The good news is my snowshoes came yesterday. The bad news is there’s no snow. The good news is I feel like crap, so I wouldn’t be going out to use them anyway. The bad news is that the dogs didn’t get out yesterday, and I don’t know if I’ll be up to getting them out today, either.
Brooklyn congresswoman Nydia Velazquez is a good person, real lefty and her chief of staff is very active with Working Families. 2 out of 3!

Nydia would be excellent! Good call, Sue.
😀
PJ, time to crawl back into bed and sleep until you feel better. The dogs will survive.
I’m looking for a microscope for my little granddaughter. I thought that would be easy but it’s proving a lot harder than I thought. It has to be sturdy enough to be handled by her and simple enough to be focused. I found this one at Steve Spangler, a good spot for kids science toys, but I’m sure it’s plastic.
I can’t find a store where I can go to see the actual object.
Why do I get these ideas?
There’s rumors that Bill might be appointed. 😮
I don’t know about that one, but if you have a Discovery Store near you, they sell these.
This one looks a lot like the one you were looking at, with an Orion brand name. Not in stock online, but maybe at the store where you could look at it.
Then there’s always Toys R Us.
This one, branded C&A Scientific, looks pretty similar.
One of the reviews of it at Amazon says:
Here ya go.
Don’t Trash That TV
Feb. 17, 2009, will be a significant day in television history. That’s the day TV stations will no longer broadcast analog signals. This will allow public safety communications to use that part of the spectrum, but your old TV may no longer work with digital signals — unless you have a converter box (go here to get a coupon to use toward purchasing a converter box). Many old televisions may be thrown out because of the conversion.
I got one of those converter boxes for $25 with the coupon. I actually get a few extra stations via multiple signals from several stations. However, I get a fair amount of drop out in b’casts and often not a sufficient signal from stations I used to get best. I still do not get the area NBC affiliate. I will probably also have to go buy souped up antennae for my TV sets for which there are no coupons and even then I am not sure it will help. :tap:
Several people, most notably Harry Shearer in my world, have been complaining about this for years. It sure smacks of a corporate welfare program to me.
I got my converter box and I’ve lost two public stations, but hey there are now five dgital channels of the christian filth known as TBN. It seems Harry was right about all of it.
Harry Shearer live in the KUOW studios right Now..
Just as I am leaving town..
Hey, the Dems might pick up another Senate seat! Granted, it’s two years from now, but what the hell.

Alex Sink. Florida’s next senator. Learn her name. And remember that you heard it here first.
Thanks, PJ. That is great information and I’ve found a Discovery store on 42nd Street in Manhattan which I will be visiting. I really appreciate the help.
Christian Filth. Good name for a rock band.
I remember Christian Death. Naturally, they were Goth. I got digital cable, I’ve been a TV slave to it for years now.
Feel better PJ, I’m being a stoned out blob on my couch after getting oral surgery. Milkshakes and hydrocodone, mmmmmm.
Better make sure that store actually still exists, Sue. I was looking online, and it looks like they closed their retail stores.
Yay! bout time…
U.S. Supreme Court: State Medical Marijuana Laws Not Preempted by Federal Law (American’s for Safe Access)
http://www.safeaccessnow.org/article.php?id=5614
“It’s now settled that state law enforcement officers cannot arrest medical marijuana patients or seize their medicine simply because they prefer the contrary federal law,”
A legal ruling that makes sense? Who’da thunk?
Wow! The Supreme Court justices must be high!
PJ, I called the Discovery story and learned that bricks and mortar are soooo 90’s. I think I’ve found one place where they sell microscopes and I’m going to pay them a visit. If they don’t have an appropriate one for Nina, at least I’ll get to ask some questions. The Discovery Store, besides being cheaper than the one I found, also has phone ordering so I can find out which carrier they use to ship stuff. You know my loathing of Fedex.
Christmas shopping takes all the Christmas spirit out of Christmas. Bah humbug!

The Onion, right? :bong:
Yay! for the Supreme Court! I wish I could celebrate. :bong: 🙁
Marijuana Laws Not Preempted by Federal Law
CAVEAT——–
This ONLY applies in California, and while we correctly quoted the Headline, it was wrong!
SCOTUS refused to grant review [certiorari] to the California Court decision, so that means absolutely zero in the context of any other state’s procedures. Only that it applies in California – for now – under that California Court’s decision……
I’m still in a holding pattern as far as the green house job. :fustrate: It’s maddening, especially when I’m looking at an abyss. Apparently, It’s me and another woman left in the running. She has sales experience and I have growing and organic food experience. He said there was a possibility that we’d both be hired but that would probably mean less money. Plus it’s a start up business and I’m sure they’d rather hire one person that could do everything. I got a couple of books about selling. And I will do First Fridays this week and see if I can sell my work using some of the techniques. Should be as busy as it will get, though last month was pretty slow and I didn’t sell a single thing. I have not had very much success at selling in the past.
KP- I hope someday you can support yourself with your art. The pieces sell themselves.
Thanks Art. I’m tired of trying to make a living at art. I’d rather just do it because I enjoy doing it. Then I’m free to make whatever I want and not worry about whether it will sell. Plus I have a practical problem with art, it’s a luxury item that only the rich can afford, especially these days. I’d feel better about myself doing something that actually helps people in a real way. There is so much suffering and art can be extremely selfish.
