In a new twist on “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?” (except George Bush is no Spencer Tracy, and Pickles is certainly no Katharine Hepburn), Barack Obama visits the White House today to check out his new digs. It just might be the thing that makes Sean Hannity’s head explode. We can always hope, anyway.

Maybe Hannity, Limbaugh, O’Reilly, and the rest of their ilk ought to move to Poland:

“Someone regarded by the (American) Republican right as a crypto-communist has become the leader of the world’s greatest power … and al Qaeda are rubbing their hands with glee that the new president wants peace, not war,” Artur Gorski of the opposition Law and Justice (PiS) party told parliament last week.

“The black messiah of the new left has crushed the Republican candidate John McCain, and America will soon pay a high price for this quirk of democracy,” he added.

“Obama is an approaching catastrophe. This marks the end of white man’s civilisation,” he said in an address.

I guess Gorski’s speech went on for hours, mostly because of a typo that had “over” printed on both sides of the page.

Booblehead Thread

Here we have it, the first booblehead day of the Obama era. As such, it’s minority day on Press the Meat, as Tom “retire this putz already” Brokaw hosts Valerie Jarrett, co-chair of Obama’s transition team. Plus, former RNC Chair Sen. Mel Martinez, & House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-SC). Then a political roundtable with Doris Kearns Goodwin, Jon Meacham & Mary Mitchell.

Over at Faze the Nation, Bob Schieffer has Rahmbo Emanuel, John Harris of the usually incorrect Politico, and NY Times schmuck, David Brooks.

Weaselface Wallace hosts a crying jag with Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind and Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va (both Obama states), and also one from the winning team, John Podesta, Co-chair Obama-Biden transition team. Plus all the usual fuxheads, of course.

It’s more Rahmbo on This Weak with George Snufalufagus, plus an “extended” roundtable with Fareed “token” Zakaria, David Gergen, Cynthia Tucker of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and (of course) George :jerk: Will.

CNN’s Late Emission includes Harry Reid (show Joe the goddamn door, Harry), the Governator, Arnold Schwarzenegger, another visit from John Podesta, and then Wolfie trots out the black folks: Touré, a BET Correspondent, former U.S. Civil Rights Commissioner, Mary Frances Berry, and Grant Hill (NBA player).

Later, on 60 Minutes, Steve Kroft reports from behind the scenes on election night with the Obama campaign, Scott Pelley reports on where the millions of computer monitors, cell phones and other electronic crap we generate ends up, and Morley Safer reports on Ted Turner and life without Jane.

Giants/Eagles on Sunday Night Football, too. Almost takes the sting out of having t go back to work tomorrow.

Have a good one.

Saturday

Once again it is Saturday and PJ is sleeping late. As always, I question how he has convinced Siggy and Fritz to let him do so.

PJ, if you have some method that allows you to convince your dogs to allow you to sleep late ONE day a week, I would like you to share it. I’ve tried explaining to mine about Saturday, but they just don’t get it. Or, more likely, they just don’t care. Either way, they and their feline cohorts always manage to get me up and moving in the direction of the kitchen.

I’m still pinching myself, every morning, to make sure that there really is a President-elect Obama. I don’t think he is the savior that an old lefty like me envisions, but he’s not McInane, or Ghouliani or….you know, any of those crazy, myopic, fawning, egomaniacs that ran for the Rethug ticket.

I wonder if those congressional Rethugs will start insisting on investigating O’s birth certificate, or whether he’s a secret Muslim. Let’s hope that the Attorney General he picks does not have the same faulty reasoning that led Janet Reno to appoint Ken Starr and forget to put any restraints on him.

The good, if very mundane part of this Saturday, is that it is raining. That means hubby can’t work outdoors and therefore he will help me paint the ceiling that I have to do. I hate painting ceilings.

Have a good one!

Oh, those poor, poor Republicans. Seems they don’t approve of Rahmbo being Obama’s Chief of Staff.

“Barack Obama’s first decision as president-elect undermines his promise to ‘heal the divides,’ ” said Alex Conant, a spokesman for the Republican National Committee. “Rahm Emanuel is a partisan insider who played a lead role in breaking Washington. … Our nation will be ill-served if Obama runs the White House the way ‘Rahmbo’ ran the Democratic Congress.”

What a shame. He really ought to appoint only Republicans to his staff and cabinet. After all, there’ll be a lot of them out of work in a couple of months.

Looks like you guys were pretty busy yesterday. So, I guess it takes a black guy getting elected president to get us over 10 comments these days.

It will be interesting to see how the cabinet shapes up, and whether Rahm Emanuel makes a good Leo McGarry or not (though Obama is closer to Matt Santos than Jeb Bartlett). So far, it looks like Obama will be getting a nice honeymoon as new president. I certainly hope he can get some things accomplished quickly, but the past eight years have been a huge money grab that have left this country devastated. I don’t know if anybody can fix things at this point – certainly not right away. Oh well, at least gas is getting cheaper.

Stayed up way past my bedtime last night, but it was worth it. Still a few Senate seats up in the air, but I’m too tired to think about them. Have a good one.

So, we actually made it to this day. I had my doubts. This thing feels like it’s been going on forever and a day. The polls here in NY open in about an hour. Don’t forget, odd/even voting is in place this year, with Democrats voting on the even day (today), and Republicans – rather aptly – voting on the odd day (tomorrow).

I plan on leaving for work a little bit early and voting on my way in. Hopefully it won’t take too long (I doubt there’ll be much of a line, but I have to figure out how to use the new voting system).

Then it’ll be a long, long day at work, following all the leaked exit polls and the stories of voter suppression that will no doubt be coming from all across the country. All while pretending to get some work done.

Then, of course, comes the hours of waiting for the polls to close, and the returns to start coming in. The Chat Room will be open for everybody who needs an e-support group on hand to make it through the night. We also want to hear from everybody as to how their local races are going. In the NY 25th, we’re poised to have a Democrat in the House for the first time in, um, well, in as long as I can remember.

DirecTV has an ‘election mix’ channel on, offering split screens of the four broadcast networks, plus Fux News (oh boy), MSNBC, CNN, and another one rotating between live Comedy Central reports and the BBC. It’s also going to have a live blog running with results analysis and exit polls. So, I’ll be splitting my time between that and Dan Rather’s live election coverage on HDNet.

The polls close first in the eastern halves of Kentucky and Indiana, at 6:00 EST (sorry to be an Eastern Time Zone Chauvinist, but all the times coming up will be eastern). There won’t be any presidential returns in until the rest of those states polls close an hour later, but we might start to get a look at how some of the Congressional races are shaping up.

The real fun should begin then, because at 7:00 EST, when, besides IN and KY, the polls close in Georgia, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Vermont, and – what might be the first bellweather state – Virginia. Most of Florida closes at 7, too, except for the panhandle (aka, south Alabama).

More excitement at 7:30, when Ohio, North Carolina, and West Virginia close. Not that we’ll probably be hearing from OH anytime soon. NC looks pretty close, so that could prove quite interesting, too.

Things really start to heat up at 8:00, as a bunch of states close, including what could be the biggest prize of the evening to that point – Pennsylvania.

Among the states closing at nine are Minnesota (go Al!) and Colorado (and NY, of course, where we’ll be giving our 31 electoral votes to Barack Obama – should be called at about 9:02, I predict).

I’m kind of hoping it’ll all be wrapped up by the time the polls close in California at 11:00 Eastern, so I won’t have to stay up half the night waiting.

So, anyhow, have a good day, keep your fingers crossed, think good thoughts, and let’s hope this plays out better than 2004. And if you’re in NY, vote Row E (Working Families Party).

It’s just too bad that Obama’s grandmother couldn’t have lived to see him elected President.

Back in 2004, I took the day after election day off, so I could stay up late and relish the victory. John Kerry had kicked Bush’s ass in the debates, and it was more then obvious who the better man was. Needless to say, that didn’t work out so well, so this year I’ve decided to take the day before election day off. Hopefully this will work out a little better. Frankly, I’d have gotten nothing done at work today anyway.

Tomorrow is a huge day for this country. It aint about whether Barack Obama is the perfect liberal, or my #1 choice, or whatever else it is that the PUMAs or the Naderites or the ‘pure’ people think is the only candidate worth supporting (here’s a clue, folks: no matter how wonderful your candidate is, if they can’t get elected, then they aint gonna get much done).

Tomorrow is about whether this country can shake free from the shackles of ignorance and racism, and elect the obviously smarter and better-qualified candidate over the dim-witted evil old white guy (and his white-trash running mate). It’s also about whether or not the Republican Party can be slammed into the ground where it deserves for bringing about the most corrupt and destructive group of criminals to have ever run this country (and that’s saying a lot, because we don’t exactly have a pristine history here).

The Republican Party has all but destroyed this country. They deserve to go the way of the Whigs. I only hope tomorrow will bring about the crushing blow that will signal the end of this vile, despicable bunch.

Then we get a week to be happy before we start jumping on the Democrats’ asses.

Did you sleep an extra hour this morning? Or just find yourself with an extra hour to kill? Either way, it’s the final Booblehead before the 2008 elections, so surely they have some very important information to impart to us today.

First off, thanks to the NYC Marathon, Press the Meat will be on earlier today, at 8:00 AM Eastern. At least in NYC. If you actually care when it’s on in your area, check your local listings. For Obama, Tom Brokaw has John Kerry. And the best he could scrape up for McCain is Grampa Fred Thompson. Then it’s a roundtable with the very serious Dean David Broder, the Gilligan of the NBC News team, David Gregory, NPR’s Michele Norris & Chuck “the schmuck” Todd.

Over at Faze the Nation, it’s the Obama campaign’s David Axelrod, li’l Lindsey Graham, DSCC chair Chuck Schumer, and his Republican counterpart, John Ensign.

Over at Fux News Sunday, it’s the battle of the campaign chairmen, as Weaselface Wallace hosts Rick Davis from Grampa McCain’s campaign, and David Plouffe for Obama. Plus Pillsbury Dough Nazi Karl Rove will show us “his” math. And the usual fuxheads will be on hand as well.

On the Goebbels network, George Snufalufagus trots out David Axelrod and Rick Davis one more time, plus there’s an “extended” roundtable with Time’s Mark Halperin, political mastermind Donna Brazile, Matt Dowd, and George :jerk: Will.

CNN’s Late Emission pairs up PA senators Bob Casey and Arlen Specter, and then a quadrant of Governeors: Tim Kaine, (D) Virginia, Mark Sanford, (R) South Carolina, Tim Pawlenty, (R) Minnesota, and Deval Patrick, (D) Massachusetts.

Later, on 60 minutes, Lesleh Stahl tells us how returning reservists are getting the shaft, Katie Couric reports on a fake cop, and Scott Pelley looks at a Brain/Computer interface.

Enjoy your Sunday, ‘cuz it’s gonna be dark early tonight.

Today is the last day I wake up in the dark because we get to turn back the clocks this evening and give ourselves an extra hour’s sleep. Of course I have probably failed, once again, to teach the animals how to tell time so I’m sure that extra hour will be spent trying to convince them that it isn’t breakfast time, yet. Eventually, of course, I will give up and feed them but the very idea that I have that extra hour will continue to be a pleasant thought.

As a old lefty, I am incapable of being confident about an election, especially after the many demonstrations of election stealing and slimy voter suppression by the Republicans. Just as they claim to be the most Christian while behaving in the least Christian manner, they claim to be the most freedom loving and democracy protecting while destroying every instance of freedom and democracy they can.

But, I continue to hope and hold my breath. Election day is coming up fast.
