We don’t have a Whole Foods around here (frankly, I think they’d have a hard time competing with Wegmans, which might be a lot less trendy, but has better prices, makes a point of selling locally grown food, has a wide variety of organic food – also local – a nice touchy-feely earth muffin section, and, most importantly, an excellent beer selection), but if we did, I’d certainly boycott them (though I’d feel bad about the potential impact on Andy’s job). I’ve long thought that Whole Foods was a scam, and the fact that their CEO is anti-union, opposes public health care, is calling for less regulation of the insurance industry and the downsizing of Medicare…. Well, it just plain pisses me off (especially in light of the fact that Wal-Mart, of all places, actually came out in favor of a public health care option though I’m sure they see it as a cost-savings for them, since they’ve been known to advise their underpaid employees on how to get the most out of public assistance programs).
If I was an upscale, latte-drinking, Volvo-driving liberal, I sure as hell wouldn’t give Whole Foods a dime of my money. If you want to screw the people, at least don’t tell everybody about it in a WSJ op-ed, fer chrissakes. Not if you want to cater to the wannabe-hippy types.
And I’ll be writing to Emeril, too, demanding that he no longer do his “Emeril Green” show from Whole Foods. Bam!
There is a Whole Foods planned for a lot in Park Slope, Brooklyn…not too far from me. They have been announcing its construction for at least 3 years. Then rumors start that they are abandoning the project because of costs. And, as always, Whole Foods says they are going forward and they will be open by….. The opening dates keep being pushed into the future but not a shovelful of earth is ever moved.
I heard a bit of Sen. Maccaskill’s Missouri town hall. Some rowdiness was afoot, but Maccaskill managed to talk and said that Missouri had made major changes in tort legislation, drastically cutting back on medical malpractice cases and costs. Wild applause ensued. Then she said, “How many of you have seen your healthcare costs go down?” Silence!
Is it possible for me to double down my boycott of WF? I already don’t patronize their stores because of their anti-union (perhaps part of their Brooklyn problem?) and their ridiculous prices. We have a coop out here that covers most of what I might look for at WF except the meat.

Whatever Happened to Progressive Talk Radio? Did Air America Kiss it Good Bye?

Maron tendered his resignation on July 7? Funny, I thought they pulled the plug on the show.
Heh, got an e-mail via the contact form from somebody identifying themselves as a reporter for the Goebbels network (well, she said ABC News), saying she was “working on a story about whole foods. i saw your blog posting about how you would no longer shop there because of mackey’s oped.” Seems to check out, as her IP address resolves as Disney, and I could see that she got here via a google blog search.
It appears she didn’t spend much time reading, since I started out by saying “[w]e don’t have a Whole Foods around here,” but that I would boycott them if we did.
I should have mentioned that Marc also said, ” For you AAR, Sedition, MMS and BRL fans this is a pretty thorough piece except I didn’t ‘resign’ .”
Ah, I guess I need to go look at that facebook thingie of mine more often.
Since this woman is white, is it OK to say the cop acted stupidly?
Apparently any sort of conduct can be described as disorderly if:
1) The cop is having a bad day,
2) The cop doesn’t like what you say or how you say it, or
3) The cop just fucking feels like frying your ass.
The 99.9% of cops who do their jobs professionally should get to take turns Tasering in the nuts the 0.1% of assholes like this guy.
And was it really necessary to zap Mommy in front of the kids? If the cop was in danger, that’s one thing, but clearly he was NOT.
Let’s get this jerk off the force and into public office where he belongs.
He said she was using her cell phone, and she told him she wasn’t, and could prove it. That pissed him off, so he made up a bogus 50 in a 45 speeding charge, which she knew was bullshit, so she asked to see the proof, which there wasn’t any of, since he didn’t get her on radar, and just “estimated” after following her for “a few seconds,” and that pissed him off even more, so he zapped her and threw her face down in the middle of the street (in January in Syracuse, I might add) in front of her kids, and arrested her.
All charges dropped. He shouldn’t be allowed to be a cop, and the goddamn cops need to stop using tasers to get even with people for not doing exactly as told. They’re supposed to be used as an alternative to shooting somebody who is violent, not to prove how manly the cop is.
If she’d been a very important Harvard professor, she’d get to have a beer with Obama.
