Poor Governor Blinky. He just can’t get any love (maybe he should pay for it, like our last Gov). A new poll shows his approval rating is heading towards Cheney territory, at 19%. The scary part is the poll shows he’d lose to Guidi Ruliani if he runs. Gov Guidi. Oy.
Speaking of Dick Cheney, I guess I’m not the only one who wishes he’d STFU. Republicans want him to go back to his cave, too. Who needs Cheney when you have Tammy Bruce, anyway?
Yay! Wall Street executives get to keep their bonuses and our tax money with no strings attached – or else. Coincidentally, the stock market went way up. This is good news for us because, um, because, well, it just is, damnit! Now, if we can just find a way to screw over the autoworkers, we’ll be all set. I think it’s time for Plan B.
Well, hope springs eternal, and speaking of both, Spring Football practice began yesterday at Syracuse, amidst high hopes that our new coach – Doug Marrone – can turn the program around. It would be nice not to have to turn our thoughts to basketball season by the end of September for a change. I don’t know who’s got a tougher job, Marrone or Obama.
Marrone makes more, though.
Yuck! Governor Ghouliani! Judi, Judi as the first lady of NYS. What a horrible thought to wake up to.
I read, yesterday, that Cuomo said 9 of the top 10 bonus recipients from AIG have given the money back. Hell, they have soooo much money another couple of million is of no consequence.

Sunday, (I think) I stumbled upon Brent Bozell MCing something called the Media Dishonor awards. They were “funny” awards given to libruls for stuff that Bozell and his herd thought were biased. I listened for about 10 minutes and tried to imagine that I was a conservative fascist to see if I could find humor in their material. I failed, utterly and miserably.
Bozell’s bit was that Obama is eloquent because he has cue cards. (This after 8 years of a guy that even cue cards couldn’t help.) It went down hill from there. I cannot see through their eyes.
:pup: SouSou had to have knee surgery yesterday. Prognosis is excellent. Recovery will be quite long with much rehab. Going to pick her up this afternoon up near SJ’s way – Vancouver, BC.
this is a lovely little story in Sunday’s NYT magazine. Vern, do you know the song? I’m curious now!
Finding That Song
Yesterday, there was an op ed in the times which suggested a way to return teaching to schools as well as helping students to do better on their reading tests.
As a teacher, whenever I’ve read these plans, I’m always either horrified at worst or disappointed at best. But, yesterday I read a plan that made sense and showed that the author clearly knows what has happened to schooling under No Child Left Behind and the control of Mayor Bloomberg.
I have shown and emailed the article to many teachers and the universal reactions has been something like, “Wow, this is a very good idea.”.
Here’s the oped.
49er, I don’t remember that song by Sarah. Of course it was on the legendary Dusty in Memphis record and Shelby Lynne did it on her Dusty tribute record last year. I’ll have to run it down somewhere. Meanwhile…
This is icky.
thanks, vern, i’m glad to see no obits (so far) today. It’ seems there’s been a string of them.
THAT IS icky and will prompt me to ask yet another question before ALL procedures. (disinfectant? check.)
sp – novel idea – is the system capable of harnessing such a concept?
Got SouSou back in the US of A. Other than looking pitiful, she is putting weight on the affected leg. It’s so good to have her HOME. Loves them doggers, we do!
Get well quickly, SouSou.
Today, a kindergartener asked me why there was a b at the end of lamb. I told her I didn’t know but that it didn’t make any sound. “Yeah, but why is it there?” she asked. I told her it probably had something to do with where the word came from. But she was insistent that I had not answered he fundamental “why?” So, a futile search through some school issued dictionaries led us to a teacher with her own laptop with which we found the Online Etymology Dictionary, and the following explanation:
” The parasitic -b began to appear late 1500s for no reason. In O.E., M.E., and until lately in dial.”
:smack:

Yay Sou Sou! glad she’s recovering )
I love that the unifying theory will be gastronomically based! Great find, Travis, thank you.
