While our esteemed Governor has been trying to screw us over by pushing for huge cuts in non-essential services like healthcare and education, and telling state workers they should forgo a negotiated 3% pay increase, it turns out he secretly doled out pay raises to his “inner circle” of as much as 46%. Way to go, Guv. And fuck you very much. I know Granny is happy for your pals, seeing as she routinely works 36 hours (if not more) for 24 hours pay. This is the same Governor who said the last thing you want to do is tax millionaires, ‘cuz that would be bad for the economy (or something; never did quite get his reasoning).
Paterson is doing such a great job, he currently trails Andy Cuomo by 32 points among Democrats for the 2010 nomination. If only there were more millionaires in NY, Paterson would be doing much better, I guess.
Poor Republicans. They’re so proud of (and charged up by) their unanimous opposition to the Stimulus Package, they decided to launch a “we’re back” campaign (which personally reminds me of the movie Poltergeist) using Aerosmith’s “Back in the Saddle” as a theme song. Unfortunately, they didn’t ask Aerosmith. They really need to stick to Toby Keith.
Stimulus bill signed, Obama now heads to Kristapea’s neck of the woods to launch the War on Foreclosures. Maybe KP can go see the President with her boss.
Halfway (almost) through the week, and more than halfway to March. Sure is nice to see some daylight after work again. Have a good one.
I guess people have been camping out to see Obama. 🙄
Michelle Bachmann: “We’re Running Out Of Rich People In This Country”
pj, we live in two of the richest states in the nation and we seem to be riding on separate train wrecks thanks to replacement governors. It isn’t fair that we have to be the victims because they need to lower the bar for Pawlenty and Jindal. Really, it is the Cali Senate repigs who are fooking things up here but how Arnie became guv was nothing short of a coup assisted by Enron.
To be fair to Paterson, the mess we are in now in NY is really more the fault of Pataki and the Republicans, who kept cutting taxes when times were good, apparently thinking the ride would last forever (H. Carl McCall, who should been our Governor warned them about all this, but was, of course, ignored). The State Senate has long been ruled by the idiot Republicans, and the Assembly has been ruled by the idiot Democrats. Not a very impressive bunch. I think Spitzer would have been a good Guv, personally. But for some reason we care about people’s personal lives or whether they smoke a bowl every now and again. And Eliot really shoulda known better.
It is the same here. The repigs have the advantage of the super-majority requirement for tax increases and make the most of it. They really don’t care if this state goes down the drain. Ahnuld has no control over them and neither would have Gray Davis. Maybe their obstruction will finally be shown for what it is and enough Dems can win to end this lunacy. The Dems are not that impressive either.
We need to have a really strong gubernatorial candidate next year that might have some coattails. I know all we be glad to hear that I think the best choice would be DiFi.
Elliot really should have known he was a target. dunce cap for him.

I found that ny post cartoon with two white cops shooting the monkey horribly distasteful. I’m not linking to it on purpose. The nut jobs are coming out of the wood work.

This one really hurts…
New Orleans guitarist Snooks Eaglin dies at 72
🙁 :gate:
vernon- I really enjoyed Snooks a whole bunch. Never heard of the guy. What a complete musician. Sounds like he was the biggest obstacle to being better known. Sad.
Snooks had his own world in NOLa and did not get away much. He started as a street singer and had a rabidly devoted and extensive legion of fans down there and around the world.
I know a lot of folks who will be hurting and lost this year at Mardi Gras and JazzFest which will undoubtedly be dedicated to him.
Thanks, Vern, for all the music you post. Even though it’s post mortem. I am expanded. :jesus:
Thanks. Sometime I feel like I am spamming the blog but then I remember that pj is such a blog nazi that he would ban my ass in a  if I were too much of a problem.
It is sad that these days they are usually connected to passings but it is nice to be able to look back and find some of these things and remember.
Marc says Lawton will be on tomorrow and he will be trying to connect with Jim Earl. Not so sure how into that he is but people keep bugging him (hint, hint). :hubba: He had Bruce Cherry on today.
:sammy: :fire:
I love your posts, too, Vern. I didn’t know Snooks either, but sure enjoyed that song! (pj is going to be mad you said he bans people – watch out!)
will try to catch marc tomorrow. found out SouSou needs knee surgery, and OMG how expensive. :yuck: Went to Canada today to see a specialist – a bit cheaper with the dollar, it’s an outstanding clinic and closer to me, but I could buy a few Briards for this! (don’t tell Sousie Girl I said that.) :spank:
