There’s a lot going on in the world right now, and you can always count on the Sunday talking head shows to treat us to the guests most relevant to breaking events.
For instance, on Press the Meat, Gilligan Gregory trots out, um, Grampa Fred Thompson? Really? Was this guy ever relevant? Even when he was a cracker Senator from Tennessee? Plus, another blast from the past, former Senator Sam Nunn. Then there’s “political analysis” from Chuck Todd and Nina Easton. Of course, NBC will also trot out pretty boy reporter Richard Engel (who always seems to have a knack for getting going – the hell out – when the going gets tough, and NBC Tehran Bureau Chief Ali Arouzi. Rounding out the show will be Israeli PM, Benny Netanyahu.
Speaking of irrelevant, Faze the Nation has Grumpy old man John McCain.
Over at Fux News, Weaselface Wallace hosts a fair and balanced show with DINO Evan Bayh, Pete “Hokie” Hoekstra and Karim Sadjadpour, of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Then an “exclusive” interview with GOP “rising star” Paul Ryan. I guess it’s not too hard to be a rising star in the party of crazy old white men (ask Sarah Palin). Speaking of crazy old white men, they’ll also have Grampy John McCain.
At the Goebbels network, George Snufalufagus has Chris Dodd and creepy little Lindsey Graham. Plus the Axis of Drivel is reunited as George :jerk: Will, Cokie “the hag” Roberts, and Sam :omg: Donaldson, are joined by former Clinton Labor Secretary Robert Reich and Bill Keller of The New York Times.
For those of you who’re fathers, Happy Father’s Day! For those who have fathers, do something nice for dad today (even if it’s just to call and pretend you haven’t heard that same story a million times before). And for childless orphaned guys like me, well, I guess you’re off the hook. Sunshine Jim, I hope you’re doing OK today, on this first Father’s Day without your dad. Some of these “first” holidays can be tough. My dad’s been gone for almost 15 years now, and not a day goes by that I don’t think of him.
Have a good Sunday, y’all. And Happy Summer.
Dreary, rainy, cool solstice, here.
The Democratic Party showed on Friday what it’s capable of when led by the majority of its members rather than its conservative wing. In stark contrast to Senate Democrats, who spent the week backpedaling on reform, unified House Democrats unveiled a draft health care overhaul bill jointly endorsed by three powerful committee chairmen.

The public plan would be self-sustaining and not subsidized by the federal government, although an upfront infusion of capital would be needed. It would initially be tied to Medicare reimbursement rates, to capitalize on the existing infrastructure, but would evolve into a separate plan that paid higher rates. Participation by doctors would be voluntary.
Rangel described the public plan as “the best of Medicaid, best of Medicare, then kick it up a notch.” The chairmen estimated the plan would cover 95 percent of Americans.
While the Senate has cowered from the debate over a public option in the face of Republican and conservative Democratic opposition, Rangel said he relishes the battle.

Doctors at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota announced on Saturday details surrounding the first human trials of a prostate cancer drug called Ipilimumab.
In their initial results, the doctors said, two men who were expected to die made dramatic recoveries after just a single dose.

Solstice already?! Wasn’t it just new year’s.
Heck, pj, I sort of think of you as Bloggie Daddy.
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY TO ONE AND ALL, INCLUDING BLOGGIE- DAD! (great cartoon, vern)

Heard Maron rant on cnn’s coverage of Iran.
It’s no wonder cnn is floundering in Iran. First, all the news orgs have cut back on their foreign offices; most have closed the majority of their foreign bureaus.
Second, Amanpour- who was there at election time- is a great interviewer, but she has not been a war correspondent in many many years. She used other correspondents to ferret out the stories in Kosovo. In Kosovo, prices were placed on reporters’ heads (really for the first time), including Amanpours. She, therefore, stopped going out in to the actual active areas. She also wouldn’t go in to Iraq at the start of the second Iraq war, choosing instead to stay in Kuwait. There’s nothing wrong with any of that, of course, unless you’re expecting her to actually do conflict-area reporting. (I might also add that Blitzer refused to go in to Iraq at the start of the second Iraq war, as well.)
thanks PJ!
was just thinking about dad and my dotter as a matter of fact.
missing dad and hoping for a call from Sunshine.
rain here, nice and cool, smells fresh and clean.
the start of a good solstice day.
Here’s to ya, sj! :peace:
So I took the girls to the lake for a romp this a.m. (where I was eaten alive by bugs, but that’s another story). The girls chased two armadillos – their first ones ever! I yelled at the girls to stop, because they could catch them, of course. the little armadillos weren’t the fastest things I’ve ever seen. SO, blogeenies, can armadillos harm doggies if doggies catch ’em?
can armadillos harm doggies?
probably, they usually roll up til the dogs are gone.
they do have some sharp claws to fight for survival with.
Sorry this comment is so late. Worked 19 hours overtime last week, 10 of them on Saturday, so still getting caught up on stuff.
I just heard that Al Sharpton is going to try to broker some kind of resolution to the Albany Circus. This, at least, should be fun.

You know your state is in trouble when Al Sharpton emerges as the voice of reason. NY politics is beginning to make FL politics seem logical.
According to this “Wildlife Control” site:
After reading #12 I am amazed there is anything still alive in Texas.
I used to trek from NOLa almost every spring to New Iberia and Avery Island, a pilgrimage to the mecca of hot sauce. One year when we arrived there was a guy with a Mercedes taking a dead ‘dillo out of his trunk so we had to ask why. Turns out it was a McIlhenny who had not joined the family Tabascoâ„¢ business who had picked up the road kill on his way out to the Island to feed to the gators.
I haven’t much experience with other state pols, but I can say, from experience, that NY State and NY City Pols are at best a motley crew and more usually a useless and greedy bunch. Al Sharpton has certainly demonstrated his self aggrandizing and greedy nature, but at least he’s not stupid. The state senators were supposed to be meeting with him today.
I hope all that overtime, Kevin, is leading to either some rest or some riches.
Daughter and granddaughter were diagnosed with swine flu, today. Both are taking tamaflu (sp?) and recuperating.
The Daily News says the senators met with Sharpton, yesterday. Monserrate thinks he’s like Jesus. Sharpton says one should have his resurrection assured before being crucified and Espada says there will be a deal as long as he remains Senate president.

Damn, Sue. I hope everyone gets well. And you thought you were in the firing line.
I was just talking to someone the other day about Sharpton and whether or not he would be involved in the James Brown biopic. Maybe he has bigger fish to fry.
I figure the entire McIlhenny stock is in a single wooden barrel that they dunk a bottle into. I suppose the perfume bizness is like that too.
Hey all,
Just stopped in to the library to check my email. I get internet next week. All moved out of the house and into my friends guest house. I sure got lucky. The house is moving along fine and I will get a new kitchen out of the deal. :yippee: See ya later!
I hope all that overtime, Kevin, is leading to either some rest or some riches.

The rest comes (hopefully) this week. I might try to negotiate a day off so I can go over to Tampa and check out a museum exhibit that’s about to close. Or I might just spend all of next weekend in bed.
Riches (relatively speaking) should follow in the next couple of paychecks. I’m thinking about donating to Kendrick Meek’s Senate campaign, but still waiting to see whether or not Corrine Brown is going to jump in. MS listeners will remember Ms. Brown from the interview Marc and Mark did with her while she was in the tub. 🙂
WHT, pretty darn close but it was on a larger scale. Why do you think I went back every year? It was hilarious. They significantly changed the bottling plant tours after a while.
I’ve thought the same about beer families, too.
Maybe hot sauce keeps armadillos away. Geez, I had no idea they could be so infectious. There are always dead ones on the road when I drive to Stillwater. I’ve been told they actually jump towards the car headlights and can do some damage to the vehicle.
After reading #12, I think we’ll stick to our walks around town for a while…. Leprosy??? Jiminey Christmas! 😯
Wow, I’ve gotta start looking here earlier in the day. Too much to respond to, but I’ll give it a try.
Starting at the beginning-
yeah, everything on CNN is weak second-hand BS
EXCEPT
Fareed Zacariah has THE BEST, MOST INFORMATIVE, MOST EXPERT panel on bobble-head teevee. Actually it’s a disservice to call it bobble-head. It’s like watching journalism being performed live (without trying to be too ironic). Catch his show from today about Iran if you want to really know what’s going on and what might happen in the future.
Quick healing to SueP’s daughter and grand-daughter.
Happy Father’s Day to pj, SJ and any other’s here and from the past.
Armadilloes as a leprosy-carrying species :omg:
:fu: to the useless NY legislature
:fu: :jason: and :barf: to Senator Udall (pussy D from Colo) for endorsing for absofuckinglutely no reason this early, appointed Senator (with absofuckinglutely no popular suppport), Michael Bennett (complete useless pussy, and voting against anyone’s interest’s) D, from Colo.
and I can’t forget the
:rofl2: :rofl2:
I had reading pj’s summary of the toxic-waste passing for “informed comment” on all of the msm shows this morning.
Why would we ever question the diagnosis of the average ‘ammurican’ :sheep: as the most out of touch citizenry in the universe.?
hey sp, hope your family gets better soon!
I’ll check it out, art, thanks!
