So, it’s finally here. In just a few hours, we’ll be rid of the Bush Administration. This really is a special day for this country. A day I never thought would happen in my lifetime. It’s a shame he had to inherit a nation in such horrible condition, but all you have to do is listen to him to know he’s the smartest guy in the room, and if anybody can lift this country up, I think he’s the right man at the right time. I hope so, anyway. He’ll do things I won’t agree with (already has, actually), but, for today at least, let’s all just enjoy being witness to history, and let ourselves be filled with (dare I say it?) the Audacity of Hope.
For those who won’t be able to watch on teevee, but can get to a computer, I’ve put up a page with the Hulu live stream of the events (also linked over there on the right, under “Pages”). Things get rolling at 10 AM EST.
Moving boxes, my ass. He’s probably spent the last month bent over a shredder, and now he can’t straighten up.
Looks like this was great fun
If my Granny buddy hadn’t backed out & it weren’t such a pain in the ass to find a place to stay & drive down there & then have to deal with the security bullshit and cold, I would have gone. It’s much easier to see it all on the teevee anyway. I took the day off, so I’ll have to take the :pup: :pup: to the park early.

don’t know how that happened
dupe deleted again
Inauguration Day. Finally. I thought we would never get here. I’m still surprised that Chaney didn’t declare a national emergency which required that he become the government and invade Iran. I guess we are lucky.
I’m going to work, but I’ll be through in time to hear the ceremony and the speech as we drive up to spend the day at Jenn’s house. Work is a good place for me to be today.
I wonder if Obama slept last night. He’s pretty cool, but contemplating the hole out of which he must climb, pulling all the rest of us with him, must be daunting. It would certainly get my stomach in a knot.
Things are a bit strange here as the three cats, who thought either that Minnie was a very large cat or that they were small dogs, look for her. I can’t explain to them what happened, thank goodness, as I will have to, to my granddaughter. But, I’m getting it together for the most part. All the heartfelt sympathy from all the Seditionists is appreciated.
Blog later. Have a good one!
Goodbye, Bushco! We’re not going to miss you.
Since you’re off all week, Granny, you can get started on this. Step 1 already done.
Oh, in checking Hulu, it looks like things will start at 9:00 EST.
#7 — It says this doesn’t work for indoor/outdoor cats because they don’t like the drama :cat: :cat:
I don’t need any more drama in my life, either. 🙄
Well, gotta get a move on to get :pup: :pup: to the park.

wow- entering the whitehouse :yippee:
I think a friend just texted me from the inauguration :cold:
Finally and at long last I think I can feel this low burning rage starting to lift. I hope it’s real and not a momentary high.
The Young Turks are also ocvering this event.

OK, frog march Cheney out of there and into prison now.
He is one hell of a speechifier & he knows how to say exactly what we all want to hear. :yippee:
It will be interesting to hear what he is really saying when the reverse speech folks play it back backwards :omg: :dancers: :slap:
Very nicely done and delivered :nixon:
PJ and fellow bloggern, Marc and Mark,
THANKS for keeping me sane during the long years of the Bush era.
Congratulations on surviving!
Kind of a dark speech- I’m sure ‘Bama knows how bad things are more than any of us can imagine. He sure didn’t go for the cheap applause line. Honestly I feel more glad the giggling killer is gone than a warm glow about ‘Bama being president.
Is it just me? Maybe I’ve been listening to Hartmann too much. Maybe it’s just that I”ve been up all night.
I was listening to Marc and Sam last night. Marc was feeling the glow- Sam was saying “prove yourself” Policy trumps rethoric. I’m with Sam.
By the way, did Chief Justice Roberts sabatoge the swearing in or is he really that unprepared? “Bama had to correct him.
buh, bye :nana:
good friggin’ riddance
Chocolate City works, too!

I thought of that when Aretha was singing! “And Aretha Franklin… the First Lady.” 😀 Shame about the hat, though.
Enjoyed watching the helicopter take Chimpy and Pickles away. “Jetpack… ENGAGE!” So long, asshole. See you at the war-crimes trials.
Enjoyed more listening to Obama shit on Bush’s policies while Bush was sitting only a few feet away. Hope Obama’s ready to turn words into action.
And now, the best part of taking the day off work… Jerry Springer.
OMG I LOVED Aretha’s hat! Being a hat fan, THAT was a hat!
Sadly there are reports that Senator Kennedy has been taken from the luncheon…
and maybe Senator Byrd
Watching it live now & NBC is speculating something is going on with Sen Byrd & they showed ambulances standing by.
PJ thought Arethas hat looked stupid. What do men know. I thought it was pretty snazzy & would make a great Granny hat, especially with all the sparkly stuff. I LOVE sparkly stuff :yippee:
It was Sen Kennedy — described as seizure that “lasted a period of time” 🙁 Sen Byrd left on his own during the luncheon
Couldn’t have the day go totally without a hitch.
I was hoping that a huge UFO would show up when the helicopter took off & suck it up into a Mother Ship.
:penguin: jeffy says obama not president because he took the oath wrong………
I am worried about the Lion although it might be OK according to Mondale.
That hat thing I love. My white mother used to do the church hat thing. It is a cultural thing, Black and White, Southern, outlandish, outrageous…
Chief Justice Fumbles
I think he was Prez at Noon EST no matter what.
He is even Prez here now.
tough times for Senator Kennedy… he seems to be a real trooper.
****
There is a great tradition and history regarding women’s hats. And I agree RG, love that sparkle!
This is a wonderful book.
(that’s why I use that photo – it’s the hat! => )
(One of the best children’s books – Go Dog GO – “Do you like my hat? I do! I do! I do like that hat!”
Ha! I didn’t know this — Bill Frist saved Gen. Petraeus in 1991 when he was accidentally shot in the chest during a live fire execise. All those cats died to save that piece of scum. 👿
They mentioned this when they were trying to figure out if there were any doctors in the room when Kennedy started seizing. Not that they could do anything — the only thing you can do when someone is having a seizure is get shit out of their way so they don’t break any bones and call 911. Too bad this sad drama happened but it’s red meat for the media to harp on.
I’m sure they pumped him full of Dilantin or Keppra, or whatever the anticonvulsant of choice is.
…. Geez, Michelle looks cold — doesn’t look like she’s got a very warm outfit on — unless she’s wearing thermal undies underneath. :cold: :cold: :cold:
#29 — Jeffy is
 what’s up with entries duplicating themselves? 😳
This coverage in HD is amazing — it truly is almost like being there, only the camers show a whole lot more than you could possibly see being there. What a Police state. We the People are barricaded off with double fences and double layers of police. That does put a chill on it for me, but the crowds are still enormously enthusiastic. It is amazing. 😮 :cold: :cold: :cold:
FK — that church lady hat book looks GREAT! :jesus:
LOVE the photo, Granny!
we made it!
love y’all!

#39 — Looks like a really nice house, Sean — It is over 100 yrs old, so hopefully you don’t have any mischievous spirits hanging out there that will bother you :reaper:
I know someone who can help with clearing out such troublemakers if needed. HOpefully, only friendly spirits will be there to greet you & hang out. Best of luck — gonna have a housewarming party? :40: :40:
😐 no i will move in then run back off to work
Dow comes crashing down, under 8,000, signaling the failure of the Obama presidency, much to Rush Limbaugh’s glee.

We share a birthday. Actually, I had it first but I’m willing to share. Just the kind of guy I am.
Thanks for trying, Vern. I’m a hard case. But, I gave it a try.
Sounds like Teddy might be OK!
Sue, html tags must be between < and > signs. Anything in between those is treated as a tag, and isn’t displayed as text. Instead, the code between the tags is interpreted by the browser, and the appropriate “stuff” is displayed on the page.
For an image tag, you need to tell the browser that it’s an image, by using “img” and specify the image “source” (which is just its location on the Internet), using src=”whatever” (in the case of the image link you posted, it would be <img src=”http://images.huffingtonpost.com/gen/59061/thumbs/r-BUSHOUT-large.jpg”> ).
You can optionally also add alternative text to be displayed if the image fails to load for some reason, or to be read by screen readers used by the sight-impaired. For that you use alt=”alternative text to be displayed”. You may also (if you like) specify an image width and/or height (in pixels), if you don’t want the browser to have to interpret the image size on its own, or if you want to specify the image size differently for whatever reason (for instance, here, there’s something like 450 pixels worth of screen real estate before things will leak over into the side navigation). For the image you linked to, the width is 600 pixels, so that would be too large and you’d want to scale it down some.
Finally, though it isn’t required in this case, it’s good form to “self close” the tag. Most html tags require a start and end tag; one to tell the browser to start doing something, and one to tell it to stop (for instance, to make bold text, you’d do <strong>This text is bold</strong> which would give you This text is bold. Image tags don’t need an explicit end tag, but you can stick a “/” at the end of the tag to self-close it (which makes it xml compliant, but isn’t actually required). So, for your image, you might want to use something like:
<img src=”http://images.huffingtonpost.com/gen/59061/thumbs/r-BUSHOUT-large.jpg” width=”400″ alt=”Bush Out!” />
Which would display this:
Oh, neat. The Coalition for Clean Coal just took the opportunity to use the Obama inauguration to advertise on CNN using clips of Obama hawking “clean coal” as the greatest thing since sliced bread. Very savvy of them.

Aretha’s Hat :omg:
Looks much better on her.
     😳
Again!!!! 😳
I’ve never seen anything like all this. It’s so good to see those cute little kids in the White House, and just as good to see that their gramma will be there, too. I hope they’ll all be safe, and that my President (so nice to have a President that I can be proud to call “mine”) will be able to get things turned around again – not just back on track, but on a better track than we’ve ever been on before.
for FK and all HBO to broadcast updated content
That’s nice. Can someone scrub the jesus out of Warren’s prayer now?
Thanks, PJ. I’ll give it a try as soon as I have some time.
It’s been quite a lovely day. We have a brand new president, one who makes me hopeful. It’s certainly a change from the past 8 years.
I have to say without any of my usual cynical skepticism and pessimism that today was a good day.
At least I can wake up in the morning and not be revolted by the thought and sight of the First Family. And that’s a good thing.
Things just have to get better and thanks to all of you for all of your patience and simpatico through these trying times.
Yay! HBO! (h/t Heron!)
Vernon – whose hat is that?
Granny = :spank: you ruined a perfectly good hat. #53
Seanie – awesome!
I’ve been watching CNN and following the Obamas. What a great day. Obama at the Commanders’ Ball was awesome. Team Obama is already at work stopping the thugs. CNN reported that right after Obama took the oath, team Obama raced back to the White House to stop Bush’s last minute attempts to change law. America is back. I might not agree with everything Obama. But at least I know the man has the country’s interest at heart and not simply and only the shareholders’.
It’s exciting to have kids in the White House AND GROWN UPS!
The following were signatures on emails I received from two Episcopal Priests discussing HBO and Bishop Robinson:

49er, still upset they made the SF Boys and Girls Chorus turn their ski caps inside out to hide the 49er logo. Yeah, that is the bad commercialization of this event. Must have been a gay thing.
You know, it does not take a lot of people to register protest sometimes. They once took Harry Shearer and LeShow off the air here in SF for a quarter because up to 3 people complained to the local station about a representation of the Oliver North jury.
Colette, I was a ‘Canadian’ when I was in Greece years ago.

Holy crap! Are all houses that cheap in Buffalo? Wonder if the wood floor is salvagable under that carpet.
Re:44
Yeah, fuck heads like Rush have no problem with people suffering as long as he’s right. What a fuckin’ asshole. Will someone kick his ass please?
people are so phobic, vern.
Boy Oh Boy do you know where to get HATS! Great site, thanks. I took a hat making class or two.
