It’s Governor’s Day on the teevee this week.
Starting off on Press the Meat, it’s that wonderful example of piety, Bobby Jindal, who had the courage to turn down a small fraction ($98 million out of $7.68 billion – about 1.2%, if you’re counting) Louisiana’s share of the stimulus package. That would be the ninety-eight million dollars that would have temporarily extended unemployment benefits to the citizens of Louisiana. He’ll be damned if that commie bastid Obama is gonna force him to help out his people (and, really I’m sure unemployment is no concern in LA, right?). What an tremendous piece of shit this asshole is. Also up, Charlie Crist (who’s at least smart enough to take the whole pile of money when it’s offered), plus Bloomberg’s Al Hunt, NPR’s Michelle Norris, and CNBC’s Becky Quick.
On CBS’s Faze the Nation, it’s HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan (hey, how’d he get on?), NJ Gov Jon Corzine, IN Gov Mitch Daniels, and OH Gov Ted Strickland (I wonder if he’s any relation to Buck, the TX Propane mogul).
On Fux News Sunday, Weaselface Wallace has PA Gov Ed Rendell, MI Gov Jennifer Granholm, SC Gov Mark Sanford, and MN Gov Tim Pawlenty. Plus the usual fuxheads, of course.
No Governor’s Day would be complete without the Governator himself, Ahnuld Schwarzeegger, and the Goebbels network has him. Ten, joining George Snufalufagus at the roundtable are Paul Krugman, NYU economics preofessor Nouriel Roubini, Business Week columnist Suzy Welch, and (of course) George :jerk: Will.
Later, on 60 Minutes, Lesley Stahl brings us the debate on lowering the drinking age to 18 :alc: (hey, that’s what it was when I started drinkin’, and look how great I turned out), Lara :hubba: Logan reports on CBS News producer Richard Butler, who was kidnapped and held captive in Basra for three months, and Bob Simon tells us about a Jewish boy found by the Nazis after his family had been killed. They didn’t realize he was Jewish, so they gave him a little uniform and a gun and made him their mascot. Who knew the Nazis were such mensches?
Have a good Sunday.
Clearly Bobby Sheik al-Jindal doesn’t have the Christian compassion to care for his unemployed citizens.
From Frank Rich:
of the most persistent cultural tics of the early 21st century is Americans’ reluctance to absorb, let alone prepare for, bad news. We are plugged into more information sources than anyone could have imagined even 15 years ago. The cruel ambush of 9/11 supposedly “changed everything,†slapping us back to reality. Yet we are constantly shocked, shocked by the foreseeable. Obama’s toughest political problem may not be coping with the increasingly marginalized G.O.P. but with an America-in-denial that must hear warning signs repeatedly, for months and sometimes years, before believing the wolf is actually at the door.

Fast food giant McDonald’s has denied workers compensation benefits to a minimum wage employee who was shot when he ejected a customer who had been beating a woman inside the restaurant.
A representative of the administrator for McDonald’s workers compensation plan explained that “we have denied this claim in its entirety as it is our opinion that Mr. Haskett’s injuries did not arise out of or within the course and scope of his employment.”

I don’t think much of their “food” either!
How terribly ignorant of McDonalds. $300 grand is nothing to a company that size; I’m sure they could have cut a deal with their Worker’s Comp carrier. They could have paid this guy’s bills, held him up as a Mickey D’s hero, and gotten great publicity out of it. Instead, they let some pencil pushing insurance company idiot make them look like huge assholes.
Never could understand why people go out of their way to be stupid.
Stupidity is a bottomless well in america.
I tried to watch the Andrea Pelosi movie about the mkkain-palin supporters on HBO. Just had to turn it off. Maybe it was because I was eating. Maybe it was the guy who was crying, yes literally crying into his beer that Obama was going to be president, that you can’t tell rasict jokes anymore and can’t go to :boobs: bars anymore. (I don’t really think the last thing is true)
After a string of costly bailout and stimulus measures, President Obama will set a goal this week to cut the annual deficit at least in half by the end of his term, administration officials said. The reduction would come in large part through Iraq troop withdrawals and higher taxes on the wealthy.
Mr. Obama’s budget outline, which he will release on Thursday, will also confirm his intention to deliver this year on ambitious campaign promises on health care and energy policy.

Tomorrow I have to go back to work. In spite of being grateful to have a job and in spite of having a relatively easy and sometimes satisfying job, I still would rather have time off.
Lola seems to be doing nicely. She’s all black, very sweet and very cute, of course. On Thursday she was 8 weeks old and weighed 6 1/2 pounds.
I just watched the Maher show. Not one of his best but not awful. I agree Ron Paul needs to go away.
