President Obama went on Jay Leno last night. I didn’t watch it, but of course they’ve had a couple of clips on this morning. Republicans are apparently criticizing his appearance, claiming he is “dumbing down the Presidency.” π Irony is truly lost on these people.
I lost two games in my bracket yesterday, as my two “upset specials” failed to pan out. I guess it just doesn’t pay to pick the underdog this year. I hope that trend continues into today’s games – especially the one in Miami at 12:15 EDT. I want a drama (and overtime) free game. You never know with SU, though. I still vividly recall them being the first #2 seed to lose to a #15 (the Richmond Spiders, who I shall forever despise, but not nearly as much as I despise Keith Smart). We watched that game in the hospital while my mom was having a triple bypass. That open heart surgery for my mom would, ironically, be the beginning of the end for my dad. But, no time (or heart – so to speak) for a sad story this morning.
Speaking of sorrow, I’m very sad that tonight is the series finale of Battlestar Galactica, which bows out with a two hour ending. If you haven’t been watching this show from the beginning (particularly if it’s because you “don’t like” SciFi), you’ve really missed out. I only wish I could afford to buy all four seasons (plus this one) on Blu-Ray (of course, I can’t even afford a Blu-Ray player).
Also tonight, it’s Real Time with Bill Maher. This week’s guests (barring any changes, of course) are Madeleine Albright (aka, Vincent Gardenia in drag; who knew she worked as a pin-up model?), Keith Olbermann, Kerry Washington (most definitely not Vincent Gardenia in drag), Senator Boynie Sanders, and Andrew Ross Sorkin, of the NY Times and MSNBC, who I don’t really know, but, given the other guests, I’m assuming he’s the designated schmuck of the week (and given his “we gotta pay off the AIG execs with taxpayer money to preserve the ‘sanctity of contracts’” column, I appear to be correct).
Spring officially arrives today, so naturally it’s supposed to dip down into the teens tonight. Don’t forget to bring an egg to work.
Whitey Lockman dies at 82; ballplayer helped set stage for ‘Shot Heard Round the World’
π :gate:
If Whitey Lockman didn’t get that hit in the Series, then young fan Michael Bloomberg would have gone home sulking. He then wouldn’t have done his math homework, which wouldn’t have prepared him for an engineering education. No one then would have made a computer-assisted derivatives trading system that Bloomberg perfected, and that Merrill Lynch started to use in the 1980’s. The rest of the financial players would not have followed suit, and we wouldn’t be in the financial mess we are in now.
That, my friends, was the shot NOT heard round the world.
I didn’t see Obama on Leno, either. Too tired. I fell asleep. But, I assume it will be on Youtube or somewhere.
My little cat burglar (thanks Vernon), not only makes holes in bags of both dog food and cat food, but he likes to find the the dog treats that we put on top of cabinets and such and throw them down to the dogs. Is this altruism? Is there a payback we have not uncovered? Or is he just letting us (and the dogs) know that he runs the house?
:cat: :pup:
Wow! Wonder what the repercussions will be if SU loses this morning?
Get this. The right-wing brain trust is making the assertion that the socialized Canadian medical system is responsible for Natasha Richardson’s death. “There are fewer brain surgeons in Canada than Los Angeles County”. “The Canadian system failed her”.
SU better win so PJ doesn’t start sulking and shut down this blog. That would prevent Jim Earl from stealing the idea for a “What If …?” comedy bit, and re-launching a brief multi-media career that doesn’t go anywhere, because no one cares about that kind of humor.
Well, other than the President looking like a dummy for predicting them to make the Elite Eight, we would have to shift our focus to lacrosse.
At this point, I don’t know as anybody would really notice. I am, however, too stubborn to give up.
Now, if, on the other hand, Sedition Radio were to go down, then I’d hear about it.
BTW, for all those (like me) stuck at work today: http://mmod.ncaa.com/
The sanctity of contracts? When Liddy ran Allstate he fired 6000 agents in spite of their contracts, what a douche.
PJ do you know when the final season of BSG will make it to DVD? I’ve got all of it till this year.
Oh and please fellow Seditionista’s no BSG spoilers till I can watch the last season, I can’t even stream it. (450 kb)
I don’t think they’ve announced a release date, but I imagine it’ll be quite a while.
For Kp
So I woke up this morning with an answer to a test question I couldn’t do in class yesterday. That’s never happened to me before but I’ve heard about others having that experience. I’m not having an eureka moment, though, it sort of pisses me off! Why couldn’t that shit have happened when I was staring at my test for the last ten minutes of class somewhat asleep and dumbfounded with not being able to unravel the question?
I looked on youtube for a clip of Obama on the tonight show, but due to copyright and whatnot there wasn’t any. So I scavenged around and found the transcripts over at the New York Times.
Full episodes of the Tonight Show (including last night) are at http://www.nbc.com/The_Tonight_Show_with_Jay_Leno/video/episodes/
Most NBS shows are available online these days.
lots to comment on but quickly…. the sanctity of contract thing… what about UNION CONTRACTS??? The powers that be are always trying to break those deals. I didn’t hear this argument concerning the auto industry money – they demanded breaking those contracts.
sad about Whitey and Bloomberg :penguin:
Yeah, I went to the NBC website last night before the airing on the west coast of The Tonight Show and the video hadn’t been posted yet.
I left campus forgetting to buy my books today, so I have to venture on out again in the drizzle. I really enjoy buying them because they’re so amazingly fun to read and so gosh darn cheap. :barf:
RE: 16
I can be a ‘tard sometimes.
Oh, yeah, imagine the outrage (OUTRAGE!) if the gubberment had given GM eleventy billion dollars, and they then gave out $2,000 bonuses to their 70,000 or so US Autoworkers. Those goddamn dirty rotten working people getting a couple grand would be an insult to the ‘merican people!
But if a bunch of executives get $165 million in bonuses, well, you know, we just had to do it, and it’s only a few measly millions with an ‘M’ compared to all those billions with a ‘B’ so what are you people all getting your panties in a twist for?
Money should be pouring out of the sky.
I heard recently that like 70 percent or some such of US paper money is cotton.
OK. I gotta skedaddle.
Poor Bernie.
Looking back at post 20 I find that I didn’t make a lot of sense. For a second I thought that it is ‘do to’ and not ‘due to’. But now I absolutely know for sure it is the latter. Sorry for my schizo moment.
There was some prerecorded Maron on BRL today along with Solo Sam.
Vernon,
I liked that Conway Twitty w/ Sam Moore video yesterday.
Was that the Was/notWas producing crew that was there wasn’t it? Or was it not?
Guilty pleasure that I watch every month:
http://www.livefromdarylshouse.com/index.php?page=ep17
This month’s guest is Matt Nathanson.
Loved that video too, Web. I was watching a Family Guy that I recorded, and they were playing Conway Twitty (who was very much under appreciated, IMHO, as is Sam More) and it made me think of that. Dunno if it was/was not or not. Great song, written by Tony Joe White, IIRC.
Yep.
OK, well, one thing leads to another.
WHT, were not me.
Rhymes with DJ. Could have been, though.
I am getting sick of this.

the blog is particularly fun today.
For all you foodies out there. I think what Mrs. O is doing with the WH garden is way cool (okay, you don’t have to read out her outfits if you don’t want – curly bracket stuff, pj).
Here is the garden she’s putting in at the White House. I love her priorities.
“The cannabis experience has greatly improved my appreciation for art, a subject which I had never much appreciated before. The understanding of the intent of the artist which I can achieve when high sometimes carries over to when I’m down. This is one of many human frontiers which cannabis has helped me traverse. There also have been some art-related insights – I don’t know whether they are true or false, but they were fun to formulate…”- Carl Sagan
