So, the House barely passed a less than comprehensive (but better than nothing, which is about all we can expect these days) energy bill yesterday. Roll Call Vote here, if you want to check up on your Congress critter. Basically, it went this way: 82% of the House Democrats voted for it, 94% of the Republicans voted against it. Three of our “representatives” were apparently too busy mourning Michael Jackson to bother voting (or maybe there were “taking a hike”). As for addressing climate change, this all means basically nothing since, as we all learned on School House Rock, the Senate now needs to pass their own version of this bill – the American Clean Energy Leadership Act, which was marked up in and reported out of the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources by a vote of 15-8 on June 17th. Environmentalists and scientists are not impressed. But, even to get this thing through, counting Joe Lieberman and Bernie Sanders as Democrats (which, in my opinion, is a slur against Bernie Sanders), then any Senate bill would require roughly 102% of Democrats to vote for cloture. Since, even on a good day, the best you can count on is maybe 83% of Democrats, we need to get at least 27% of Republicans, which will be done by further weakening an already crappy bill. Get ready for more nuke plants, “clean” coal facilities, corn subsidies, oil drilling in ANWR, logging in National Parks, and helicopter wolf hunting. Or perhaps I’m just being pessimistic?
For you legal types out there, do we have some sort of a legal right to know the results of Michael Jackson’s autopsy? I mean, I suppose if there was a “crime” involved, it’d be a matter public record, but absent that, is it legally any of our business? Does “the public” have some sort of inherent right to satisfy its prurient curiosity? ‘Cuz, I really don’t think it’s any of our fucking business. Can’t we just give Mike’s (and David’s) families a little peace and respect?
And now they’re saying that all the attention being focused on MJ’s death is good news for the Mullahs in Iran, because the world has taken its collective eye off the Iranian government crackdown (as artnorton demonstrated with his network “news” rundown last night).
What a stupid species we humans are. And people actually believe that some Supreme Being created the entire universe just for us? Man, it just doesn’t seem like we were worth the trouble.
Speaking of trouble, more happy homeowner projects this weekend to attend to. All I lack is the energy to get them done. I think I’ll make a motion that we continue the debate on our kitchen renovation. I’ve got the dogs on my side, as long as I promise to take them to the park. Granny probably has the cats (little catnip whores). So, it’s 3-3, and she needs 5 votes to invoke cloture.
Then again, she hits pretty hard.

Sue P …thinking about your family and hoping they are recovering fast.
Long drive today. I keep forgetting to ask what happened to Seder?
How long will Marc’s solo show last? I like it better without Sam I confess.
Vernon I checked into flights but too dear right now. I hope you have a great time at the show.
It poured last night. The wind raced and there was booming thunder after the lightning. An oak tree splintered and knocked down a beech tree in it’s path as it landed in our backyard. I guess hubby gets to play with his chain saw this morning.
Perhaps ex-prez Chimpy has cleared out all of his brush and would like to display some of his expertize in our backyard. Do you think I should call him?
And a little garter snake is curled up on top of a 4 foot high evergreen. Do garter snakes climb? It’s a pretty dense and prickly bush. Perhaps he was another victim of the wind. He isn’t injured but seems a little confused about getting down. Perhaps he will be another project for hubby, this morning.
Heron, thanks for the good thoughts. All have recovered well.
Yesterday, Marc said he thought he’d be returning to LA in a few months so I assume that is the anticipated end of BRL.

chimpy doesn’t cut brush now that he doesn’t have to try and prove he’s a tough guy. They live in Dal-ass.
Oh my yes. It’s the public-figure-right-to-know statute, the purpose of which is to increase news’ profits.
But death certificates are public. As well, there is the freedom of information act which allows us to get info from government entities (state laws generally are similar to the federal law). Unless there are specific reasons to seal things, a great deal of governmental information is open to the public, upon request.
the Mormons showed up here yesterday. I thought one of the fellows was having heat stroke. I grabbed some waters for them. These guys are doing their 2 year mission here in OK. When I told them I did not believe in their church, one of the guys (scary looking drone, actually) asked condescendingly whether I believed and accepted “JezUS” Christ. So I said, I believe Jesus existed. However, I do not believe in the teachings of Joseph Smith. I don’t believe any religion that states a woman can not get as close to God as a man. God is not sexist, thank you very much.
When I told them I believed Jesus may have been in Tibet during his “lost” years, they appeared most befuddled. The drone tried to shove a Book of Mormon down my throat…..he truly appeared brainwashed with his eyes kind of glazed. He was frightening, actually.
The latest from this week’s evening news. It was a story filed when they were in Iraq.

I was late night VJing yesterday because I had been out seeing Dave Alvin and the Guilty Women. If they get anywhere near you go see them. A sooper group of rootsy women with a great singer-songwriter.
Hard to believe that this was maybe the first show they ever did.
Dave Alvin, of course, formerly of the Blasters (“Marie Marie,” “I’m Shakin’,” “American Music”).

Sammy’s still around. The new format has him doing primarily taped bits away from the studio, although he was in Friday’s show open.
Don’t know how much longer BRL will last. We know AAR can’t pass up a chance to fire either of those guys, and with Kuby getting the sack, I’m thinking sooner rather than later. Hope I’m wrong.
I am guessing they signed one year deals making it worth their while to go back to NYC and man this effort and then not so much support to make it work. They both wisely have a fall back base upstate and in LA. I think Seder is around AA
RM more than it appears but someone decided (wisely) to remove him from the live. My guess is BRL is gone after the year is up.I think given the history it would have been problematic for AA
RM to screw either of them still another time and this whole experiment may partly a make good for past transgressions.Wasn’t he also with the Chipmunks?
Isn’t there a time limit, though? I recall having to show that I was a relative to get extra copies of my dad’s death certificate because he’d been dead for less than 50 years or something.
But, it figures. I have the “right” to know the final contents of Jacko’s stomach and how much his brain weighs, but I don’t have the right to know who visits the White House.
That’s funny, pj. I was in LA almost two years ago when that Alvin movie was about to come out and the billboards were so generic that I thought they might be for Dave’s new record. I had no idea about the movie release. Later that afternoon I ran into Dave in a grocery store and he set me straight.
As for the autopsy details on MJ, I dare say it would probably be to his liking that they come out since he was obviously obsessed with Elvis and it looks like there will be some parallels. I don’t think his family shrinks much from the spotlight either and now tha he has passed they will be hard pressed not to fade into oblivion. I have a feeling they will be milking this for dear life (and death)
Well PJ I managed to successfully update Drupal. Definitely a couple of oh shit moments though.
:yippee:
Good work, Andy. It wouldn’t be fun if everything went easy.
Easy can be fun too.
LDS
I always thought the Church of Latter Day Saints should be called the Church of Saturday Saints, since it always seems to be Saturday when they come and ring my fucking doorbell.
C’mon, you didn’t see this coming?
