Monday, bleh. But at least it’s a short week; I only need to make it through two days. More snow today, they say, but not too much. Depending on which way the wind blows (and it’s blowing at about 30 mph right now, which means it’s a little brisk out there this morning), we might get up to 4 inches by quittin’ time, and then another batch overnight. I might have to get Granny a new shovel for x-mas.
Happy first day of of Chanukah (or, I guess it actually started at sundown last night; forgive my ignorance, but the only reason I know when xmas is, is that I can’t get the hell away from it, and that damn music everywhere. It’s like being stuck in an elevator from Halloween ’til MLK Day). Anyhow, keep your shamash lit.
It’s Monday, it’s cold, anywhere there was water or snow is now ice. But it’s a 2 day week , so no complaining from me -right now, at least.
KP are yo starting your new job, today?
Yesterday was the shortest day of the year. That means today we get a couple more minutes of sunlight. I hate these dark mornings. Makes me feel as if I’m going to work in the middle of the night.
One year the geniuses who ran NYC decided that we would save energy if we remained on daylight time all year. The result was little children walking to school in the dark. The worst part for me was going to pick up my class before the sun rose. It was depressing and of course, when all was reviewed, it hadn’t saved a thing.
Happy Chanukah.
Personally, I think they ought to set the clocks ahead another hour or two in the winter. I don’t care if it’s dark while I’m stuck at work. I want some daylight when I get out. As for the kids, it would be a form of natural selection. Kids too dumb or careless to avoid getting run over in the dark wouldn’t survive to pass along their genes. In a few generations, we’d be a nation of people who could see in the dark (and maybe with luminescent skin, too).
The new job starts next Monday. They have to do the background check and get the results from the drug test. UGH. And yes, I signed the paper for them to do a credit check. :smack: I hate this shit but you do what you gotta do, I guess. If it wasn’t such a potential life changing opportunity I may have walked out like I have many times before.
Crap, Frangela is on Steph’s show all week. I can’t take them. :smack: They make my ears bleed. I think I’ll listen to Sedition Radio instead. Thanks PJ!
a ton of snow over here at 47°28′ N 120°19W
the grocery store is out of vegies and almost out of milk products. Guess this is why they invented canned cow.
kev, loved that Turkish shoe story!
It’s snowing again and we already have well over 14 inches. My syped tires are performing pretty well with all-wheel drive. I found using the tiptronics works better than automatic. My foot keeps looking for a clutch, though.
I’m working from here this week instead of heading back. better get to it.
Where do you live 49N 122W ? I’d love to go sledding.
but first, there isn’t a “war on x-mas.” there’s a war on labor:
Blagojevich Case Used by Republican-Allied Foes of Labor
I’m in Wenatchee WA at the moment, Kp, and tons of people are sledding – anywhere there’s a hill!
I spose I could go up north if I could find someone to drive.
Hey Krista, turn your radio back on. Thom Hartmann is having a guest on during his 2nd hour to discuss Mike Connell. I can’t remember the guest’s name, it isn’t Larisa Whatshername that he’s had on before.
But big ups to Thom for jumping on this story.
:fist:
Okay, thanks Kevin
Sledding?
Don’t try this at home: :knit:

The Republican consultant accused of involvement in alleged vote-rigging in Ohio in 2004 was warned that his plane might be sabotaged before his death in a crash Friday night, according to a Cleveland CBS affiliate.
snip
Without getting into specific details, 19 Action News reporter Blake Renault reported Sunday evening that 45-year-old Republican operative and experienced pilot had been warned not to fly his plane in the days before the crash.
“Connell…was apparently told by a close friend not to fly his plane because his plane might be sabotaged,” Renault said. “And twice in the last two months Connell, who is an experienced pilot, cancelled two flights because of suspicious problems with his plane.”

The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration are now investigating the crash. According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, no new information has been made available since the incident occurred.

Thanks, Sue. If Hartmann can’t break this story, maybe the three of us can do it. 😀
This would be perfect for Olbermann to cover, but I bet he’s on vacation this week and next. Hopefully Rachel is live tonight.
Krugman columnizes:
Life Without Bubbles
NCB replies:
Sir, I read your column often, as I do others. I keep getting the same message from all of you. Our economic crisis is a product of George W. Bush. I agree but only to a point.
Bush 43 policies have been a real drag on the economy, but the man didn’t do it alone. A Republican Congress played a major part as well. But none of this would have been possible if it weren’t for the groundwork laid by Bush 41 and Reagan. And that leads us to a generation worth of GOP policies, platforms and philosophies.
Bush didn’t wreck the economy and create the ultra rich. The Republican Party did it and it took 28 years to do it. Call it Nixon’s Revenge.
When I saw that headline in the NYTimes Online this morning, I wondered why Krugman was writing about Michael Jackson.
Well, that was fun. My 5 mile commute home took over an hour, thanks to a steady barrage of lake effect snow (and nasty cold and wind). Then another hour or so of shoveling the driveway (and it’s still coming down like crazy). This is shaping up to be one of them old tyme winters where it snows every day.
Jeff Farias has a documentary on about the experimentation that happens to our soldiers http://www.thejefffariasshow.com/ . This is one of the reasons why I would never join the military. There are other reasons, of course, but this is a big one.
Crap, it’s over now. But I think maybe it will be played again.
Congrats on the job Krista! I’m a little behind on the blog…what is it?
Cripes! Why wouldn’t you start taking commercial flights at that point?? :smack: I’m sure he could afford first class being a republican operative and all.
Thanks Andy, I’m working for an organic green house now. I will be selling and growing. I got past all the background checks and the drug test, so, I’m in! I am so thankful to have a job and to be out of the art biz. Not that I will stop making art, I just won’t have to rely on it. All my friends in the municipal art centers are experiencing layoffs and cut backs BIG TIME. I would think that food production is recession/depression proof.
that’s great news, kp! You’ll be happy to have the steady income. And like SP said, you can complain about work instead of no work!
