Our hero, Senate Majority “Leader” Harry Reid, made a bold statement on health care reform in a conference call with some Nevada constituents yesterday, declaring “[w]e are going to have a public option before this bill goes to the president’s desk.” Way to go, Harry. I had my doubts about you, but, by golly, I think you’re finally starting to get it. But wait a minute. While speaking with reporters later in the day, Harry said “[r]emember, a public option is a relative term. There’s a public option, there’s a public option, and there’s a public option, and we’re going to look at each of them.” :smack: Uh. Well, alrighty then.
So, I guess David Letterman was forced to admit to having sex with women who work on his show after some clown tried to extort $2 million from him. It’s a sad commentary on the state of the nation when highly esteemed late night talk show hosts start acting like common Republican political trash. Well, except for all the blubbering, job abandonment, and “soul mate” nonsense. I’m not sure how we’ll ever recover from this national nightmare, but all we can really do is try and carry on. Stiff upper lip (among other things) and all that.
Everybody’s new hero, Florida Rep Alan Grayson, appeared on the Ed Schultz show yesterday. The split screen featuring their two giant heads was very impressive (it was a bit like watching Kodos and Kang). It amazes me that it’s taken this long for a friggin’ Democrat to realize it’s a good thing to stand up to bullies. I mean, didn’t they ever see “A Christmas Story” where Ralphie goes all medieval on Farkus’ ass? It amazes me (though it shouldn’t) how Republicans play the outraged victim role. After all the lies about death panels and “sex clinics” and killing grandma, suddenly they’re feelers are hurt when somebody calls them out on the obstructionist bullshit. What a bunch of whiny losers.
Oh well, another week on the verge of being over with – about a day too late, if you ask me.
Like every other country in Europe, Switzerland guarantees health care for all its citizens. But the system here does not remotely resemble the model of bureaucratic, socialized medicine often cited by opponents of universal coverage in the United States.
Swiss private insurers are required to offer coverage to all citizens, regardless of age or medical history. And those people, in turn, are obligated to buy health insurance.
That is why many academics who have studied the Swiss health care system have pointed to this Alpine nation of about 7.5 million as a model that delivers much of what Washington is aiming to accomplish รขโฌโ without the contentious option of a government-run health insurance plan.

The big news in the journal Science tomorrow is the discovery of the oldest human skeleton — a small-brained, 110-pound female of the species Ardipithecus ramidus, nicknamed “Ardi.” She lived in what is now Ethiopia 4.4 million years ago, which makes her over a million years older than the famous “Lucy” fossil, found in the same region thirty-five years ago.
Buried among the slew of papers about the new find is one about the creature’s sex life. It makes fascinating reading, especially if you like learning why human females don’t know when they are ovulating, and men lack the clacker-sized testicles and bristly penises sported by chimpanzees.

“men lack the clacker-sized testicles and bristly penises sported by chimpanzees”
:omg: :omg: :omg:
I’m surprised PJ hasn’t commented on this yet ๐ฎ
He used to run movies about guys with chimpanzee genitalia.
:rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2:
On a more somber note: CNY Health Care Workers Up In Arms Over Mandatory Flu Shots
It is getting scary in the trenches. :slap:
Grannie you and PJ know we’re wtih you no matter what.
:fist:
#5 — Thanks, Andy!!!
We definitely appreciate the support.
I’ve been involved with the NY Vaccine Strategy group that organized the Albany rally on Tuesday & that action has had some interesting impact. That was just the beginning.
NYS Health Commissioner Daines has a serious case of CRS as well as greed and arrogance. OK, well the greed and arrogance probably are more malignant than the CRS. But I am not a doctor so I am not credentialed to diagnose these things medically, but my nursing diagnosis (which I AM credentialed to diagnose) would be “impaired social interaction” and I would add “related to potential conflict of interest” to cover my a** (that’s why I gotta say “potential”). I hate to bash any religions, and if people want to belong to religious communties/churches, whatever, that is their business and so be it.
BUT some religions have their quirks which treat certain groups worse than others — Mormons don’t treat their women too well…. or is Big Love fiction? :omg: Anyway, this creepy Daines guy is an evangelic mormon. His wife is a manager at Goldman Sachs. He very snottily said of us (mostly women) New York State health care workers “Nobody likes to be told what to do. They’ll roll up their sleeves and get the vaccination” before the deadline. My blood pressure is still zinging off the wall.
I really want to be the one to ram those 2 H1N1 vaccine intramuscular injections into that asshole’s arm, or more preferably, his gluteus maximus (because that is a much bigger muscle and much closer to where his brain is).
Who knows what will happen. My colleagues are really pissed & don’t want the forced bullshit. New York State may just become the Third World when it comes down to acute care hospitals being able to function. The Emergency Room of the Level 1 Trauma Center where I work is on diversion almost every day … it’s a public hospital so the private hospitals dump complicated & uninsured patients on us every day for “higher level of care” because they can’t deal with the medical problems and even bigger social problems that these folks have’
๐ก ๐ก ๐ก
This is such a big, horrible Twilight Zone :tinfoil: circus!
:omg:
Granny, I commend you for being on the front lines. Hang in there, it’s friday.
Mandatory vaccination for a job, especially a state one, is just wrong. I have to think in the end anyone who suffers any loss from something like this will eventually be able to recover with damages. But what’s the point? Hit them with your best shot!
Interesting 1 hour interview if you care.
