Hey, shouldn’t you be out buying useless crap from China that you don’t need? I have no idea why anybody would fight the crowds when you can throw you money away from the privacy of your own home in the Internet. Speaking of which, do UPS and DHL deliver today? My new showshoes and “Dead Space” have made it to town. One for if we get snow, and one for if we don’t.
Oops, gotta go. There’s a Blue Light Special in aisle #3.
I would not dream of going to any store on Black Friday. I hate shopping on any day, much less one on which I will be pushed, elbowed and squished. Yeck!
Most of my shopping will be done online. The little granddaughter wants a real quartz crystal (I cannot figure out why) so I’m going to go to a rock and mineral shop at some point, but that might be fun.
We had a really nice, very quiet Thanksgiving, just hubby and I. How did I become such a misanthrope?
Lincoln (one of my favorite fellow misanthropes) has posted some peregrine falcon pics with a disapproving commentary on their bathroom habits.
And, darksyde at Dailykos, has posted a video linking turkey anatomy and velociraptors.
Cool videoe, Sue. I haven’t been watching tv at all and I miss shows like that. Well, I think the turkey was a success and I impressed my possible future boss. The guy that offered me the green house job came over for turkey. I just wish I knew for sure because many things are up in the air right now and I have very little work scheduled. 😯
Maybe malls will be used to house homeless people who have been foreclosed. 😕
The Christmas spirit at Walmart:
A Wal-Mart worker died after being trampled when hundreds of shoppers smashed through the doors of a Long Island store Friday morning, police and witnesses said.
The 34-year-old worker, employed as an overnight stock clerk, tried to hold back the unruly crowds just after the Valley Stream store opened at 5 a.m.
Witnesses said the surging throngs of shoppers knocked the man down. He fell and was stepped on. As he gasped for air, shoppers ran over and around him.

KP, how many people showed up for your Thanksgiving dinner?
Craigslist Posting Results in 32 Guests For Thanksgiving Dinner
About fifteen actually showed up.
The real Christmas spirit can be seen in the comments to that news story.
Levi-Strauss turns 100!
He must have some pretty good genes.

Agreeance. And it doesn’t get less unpleasant later in the day. Usually I don’t venture out either, but I had to go to Target because I’m out of apple juice, and they have it for $4.09 a gallon, whereas it’s pushing six bucks at the supermarket.
The flipside of going at 2 PM is that by now all the earlybirds have either moved on to the mall or gone home, and the store is now filled with zombies pushing carts at 2 MPH. It was like freaking Dawn of the Dead in there.
Fortunately, I was able to escape with the desired apple juice and about the same amount of brains as when I went in.
Oh crap. I just remembered Akron finishes the season against Temple today. Can’t imagine why it isn’t on TV. Time to look for an update.
I went out this morning for some provisions and I have not seen things so quiet everywhere I went. At the Asian market they were actually speaking to me in English trying to sell me fish. Usually, I am invisible there.
Final score:
Akron 6
Temple 27
The Zips finish the season at 5-7 and are not bowl-eligible. Not that they would be invited anywhere had they finished 6-6. You have to be Notre Dame to pull that off.
The new on-campus stadium is scheduled to open next season, so something to look forward to. I’ll miss the Rubber Bowl, though. It was an armpit of a stadium, but it was MY armpit, dammit.

Sorry about that. I wasn’t trying to post it three times.
Anybody catch the score of the Akron/Temple game?
What game? I’m not sure… Maybe. 🙄
Hey Sue, Just one showed up. The important one. Which is fine, more leftovers for me!
I heard that Walmart story this morning and was really disgusted. The worst of America. It would be interesting to know if things like that happen in other countries. I would hope that this economic crisis would bring people together in a community spirit. Like The Who’s in Whoville after the Grinch stole Xmas. But apparently we haven’t lost enough just yet. That story makes me hate Walmart even more, even though the situation wasn’t really their fault. Walmart is the epitomy of greed to me and they nurture greed by the way they run their business. So it’s karma if they get bad press from this.
Jeff doesn’t seem to be on air today but he’s got music playing and, as you know, he plays GREAT music! http://www.thejefffariasshow.com/
Jeff and his wife are playing now. But the sound is fucked up. :smack:
