Sad news this morning (click here to avoid any sports talk)….
After leading by 8 points at halftime, SU finally ran out of gas and lost to Louisville in the Big East Championship game. Too bad.
This was a pretty scary moment:
Fortunately, he turned out to be OK. Now we wait to see where they get seeded for the NCAA tournament. I figure them for a three or (more likely) a four seed.
Also, congratulations to Kevin and the Akron Zips (BTW, Kev, what’s with the kangaroo?) on winning the MAC last night, and earning a trip to the NCAAs for the first time since 1986.
On the lacrosse side, in a rematch of last year’s NCAA Championship game teams, it was SU 14 Johns Hopkins 11.
What the hell, might as well plug my old high school, too, who earned another trip to the NY State Final Four, winning 90 – 61. They’re ranked #1 in the State, and look like they may successfully defend their titles (yeah, they have two tournaments here; first the public schools, and then the “federation” or something that has the NYC Catholic schools in it) again this year.
Will Ferrell as Dubya on HBO last night? Friggin’ excellent (especially that hot Condi, though they neglected to give her the big tooth gap). I gotta teach Granny the Western grip.
In other news…
On Press the Meat today it’s the Chair of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers Dr. Christina Romer and the House Republican Dick Whip Rep. Eric Cantor. Plus, an economic and political roundtable with asno inmenso David Frum, the BBC’s Chatty Katty Kay, Steve Liesman of Corrupt News Butthole Central, and PBS’s Tavis Smiley.
Faze the Nation has Larry Summers, Tom “my head is flat” Friedman, and Mike “The Reverend” Fletcher (“it’s Feltcher!” “Whatever”) from the WaPost.
On Fux News Sunday, Weaselface Wallace has Austan Goolsbee of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers rethug Bob Corker, Barney Frank, chief economist of Economy.com, Mark Zandi and FDIC Chairman Sheila Bair.
Over at the Goebbels network Larry Summers gets trotted out again, plus there’s Mitch “the prick” McConnell, and at the roundtable it’s George :jerk: Will, Frank Rich, Business Week’s Jim Ellis and Robert Kuttner of the American Prospect.
Later, on 60 Minutes, Scott Pelley has a double-lenght segment with Ben Bernake, and Lesley Stahl has “slow food” advocate Alice Waters.
Have a good one.
I shed a 🙁 for you last night, pj. They’ll get it on at The Dance. I did not see the game but they had to be pooped.
The
dickEric Cantor represents the district in which my family home was located. Supposedly his kids go to Henrico County public schools so the may haunt the same campuses that I did. Let me just add that I do not remember any Jewish right wingers being there.back then but taht was a long time ago. Most of my best friends were…BEWARE the Ides of March!
The kangaroo’s name is Zippy. He is the mascot. He’s been around since I was little. I’ve never been able to find out what a kangaroo has to do with zipping or being zippy, since the kangaroo is not one of our faster land mammals.
My guess would be that the powers that be at AU wanted to have a mascot to jump around on the sidelines, and felt that a giant zipper might not be appropriate. How that translated into a kangaroo is anyone’s guess.
A couple of years ago AU started a new campaign/pitch to sell stuff to alumni involving Zippy. The new logo is a drawing of the top half of Zippy’s head, with his eyes glowering menacingly, or at least as menacingly as an animated kangaroo can glower, with the warning FEAR THE ROO.
Yes, it’s dumb, but when your nickname is “The Zips,” dumb haunts your every move. Fitting that the team’s most exciting player is named Humpty. 😀
That reminds me… I need to go digging through my vinyl and find that Digital Underground LP before the next game.
For anyone who didn’t see the game, which I’m guessing is everyone reading this except for me, they played GREAT. The defense was especially smothering… Buffalo had to waste a timeout TWICE in the first half because they couldn’t advance the ball due to being double-teamed and tied up in the backcourt by Zips.
If they keep playing this well, they might have a shot at winning a game or two in the NCAAs depending on where they’re seeded.
The kangaroo being a marsupial has a pouch that seems to zip open and closed during the rearing of offspring like a pocket with a zipper. That’s my theory anyway.
mmm, that sounds reasonable.
Isn’t “AU” short for Australia?
****
Texas is at it again. Science? Wonder how they explain the creation of crude, oil that is, prehstoric zooplankton & stuff.
Texas House Bill to allow Creationist University to grant science degrees
s there no end to the lengths that Texas lawmakers will go to push their religiously motivated, anti-evolution agenda on science education? This time it isn’t Don McLeroy who is in my sights, it is Republican Leo Berman who is a member of the House Higher Education Committee of Texas.
“The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.”
speaking of critters, 2 topics:
1. Watched a bald eagle standing and feeding on top of an old telephone pole outside my window today. It was feasting on a song bird. Watched it rip the smaller bird apart, entrails dangling, gulls flying overhead hoping for some remnants. Now that’s National Geographic in High Def!
2. Watched Dogtown on the tee vee. The show was about rehabilitating Michael F*CKING Vick’s Pit Bulls. It is horrific what they did to those dogs. That man (& his cohorts) should be hogged tied and then some. Prison seems too good for them. I hope they make him do service FOR animals as part of his probation. He should have to serve dogs for eternity. I think you can watch some of it here.
* those videos don’t show you the actual show. There was one female that had been repeatedly bred. Vick’s thugs had every one of her teeth pulled so she couldn’t hurt the males while being bred. She evidently had been a champion and when they “retired” her, they pulled ALL her teeth.
#6 => depends on your definition of “progress.”
Let me adjust my game theory on that one.
Here’s a quote from Lapham
Progress is not simply the slogan of change but something far more discomforting for some.
that’s an interesting thought.
Why do people believe goodness will be discomforting? selfishness? They’ve forgotten the Golden Rule. :gate:
I really liked the explanation that the flood is responsible for the creation of soft tissue fossils. I can’t figure out why that is so, but I know a BS (how appropriate) from Creation U would help me to understand
I’ve been reading about Washington state’s budget woes and these legislators are immersed in some real shit.
nine of the top ten districts with the most foreclosures are Republican and most likely to receive the bulk of any homeowner bailout,

You still have vinyl?
Yes, the difference between conservatives and liberals.
