old ‘do-nothing’ partisan Democrats not listening to them (while they filibuster every initiative the Democrats put forth). The very serious Joe Lieberman – with his chairmanship still in tact – will shake his head and be very disappointed by Obama while he suddenly discovers his oversight obligations and subpoena power. And of course the Democrats will shrug their shoulders, write stern letters, and say there’s nothing they can do, because they ‘don’t have the numbers.’
Of course, there is one bit of news that’s pretty exciting and – like the Obama election – is something I never thought I’d be writing: The New York Jets are all alone in first place in the AFC East! A darn shame the way that old man Brett Favre is embarrassing himself by not retiring, isn’t it? Eat that, cheeseheads.
Let us not speak of football today.
Buffalo 43
Akron 40
In quadruple overtime. The final game played at the Rubber Bowl. Sniff.
And the meeting I took yesterday off to get out of was moved to today.
:fustrate:
Kevin, that’s too bad about the meeting. I hate meetings that have no purpose other than to be a meeting. I have one of those to attend Monday. But, I get paid to sit there, so I do it. Actually, I find a spot as unobservable s possible and I do the crossword and read the newspaper. My boss stands in the front and says the same things she has said for 20 years. That becomes the entertainment as everybody fills in her lines.
FK, thanks for the dog food instructions.
KP, did you give Nellie the amoxi pills?
Months after President George W. Bush and Congress lifted bans on offshore drilling in the Atlantic Ocean, the federal government moved Thursday to pursue oil and natural gas exploration off the coast of Virginia.
The Interior Department began a public comment period on drafting an environmental-impact statement on offshore drilling. The environmental work is the first step in opening 2.9 million acres of waters to a lease sale scheduled for 2011. The area under consideration is at least 50 miles offshore.

No, I didn’t give her the pills, I should probably have a vet check her out. I haven’t seen any puddles the last couple of days but I still want to have her checked out.
My Apple iMac G5 had a major crash :omg: :rant1: 😡 Tuesday, the computer I use for most of my music and video downloading and transfers. It is also my best unit for watching internets video.
Apparently I can only erase the disc if I want to re-install the OS. To Apple’s credit a free visit to the Genius Bar at the Apple store yielded what looks to be at least a solution for retrieving my data if I get my new external HD soon enough.
That’s what I get for slumming.
Doesn’t McCain have a dog named Mr. Puddles?
KP, didn’t you say that your roommate was going to adopt a dog who is being treated for mange? Couldn’t that vet help you out? Could you barter for some time volunteering in the shelter?
Here’s the William Ayers interview from this morning. It’s video but I can’t figure out how to post it, so you’ll have to click on the link. Sorry!

Nah, McCain is the one making the puddles. He just blames the dog.

hmm, think this mac will be backed-up this weekend.
Sue, that vet is waaaay up north in Tuba City. Next week I don’t have much work so I will look into finding a barter friendly vet. In the mean time PRAY for me that I get this green house job. Seriously, I need all the positive energy I can get. It would be my saving grace at this point. I am dealing with a bunch of SHIT with the guy that lives in the guest house and am trying to get him evicted. I should have listened to Nellie about him long ago. She’s never liked him and never really gotten used to him and if she hasn’t taken to someone that comes over right away, she’s gotten used to them after a few visits, but not “guest house guy”. So, I am looking for someone cool to move in there at some point in the next couple of months. But the place needs some MAJOR cleaning because he is a total slob and has been smoking in there for a few years now. So, I have to get him OUT first, so that I can show it. If anyone knows someone looking for a place in downtown Phoenix, small studio guest house with access to a pool, lemme know! :pup:
That was low hanging fruit, Kevin! But I’m glad you expressed it. :rofl2:
New documents have surfaced to show possible prosecutorial misconduct in the case of former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman. Siegelman, whose appeal will be heard next month by a federal court, was convicted of corruption in 2006 in a case that has aroused widespread suspicions of political bias.
snip
The documents include a written statement from the aide saying that Canary “kept up with every detail of the case,” as well as emails from Canary to her subordinates offering ideas for how to manage the case, one of which which ultimately convinced the judge to increase Siegelman’s prison sentence.
The aide also provided emails showing attempts by jurors to warn that one member of the jury was romantically interested in a member of the prosecution team and had even asked members of the prosecution for personal advice. In addition, some jurors who were suspected of improper conduct were interviewed by the prosecution before the judge could speak to them, in direct violation of the judge’s orders.

Normally I’m not much for these mega-church preachers, but in this case….
Sounds kinda like John and Yoko’s “Bed In”, Love Is All You Need!
From Michael Savage via Media Matters:
Well, we don’t even know where Obama was born. His grandmother died the night before the election. There’s a lot of questions around this character that the media won’t answer. Let’s start with what country he’s from. Why was the birth certificate never produced? Why in the world did he take time off from the campaign to visit the grandmother who then suddenly and suspiciously died virtually the night before the election? Tell me about that.
But we don’t need religion to express Love. Down with religion, up with nature! :gate:
Nice birdie pix from Lincoln.
