So, it looks like Caroline Kennedy is the frontrunner to replace Hillary Clinton as our Senator here in NY. Apparently our Governor, “Blinky” Paterson, has become quite enamored with her. I’m not sure how to feel about that. I’d been hoping it would go to Louise Slaughter, who is both a woman (which is apparently a deal-breaker, to appease the angry PUMAs), and from Upstate NY (Rochester). But she’s apparently thrown her support behind Kennedy. Well, I guess Caroline is at least a better alternative to Andrew Cuomo. There’s at least a possibility that she’s aware that NY State extends north of New York City. One can hope, anyway.
Bad scientest! :pup:

It’s raining….again. Gotta work anyway.
I read about the jealous dogs. The only people who would wonder if dogs get jealous is someone who hasn’t been around dogs. Try scratching one of mine behind the ear and the other is sure to nose her way in, demanding that she too be scratched. Mayhem would ensue if one were given a milk bone and the other weren’t.
The cats are a bit more self contained. But, they too want whatever anyone else has.
Off to work!
Is it raining cats or dogs and is the one jealous of the other being used as a metaphor? 😯
Re #1
I hope our tax dollars weren’t spent on that study. Anyone with more than one dog knows that dogs are as envious as anyone. In fact, I think I can safely say that dogs experience most of the same emotions that humans do. Although, I believe they have been spared regret because of their short attention span. Especially Nellie. :pup:
Minn. Recount: Franken, Coleman Vs. ‘Lizard People’
Morning Edition, December 16, 2008 · In Minnesota, Democrat Al Franken’s bid to unseat Republican Sen. Norm Coleman hangs by fewer than 200 votes. An initial recount began Nov. 4. Now, election officials plan to meet Tuesday to review thousands of challenged ballots that may help dec
Al does not seem to get a lot of love among the ‘real’ progressives (not pure enough, wrong on the war, too pro-Israel) and his former AAR hosts. There seems to be a lot of ambivalence fed by some resentment and jealousy as well as lingering anger over Franken’s reluctance to embrace the ‘stolen election’ meme from 2000 & 2004 and its purveyors. To use a favorite Franken word, there is a bit of schadenfreude in the air.
Whatever happens, neither candidate will have much of a victory and will probably have a tainted 6 year term. I would suspect Al would be a gracious loser and Coleman his usual assholiness waiting in the weeds. I imagine Gov. Pawlenty might also contend in 2014 at the end of his possible 3rd term as governor if he does not win the 2012 repug presidential nod and election.
Of course, Coleman may well be on his way to the big house, which might actually be more fun if it happens while he’s a sitting Senator.
Jealousness and my cat, Clifford:
When I make food for the dogs, Clifford insists on watching and hindering the process, usually by siting in one of the dog bowls. When I get the bowls full of dog food, Clifford insists on eating some of it.
Initially, I thought he just liked the dog food, but when I offer him some or put it on HIS plate he will not touch it. But, if it’s destined for a dog’s mouth, he will try to eat as much as he can before I serve it to the dogs.
However, he does have a magnanimous side, too. He will get on the shelf on which I keep the milk bones and push them off and into the waiting paws of the dogs. Is it because he likes the dogs? Gets some kind of remuneration from them? Likes to watch them get into trouble for stealing the bones?

A federal appeals court today upheld, in part, a decision striking down provisions of the Patriot Act that prevent national security letter (NSL) recipients from speaking out about the secret records demands. The decision comes in an American Civil Liberties Union and New York Civil Liberties Union lawsuit challenging the FBI’s authority to use NSLs to demand sensitive and private customer records from Internet Service Providers and then forbid them from discussing the requests. Siding with the ACLU, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit found that the statute’s gag provisions violate the First Amendment.
snip
The appeals court invalidated parts of the statute that wrongly placed the burden on NSL recipients to initiate judicial review of gag orders, holding that the government has the burden to go to court and justify silencing NSL recipients. The appeals court also invalidated parts of the statute that narrowly limited judicial review of the gag orders – provisions that required the courts to treat the government’s claims about the need for secrecy as conclusive and required the courts to defer entirely to the executive branch.
snip
The court, therefore, also ruled that the government must now justify the gag on the John Doe NSL recipient in the case, a gag that has been in place for more than four years.

Today’s show should be mostly Maron v. Maron with maybe a little Brendan.
Maron also seem to be back on IM while in Cali.
 :yippee: :fire:
’twas really nice to have an all Maron show. I like the 1 hour Maron, 1 hour Maron & Seder, 1 hour Seder idea.
I have been having continued Apple horrors so I was not able to hear the whole thing and am not very sure how to catch the after shows. I did hear the BlogFather’s initials today but was not sure what was being referred to.
vernon- Is there any software you recommend that would allow me to transfer music I’ve downloaded from my iphone to a new computer? Mostly CD’s I already owned. Everything I find online the Norton Security is telling me “unknown publisher” I don’t want to corrupt the new PC
I didn’t hear today’s show, but you were probably listening to yesterday’s show, when I IM’d Marc regarding the “shoe incident.” I said that Condi Rice said the Secret Service reaction was so slow because nobody could possibly have known that they’d use shoes as missiles.
art, I really use the iTunes program a lot even though I do not use the iTunes store. You might have a shot at it retaining some of the info attached to the files.
pj, you were mentioned in today’s show, probably the after show which is not up yet. He was sort of apologizing about something, probably yesterday.
Oh, well, I can’t imagine what that would be about. Too bad we had our office holiday party this afternoon, or I’d have heard it.
I know Marc gave it out accidentally on mvs, but I’d just as soon not have his phone number be posted here.
ok. :nana:
I want his phone #. Can you send it to me by email? I’d like to boost his ego by calling him a bunch of times. Especially when I’m drunk! :alc:
Yes yes blogfather
KP- just listen to yesterday’s show
Have I mentioned how much I hate knitting lately :fustrate: :fustrate: :fustrate: :knit2:

Haven’t had water in this place for a day and a half and I’m now seriously wanting it. :cold: We live on the 49th, you’d think the pipes would be insulated for pity sake. :tap:
