Finally, the weekend is here. And it’s even a three-day weekend. I think. I’m still a little up in the air as to whether to take Monday off or not, but I hate to pass up a three-day weekend, so I’m leaning towards taking it off.
Pretty big weekend, TV-wise, with the beginning of the end of Battlestar Galactica tonight, SU hoping to bounce back from the pummeling they got at Georgetown when Notre Dame comes to the Dome tomorrow, the Obama pre-inauguration festivities on Sunday afternoon (for those who won’t be watching the NFL Division Champisonship games), followed by the season 3 premiere of Big Love, the second season premiere of Fight of the Conchords, and the series premiere of The United States of Tara, all on Sunday night.
Gotta get through today first, though.
I missed this yesterday.
Forgive and Forget?
Paul Krugman writes
Last Sunday President-elect Barack Obama was asked whether he would seek an investigation of possible crimes by the Bush administration. “I don’t believe that anybody is above the law,†he responded, but “we need to look forward as opposed to looking backwards.â€
I’m sorry, but if we don’t have an inquest into what happened during the Bush years — and nearly everyone has taken Mr. Obama’s remarks to mean that we won’t — this means that those who hold power are indeed above the law because they don’t face any consequences if they abuse their power.
Maybe he’s just saying that so they don’t run and hide.
Four-day weekend coming up for me. Tuesday off to watch the inauguration, and Monday off to celebrate the end of the eight-year reign of terror that is the administration of the Chimp in Chief.
Although, to my credit, I made it through the farewell address last night without throwing up or throwing anything at my TV. That probably had more to do with wanting to watch The Office and 30 Rock than anything else, though. (Andy: “Are you sleeping with Dwight?” Angela: “A little bit…”)
You’d think kids would know better. But, as KP once said, perhaps they’re home schooled in Indiana.
I’d be quite (pleasantly) surprised if there was anything more than a cursory investigation, a lot of tut-tutting, and perhaps an underling or two thrown under the bus, at most. Anybody who pushes for real accountability and justice (say, Conyers or Kucinich) will be severely chastised by the Democratic leadership, and/or portrayed as a wacko by the traditional media.
I am hopeful that O’Bama has been keeping quiet about the criminal behaviour so that Bush doesn’t go and pardon everyone as a preemptive strike. However, I am sure it is still on the table and the recent admission of torture from Susan Crawford or cheney crowing about it hasn’t made the possibility less.
I have the same hope about the Middle East and Gaze. He’s not President yet and he does not want to tip his hand when there is nothing he can do yet.
I am going to wait and see what happens even though a lot of people on the right and the Left are already attacking and proclaiming like he has been in office for 4 years and everything is Barack’s fault.
Some conservatives have argued that the law creating the program, the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, which Congress passed hastily in October, violates constitutional principles that limit the amount of power that lawmakers can delegate to the executive branch.
snip
Now the FreedomWorks Foundation, which was founded in 1984 and declares itself to be “leading the fight for lower taxes, less government and more freedom,†says it plans to file a lawsuit against the program.

Apparently the only way conservatives think the executive should gain power is by usurping it. (I’ve always enjoyed their consistency!)
I must apologize for #6. I tried to delete it but it was too late. I thought about it a day or two ago but now I am hearing the statement on the Stephie by one of her callers and her and wanted to disassociate lest I look like I was stealing from lame sources.

🙁 :gate:
That wonderful landing and rescue of the plane passengers on the Hudson River was union-made from the pilot to the ferry crew:

That plane seemed like a metaphor for where the country is at right now- and the possibility of the ones most at risk making a safe crash landing with all of us as a people helping in the rescue and feeling good about it. Letterman kind of alluded to something like that last night.
(I’m sure the survivors would object to being a metaphor for anything)
Damn, all I ever get are my neighbor’s crappy magazines.
My apologies if this has already been posted here but this is a pretty interesting and eclectic list of the 50 most loathsome people of 2008. Neither bush or cheney were #1.

I’d like to go back and add “funny” and informative but I can’t.
I dunno, some of those were pretty darn funny.
I found it at the “Rude Pundit” site. He’s pretty funny too (in a pissed off way). He put coulter through a verbal shredder a few days ago. Worth reading why he didn’t want to waste a day of his life writing a book refuting her bullshit. :slap:
Though their lease may technically run out on January 20, U.S. Attorneys Mary Beth Buchanan of Pittsburgh and Alice Martin of Birmingham are resolved to stay in their posts. The Daily Beast has learned that both are arguing to the Obama transition team that their efforts to convict Democrats should guarantee them an extended stay into the Obama presidency.

Local TV just spent approximately 15 seconds reporting that the Colorado budget might be cut 1 billion $ including health and education- then spent approximately two minutes on Michelle’s style and what that’s supposed to mean to all the little people. Must remind self that change is not in the cards for MSM- probably in my lifetime.
US LAWYERS battling against torture and other abuses at Guantanamo Bay are braced for George Bush issuing last-minute pardons to protect those in his Administration most closely implicated.
The lawyers’ warning came after a senior member of the Bush Administration, Susan Crawford, admitted for the first time that torture had been carried out.

Man! why can’t I get so lucky! But now I can say I sell grass to even a cop. WHEAT GRASS! :nana:
Re: 13:
I love the illustrations, especially the one of Lieberman. Sam Seder would like that one too.
Re:13
Even the ones I didn’t agree with were funny. Sam and Mark HAVE to see that so I emailed them the link. I especially like the sentences. I bookmarked that site.
I read that RudePundit slam of Coulter a few days ago. Wow.
She is mentally unbalanced. She claims she can’t understand what Kos or Arianna Huffington say because they have strong foreign accents. Kos?
I am so dismayed at the idiots, crazy people and morons that have the publics’ attention. Really, I am. :smack:
I love that Arianna Huffington sounds like Ava Gabor. Oli-Vah! 🙂
I’m jealous of KP who got her text to sammie read on air a couple of days ago who was jealous of whoever has marc’s phone number. Also, I’m jealous of KP because marc said “I know Kristapea”. I think she gave them her own phone number. :tap:

Just got word of this-
In case you are not aware, or have not already done so for your cell phone number, today is the last day to register your cell phone. After today, numbers
will be released to companies.
The call must originate from the cell phone assigned that number…then they still can solicit for 30 days, but not after.
If you need to register call 1-888-382-1222
That’s just a rumor, Art.
